Requested move 6 January 2023 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved. Clear consensus to move all of these. (note: looks like the rmcloser script won't help me for this, I'll have to go through them all manually. Will take some time.) (closed by non-admin page mover) echidnaLives - talk - edits 01:50, 14 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

– Three main reasons to make all the "F"s in "Final" lowercase for these:

1. per WP:NCCAPS and MOS:SPORTCAPS, in order for us to capitalize, it should be usually capitalized in our sources. Otherwise, the default is to not capitalize and use sentence case. In this case, it is almost universally lowercase in the sources. See this quick source review I just conducted:
Source review of capitalization "f" vs "F" in "European Cup Final"
2. To be WP:CONSISTENT with the recent rm I closed over at Talk:1993 UEFA Champions League final, which is just the continuation of the European Cup from 1993 - present.
3. Per NGRAMS, the lowercase "final" is predominant since around 2006. prior to that, it was equivocal. — Shibbolethink ( ) 21:10, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Support per outcomes at the two RMs Stevie fae Scotland listed on the 1993 Champions League final talk page and the reason I gave re the 2022 FIFA World Cup final is titled. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 21:50, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Support per WP:NCCAPS. This is not a proper noun. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 21:55, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support but this didn't really need an RM IMHO. The precedent has been set by other RMs and with the ngram the way it is, I'd have just moved these as Uncontroversial.  — Amakuru (talk) 22:23, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I did consider it! But I thought I might get pushback given how many articles it would be! I wanted to set a precedent so nobody reverts. But I will probably go ahead and do that next time   — Shibbolethink ( ) 00:09, 7 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Entirely inappropriate, each competition needs to be considered separately, given FA Cup Final RM is going in a different direction (as that is a proper noun)... GiantSnowman 12:26, 7 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per the recent similar RMs and WP:NCCAPS. — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 02:16, 7 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. GiantSnowman 12:23, 7 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I also included it there, I think it keeps getting deleted because they don't want to see it. xD — Shibbolethink ( ) 13:40, 7 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support to keep in-line with Champions League. GiantSnowman 12:25, 7 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support Same reasons I gave at Champions League finals RM linked above. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 13:54, 7 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per all. And we can ask User:Tol to use TolBot to execute the bulk move if closer needs help. Dicklyon (talk) 03:47, 12 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
