Disambiguation link notification for June 26

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Timeline of South Dakota, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Red Thunder (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:46, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

Harold Spitznagel

Hey Runner1928, and thanks for starting the article on Harold Spitznagel. It looks great so far! I just wanted to let you know that I shortened the lead section & broke out the rest into a "Life and career" section.

I was curious if you were planning to submit the article as a "Did you know". I think it would be a great candidate. Let me know if you would like to, and/or if you would like my assistance in doing so.

Happy editing! = paul2520 (talk) 13:17, 12 July 2018 (UTC)

@Paul2520: Thank you for the kind words and for your work on the article. I've never submitted anything for DYK so I'm not sure what quality I ought to bring the Spitznagel article to first. I appreciate any advice you can give, and I'd love to submit for Did You Know when it's reasonable to do so. Runner1928 (talk) 14:26, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
@Runner1928: Great! Looks like it passes all the eligibility criteria. It must be less than or equal to seven days old when submitted, so we still have a few days. If there are any other references you want to add, or information you know/suspect to be missing, you can add it. Otherwise, I should have time over the weekend to work on the article.
I recently got access to Newspapers.com via The Wikipedia Library, so I can search for another couple of references.
Do you want to actually make the nomination, or would you like me to nominate it on your behalf? = paul2520 (talk) 12:30, 13 July 2018 (UTC)
@Paul2520: I'll also work on the article over the weekend. Today I added sections based on the architecture WikiProject's template. The Career section especially needs to be filled out. I'm using the South Dakota History journal article as my chief reference. The architectural magazine articles are helpful but they're a COI because they're written by Spitznagel's firm's employees. So we should downplay those or even omit them, or maybe just move into "official website" status. As far as DYK nomination goes, I'd appreciate you nominating it on my behalf. I'll learn from you how that process works, so that the next time I'll do it on my own. Runner1928 (talk) 16:39, 13 July 2018 (UTC)
@Runner1928: okay, I've read through the article. I think it's really close, though a couple more references should be added. Can you add citations to the Career and Works sections? Definitely something the DYK reviewers look for are having every sentence referenced (or full paragraph, if there's a cite at the end). = paul2520 (talk) 16:07, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
@Paul2520: No problem. So many of the sentences were from sources in the Bibliography section, so I converted those into traditional inline citations. Thanks also for your latest edits, including his nickname. Feel free to submit whenever you feel it's ready, and thank you for doing that. Runner1928 (talk) 02:27, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
@Runner1928: thanks! Looks much better! Curious about the mention "1968 By William Bentzinger" – what does that mean? And what about references to the Works/Buildings section? Was that just a list, perhaps this one?
Otherwise, I think it looks good. I think we can submit the nomination today, and can always make changes in the meantime/when we hear back from the reviewer.
As for the "hook", i.e., the sentence shown on the front page if the nomination is accepted, how does this sound? "Harold Spitznagel was an architect form South Dakota who has been called 'the state's foremost 20th-century architect'" if you have suggestions for an alternate or two, that's generally recommended. See the format & content guidelines here. = paul2520 (talk) 14:04, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
@Paul2520: I'm reformatting the notable buildings section with individual line citations and a cleaner look, not to mention getting away from just using the list from TSP. I want to use the South Dakota History article as much as possible to avoid directly citing the sort-of-COI TSP pages. I'm about 40% done with that work but I think we can start the DYK nomination soon. I like the hook you proposed -- note the typo in "from". Alternates can keep the phrase "Harold Spitznagel was an architect from South Dakota who" with variations such as "designed the Mount Rushmore visitor center", "designed Art Deco civic buildings in the Upper Midwest", "built a replica of a Norwegian stavkirke in the Black Hills". Runner1928 (talk) 16:58, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
@Runner1928: I submitted the nomination. I'll watch it for any suggested edits by the reviewers, but would appreciate your help if there are any. Thanks for the work you put into this! = paul2520 (talk) 02:59, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi again!

Hey Runner1928! I realized you're located in MN, so you might be interested in an edit-a-thon that I'm helping organize next Saturday: Wikipedia:Meetup/Minneapolis/Quatrefoil/Wiki Loves Pride 2018. If you're interested and have the time, it would be great to meet you in person! = paul2520 (talk) 17:30, 20 July 2018 (UTC)

@Paul2520: thanks very much for the invitation! I'll be out of town that day but would love to hear about other opportunities in the future. Best of luck!! Runner1928 (talk) 13:58, 22 July 2018 (UTC)

DYK for Harold Spitznagel

On 15 August 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Harold Spitznagel, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that prominent South Dakota architect Harold Spitznagel designed the original Mount Rushmore visitor center with Cecil Doty as part of Mission 66, providing a setting for Alfred Hitchcock's 1959 film North by Northwest? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Harold Spitznagel. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Harold Spitznagel), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
