Formatting

Disagree entirely about not displaying dashes in the 'total', and that is not reflected by the MOS or my experience, if you want I can give you plenty of examples where that is the case but then we're in a 'which version is right/OTHERSTUFFEXISTS' argument - and I have never seen full names for players in squad templates where they share an initial and surname, only the way I did it, see e.g. this with the Woods (albeit my edit). Hello. You'll see on the Dennis Harper (footballer) page a section called References, which lists a load of newspaper articles (newspaper, title, date etc). All those were accessed on the British Newspaper Archive, which is a subscription site if you want to read the full articles. You can search for free, but you'll only get snippets of the article. E.g. CLICK ON THIS and you should see the snippet results of the sort of searches that I used.

Might be worth finding out if your local public library has a subscription which their members can access, either on the computers in the actual library or (if you're lucky) from your own home computer; quite a lot do these days. Hope this helps, Struway2 (talk) 19:04, 28 August 2021 (UTC)

RMCD bot

Hi, I have started a discussion on the bot's talk page about an improvement in it's programming. When I looked at it's contributions, I noticed on a handful of talk pages that the bot still leaves the original post after adding it earlier. This is because a vandal posted a mass move request then someone else removed it, but after RMCD bot says in it's edit summary "Removing transcluded notice of move discussion", the text still remains in place. About my Wikipedia edits

Hello, User:Struway2.

I am asking you if you can edit the six pages that I edited before and cannot edit the six pages in the future because of my disruptive editing. I do feel like my edits have been for nothing and, in my opinion, is considered to be the biggest failure as a Wikipedia editor. I tried so hard to edit the six articles and keeping there for a long time. I do admit the reverts of the six pages affects me deeply that I am thinking about giving up editing Wikipedia in the future. I think I can move on with my life if you edit the six pages. At least, other users are unlikely to revert your edits. I do struggle a lot when it comes to editing Wikipedia because of my autism and learning difficulty. I am sure you can understand my problem, right?

As you said before, "I can be too indiscriminate in what I include, and sometimes uses more references than necessary. But I do include some excellent informative sources, which saves anyone trying to improve a page an awful lot of time and effort. Image layout

Hi, thanks for your message. That layout looks fine on my mobile, but may not look the same on my work desktop where I do a lot of my edits when I get a minute (less fiddly than on a phone) - but I realise that's not a very common viewing method nowadays. I'll have a look on my laptop as well. I appreciate that the gallery style is a bit of a wall of images breaking up the flow of text, and the 'down the side' maintains that flow, but not a big fan especially for these lists which often have quite a lot of info columns in each row and space is at a premium. In something like List of Manchester United F.C. players, there are so many images that whitespace is inevitable even in mobile with the far smaller image display format, and looking at the list I'm not sure where enough space could be created to fit them down the side of the table. But I'm definitely open to suggestion to find something that suits everyone and complies with the various requirements. Crowsus (talk) 19:23, 23 December 2021 (UTC)

Krystian Pearce

I'm admittedly a little taken aback by your revert of and comment on my edit to Krystian Pearce's page. Am I missing something about what I did with the edit? The sentence "Born in [birth country], he represents the [non-birth country national team]" is nearly universal—and very much consensus—for players who were born in one country but represent another internationally. The reason I deleted "international" from the short description is because I have not seen that very often in short descriptions for players. In any case, I'm totally fine with you reverting my edit if I've done something obviously incorrect or counterproductive, especially if I don't realize it. But with this one, I'm confused about what I've done that is against standard practice. Anyhow, thanks for your work on Wikipedia. I hope you have a great day. Kyle Naughton's DOB

You may remember that three years ago you pointed out via Twitter that this player's birthday is always 17 November each year instead of the 11th. I can still find a couple of sources that Wikipedia users regularly use which still shows his DOB incorrectly: Barry Hugman, 11v11, plus footballdatabase.eu and FootballSquads which I think are less used. The Barry Hugman ref is currently in use as ref 4 on the article which might still make some people get confused as to why there are two dates of birth for this player even though we now know 17 is correct per our discussion 3 years ago. If you or anyone else knows the email addresses for these websites I've linked above then hopefully that solves the problem about any future confusion about why this player somehow has two date of births and obviously that's impossible.

Also three years ago I noticed the announcement that the player's birthday appears to be 17 November, the updated Swansea profile that I replaced on the article had 17 November as well so I started that discussion to come to the conclusion that the "Swansea date" was definitely right. Misreading 7's as 1's are common mistakes and presumably that happened when he started his football with Sheffield United or Gretna back in 2008 when Wikipedia didn't have me or a handful of other football editors as a registered user in those days. Excessive bolding?

I don't see how it can be classed as "excessive bolding" when clubs that have achieved good article and featured article status use the same format,

@Joseph1891: You may be aware that Wikipedia has a Manual of style that outlines how we're supposed to format stuff, or not supposed to format stuff. MOS:BOLD is the bit about bolding: there's nothing in there to suggest that details of football club's honours would come under the permitted uses. As to featured and good article status, see WP:Other stuff exists: featured articles are supposed to follow all the Manual of Style, and maybe they did when they were promoted to that status, or maybe the reviewers weren't as fussy as they should have been, or maybe the fancy formatting's been added since by people who think that it looking better to them is more important than following the boring old rules. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:37, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

Here on the page, Mohammedan SC (Kolkata), Mr. Debankan Mullick made a ton of edits, removing important data, records, file–images, citations and others, without mentioning edit summaries. According to me (who, within a year or more than that, contributed neutral data, references, and things related to the club), those edits (few of those, are acceptable; others are synonymous of vandalism) predominantly made the article poor, inappropriate, and "damaged". I'm requesting you, if possible, please take a look on those happenings, and fix/restore all necessary data and references, to make the article "healthy".
