Removal of redlinks edit

Hello again. Looking at all your contributions since you joined us a few days ago, you do seem to be focussed almost entirely on removing WP:REDLINKS from film articles. Could you explain your rationale for this, please? If there's genuinely no likelihood that the subject would ever be deemed WP:NOTABLE, then that would be fine. But I'm not keen to see a newcomer removing such links wholesale from article upon article without there being a really good rationale. See WP:REDDEAL. A redlink can actually be a good way to encourage other users to create articles on that topic, assuming it would meet our criteria for notability, of course. Thanks, Nick Moyes (talk) 20:19, 25 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Oh Wow. I am very sorry Nick. I thought I was supposed to be doing that. I thought I was helping. I will try to fix. Table at dorsia (talk) 13:44, 26 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
I am trying, is there an undo button or something like that? I read there is an extension twinkle. Trying to figure this out for you. Table at dorsia (talk) 13:52, 26 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
I just saw the twinkle tag in the history. I will keep trying. Table at dorsia (talk) 13:53, 26 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
It seems like it is working with the rollback feature. I am running into issues with this though "Grabbing data of earlier revisions: No previous revision found. Perhaps Table at dorsia is the only contributor, or they have made more than 50 edits in a row."
I will do all that I can then wait to hear back from you. Table at dorsia (talk) 14:03, 26 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
I was able to fix everything except for the 2005, where I get that error message.
Question:
  1. How do I fix that one?
  2. Are there more add on's that are helpful like that twinkle?
  3. Is there a general guide link, so I read to not make mistakes like that again?
  4. Is there a general guide link for how to communicate with people? Is it just post on my talk page, then I comment back on yours? Is there a direct message thing or?
Table at dorsia (talk) 14:14, 26 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
OK, and thank you for reacting positively to my worries - that's great. One way I revert multiple edits I've made is to go to that article's 'View History' tab and look at to see if anyone else has since edited it, and then click rollback - as I think you've discovered. If another editor has made changes since, I might go and see what they did and, if simple edits, copy their text into my sandbox for a moment, revert back to the version prior to me making all my edits, then add back in the chages made by the final editor. It always helps to briefly explain what you're doing in each edit summary, too.
Now, you say you're still concerned about what I assume is List of Chinese films of 2005. But I've checked it and it's been reverted perfectly. The way to check is to get the system to display a summary of every change made since two points in its history. So, I'd select the radio button beside the entry for the edit immediately below where I made my first edit. Then I'd ensure the radio button for the very top (most recent) edit was selected. Then I'd click' Compare selected revisions'. This displays the changes between the two versions. We call this a WP:DIFF. As you'll see your diff here shows there are 28 intermediate revisions and no differences in the versions. i.e you made 27 edits, but reverted them all in one go with your final one. So, unless I'm missing something, you've repaired any harm that may or may not have been done by removing all the red wikilinks. Sometimes, you know, an article can have far too many such redlinks, so it's a judgement call, and one that is hard to make at first. Little mistakes like that that actually quite easily fixed, but making them slowly adds up to someone learning the best ways to go about things and becoming a really competent editor. That takes time for every single one of us. They key is learning, and I think you've done that well.
Regarding add-ons, WP:TWINKLE is probably one of the most useful to have. But I did find experimenting with one's Preference settings (especially Gadgets) can be interesting, but I'd suggest doing that only after you've got used to things as they are. The one most useful thing I remember changing was the way that our markup looks when using the WP:Source Editor tool. Having template text in purple, links in blue, and ordinary text in black really helps to separate content out. But this isn't changeable in settings, it's a little blue angled pencil icon in the toolbar of source editor. If all you see is black when editing, click that and it'll switch the colours on or off for you. I always say that Wikipedia is both immensely elegant but immensely complicated. When I need to learn more about any topic, I ask myself what keyword might sum up the issue, then I type it, preceded by WP: in the search box. So, if I want to know about how people are blcoked, or adding references, or using italics in the right place, I'd type WP:BLOCKS or WP:REFERENCES or WP:ITALICS in the usual search box. These are highly likely to be functioning shortcut links that take you straight to guidance on that topic. See WP:BLOCKS or WP:REFERENCES or WP:ITALICS. If it's not quite what I want, i check out any alternative links given at the top of the page, plus the 'See Also' section at the bottom. I usually find what I want after a while!
I hope this answers all your questions. I also appreciate the beer - thank you! Nick Moyes (talk) 15:14, 26 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Your welcome for the beer!
Thank you for the long response. I can see it you did some work on it. There is a lot in there.
I am glad I was able to fix them. I really thought they were just broken links and I was cleaning up those pages. I still have a lot to learn.
I am confused by what you mean for the Wikipedia:Source editor. This is fun BTW. Do you mean the difference between the visual and the text editor? Template text in purple? What I see is source editing (all black) and the visual editor. I am a little color blind. Is the darker links, the ones in purple? I think that is what you mean. Why are some in purple and some in blue? Table at dorsia (talk) 16:42, 26 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Wow again. This seems very obvious now. Thank you again for your guidance. Table at dorsia (talk) 18:42, 26 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Women in Red edit

Hi there, Table at dorsia, and welcome to Women in Red. I see you have created your first biography of an actress and look forward to many more. You seem to be gaining experience in editing but as a new contributor, you might find it useful to try The Wikipedia Adventure. In connection with women's biographies, you should also look through our Ten Simple Rules. You can find lots of redlists of actresses on our Redlist index. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 07:48, 28 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Ipigott. Thank you for that user tool Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Adventure. There were a couple simple things I was missing. So thank you for that.

UPE edit

Hello Table at dorsia. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Table at dorsia. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Table at dorsia|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. 81.79.189.153 (talk) 04:35, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
