Source use review
editYou made helpful critiques of my sourcing practices at Psychology of eating meat a while ago, and as I revise the article I want to be sure I'm addressing your concerns. I'd be grateful if you could let me know what you think of the refs in the section at User:FourViolas/sandbox/Meat. Content addition and wordsmithing still needs to be done, but I've applied the following WP:V principles:
- Statements of fact sourced to MEDRS standards: recent review articles in mainstream journals (or books from academic presses), with page number
- Summaries of particular studies cited to a secondary source summarizing them (with page number) as well as to the primary source (no particular page).
- Qualitative level of support ("indicated", "demonstrated", "suggested", no qualification) acknowledged
- sfn format
Hope you're well! I've put in some more effort at Graham technique and a bit at Floorwork, if you're curious. FourViolas (talk) 04:41, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
- Heya Violas! I caught your ping yesterday, but didn't respond because I didn't feel I had time to address it in detail and give it effort to reflect the work you've put into this. I'm doing research right now, on top of other obligations, so time is a little bit of an issue (I know, a perennial excuse for me lately!). I'll do my absolute best to share my thoughts in the next couple of days, though; I looked at the then-current version and your new sources, a day or two back, and have a basic idea of where I think attention is needed most. For tonight, I'm going to quickly look at what Floorwork looks like these days! :)
- On a separate note, I hope your first year at Harvard was eye-opening, exciting, and encouraging! I hope there has been headway in converting you increasingly to the psychological sciences? Snow let's rap 05:06, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hmm, I must be remembering it wrong, from the looks of the rev history, but I could have sworn that there was a floorwork article already that was a generalist one (talked about the unifying concept of floorwork across dance, acrobatics, martial arts, and so forth). But maybe I am just remembering something that was proposed. Anyway, the current version looks great! I can't wait to read that last source, by the way--it sounds like a fascinating read. The link is currently not quite right I think (at least, I could not access the document via the link), but I'll look for it soon in any event. Glad we have you back for these things for part of the summer, it seems! Snow let's rap 05:15, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks! It was all three in spades, although so far I've found myself doing more biology (in three kingdoms, none of which includes anything with a central nervous system). Good luck with your research, and no need for a close substantive review: when you get around to it, I'd just like to be reassured that I've correctly identified a bunch of respectable secondary sources, and that citing secondary sources' summaries of individual studies is appropriate.
- That's the plan for floorwork, and fingers crossed Guest's book will take the article a long way in that direction if I can convince Harvard to buy it for me. Labanotators are often interested in movement analysis from ballet to public speaking and everything in between, which would be perfect. I fixed the link; the article looks very interesting, although barely mentioning floorwork. FourViolas (talk) 05:35, 25 July 2016 (UTC)

Opinion
editMy opinion is, when a non-admin closes an ANI thread, the {{nac}} tag should accompany it, especially when making such a long and authoritative close as you did. Since this has been standard operating procedure for many years, I'm wondering if you would go back and add that tag to your close. Softlavender (talk) 02:47, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
- Done I had never noticed that to be the trend, but, in the interest of transparency, it does seem best practice. Just as a matter of record though, I don't view my posting as particularly authoritative; I feel I mostly just summed up the general consensus and the state of affairs after the involved parties made some concessions; I'd not have closed at ANI if I felt it required me to make any policy call or judgement of behaviour. In this instance the discussion seemed moot, since Mjolnir expressed a clear wish to be done with the article, vow and all. The rest I intended as a simple boiler plate appeal to civility and good faith. Snow let's rap 05:13, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

Biography feedback requested
editYour input is requested about an RFC regarding Donald Trump. Here is a link directly to that RFC. The lead of that biography currently says, "Many of his statements in interviews, on Twitter, and at campaign rallies have been controversial." The RFC proposes to insert the words "or false" at the end of that sentence. Thank you in advance for participating. If you have the time, there is a second RFC at that talk page which proposes to instead add the words "or hyperbolic".Anythingyouwant (talk) 00:44, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

