A question about authority control
Hello, T.seppelt (aka KasparBot). When I originally tried to add the authority control to Stuart Rojstaczer I had written {{authority control}} and there were no resulting data links. It was not until I wrote {{Authority control |LCCN=n98085884|VIAF=294260590|ISNI=0000 0000 3730 4076}} that the data showed up. Before saving that edit, a little message in red appeared advising me that adding the LCCN, VIAF, and ISNI numbers was somehow undesirable, but that the message would only appear in preview mode. So I let it stand. Your recent edit (Authority control moved to Wikidata) got rid of those LCCN, VIAF, and ISNI numbers, yet the authority control remains on the page, with all of its data links. Did my original {{authority control}} not work because the page info had not at that time been transferred to wikidata? And is there some reason that I should not resort to including the LCCN, VIAF, and ISNI numbers in the {{authority control}}? Thank you for your attention and for satisfying my curiosity. Akhooha (talk) 15:56, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Akhooha: Sorry for the delay. The idea is the following: The plain {{Authority control}} gets its data from the Wikidata entry which is connected with the page (accessible in the right sidebar "Wikidata item"), in this case Q16980380. If there is no data available nothing can be shown. Therefore it worked only when you added the identifiers locally (
{{Authority control |LCCN=n98085884|VIAF=294260590|ISNI=0000 0000 3730 4076}}
). The task of my bot is to move the identifiers to Wikidata. This happened here. After the data was added to Wikidata{{Authority control}}
was enough to display the identifiers here. - The best way is always to add
{{Authority control}}
to the article and edit the identifiers on Wikidata. Then they can be used by all Wikipedias and third-party projects. To do this you click on "Wikidata item" in the sidebar, scroll down until "add claim" appears and type e.g. "VIAF" in the left field. After selecting the property you can add the VIAF identifier to the item. If you don't feel comfortable with editing Wikidata you can still add information locally. My bot moves it automatically every night. - Please contact me in case you have questions. Warm regards, -- T.seppelt (talk) 11:14, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for your explanation. Next time I'll try via the Wikidata. Akhooha (talk) 16:41, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
Italian constitutional referendum graph
Hi T.seppelt, I notice your great job in creating the graph about the UK referendum and I have a request for you...could you create a similar graph also for the Italian constitutional referendum? Thank you very much! -- Nick.mon (talk) 09:39, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Nick.mon: thanks for letting me know about this. I replied at Talk:Italian constitutional referendum, 2016#Graph on opinion polling. -- T.seppelt (talk) 12:34, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
Persondata multiple deprecation
Why did KasparBot (talk · contribs) make the same edit three times? --Redrose64 (talk) 10:14, 2 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Redrose64: sorry. The page trancluded the template three times. This caused the problem. It shouldn't happen again. -- T.seppelt (talk) 10:18, 2 July 2016 (UTC)
Removing persondata comments
Thanks for removing orphaned persondata comments, as here, but the bot left consecutive newlines which is untidy. Can you adjust the regex (or whatever) accordingly? --Mirokado (talk) 20:08, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Mirokado: for the second half of the comment removal I applied a new regex which removes up to 2 line breaks after the comment. I don't really want to remove double line breaks in the articles I edited before because I can't make sure that it only affects persondata related lines. I guess there is an AWB task handling this. -- T.seppelt (talk) 04:56, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
Nobots
I thought the presence of {{nobots}}
on my talk should stop such edits [1]. Could you check this? Materialscientist (talk) 07:42, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Materialscientist: I'm very sorry. There were a couple of lines missing in the code. Probably because the task was originally improved without exclusion compliant, but you are right, I should not spam talk pages. I fixed it. Thank you for pointing this out. -- T.seppelt (talk) 11:15, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
Authority control in Wikiquote
Please could you take a look at en:wikiquote:Template:Authority control and make it pull values from Wikidata? Then run your bot there, if there are no objections? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 16:22, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

Persondata not orphaned
we get new ones every week. Frietjes (talk) 19:57, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

