Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page edit

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Below is a list of links that were found on the main page:

Triggered by \bbeacon\.org\b on the local blacklist

If you would like me to provide more information on the talk page, contact User:Cyberpower678 and ask him to program me with more info.

From your friendly hard working bot.—cyberbot II NotifyOnline 17:02, 8 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Will look at this one. —Ed!(talk) 22:48, 12 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

GA review (see here for criteria) (see here for this contributor's history of GA reviews)
  1. It is reasonably well written:
Pass No problems in dup links, dab links, external links.
    • Note: Copyvio detector returns yellow. But from what I can tell, this is because of the extensive use of quotes within the prose, and some limited similar phraseology.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable:
Generally for refs of quotes, it's best to place them at the end of the quote itself instead of before.
  Done----Երևանցի talk 08:54, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
  1. It is broad in its coverage:
    Not Yet
    • "Bagdikian graduated from Clark University, in Worcester, Massachusetts, as a pre-medical student.[7] He was editor of The Clark News, the college newspaper.[11]" -- there are some good details on his family life, anything on what prompted these interests?
Will try to find out here. I'll probably expand the article somewhat from this source.----Երևանցի talk 08:54, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Ok. So just let me know when you've finished this one, I believe it's my last outstanding comment. —Ed!(talk) 23:04, 18 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
    Done. ----Երևանցի talk 16:42, 19 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • "He served as a navigator (first lieutenant) in the United States Army Air Forces from May 1942 to January 1946, serving during World War II.[1][6]" -- drafted? Or volunteered?
    Drafted. ----Երևանցի talk 08:54, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • "Bagdikian died ... " -- this can probably go at the bottom of the article, even if it's not organized strictly in chronological order, would make more sense near the bottom.
Please take a look at my changes in the "Personal life" section. Does this format make more sense? ----Երևանցի talk 08:54, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
    I think that works. —Ed!(talk) 00:05, 15 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • "Bagdikian began working for the Providence Journal in 1947 as a reporter and Washington bureau chief. He also served as a local reporter." -- This might need reordering. I assume he wasn't hired fresh out of the military as a bureau chief?
    • "Bagdikian began a freelance career after leaving the Providence Journal in 1961." -- Kind of disjoined; why did he step down from bureau chief to work as a freelancer? Likely so he could pursue other interests, which might be clear in the source material.
    • " ...which was praised as a "readable report that one might expect from a first-rank..." -- beware weasel words. Who praised it?
    Rephrased. ----Երևանցի talk 08:54, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • "published the series first as a report (The Shame of the Prisons, Pocket Books, 1972) and later as a book (Caged: Eight Prisoners and Their Keepers, Harper & Row, 1976)" -- Might suggest limiting mention here just to the books and linking to them in footnotes or further reading, for flow.
    Done----Երևանցի talk 18:53, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • "He became the second ombudsman of the Post in 1972, ..." -- You can probably cut the second mention out as this was established in the beginning of the section.
    Done----Երևանցի talk 18:53, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • Also on the subject, might be useful to cite Jeff Himmelman's book, Yours in Truth as Bagdikian is noted as believing his relationship with his second wife is part of the reason he was "forced out" at the Washington Post.
    • "In 1987 Bagdikian testified on the effects of profit on news reporting..." What did he say in this testimony? Merits a mention here of some detail.
    Done. ----Երևանցի talk 18:33, 18 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • Media Criticism section: Some present tense references to him, which should become past tense.
    Such as? Couldn't find any.----Երևանցի talk 18:53, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
"When asked about what newspaper he recommends, Bagdikian said that he is a .." -- this graph. —Ed!(talk) 00:05, 15 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
    Done. ----Երևանցի talk 18:33, 18 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • The "In popular culture" section can be removed or merged into the legacy section, but it must be cited.
Merged and cited. ----Երևանցի talk 08:54, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
  2. It follows the neutral point of view policy:
    • Pass No problems there.
  3. It is stable:
    Pass No problems there.
  4. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate:
One image tagged as fair use. The article could have some associated images added (Ben Bradlee's headshot or photos of the other papers added) but I don't see this as essential.
  5. Other:
    On Hold Pending a few fixes. —Ed!(talk) 23:46, 12 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Much appreciated for all of your work. All of my significant concerns have been addressed. Based on this, Passsing the GAN now. —Ed!(talk) 20:04, 19 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
