Diamond Sculls edit

A citation is needed for the reference to the exclusion from the Diamond Sculls. I have checked in two different histories of the regatta (Richard Burnell and Chris Dodd) and can't find a reference - but that's not to say it didn't happen. I have however removed the reference in articles about John B. Kelly, Sr. and Henley Royal Regatta until a citation can be found (I've been cleaning up/correcting/adding citations to the references to the amateurism issue in those articles.

In the meantime, I will make a small amendment to this article, removing the reference to 'gentry' and adding detail on the amateurism rules which were in place at Henley in 1928.

I'll also add some detail about the 1931 Diamonds win that I have found.

Pearce was barred from Henley. However, the correct date was 1928, not 1929. It happened on the way to the Amesterdam Olympics. I did some research on this a couple of years ago. I found these article as comfirmation: http://www.adb.online.anu.edu.au/biogs/A110183b.htm , http://corporate.olympics.com.au/athlete/5046/Henry+Bobby+Pearce Swlenz (talk) 14:44, 21 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Pearce's wife edit

Under "World champion professional", there are contradicting information on Pearce's wife. First it was stated that "In 1938, he defeated Evans Paddon of Australia in a three-mile race during the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto where his world sculling title was at stake. The race took place just a few days after Pearce's wife died following an illness." Then it was stated that "Pearce's wife lived longer than him, dying in 2007."

So did his wife die before or after him? Some wiki contributors may want to correct the article..or make it clearer. 110.92.100.83 (talk) 07:03, 27 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Both. His first wife Reita Hendon died in 1938; his second wife Velma Whelpton outlived him. Sticks66 08:36, 3 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Family edit

I removed what appeared to be uncited OR trivia from a section in which it wasn't even relevant. I also couldn't find a source that Michel was his grandson, and thus at least part of it might constitute vandalism. If you can find references for all of this, don't restore it to that specific section. Quinto Simmaco (talk) 02:28, 11 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
