Suggestions (as edited) from a solicited review

• I do believe he was known for being a great stylist, something which the article doesn't mention at the moment. Done, needs another read tomorrow
• Also, it's unusual to see family info and early years in the lead, since normally the details about parents and immigration doesn't go in the lead and only the main cricket highlights and adult stuff goes in the lead. Done removed, although left the child prodigy line.
• Also I believe I spotted a mistake, since I believe Jackson played 4 Tests against the WI. Done
• I think it's normal that for numbers less than tell, we spell out the word, so I would always use "nine matches" or "three wickets" unless it is "3/24" etc. Done
• We normally use ndashes for the years and the series results. I changed some of them. Done
• In some parts of the article I think it gets a bit weaselly when it simply says the tour was successful or bad without really explaining why. Done, I think.
• I guess more detail in his Test century would be good if possible. Done
• It is unusual is that you didn't explain the results on the WI series. Done
• I would also have the book in the separate ref section and quote the page individually rather than citing the general book over and over, eg, Arthur Morris. Done
• IN some parts the exact illness isn't specified. It would be good to specify I guess, unless all these long breaks were caused by the common cold or such generalities.

• Nearly all related to the tuberculosis and psoriasis. Needs to be worked into the article better. Done, I think

• I would increase the lead a bit. Done - reworded almost entirely.

Some suggestions:

• the text is a bit too reliant on one source (ie Frith), here are some others that will help: [1] [2] [3] [4]. Done, I think the Frith work has been toned down a lot. As the definitive biography, I find that many of the other sources I have found refer back to Frith anyway.
• A couple of facts are wrong: Jackson scored 162 and 90 v SA in 28-29 just before his Test debut, not a ton in each innings;  Done aaargh, I need to read more carefully!
• Bradman got 334 at Headingley, not 344; Done, a typo
• the test trial in 28-29 was not NSW v MCC, it was Aus XI v Rest of Aus XI [5]. Done This was in the article but I have made it clearer now
• You can use this ref for stats: [6].

• I think its important to point out that Jackson batted both as an opener and down the order. Done
• A good anecdote is that Ryder asked Kippax if he should let Jackson open on his debut.  Not done, I can't seem to find a source to allow inclusion. It would be a good anecodote if one could be found
• His innings in 1930 at the Oval with Bradman is significant in that this was the genesis for bodyline; it also won the match and was Jackson's most significant Test knock apart from his debut. Good summary of his 1930 tour here: [7] Match report for Oval Test here: [8]. Done
• Finally, Jackson's 164 is the second highest on debut for Aus, only one run short of Bannerman in 1877, which is remarkable that he has held this record so long. See: [9] Done, now included

I have passed this article upon reviewing it against the good article criteria. Although there are further minor fixes needed before progressing to FAC, if such a thing occurs, at the moment I have no doubt it meets all the criteria for a good article. Cause of death?

What is his cause of death? Saying he had a massive haemorrhage is pretty vague. Did he cut his hand? Did he fall on an axe? Did he get struck by lightning? I thought it was clear in context, he bled massively into his lungs as a result of his tuberculosis (discussed extensively in the paras above) and died. Now clarified. -- Mattinbgn\^talk 06:05, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Some missed vandalism

Youngest First-Grade-er

At the age of 15 years and one month, he made his first grade début for Balmain; cricket historian David Frith believes that Jackson is the youngest cricketer to play at this level.

According to page 28 of this PDF (http://www.cricketnsw.com.au/nswgc/AA/2008/2008_GradeRecords.pdf) he was fourth youngest to play Sydney grade cricket. None of the three younger went on to play state cricket. --Jpeeling (talk) 21:28, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Scottish cricketer

Jackson did not play for Scotland, but he was a Scotsman. His first name was Archie which is almost stereotypically Scottish.--MacRusgail (talk) 12:57, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Just because he was born in Scotland and had a Scottish name and parents but he played for Australia not Scotland. Bidgee (talk) 13:24, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Eh?! He played for Australia, but that doesn't stop him being Scottish. He's a Scottish cricketer who played for Australia - where's the problem? I think you should differentiate between Scottish cricketers and cricketers for Scotland. Two different things.--MacRusgail (talk) 20:46, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

No, he is an Australian cricketer who was born in Scotland. He is Scottish, no doubt and he is a cricketer as well, but that does not make him a Scottish cricketer any more than it makes Ted Dexter a Italian cricketer or Corné Krige and George Gregan Zambian rugby players! His Scottishness and his career as a cricket player are entirely unconnected. Indeed there is no evidence that I can find that he ever played a single game of cricket in Scotland. -- Mattinbgn\^talk 19:19, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
