Deleted per WP:V and WP:BLP. If editors (including you!) added WP:RS in the first place this would not be an issue. GiantSnowman 09:48, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

Well no, you clearly don't add references, hence why we're in this predicament. I have re-added the club stats, please add reliable sources ASAP before I remove it again. GiantSnowman 17:29, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
Unreferenced material you added back to the article which I have had to re-remove... GiantSnowman 18:14, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

One, it is considered poor form not to notify an article creator when you nominate an article for deletion. Two, Dimitri Tadić meets WP:NFOOTBALL and is notable. GiantSnowman 14:40, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Gastón Sauro, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please make use of the sandbox if you'd like to experiment with test edits. Thank you. GiantSnowman 07:48, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

No, you did, see diff where you remove the entire 'Swiss cup runner-up' element, including a reference. GiantSnowman 08:10, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
What do you mean "Runners-up medals are included for international competitions but not club competitions", on what basis are you claiming that? Matter raised at WT:FOOTBALL, please join the discussion there before making any more silly edits on your assumed community consensus. GiantSnowman 08:24, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
You're invoking WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, really? GiantSnowman 08:11, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
The MOS you cited even states "Achievements of the club including wins and second places" - so why remove runner-up places? You are contradicting yourself. GiantSnowman 15:03, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
I have removed that section of the MOS - what is a "large" number of "major" honours, who is defining those concepts? From the discussion at WT:FOOTBALL there is support for my edit, and no support for yours... GiantSnowman 15:07, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Kouassi Yao Hermann may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

WP:HARASS

I log on and find that you have reverted me c. 25 times overnight - please read WP:HARASS and please stop following me around Wikipedia. If you don't I'll be more than happy to report you. GiantSnowman 12:27, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

So you admit to targeting me/my edits specifically then? Please read WP:HARASS, the very same extract you posted on my talk page states that "this should always be done carefully [it isn't], and with good cause [it isn't], to avoid raising the suspicion [too late] that an editor's contributions are being followed to cause them distress, or out of revenge for a perceived slight [bingo]." You are annoyed following our run-in at the Gastón Sauro article, I get it, but following me around and being a nuisance is not the way to go about it. Some futher comments of yours that are concerning:
  • "Your deletions of these sections ere [sic] unwarranted" - nope, I am removing referenced content from Wikipedia fully in-line with WP:BLP and WP:V.
  • "I reverted edits where you deleted information that was referenced [...] you are violating wikipedia policy by deleting referenced material" - where exactly have I deleted referenced material?
  • "Lastly, for many of the edits, you did not give a vail reason for deleting them, because you fail to comment in the edit summary" - wrong, I provide an edit summary for every single of my edits. GiantSnowman 14:51, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
"You deleted reference material on countless occasions and if you check the edit summary for these pages, I commented on many of the times where you deleted referenced material" - where? Diffs please. If it happens as often as you claim it will be easy for you to find suitable diffs.
"And please expand further on how, what you are deleting is fully in line with wikipedia standards" - if you actually bothered to read WP:V ("and any material whose verifiability has been challenged or is likely to be challenged, must include an inline citation that directly supports the material [...] Please remove contentious material about living people that is unsourced or poorly sourced immediately") and WP:BLP ("any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be explicitly attributed to a reliable, published source, which is usually done with an inline citation. Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced – whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable – should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion") you would see why my edits are perfectly fine.
And let me just clarify a few things, for the avoidance of any doubt. I have ZERO problems with you, OK? No grudge is held. We had a disagreement, it was resolved following discussion, let's move on. I also have ZERO problems with you (or anybody else) restoring content that I (or anybody else) deleted, as long as the re-added info is suitably verified by reliable sources and in-line with our BLP policy. What I do take issue with is you deliberately targeting me/my edits, as you have clearly done here. GiantSnowman 15:07, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
"I am not deliberately targeting you. I noticed that many times on pages that I am editing or interested in" - so it's just a massive coincidence that you are only interested in articles that I have edited? Quite a few of these articles are watchlisted by me, I have never seen you edit any of them previously. In fact only edit(s) to said articles was to undo me!
Again, I am still waiting for these diffs of me removing referenced content...
No, the material is 'contentious' (definition of that word being "causing or likely to cause an argument; controversial") as can be seen by this exchange. GiantSnowman 15:49, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
I am not mad at you for adding referenced content (see my 'let me just clarify a few things, for the avoidance of any doubt' comment above!), I am concerned that you are targeting me/my edits.
Óscar Sonejee was a mistake, I hold my hands up completely. But one edit among the thousands I have made is not me going around removing referenced content as you have made it out to be.
I suppose we will disagree about whether this material is "contentious" or not, although a recent discussion at WP:BLPN on the matter seemed to agree with me. No bother - I will continue to remove unreferenced material, and you can continue to re-add it at a later date with reliable sources. Please note I tag 'Honours' as unreferenced, add them to this list, and then remove if still unreferenced after a month - feel free to have a crack at it if you want!
As a final thing, yes we need to work together - but that means not following me around please! GiantSnowman 16:34, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Voila - you will see comments from admins/BLP experts that "Anyone should have the freedom to remove unsourced information from any article, much more so a BLP, whether it is positive or negative" and "Unreferenced material can and should be deleted" and "Unreferenced material does not conform to one of the most basic policies, WP:V. Removal of such material is justified, particularly on BLPs"... GiantSnowman 19:18, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Err no I wasn't - see my earlier comment that "I also have ZERO problems with you (or anybody else) restoring content that I (or anybody else) deleted, as long as the re-added info is suitably verified by reliable sources and in-line with our BLP policy." I don't think I can be much clearer than that, and nowhere did I say you re-adding this stuff was contentious. GiantSnowman 19:23, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Dashes

