Don't think this is necessary. Linking this would be overlinking as everyone who reads this will know what England is, and the Test team would not be an appropriate link here.

Worth mentioning?

• In 1998, Haslingden chose him as the best player of the club's history, as part of the 'Beyond the Boundary' exhibition on the Lancashire League.
• Politician, former Jamaica captain and member of the West Indies Cricket Board of Control Noel Nethersole was instrumental in getting Headley appointed as captain of the West Indies team.

I think the first one is definitely worth a mention, and I stuck it in. Not as sure about the second one. It seems that each club just chose one player; it is not clear who chose or how much thought went into it. As it does not say which other players played for Haslingden, I'm not sure it's that great an accolade if the next best player was Joe Bloggs of Blankshire! Also, it does not seem quite as prestigious as the other "awards" he received. However, feel free to argue! --Sarastro1 (talk) 19:49, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

I'm not going to argue, I think you're right. They perhaps just chose the most famous player to have played for them and, as you rightly said, it's not as prestigious as other accolades he received. I thought about these facts while (partially) reading this article because I remembered them. In the same vein, to mark the 75th anniversary of the first Test cricket match played by the West Indies, Headley was voted as one of the five best Jamaican players of all time and then selected by a panel that included Richie Benaud and CMJ as one of the five best players in the West Indies' Test history.

Some other facts, but it could be over-detailing to mention that: until Phillip Hughes scored centuries in both innings of a Test cricket match against South Africa some 79 years later, GH was the youngest player to do so! What about the "White Headley" nickname of Bradman? (even more over-detailing, maybe). Something that could highlight why the emergence of a world-class Black batsman in the West Indies is so crucial is the fact that West Indies cricket inherited from a situation where good batsmen where generally white and good bowlers generally black because, in the plantations, at the end of the 19th century, white owners batted while black employees bowled at them. I agree Hughes info may be over-detailing. I'm not sure about the "White Headley" as I've never seen anything to indicate that this was contemporary (unless I'm overlooking something obvious) rather than a later writer trying to be clever. I'm more interested in who called him the "Black Bradman" and when. I think the question of why WI batsmen were white is probably beyond the scope of this article, which is already quite dense. Your reasons are spot on, but I might add other ones such as the "supression" of black batsmen in favour of white ones, as there are several early black batsmen who never gained recognition but were pretty good.
