Hen House

Does anyone know the reason this is called "hen house radar"? Should this be added to the article?Vinzklorthos (talk) 15:31, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay. I will clarify. There is, for example, a paragraph that says

"The Dnestr radars were accepted for service by the Soviet Army[clarification needed] in April 1967 and became part of the space surveillance network SKKP. ^[8][11]:434"

The footnotes [8] and [11] are acceptable. The problem is the ":434". Yes, the page is needed, but it must be included within the footnote, not next to it. The only thing that should be visible in the article text is the footnote, the small number that takes the reader to the place with more information. Everything else should be inside the ref tags, and not be visible withn the text. Cambalachero (talk) 16:05, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

So you are rejecting the use of template:r, the standard way of giving page numbers with list defined references? My alternative would be to have a reference per page cited, which would be silly. TsSo-P

I fixed a grammar issue, but there are still some other issues:
"Work on the system was led by design bureau KB-1 which proposed using VHF radar RTN (Russian: РТН) and the Dunay-2 UHF radar." Can we have a wikilink for both proposed radar systems. If not, can you give a one or two sentence explanation on what VHF/UHF radar is?

I've linked to UHF and VHF. The benefits of using one frequency over another I am not sure about - I think VHF gives greater range but less resolution. The new generation of Russian early warning radar are using a mixture of the two. Secretlondon (talk) 21:37, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

Changed a few things for heightened grammatical accuracy. Still some things remain:
"In 1970 the radars at Olenegorsk and Skrunda, and an associated command centre were accepted for service. According to Podvig (2002) it seems they were positioned to identify missile launches from NATO submarines in the Norwegian and North Seas." Need comma after 1970. Also where was the associated command center. A comma is also needed after the 2002 enclosed in parentheses.

"An improved array was designed which covered 60 degrees rather than 30. The first Dnepr radar was built at Balkhash as a new radar, cell 5. It entered service on 12 May 1974.[2] The second was a new early warning station at Sevastopol. New Dneprs were also built at Mishelevka and another at Skrunda, and then one at Mukachevo."