Why type ndash; when you can simply click on the En dash in the panel and get the same result? -- Bikeroo (talk) 22:22, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Sorry for my rather cryptic reply last night – I was just off to bed. In scorelines (including in references), article titles, headings & sub-headings etc., you must always use the endash, never the ordinary dash (-) from your keyboard (which is really a minus sign). Rather than type "ndash;" it is easier to use the – symbol on the panel below the edit window. The symbol is the very first one in the "Insert" window, NOT the dash (−) between ± and ×.
I don't know if that's any clearer. Bikeroo (talk) 06:12, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

Ryan Bertrand

Please ignore my edits this morning. I got in a muddle. On reflection, your version was correct, other than the wrong dashes! Cheers. Bikeroo (talk) 05:28, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Honours

Hello there,

Nice to see someone else helping out with the Macosal/BLP list. This all arose as a result of a huge barney between editors (or primarily three or four vs one) in June; check out Wiki Project Football - Referencing honours and BLP Noticeboard-Football honours section to see what I mean. Sadly, for all the hoo-haa on this issue only two or three editors have since bothered to help out on the Macosal/BLP list.

I myself tend to ignore BLPs of top Premiership or European footballers that appear on the list - when their honours gets unceremoniously deleted it will be quickly noticed and other editors will add them back in fairly promptly - I try to concentrate on the more obscure BLPs where if material gets deleted, its less likely to get noticed and possibly gone for good.

Of course, why when people come across unsourced material they don't make even a cursory effort to look for sources before deleting, who knows....... :( ShugSty (talk) 17:34, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

Career tables MOS

When adding them back, you might also want to 'convert' to adhere to the MOS, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Players#Career statistics. Case in point = both Andy Najar and Freddie Ljungberg. GiantSnowman 08:16, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

No, unfortunately not, it has to be done manually - which is why I haven't converted the referenced tables either! GiantSnowman 12:00, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

RE: Match Against Poverty

I'm by no means an expert on copyright, but best I can tell the only UN documents published prior to 1987 that are subject to copyright are listed on page 7 of this document. Since it doesn't include the UNDP logo, I'm pretty sure you're okay to add it. Sir Sputnik (talk) 17:56, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

