Expressways of the Philippines rewriting

Expressways of the Philippines has many issues, that it may need to be rewritten like the way you dond Highways in the Philippines (moved to Philippine highway network). Aside from complete lack of sources, I have one issue with a section there, named "Facts". It can be handled with the {{Trivia}} template, but a long-term solution to the section's issue is not known. I did fixing on the "Present" section by rewording "All the Expressways in the Philippines are privately owned" to "All the expressways in the Philippines are privately maintained under concession agreements, while the government retains ownership, who take over operations when the private concession ended", as the expressways are really owned by the government, and the private sector operates them through concession agreements, and "Tolls" by adding a summary of the toll systems. Please make the possible actions to fix the article. TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 05:12, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

  • Hey Sampedriño/Sampredista! I'm not sure what it is you want me to do with the article. As far as the DPWH is concerned, expressways in the Philippines are just "high standard highways" or "highways with limited access, normally with interchanges; may include facilities for levying tolls for passage in an open or closed system."1 And as per the DPWH, expressway routes don't have its own network and are also just part of the National Road Network also known commonly as Philippine highway network which is what i wrote in that article. IMO, the best solution is to just merge it with the Philippine highway network as it already talks about the expressways and their routes anyway.--RioHondo (talk) 08:16, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
I want any possible cleanup and addition of citations there. The article is unsourced, but no one flagged it. A merge is favorable, but what about some info like history, tolls and operations? They can be rewritten if possible, though it can be just a summary of the individual expressway articles.--TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 08:28, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
Since the article is unsourced and there really is no such thing as one expressway network with only one government agency managing them as a single system, I would prefer merging the definition and history in that article to its own section in the Philippine highway network being controlled-access highways, while the list of expressways, their tolls, operators and interchanges to the List of expressways in the Philippines.--RioHondo (talk) 08:53, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
Agreed. But please add citations regarding the expressway system's history. Only problem is that Philippine web sources are sparse (many may be blogs), unless one user is eager to head to a library and find a book about history of Philippine roads and highways, or you make an in-depth search on the Web. -TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 09:04, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

New info added for Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City and Alabang-Zapote Road

I improved the articles for Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City and Alabang-Zapote Road, with more information. For the Commonwealth Avenue article, I changed the intersection list to a Manual of Style-compliant format, added a route description section, changed and merged the "Hazards" section with removing the sentence which uses List25, that I looked upon as an unreliable source, and replaced it with a statement calling the avenue the "Killer Highway", with a news article from ABS-CBN News as source, and at last, adding the 60 kph speed limit implemented from 2011. I also improved the Alabang-Zapote Road article by adding info about traffic congestion there, that is one proof of notability that you have missed during the article's creation. Other editors have not been eager to add information about traffic congestion in Alabang-Zapote Road, assuming that they travelled it or a local of the areas there. I do not know about why the 60 kph speed limit implementation on Commonwealth Avenue has not been included, but it can be possible with users who created and improved it concentrated on adding info about the notable places beside the avenue, and the road's hazards, without searching about the solutions laid out to resolve them. TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 02:46, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

  • WP:GOFORIT. You can also start creating new articles to expand our collection of highways and expressways in PHL. I know other users would eventually improve and add to them. Thanks!--RioHondo (talk) 02:52, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
I made related changes in the Las Piñas article by rewriting the "Road network" section, where I merged the paragraphs about the major roads, and added info about traffic congestion in the city and the Las Piñas Friendship Route (both have been missed, as users who wrote it focused on the roads, not the overall situation of the network, like traffic and solutions to congestion, like that one). Related changes are also made to the EDSA article by adding Alabang-Zapote Road to the "See also" section, because of its similar nature that I recently added. TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 03:26, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
And I will add more info about roads, if possible. I am continuing my efforts to standardize the intersection or exit lists of Philippine road article, with the latest on Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (a few, like those in Kennon Road and Naguilian Road, have their intersection lists MOS-compliant already, but must be transitioned from the wikitable-based type to the template-based one). My creation of the {{PHLinttop}} and {{PHLint}} templates, and addition of support for Philippine numbered routes on the {{Jct}} template made these efforts faster. The articles for the new numbered routes (expressway and national road), excluding routes which has one name for its whole length (e.g. N68/Andaya Highway, N173/Timog Avenue, N411/Alabang-Zapote Road,) are possible, but have to rely primarily from DPWH info, which are primary sources, and most of the history of those roads are obscure, with a few that have known origins, usually numbered routes that use shields designed after the first U.S. Route shields (e.g. N436, which was the Batangas segment of Route 17 in the American colonial era, MacArthur Highway/Manila North Road, which was called Route 3 during the American colonial era, Manila East Road, which was Route 23 during the American colonial era, N4, which was Route 19 in the American colonial era), but with web sources about the Philippines' road network history very sparse, finding a Philippine history book that shows in-depth mention of the road network, at a public library, is needed, though some scanned American-era public domain maps of the Philippines (some available in Commons) can be used.TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 03:26, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

History section on some Philippine national roads

Some road articles that I edited have no history sections that discuss the roads past appearances. For example, Aguinaldo Highway can be noted to have descended from a portion of Route 17 in the American colonial era, but while it can be added, it must be backed with a reliable source. But, a few, like Shaw Boulevard have old names listed, but has no history. The articles of Ortigas Avenue and Governor's Drive has no history at all, other than route description or RJL. Please help with these, especially if you can consult books, not just the Web, as sources for them are sparse and not reliable (will mostly include blogs). The Task force Transport I planned at WP:TAMBAYAN can be started to hasten these efforts to cover Philippine roads and other Philippine transport-related info (public transport, railroad system, water transport, etc). TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 11:28, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

