Hey, I saw your post on COIN a few items above mine and took a crack at some encyclopedic tone editing on the Anaman Yogiji article. I think there is also some verification issues, but I didn't get that deep. User:King4057 (COI Disclosure on User Page) 14:44, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Sealand national football team

I have restored the article because two people said I should try mainspace. If you still believe it should be deleted, start an AfD...you can't really claim that the 2007 is still valid as it was five years ago (not that it was valid even then, it should have been closed as no consensus) and, unlike you assertion claims, significant new information has come to light. It's a completely different article. Every single reference in the article is from after the 2007 AfD. pbp 13:49, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

Sofiabrampton (talk) 03:08, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Good morning, Uzma Gamal. Many thanks for the very helpful message that you sent to me yesterday. "Rudy Buttignol" is my first attempt at Wikipedia. I think that I started about a week ago. It takes me a long time to do anything and to navigate my way around. I have started this new message here because I was unable to find your message from yesterday, June 11th. I answered to David by mistake, so here is the same reply to you.

In your June 11th message, you made 2 main points:

1) To "write in chronological order rather than resume multiple section style". Thanks for removing the "Awards" section heading and I can see how the article looks better.

2)To use only reliable sources such as those in newspapers and books.

I think that I am confused about when to use an external link [[ ]] and when to use a reference [1].

The difficulty that I am having with using newspaper references that are not http is that I find the appropriate links and the entire article about Rudy Buttignol through Google, and then when I go to the newspaper can't get all of the information, especially the page #. I contact the newspaper for that info and then hear nothing. Are links to online newspaper articles not good sources to use on Wikipedia?

Also, regarding Rudy Buttignol's volunteer service to organizations such as the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television and the Canadian Cultural Review Board, I do not know how else to verify that he sits on these boards without linking to the section in the appropriate website. Is this correct for Wikipedia?

I really appreciate the rigour that Wikipedia supports regarding sources and for all of the help that you have given me. And I do want to present the best possible Wikipedia submission for Rudy Buttignol.

Thanks for writing back when you can.

Thanks for your help with "Rudy Buttignol". I hope to hear from him on Wikipedia.

Dear Uzma Gamal, Thanks for your help as I wrote the article on Rudy Buttignol. I put at least 60 hours into it (over a 2 week plus period). I usually have to read "editor" notes like the ones you provided, a number of times before they sink into my Wikipedia practice. I find webreflinks extremely difficult to understand--probably because I don't understand what it does!

You mentioned that I should put the "Notes" for "Rudy Buttignol" under the "References" and I agree but don't know how to do that. Is it a mere cut & paste?

Also, I am still trying to navigate myself around the Wikipedia talk pages and came across a suggestion that you made re the final sentence in the 1st paragraph (related to BBC Kids). I loved your suggestion and would like to accept it but don't know how.

I hope that one day I can become proficient on Wikipedia and help other first-writers.

Thanks again for your help.

Why are you campaining against me and the Kruse family members on Wikipedia? Knuand (talk) 13:11, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

My posts first are directed towards whether each Kruse topic meets Wikipedia's general significant coverage guideline, not the individuals or the editors posting to those topics. When you look at the Kruse topics in the collective,[4] my impression is that one or more editors are trying to put the Kruse genealogy in English Wikipedia, which NOT:GENEALOGICAL ENTRIES does not permit. My efforts are not against the editors, they are for and on behalf of Wikipedia policy.-- Uzma Gamal (talk) 13:24, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

Your posts are like this:

  • Comment - My impression is that someone is trying to put the Kruse genealogy in English Wikipedia via an article on Erling Ove Kruse (born 10 August 1922 in Oslo; a decorated Norwegian Colonel) and his ancestors and descendants:
    • Anine Kruse Skatrud (a redirect)
    • Benedikte Kruse (a redirect)
    • Bjørn Kruse
    • Jannike Kruse Jåtog (which now is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jannike Kruse Jåtog)

What does this have to do with Wikipedia's general significant coverage guideline? Knuand (talk) 13:31, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

Hum? It doesn't appear to directly address general significant coverage guideline. I'll fix that. Thanks for letting me know. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 13:37, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
Thank you, and have a nice week end! Knuand (talk) 14:10, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

I cannot see any actions taken at at either Erling O. Kruse or the Jannike Kruse Jåtog dicussions:

  • Comment - As I noted at the Erling O. Kruse DRV request to restore the Erling O. Kruse article, my impression is that someone is trying to put the Kruse genealogy in English Wikipedia:
The Erling O. Kruse article notes how the above are all related. NOT:GENEALOGICAL ENTRIES comes to mind. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 06:57, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Re Rudy Buttignol Changed URLs from ref to external link and added some book and newspaper articles as ref nowiki

Hi Uzma Gamal, I have changed all of my URLs from <ref> to [link]. I figure that this was the best thing to do as links are not sources. This information that I have linked is only available electronically.

As you suggested, I have also beefed up the references by adding 2 books and some newspaper (and other) articles

I tried to understand about Webreflinks but couldn't comprehend much. I understand about the fluidity of websites that may be here today and gone tomorrow. Does Webreflinks somehow capture the webpage that I am referring to?

There is a note at the top of the Rudy Buttignol page: "This article uses bare URLs for citations. Please consider adding full citations so that the article remains verifiable. Several templates and the Reflinks tool are available to assist in formatting. (Reflinks documentation) (June 2012)"

There is a funny symbol after three of the links and I don't know how to turn them into numbered links. Career paragraph # 3: 1) after The View from Here 2) after Dying at Grace (2003) 3) after Academy of Cinema and Television

Thanks for any help.

No. You messed up here, badly. You levelled a wholly inappropriate assumption of bad faith at a casual contributor (directly accusing him of wasting the project's time with process, misrepresenting authorship, plagiarism no less) and then insulted his contribution to boot. Conflict of interest guideline

I've been really busy writing an op-ed for the Signpost, contributing to a new COI essay, looking at duplicating the AfC process for request edits (though that may be beyond my technical abilities) and having some pretty lengthy conversations with users interested in the subject of COI, where I feel we're all learning from each other and finding good compromises.

At the end of the day though, the COI guideline is the front and center quarterback and the RfC was unproductive. I actually thought the guideline was fine, until I started hearing all the questions from PR people and realized just how confusing it is. I thought I would poke around and see if we can round up a posse to go through it line-by-line and just improve/clarify (not drastically change, but just improve). I'd be happy to help out as a sort of representative of the dark side. Maybe I am shooting for the moon here in thinking we can organize and mobilize? ;-) Posting a similar message with folks that are active on the COI guideline Talk page.