editHi. I wrote "Times said 'grave'" Did you think I read that to be your comment? Please have a look and reconsider your reply. Thanks. SPECIFICO talk 03:39, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, SPECIFICO; I actually just corrected the indentation on that post; it was meant to respond to Times and not to you, and is indented to properly reflect that now. Sorry for any confusion! Snow let's rap 03:42, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, now I understand. I think that you've just identified the kind of misrepresentation that seems to be Times' stock-in-trade. Unfortunately that's a fairly effective tactic for many disruptive editors. They know that others rarely take the time to follow up and check links and sources for allegations such as the suggestion that you made the "grave" judgment. Anyway thanks for the clarification. BTW my take on this is that One Shot is excitable but trying to do the right thing and capable of self-correction, whereas Times is obsessive and hostile to those who disagree with his views. SPECIFICO talk 03:45, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- At present, I feel they both have a way to come as regards honest self-reflection of their behaviour. But yes, TTAC's tendency to present his interpretation of the mindset of other editors as plain fact (both as regards those he is in conflict with and those he believes to be supporting his views) is very problematic. Whether he is doing it consciously or as a consequence of seeing what he wants to see, I wouldn't care to speculate, but it threatens to undermine his entire position and, more importantly, will likely preclude any effort to resolve the disagreement between them civilly and without sanction for either. Snow let's rap 04:07, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- But SPECIFICO's examples of my alleged proclivity for "misrepresentations" are absurdly trivial (see, e.g., the recent spat regarding TFD—virtually every editor could be accused of "misrepresentation" if our standard of evidence was that low). Here's a hint: I'm quoting someone when I use quotation marks! In fact, SPECIFICO is guilty of far more serious misrepresentations regarding myself—for example, "Times falsely stated that it had been I who inserted (the mugshot) in the article." Elsewhere, SPECIFICO steadfastly maintains "I haven't commented on anything that was done by Whiskey—and cites my statement to the contrary as one of my supposed misrepresentations—yet, here he is again, commenting on Oneshotofwhiskey's conduct: "My take on this is that One Shot is excitable but trying to do the right thing and capable of self-correction." I think that says it all about SPECIFICO—who has been topic banned himself for exactly that sort of duplicitous behavior, and who has held a grudge against me since 2012, which doubtless influences his perception of this case.TheTimesAreAChanging (talk) 04:29, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- Gentleman (I believe you both to be gentleman, please let me know if I err), please, there is little to be gained from trading observations here about eachother's purported failings with regard to rationality or forthrightness. If there's history here, the best advice I can offer is to try to see past it. There's already a great deal of emotion invested in the dispute that might be obscuring best-case solutions to the conflict. Snow let's rap 04:54, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- No history here at all on my side. There seems to be a little Psychological projection on Time's end, which would be consistent with his other behavior. When he started berating me and making personal attacks, I used one of the software tools to see why he was stalking me and found about a dozen edit overlaps on 3 articles from 4 years ago. I guess I am quite a memorable girl. SPECIFICO talk 12:35, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- "He was stalking me and found about a dozen edit overlaps on 3 articles from 4 years ago." The "stalking" allegation makes no sense. If we haven't interacted in four years, and then we recently interacted on one article—Dinesh D'Souza—that could be because I was stalking you to get revenge for four years ago—or maybe we both just happen to have D'Souza on our Watchlists.TheTimesAreAChanging (talk) 18:50, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

- Hi - I've responded to your comment on this RFC to clarify something that I think you missed. It's not that important but I wanted it to be clear to you - the picture you prefer wasn't the "status quo", but was actually added to the article by someone other than me (actually, by the person who took the "table photo") after the RFC was started. Tduk (talk) 13:02, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Tduk; I see, thank you for the extra context--I'll amend my comments on the RfC accordingly, and also re-title the caption for the image in the gallery, if you have not done so already. I do continue to feel that the present image is the best, and that it ought to be considered, but I appreciate you bringing the full info and context to my attention. Snow let's rap 00:53, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
- Apart from user problems, in miniature it's ok, if a bit harshly lit, but if you expand it, it's a horrible pixelated and blurry photo. This is why I take the pictures the way I do, with natural lighting and high resolution with low compression - people have complained about inferior Wikipedia pictures to me. Thanks for contributing to the RFC either way! Tduk (talk) 23:55, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

WikiProject Anatomy newsletter #5
editWP:Anatomy newsletter (#5)
Hello WP:Anatomy participant! This is our fifth newsletter, documenting what's going on in WikiProject Anatomy, news, current projects and other items of interest. There hasn't been too much worthy of news, and I have less time to dedicate to this project, so I've slowed down the release of this newsletter.
I value feedback, and if you think I've missed something, or don't wish to receive this again, please leave a note on my talk page, or remove your name from the mailing list
- What's new
- Adrenal gland, thyroid ima artery, Ear, Heart, Esophagus and Lung are promoted to good article status
- Our previous barnstar has changed to the new shiny "Golden galen" barnstar to celebrate contributions to anatomical articles
- We are featured in the journal Clinical Anatomy [1]
- How can I contribute?
- Participate in discussions - a number of discussions such as those on our talk page or about our infobox would benefit from your opinion!
- Continue to add content to our articles
- Collaborate and discuss with other editors - many hands make light work!
- Focus - how far we've come
How far have we come since our first newsletter... the answer is quite a lot! Here goes:
- Hundreds to thousands of articles improved and standardised by many, many editors.
- 14 new good articles created or added to our project [2]
- Improved quality of our articles - subjectively and objectively. GAs quadrupled from 5 to 16, B-class articles doubles from 62 to 115, C-class article well on the way to trebling from 219 to 611, Start-class increased from 1,082 to 1,570.
- Tens to hundreds of mergers performed between tiny, unedited articles - a remnant of our Gray's Anatomy (1918) heritage.
- Layout guidelines changed and layout standardised for the majority of our articles
- In the project space:
- WikiProject Animal Anatomy created
- 20-30+ new members
- 200+ new editors welcomed with our new welcome template
- Interdisciplinary category system to help new editors
- Active integration with wikidata in our infoboxes
- Overhaul of all of our navboxes
- Review and integration of all of our templates
- External link templates reviewed to ensure they all work
- To help improve anatomical literacy:
- Creation of a suite of five Anatomical terminology articles, and overhaul of existing articles
- Creation of the {{Anatomy-terms}} template created
- Links provided in infoboxes
- Simplifying anatomical terminology essay released
These are substantial improvements and my thanks go out to our many editors who played a part in this. These improvements are almost always the result of consensus, compromise, collaboration and discussion between multiple editors.
I hope we can continue to improve in the future. How can you help? Continue to edit, add content, and create a welcoming atmosphere so that new editors will join us.
Well done to us all, and the many anonymous editors who've helped along the way!

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!
editHello, Snow Rise. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