Regarding the table, it's up to you, why not be bold and just do it? If you get reverted (unlikely) then the matter should be raised on the article talk page and/or at WT:FOOTY. GiantSnowman 12:03, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Rolando Aarons

Thank you for your edits on Rolando Aarons. However, we do not add in unnecessary columns such as "Europe" when the club does not play in any European competitions, as it applies to Newcastle United this season. It could be a case where the player never plays in Europe for his entire career and we do not want a redundant column littered with -s or –s. We only add them when the club is playing in Europe, even if the player does not make any appearances. cheers. LRD 00:12, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

'Fraid you won't be needing that column for some time, considering the mismanagement at the club. :) LRD 00:54, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Barcelona positions by round statistics

Minor issue here, but I don't understand why I received the revert notification, since I was only updating the total matches and goals, as well as the result. Arbero (talk) 21:24, 1 November 2014 (UTC)

I'll take it as a gaffe from your side then. No worries.   Arbero (talk) 21:34, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
I was referring to the revert notification I received when you should have warned User:SupernovaeIA about the positions by round edit instead of me. Arbero (talk) 21:50, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
Fair enough. And sorry about the gaffe comment, I'll take it back. Arbero (talk) 22:02, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
Glad to hear that! And no, you were not being confrontational. :) Happy editing! Arbero (talk) 23:11, 1 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi,

When the editor do something wrong we give him a warning (level 1), if he continues he gets a level 2-warning and so on. Level 4 is final warning and if vandalism continues after a final warning the editor can be reported to WP:AIV. QED237 (talk) 12:20, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

Just a small thing. The picture in RR's international career was once his lead picture, chosen as such as it featured only him, and nobody else. Personally, in my tastes, I prefer this image for his international career, as it shows him playing against a world football icon. '''tAD''' (talk) 21:47, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

Good to see you back

I was starting to dread that you had left Wikipedia until I saw your edits on Gignac. If you look at that article, the Marseille section was barely touched after his first of FIVE seasons, there's plenty more we can add together and even break it up into season-by-season. August 2015

Your recent editing history at Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you get reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Sean Richard Dulake, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Morning Star and Feast of the Gods (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Nicolás Otamendi

Surely, you are aware of WP:3RR, which you fell foul of. But the main reason for issuing the warning to you was because of failure to work collaboratively. Certainly, you do not expect me to elaborate since you are an experienced editor and are well aware of what you have been doing. Please verify that you did not behave in any manner described in WP:DE, and specifically point 4 of this section. I have no doubt that your behavior is because consider your addition to be an improvement and accurate, but you did not bother discussing it before performing several reversions. The problem with leaving the disputed content that you added (IMO) is that it can be picked up by other editors who would cite this case to justify and propagate the issue (while it has not yet reached resolution). — AnakimiHoller   23:04, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

I did not accuse you of vandalism. Disruptive editing is not vandalism, though vandalism is disruptive. If you genuinely believe you are being bullied, then that is serious, and WP:ANI is the place to go. I explained why I thought you re-adding the content while it was in contention was problematic. At the point of issuing the warning, you were also the only editor that had exceeded 3RR. That, coupled with your addition of the content, is why I only warned you. I cannot speak for the behavior of anybody else towards you. I understand you are feeling frustrated, but I encourage you to keep your calm and continue putting your forth your views in the ongoing discussion. — AnakimiHoller   23:42, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi there - Wikipedia relies on reliable sources to verify information, especially about living people. As I said in my edit summary, please see WP:REDLINKS - where possible we should link to uncreated but notable topics (such as the Le Havre individual seasons) to encourage article creation. The reason why Quimper links to the league and not the club seasons is because the club seasons are not notable, see WP:NSEASONS. GiantSnowman 14:30, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

But they are though - Ligue 2 is fully-pro, so a club season in Ligue 2 is notable. GiantSnowman 14:37, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

2020–21 AEK Athens F.C. season moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, 2020–21 AEK Athens F.C. season, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Fernando Santos (Portuguese footballer) - and many many others

Hi there,

was only trying to reach a compromise, and i feel no harm is done while presenting clubs in full in storyline. OK, no worries, sorry to bother you (Mr. Santos' article - and many many others - stays incoherent how you want, some clubs piped and others "not so much")!

