Vocal range

edit

I removed the statistic about Geoff's vocal range. It was originally written as 4 octaves by User:RandyRhoadsRonnieDio, but was later "changed" to 3.25 by 68.58.191.155. That's probably wrong, since — after it was reverted — they started changing it to more ridiculous values like 5.25, 2.5, and 100. Such a specific fact should probably have a citation anyway, so if someone has one, please restore it. ×Meegs 21:59, 18 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Range Geoff tate

This is a very representative Song when it comes about Range display

http://www.youtube.com/player.swf?video_id=CoINxEWhYKI&l=279

I´d estimate 3.5 Octaves

Highest Note: Before The STorm -1st refrain

Lowest Note : Eyes of The STranger (I see your face looking back at me)

user:komodo123, http://youtube.com/watch?v=jFI63qTzlBY, and http://youtube.com/watch?v=VqWeBteIV9s&watch_response

both show how geoff tate's range is at least 4 octaves, especially the second

that's citation there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Komodo123 (talkcontribs) 18:45, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, maybe he can go lower. But from what I remember he sings an E2 in Silent Lucidity (I'm using scientific notation): It's the HUSH part in "Hush, now don't you cry". So E2 (from what I remember, he didn't go that low in Before The Storm, I'll check if I can find my CD back). The highest recorded note I've ever heard him sing is an A5 in Blinded. It's the final part where he sings BLIN-DED!!! Which is BLIN=A5 DED=G5. E2-A5 = 3 octaves and five semitones. --Manolito Mystiq 15:20, 2 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

According to the video above, A1 - A5 = exactly 4 octaves A-lbi (talk) 16:35, 19 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hear N Aid?

edit

Perhaps a link and reference to Hear N Aid since he was one of the featured vocalists? Its a 30 year mark not a 40 year mark the band started in 1981. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.183.72.130 (talk) 04:16, 26 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

The "40 years" refers to KISS (est. 1973), not Queensrÿche. --Eddyspeeder (talk) 07:24, 26 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Saxophonist?

edit

I have seen Geoff playing the saxophone on some live shows... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xftyNCTT82Y&feature=related for instance. Might be worth mentioning. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.194.10.10 (talk) 13:02, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Agreed! It originally was listed among the instruments he plays in the infobox. Perhaps more important to note though is keyboards. He played keyboards in his pre-Queensryche band, Myth and is also credited with playing them on several Queensryche albums. Shouldn't we at least list such instruments in the infobox? More sources needed

edit

For instance, a source stating his birth name as Jeffrey Wayne should probably be included.

Also, "Tate states that his influences are Rob Halford of Judas Priest and Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden"--where? Given his oft-expressed distaste for heavy metal, some may find this less than plausible. Anyone have a source for that? Why does he never change his vest?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Lady space (talkcontribs) 21:28, 17 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

I found a court source supporting his full name. The TriRyche Corporation's Shareholder's Agreement from 1994 identifies him as "Geoffery" and is signed by him, so I have been able to change "Jeffrey" to "Geoffery" with reasonable certainty. I agree that more references are still needed. What I found searching for Tate, Halford and Dickinson is that they have been discussing a band effort tentatively named "The Three Tremors" or "Trinity", but they haven't followed through. Maybe someone can shed some light on this. --Eddyspeeder (talk) 13:38, 16 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

-According to Anybodylistening.net, Geoff Tate was born Jeffrey Wayne Tate and changed his name legally to Geoffrey Wayne Tate while writing music with MYTH. Since all the documents listing his name as "Geoffrey Tate" occur long after this legal name change, it only points to his current legal name being "Geoffrey Wayne Tate." It does not refute the long-held belief that Geoff Tate was born Jeffrey Wayne Tate. Source: http://anybodylistening.net/tate.html - 129.237.212.17 (talk) 23:56, 18 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for clearing that up! I've clarified this distinction on the page now. --Eddyspeeder (talk) 05:52, 19 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Assessment

edit

This article rests solidly between "C" and "B" territory as it stands today. The discography needs to be filled out more, there are no reviews for the songs or discussion of their impact. The narrative about his career, resources, and organization of the article are strong. Thank you for the hard work. EBY (talk) 03:53, 6 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Two solo albums

edit

Yesterday, 76.235.15.167 incorrectly added three albums to the discography section. It concerns Operation: Mindcrime II (2006), American Soldier (2009) and Dedicated to Chaos (2011). As you can see on the respective pages, these are the three most recent studio albums released by Queensrÿche, not by Geoff Tate as a solo artist.

Friginator correctly identified this as "(very subtle) vandalism". The origin of this vandalism is found in a court case, where Tate claims he has done all the work, with minimal to no involvement of the other Queensrÿche band members. Combined with the general sound of these albums bearing more resemblance to Tate's solo albums rather than Queensrÿche's older work, some fans would have these albums regarded as solo albums by Tate. This, however, is not true. Firstly, the other members of Queensrÿche assert that they were actively involved with the albums, and secondly, it is an undisputed fact that these albums were explicitly released under the brand of Queensrÿche, not as a solo effort by Tate. Thus, it is vandalism that may not be condoned. --Eddyspeeder (talk) 07:57, 20 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
