Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. Tentative list

What should the level of detail in the "Tentative list" section. While FL List of World Heritage Sites in Madagascar has a table, FL List of World Heritage Sites in Spain only has names and the year they were included on the tentative list. --Redtigerxyz ^Talk 16:26, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

If the tentative list is big such that of India, it is preferable to remove the details. First of all of the sites mentioned, 75% are either unnotable or vague, about whom much information is not being retrieved. I believe the same is also for Spain. But in Madagascar as they are "important" and much information can be given it is kept. In a nutshell, I prefer not to keep the details if the monument list is big and much of them are vague. Looking for feedback on my funding proposal to work with UNESCO

Hi all

I’m looking for feedback and endorsement for my Wikimedia Foundation PEG grant to be Wikimedian in Residence at UNESCO. I’d very much appreciate if you would have a look, I want to include as many different projects and languages as possible and connect editors in each country with local UNESCO partners. The project will include image release of World Heritage Sites. Here are the goals most relevant to Wikipedia:

1. Train UNESCO and its partner organisations to contribute to Wikimedia projects: Provide UNESCO and its partners with the skills, tools, resources and connections to contribute to Wikimedia projects in a meaningful, measurable and sustainable way. To integrate into the Wikimedia community both online and by matching them with local Wikimedia organisations and volunteers for in person support and collaboration. The project will create and improve content receiving 100,000,000 views per year on Wikimedia projects, educate 1000 people in over 200 organisations to learn more about Wikimedia projects. This will include 500 newly registered users trained to contribute to Wikimedia projects and 500 articles formally reviewed by experts.

2. Make content from the archives of UNESCO and its partners available on Wikimedia projects: This project will facilitate the upload of 30,000 images, audio files, videos, data and other content to Wikimedia projects from UNESCO archives (24,000 images), UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) and other sources including 10 organisations changing their content license to be Wikimedia compatible, a completed pilot project is outlined in the Goal section.

I ran a pilot project that resulted in the images found in the Wikimedia Commons category Images from the archive of UNESCO, here are a few examples:

• 
  The Soda volcano, Oromia, Ethiopia.
• 
  Rubble of the cathedral after the earthquake that hit the Capital Port au Prince just before 5 pm on 12 January 2010.
• 
  Young monk, wearing a special costume, July-August 1991, Sikkim, India.
• 
  Sabha, 6, getting ready to walk to school from her house on the borders eastern Gaza strip, where she and her family are still living in tents.
• 
  Not far from Mohenjo-Daro (or Mohenjodaro) - These Mohana fishermen/hunters use lures from real birds to catch more birds. They will either eat them or sell them. Mohenjodaro, Pakistan.
• 
  Priest of rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela, a high place of Ethiopian Christianity, still today a place of pilmigrage and devotion.

World Heritage Sites photographs available on Wikimedia Commons from UNESCO

Hi all

I'm very happy to say the first 750 images of World Heritage sites from UNESCO have been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. I've set up a group of pages on Meta to help people see what content from UNESCO is available and which files are not used for each language and each Wikimedia project. The files include descriptions in several languages, typically the six official UN languages.

Integrating Wikidata information into World Heritage infoboxes

Hi all

I have done some work to import information about all current World Heritage sites (apart from the new ones announced over the last weeks) into Wikidata including their coordinates, World Heritage ID, World Heritage Criteria, inscription URL and inscription date. I would like to suggest that the World Heritage site Infobox pull information directly from Wikidata like Infobox Telescope (e.g South Pole Telescope) as well as including manually inputted information. I'm very happy to help set it up, Mike Peel who did the Telescope infoboxes has offered to guide me through it. I think it would be very helpful in expanding the information available and keeping the information up to date especially when other languages begin using the same system. Does anyone have any thoughts?

P.s I've also done some work to use the data from Wikidata to map missing World Heritage Wikipedia articles across several languages, you can see what I've done here (just click on the link that says World Heritage sites).

Are contributing properties tagged?

There are several WHS that list a collection of structures or a broad area. Should the constituent structures be tagged with Category:World Heritage Sites and the talk page with Template:WikiProject World Heritage Sites and in the article be referred to as contributing structures of a WHS? The example I have in mind is St. Peter's Basilica, which itself is not a WHS, but is a contributing structure to Vatican City, which is a WHS. This is the way the NRHP works, but I do not know if the same is true for WHS. Ergo Sum 15:17, 9 August 2016 (UTC)

COH Challenge

Dear Wikipedians,

Between 1 July and 31 July, Wikimedia Sverige and UNESCO co-arranges the second writing challenge of the Connected Open Heritage project, the COH Challenge.

As part of the Connected Open Heritage project a large number of images under a free license have been uploaded, e.g. of world heritage sites and of important archaeological and built heritage sites in Syria, Mexico, Cyprus and Sweden (the images can be found here). The purpose of this challenge is to get as many of these images as possible to be used in Wikipedia articles (however, at most five images – with caption – per article).

You can find the participation page here, where you also register your points. Participate in any language you’d like! The winner receives as well the honor as great prizes.

Importance assessment of Megalithic Temples of Malta

Currently the article Megalithic Temples of Malta is assessed as being Mid-importance on this project's importance scale. Mid-importance is given to subjects which fill in more minor details, and I don't believe this article falls into that category. I am therefore proposing to reassess the article as Top-importance, since it is a must-have for a print encyclopaedia. The Megalithic Temples of Malta are some of the oldest free-standing structures in existence, and they are also very significant from an architectural point of view, so I believe it clearly falls into the Top-importance category. Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you?