Attentively --Quite A Character (talk) 02:28, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi Quite A Character, no bother at all. In the English speaking world, we drop FC (or CF) when referring to clubs so teams are known as Barcelona, Chelsea, PAOK, Bayern Munich, Juventus, etc. I know that can be different in other languages, for instance Germans refer to Bayern Munich as FC Bayern and Chelsea as FC Chelsea. I don't think the full name is necessary in English language articles and you see this reflected generally in wikipedia articles (of course some articles don't follow this because editors put things in incorrectly). I also don't think Juventus F.C. should be relinked as Juventus FC as that would be incorrect. Thanks. Rupert1904 (talk) 19:50, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

The dashes in the Celtic row indicate the club did not compete, which is not the case. GiantSnowman 21:46, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

Readers do not know what the dashes are meant to mean. They should be used sparingly. GiantSnowman 21:51, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Says who? You? The only thing that is misleading is the dashes. Does it indicate that the club didn't play in the competition or that the player did not play in that competition? It can't represent both. GiantSnowman 21:59, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
How does a reader know all that from the dashes? GiantSnowman 10:11, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
We do not log 'eligibility' in our stats - we log apps and goals only. GiantSnowman 17:48, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
No, I said it can be. GiantSnowman 19:05, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
PS I noticed you snuck pin the dashes again. You're in the wrong, and your editing is again questionable, but I have better thing to do with my life than argue with you. GiantSnowman 19:07, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

Stop interrupting! I am not finished with my work. I am the creator of that article.--Sakiv (talk) 21:53, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

I have not and will not permanently delete anything, but I have been working on the article from the beginning because there are people who update sections and leave other sections without updating and this is a fatal mistake for Wikipedia first. Do you understand now? Also, do not describe my edits as vandalism, because this is false.--Sakiv (talk) 22:07, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Yes I deleted some info but I added more than quarter of it, and I would have retrieved it as soon as I finished updating the discarded article since its inception. What's my interest in throwing 24,000 bytes??--Sakiv (talk) 22:16, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

2020–21 Sheffield Wednesday F.C. season

Your recent editing history at 2020–21 Sheffield Wednesday F.C. season shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Scottish League Cup

Hello. Before we get into an edit war, I'll explain why I first reverted your edit from earlier today. The sentence we're talking about is "Qualification for the second round", the only word of which that should be capitalised is Qualification because it is the first word of a sentence that contains no proper nouns or names. The fact that second round is the title of a section within a Wikipedia article is irrelevant becuase we're not discussing how that section should be titled. WP:TITLEFORMAT correctly identifies that when we title sections within articles, the first word is capitalised because we use sentence case for section titles. That does not make the section title a proper noun and where it appears in prose in other articles or even within the same article, it doesn't get capitalised. See 2021–22 Scottish League Cup#Format where it says: ...progress to the second round... or 2019–20 Scottish Cup where no instance of first round/second round/third round etc is capitalised in prose unless it is at the start of a sentence (round and final should be lower case in the table in the calendar section though). For those reasons, in this instance, second round should not be capitalised. I would appreciate it if you could explain your point of view as well before we go any further. Gianluca Busio/Swope Park/Sporting KC II

Your recent editing history at Gianluca Busio, particularly surrounding the name of the team that is now known as Sporting Kansas City II but used to be known as Swope Park Rangers, shows that you are engaged in a protracted edit war with User:UncleTupelo1. As I'm sure you know, given your experience on here, that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree.

I don't particularly care what name is used for the team, and I certainly don't plan to report this in any way, but I've noticed this slow-moving war happening over more than a few weeks, and it's getting tiresome. Bring it to the Talk page so that others can have a say in the obvious dispute here. Once we arrive at a consensus, or something approaching a consensus, this protract edit war can finally end.