- @Pigsonthewing: Do you mean a message when editing the page or a message which is also visible for readers of the page (recreating the template with a warning box)? I would prefer the first solution. No more persondata ;-). I could also run the script in my crontab every night..? -- T.seppelt (talk) 11:16, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
- I meant the latter, and implemented it before seeing your comment. See this test, which also applies a tracking category. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:27, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Pigsonthewing: I've CSDd it as a G4--recreation of material deleted per discussion. If you think the template should be recreated (to track, or whatnot), WP:DRV is the correct venue, not WP:BOLD. --Izno (talk) 11:30, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks, Izno. I would prefer to remove it. Did we have other case where we used big warning boxes in the main namespace? I'll continue to run the program. -- T.seppelt (talk) 11:32, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
- Your use of G4 was utterly bogus, as is your assertion regarding DRV. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:35, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
- You're cute. The solution you created was explicitly not the solution selected by the admin in closing the TFD. That does require WP:DRV. --Izno (talk) 11:37, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

- No. What does concern me is inappropriate use of speedy deletion criteria; WP:G4 is too-often used for plain and simple "recreation of a page that was deleted per a deletion discussion" - but this is just its summary title. This is expanded, two phrases are significant here: "sufficiently identical copies", and "it excludes pages that are not substantially identical to the deleted version"; and the
{{db-repost}}
template also says this: "is substantially identical to the deleted version". The template as created today by Pigsonthewing has very little in common with the template as it had been prior to deletion, except that both had<noinclude>{{documentation}}</noinclude>
. --Redrose64 (talk) 11:54, 22 July 2016 (UTC)- @Redrose64: Is there a CSD criterion that would satisfy you, or do you seriously think this requires a new TFD, given that the closing admin did not select that option? --Izno (talk) 11:56, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
- It's not my job to find one: it's my job to evaluate the page against the criterion chosen by the tagger, and delete only if the criterion is satisfied; if not, de-tag with explanation. If you cannot find a suitable criterion, that suggests that none are applicable, and in that case a second TfD may well be your only route if you really feel that deletion is necessary. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:43, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

Bruce Woodcock
Hi there - you seem to updating the website about my father Bruce Woodcock, which is great, but you have perpetuated the incorrect information that he was born in 1921; he was actually born in 1920 and I have the birth certificate to prove it; so if you could correct that, I'd appreciate it. thanks for the link to my website: I still have to finish it and now have an incentive to do so as you have put together some very good material links - thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by BruceWoodcockJnr (talk • contribs) 22:01, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
"Manel" on svwp
Hi! I'm bewildered as to why "Manel" at svwp is not showing the authority data template in the article footer. The template sv:mall:Auktoritetsdata is there, and I've thrice (now for a fourth time) added the MusicBrainz info to it. Three times this info has been removed by Kasparbot and (presumably) transported to Wikidata. The MBA info is there right now. But every time Kasparbot removed the local authority data links, the template vanished from the article footer (though still being present in the code). So what's up? No other article I know of at svwp has had this kind of problem, and in general I greatly value the work done by Kasparbot. Many thanks for a tip, and all the best.--Paracel63 (talk) 21:31, 29 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hi! Yesterday KasparBot dit it again… Now I've undone that apparently disruptive edit. For the time being (and until the problem is resolved) I've entered
{{bots|deny=KasparBot}}
into the article code. If you have the time, feel free to respond to my inquiry in the matter. Best of wishes.--Paracel63 (talk) 22:32, 30 July 2016 (UTC)- @Paracel63: Done sorry for the delay. I was travelling and couldn't check my messages. The problem was in sv:Modul:Auktoritetsdata. I fixed it. The module checks if the connected item represents a musician or a music group etc. before adding the MusicBrainz artist identifier to the box. I added musical ensemble (Q2088357) to the list. Thank you for reporting the problem. Best, -- T.seppelt (talk) 20:37, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
- So this is/was a problem common with musicians and the template in svwp? Many thanks for the fix.--Paracel63 (talk) 00:48, 13 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Paracel63: yes, the problem affected all pages which have a instance of (P31) musical ensemble (Q2088357) statement on Wikidata. -- T.seppelt (talk) 07:04, 13 August 2016 (UTC)

