The focus of this article is on the firm's railcar business. However, the Ambi Budd article focuses on the firm's role in the automobile industry. Should they be linked or combined? CZmarlin 02:59, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Linked: yes. Combined/merged: Perhaps, but the current Budd Company article is already a bit lengthy. Could we expand the Ambi Budd article some more to support it as an independent article? Also, for anyone interested, I am not aware of any article regarding Budd's forays into aerospace engineering. Shot Welding Incorrectly Credited?

This article credits the invention of Shot Welding to Edward Budd, but other wikipedia articles (on the Pioneer Zephyr and Shot Welding) contradict this, indicating it was actually invented by Earl Ragsdale. Perhaps this should be amended?

Say, Budd

If they're such a pioneer in automobiles, howcum the article is entirely about railway? No mention of the early Dodge bodies? Nothing? Trekphiler 05:10, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Because those who have worked on the article so far had references for rail transport and not necessarily automobiles. If you've got the reliable sources, properly cited additions would be wonderful. Slambo (Speak) 15:01, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Speaking of Automotives

I worked for The Budd Company from 1972 to 1989 when the Frankfort, Ohio plant was sold to AlliedSignal. We made steel wheels for Semi-trailer trucks, Especially Kenworth, Which operated their own plant less than 20 miles away in Chillicothe, Ohio. The wheels are still seen today on truck trailers, and are distinctive for having only 2 holes in the wheel disk for hand holds. <Like this> We also were the first in that industry to use a powder-coat paint process for wheels. Update to article

The lastest news with this company is a purchase from Thyssenkrupp AG by Martinrea Ltd. Also the automotive end of the business retained the Budd Company moniker until this purchase in December 2006. The Canadian CAW local 1451 from the Kitchener plant has a brief article on the purchase on their website: https://www.cawlocal.ca/1451/default.asp

This really should be combined with the above mentioned article. Perhaps there should be a general article on Budd until the company split into rail and auto forays and then link to separate pages for details on those sectors. There is also some stories about one of the Budd factories making appliances for a time.

PATCO

The Budd PATCO trains circa 1968 are still in use. I ride on one almost daily. the only one with the original "Budd" emblem that I have noticed is the 101 car that does leak a bit in heavy rains. Lancia Lambda
