editI'm curious as to exactly what the "points" attached to edits mean. Where do these come from? What differentiates between positive and negative scores? Do they matter? Thanks! SiliconRed (talk) 19:00, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
- Siliconred If you mean the number in parenthesis (ie. (+21)) etc...that's the size of the edit, they're not points. CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 19:46, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
- Ohhhh. That makes much more sense. Thanks! SiliconRed (talk) 19:49, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:98 Battle Road.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:98 Battle Road.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ronhjones (Talk) 18:52, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Ronhjones, I'm new to uploading media to Wikipedia, this was for my first new article. Thanks for this information on Wikipedia's fair use policy. I'm going to follow your instructions and leave more information on the talk page for the image and add an explanation, as I believe this qualifies under the non-free content fair use policy. If you have any recommendations for checking to see if an image is available for free use, I would appreciate a link to further information or any explanations you have off hand. I plan on looking for a fair-use version of an image of the same building. Thanks! SiliconRed (talk) 19:57, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
Infobox DS alert
editPlease carefully read this information:
The Arbitration Committee has authorised discretionary sanctions to be used for pages regarding discussions about infoboxes and to edits adding, deleting, collapsing, or removing verifiable information from infoboxes, a topic which you have edited. The Committee's decision is here.
Discretionary sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimize disruption to controversial topics. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to the topic that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behavior, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. This message is to notify you that sanctions are authorised for the topic you are editing. Before continuing to edit this topic, please familiarise yourself with the discretionary sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions. Please see above. While this template is not itself an indication of any wrongdoing, I reckon it's time to heed the various comments from others to give it a bit of a rest with the reopening of straw polls and infobox discussions at the Stanley Kubrick article. I count three discussions this year, and the constant return to it is getting disruptive. Appreciate your desire for a firm yes/no outcome on infobox inclusion, but as RexxS points out, if there's arguments on either side they'll be just as valid in a couple of months time. -- Euryalus (talk) 02:09, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks Euryalus for the comment. I've added my support of placing a restriction on the page, and don't intend to add to the discussion. SiliconRed (talk) 16:23, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

editHello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.
When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:
Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)
I noticed your recent edit to Celebration Day (film) does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.
Edit summary content is visible in:
Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! - FlightTime (open channel) 15:10, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for November 4
editAn automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of American films of 1933, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Above the Clouds (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver).
(Opt-out instructions.) --DPL bot (talk) 13:37, 4 November 2018 (UTC)
Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Hey Siliconred! I see that you're also a bit frustrated by Wikipedia's naming conventions when it comes to sports teams. I've submitted an idea at the Village pump (idea lab), and I'm hoping that the draft proposal can be suitably refined and then proposed properly. I think it would be of interest to you, and I'd be extremely interested to hear any feedback that you have to offer on the proposal. Domeditrix (talk) 20:53, 17 October 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Domeditrix! Thanks for this proposal--I think the idea of restructuring the PRIMARYTOPIC policy is an excellent approach to solving the problems encountered over on the England sports pages, with the added benefit of generalizing the subject across more articles than just football teams in Europe. I'll certainly help refine and comment on the proposal over at the Village pump. Thanks again for your work on the topic. SiliconRed (talk) 21:07, 17 October 2019 (UTC)

editWomen in Red
editHi there, Siliconred, and welcome to Women in Red. From your essay "Editing the World's Largest Encyclpedia, I see you have a strong interest in supporting the coverage of women. As you have already created a few biographies of men, you seem to be well set to start some on women. Before you do so, you might find it useful to look through our Ten Simple Rules. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 08:48, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks! I am very much looking forward to contributing to Wikipedia with a more direct eye on improving coverage of women. I'll take a look at those guidelines, and I'm looking forward to reading discussions within the project and helping other editors who are members of the project.