Where to report issues about kasparbot/persondata ?
Hi, I'm asking you as indicated in Persondata FAQ. I would like to suggest to the creator of the kasparbot/persondata tool to avoid challenges where the suggested Wikidata item is exactly the same as what is already in WD. Any clue? --Laddo (talk) 21:19, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Laddo: Hi. Yes, this is the right place to point out bugs and ask for new features. I'm the maintainer of the tool. I actually knew about the bug you describe but never had time to fix it. I deployed now a patch which should take care of it. Places were affected as well as dates. It would be great if you could test it a bit and write me in case you find anything else. Migrating Persondata to Wikidata
Hi, can you please migrate Persondata from ro:wiki? We decided to delete this template, and it would be verry helpful if you could run Template:Persondata KasparBot for this task. Thank you in advance!Ionutzmovie (talk) 07:58, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
--T.seppelt (talk) 08:38, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
- Both. You don't need any bot request, since the deletion was postponed because I couldn't do these two tasks (copying the info at Wikidata and then deleting the template from the article), which I hope your bot can do. I see you already have the bot flag on ro:wiki, so you can proceed. :)Ionutzmovie (talk) 08:57, 28 December 2016 (UTC)

Removing Authority data
Why did your bot this removal? Migrating AD to Wikidata is OK, but template should stay in article. JAn Dudík (talk) 12:30, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
- @JAn Dudík: I think this is related to the fact that the template occurred twice in the page. I'll check the program. Warm regards, --T.seppelt (talk) 15:18, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
- I thin so, because I found some more problematic pages (during adding template) and there were more templates too... JAn Dudík (talk) 17:58, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

This is a request for you I guess: Wikipedia:Bot_requests#Addition_of_tl:Authority_control. -- Magioladitis (talk) 09:24, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
- Hello T.seppelt. So the story is, I ran a sample Petscan to find thousands of en.wiki articles without {{authority control}}, where the linked wikidata item had VIAF data. Grateful if you could tell me if KasparBot is available to do the necessary heavy lifting, and if so, let me know whether I can assist by putting petscans together, or providing lists of qualifying articles. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) 17:33, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
@Magioladitis and Tagishsimon: I'm taking care of it. -- T.seppelt (talk) 19:03, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
- Any timescale for taking care of it? I guess I don't understand why kasperbot does only a handful of edits a day when there are tens of thousands of qualifying articles. --Tagishsimon (talk) 01:34, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Tagishsimon: I started the programme with the list of articles you gave me. I thought it finished regularly, but I can have another look at it. The bot performs several tasks. The one which moves authority control info to Wikidata starts every night at 0:00 UTC whereas the one which inserts the template into articles is not on the crontab and has to be started manually. the problem is somehow that the amount of pages which need to be scanned is huge. First one needs to find Wikidata items with ac data and enwiki sitelinks (more than a million) and then they have to be checked for the template. Petscan is just not powerful enough to do this all at once. I am working at a better solution. --T.seppelt (talk) 07:51, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

Alias-Challenge and Library of Congress Authorities
I don't know the best current location for a notice such as this, to people who work on Alias-Challenge (for English-language writers mainly).
Library of Congress Authorities reports "Variant(s)" forms of an authorized contributor name such as Eleanor Farjeon. Most of those are not similarly authorized. For some alternative names it also states such as this for Eleanor Farjeon LCCN n50-009191:
- See also[:] Tomfool, 1881-1965
- Browse this term in LC Authorities [linked]
This display usually means that "Tomfool" is also authorized, with its own LCCN and page at Library of Congress Authorities--as for Tomfool, click-thru shows. The library has not catalogued any books published as by Tomfool (written/illustrated/edited/etc).
LCCN for the authorized variant name (here nr92037038) generally does not appear in the Wikidata field LCAuth--as it now does not appear at Wikidata:Eleanor Farjeon.
(I have not "decided" the Alias-Challenge for Eleanor Farjeon "Tomfool".) --P64 (talk) 22:54, 26 March 2017 (UTC)
"Please stop adding persondata" yet edit was in 2010
Hi, on my talk page your bot left a message telling me to "Please stop adding persondata" and linking to the edit that added it, yet the edit was in 2010. The article is based on two different sources. How many more sources may be needed to eliminate the ugly tags?. I personally think that the external links decisively collaborate on the authentication of personal information, and it is a little too much to ask for more information. I have seen articles accepted with much less information than this one, and I am very curious about why applying such an utterly harsh standard to this one. I sincerely appreciate a response. --Ernesto53 (talk) 15:48, 29 April 2017 (UTC)

- @Trilotat: (talk page stalker) This user is no longer active on this Wikipedia (last edit was last year). Also, the bot was blocked over a year ago. Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 21:58, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Dreamy Jazz: Thanks. I think I've figured out some of the data migration. Thanks. -Trilotat (talk) 22:14, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
William Volker Article
Hi. What is your bot designed to do? It deleted an infobox on the William Volker article (Revision as of 22:57, April 4, 2016) that has no apparent reason for its deletion. Was there any foundation for its deletion, or this just a Bot gone wild? Regards... Stevenmitchell (talk) 16:01, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Stevenmitchell: It removed the deprecated WP:persondata. --Izno (talk) 22:51, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
- Was there an actual reason for its deprecation or was it accidental? Stevenmitchell (talk) 19:29, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Stevenmitchell: Did you review WP:Persondata? --Izno (talk) 20:52, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
- (talk)Hi, Izno... Do you know what we would use in its place for an Infobox, since it has been deprecated? Stevenmitchell (talk) 19:07, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Stevenmitchell: You can try using {{infobox person}}? --Izno (talk) 19:52, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

Kasparbot useful for moving authority data
Hi! Many thanks for the work you have done on Catalan Wikipedia, moving manually inserted authority data to their respective objects on Wikidata. This has helped me a lot, and useful in complementing my administrative work with authority data on cawp. Lately though, it seems your activity has stopped, both on cawp and on svwp. It would be great if you could restart your work here, moving info from these articles in the same manner. I like being a Wikipedian and tries to mostly being active on Wikipedia (Catalan and Swedish), reserving my time on Wikidata to when it's most needed (still, a couple of thousand edits). I think it's fun and easy to add link info into the authority data templates via the respective pages on VIAF, and goes fast. Having to do it manually on Wikidata would take me more time and feel a lot less productive.
What do you think? I've heard of some issues with the other work with your bot, but with moving authority data on svwp and cawp I haven't notices any bad effects as of yet. Maybe @ReginaManresa: also would appreciate this renewed work? Many thanks in advance. —Paracel63 (talk) 11:06, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
- Hi! I must tell you I am not at all knowledgeable about technical issues, but since I spend quite a time doing menial work (not that it bothers me), I really do think it is a great idea to have it done by a bot. Thank you all ReginaManresa (talk) 06:13, 21 March 2019 (UTC)
- @ReginaManresa and Paracel63: thank you for your kind words. Unfortunately, I won't be able to continue running KasparBot. As you noticed, I have been absent for quite some time and busy with other things. This resulted in poor maintenance and the bot's deactivation on the English Wikipedia. Despite that I started again to make some minor edits in the last weeks, I'm not willing to set up the bot again as I don't feel up-to-date anymore and reestablishing it would be very labour-consuming. Feel free to look at the code [2] and use it (or convince someone to use it) to further move VIAF data to Wikidata. Best wishes, -- T.seppelt (talk) 07:08, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
- Just a note that I found Kasparbot extremely useful and appreciate the work you put into it :) ! – SJ + 16:40, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
- I also found the bot very useful. Maybe someone with much more technical skill than me can post it to the correct page to see if someone else will adopt it? Pinging Tagishsimon SusunW (talk) 20:45, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

Is this template still used? It's showing up in Category:Pages with broken graphs. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 22:25, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