  • Sampedrista, we can only do so much with what we have, and while adding historical info would definitely help to gain GA or FA for these articles, i am more concerned on improving and establishing their notability first, to make sure they aren't deleted and to pave the way for more road articles. I currently have no access to a library and like you, I just rely on online sources. I would probably seek the assistance of the Wikimedia Philippines regarding this, and i know their president Sky Harbor is (or used to be) actively involved in this. You can probably message him and suggest to him a WikiStreets project or edit-a-thon to be funded by their Wikimedia. As for me, im just a regular contributor here hehe, and not a member of Wikimedia. :)--RioHondo (talk) 05:49, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

North Luzon West Expressway now AfD

The article of North Luzon West Expressway (NLWE) is now nominated for deletion as it was an undiscovered neologism for a group of expressways in northwestern Luzon. With no one able to look over that article, I have just discovered that it is wholly a neologism without sources to back the existence of the name. I also removed references of NLWE on the Subic–Clark–Tarlac Expressway, which I started cleaning up to follow standard road article structure, and the Tarlac–Pangasinan–La Union Expressway, in relation of the AfD. TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 05:53, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

  • You're right. There's only one instance where it was mentioned in a government website (Congress press release) which makes it dubious 1. But the project on the North Luzon East Expressway looks legit as there are several mentions of it in government sites 2. The author probably thought that if a north east expressway exists, there should also be one for northwest lol.--RioHondo (talk) 06:04, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
Tracing back to the article's history, the creation of the NLWE is the blocked user: Jeromesandilanico. If the completely fabricated article of NLWE has been discovered earlier, that name should have not surfaced to other sources, like Google Maps, that now shows the North Luzon West Expressway along with SCTEX and TPLEX. I am continuing revamping the SCTEX article, to be written in standards laid out by WP:HWY and WP:USRD, as it was written like the project's description during inception, along with current work to rearrange major junction lists and termini on the infoboxes of Philippine road articles, so that they are arranged by distance from Kilometer Zero (Rizal Park)TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 07:15, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
There is also a problem for the North Luzon East Expressway article, and the same problem on the Davao City Expressway. They should be rewritten to have the project description in one section, but paraphrased, though the DPWH PPP page, where their content may be taken from, is in the public domain, unless indicated.TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 07:20, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
It's funny cos it's the same user i actually sent to SPI long time ago that blocked him indefinitely, for disruptive editing and OR on rail articles i think. Thanks for spotting this!--RioHondo (talk) 07:42, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
I made other edits to remove NLWE from the List of expressways in the Philippines and the {{Philippine Expressways}}. How about pinging other users in the Tambayan community?TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 09:05, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
Sampedrista, one thing you need to know about Wikipedia, the person who thought of doing an improvement in any article should not expect anyone else to do it but him. It will just fall on deaf ears. That's what i learned in my 4-5 years editing here. :)-RioHondo (talk) 09:25, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
I did all to remove links of that NLWE, and as I listed that for deletion, what I am asking is consensus by the Tambayan Philippines. I do not know yet what would be the outcome of the deletion, if other editors, especially at the Tambayan community, will share their opinions. As I said, NLWE is an undiscovered neologism for a group of named expressways, created by the blocked user, Jeromesandilanico.TagaSanPedroAko (talk)
Normally, 1-2 votes agreeing to the deletion request is enough, or even just 1 vote if the violation is clear on the part of the admin. Im sure editors following the article or the AfD noticeboard will respond eventually.--RioHondo (talk) 09:40, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
AfD results depend on the community consensus, not on votes. While 2 '"Delete" votes are normal, further consensus is still needed. That is the reason why I am asking for other editors in the Tambayan Philippines community: to gain consensus. The NLWE nomination can be relisted if possible.TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 09:56, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
Consensus is made through votes, at least thats how i understand how the afd process or any discussion works. Relax, keep calm and be WP:BOLD. I dont stand for the community, but im one of few who still actively communicate here. So few in fact that Tambayan has turned into a ghost town, where requests would most likely be ignored as of late. :)--RioHondo (talk) 10:06, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

Two images for each of the road networks in "List of roads in Met. Mla."

Hi RioHondo! I'm planning to add one more picture for each of the radial/circumferential roads in List of roads in Metro Manila. However, I would not exceed two, so as not to become an "eyesore" like User:Kevinjonpalma11 wrote on the edit summary for his edit back in July 2012. Is this ok for you? Thanks! Proposed deletion of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Philippines

The article Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Philippines has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

copyrights violation, sources are unreliable, no direct links

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. – Fayenatic London 13:56, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

Edits on Cebu governors

Hi RioHondo thank you for the edits you've done on the articles. I'm learning a lot, particularly Wikipedia:MOSPHIL.Verbosmithie (talk) 01:37, 12 May 2019 (UTC)

  • @Verbosmithie Anytime! Now we have to work on your categorization of those BLPs as I am seeing a lot of redundancies there. See WP:OVERCATEGORIZATION For example: one article has all these categories: Category:People from Cebu, Category:Politicians from Cebu, Category:Writers from Cebu Category:Cebuano people, and Category:Visayan people, Category:Visayan writers. You can check each category to see if they are linked to the other categories, and they usually are, so we can avoid the redundant category clutter. Politicians and writers are linked to the People by province category already so you don't have to include that anymore. Visayan and Cebuano people are also already linked to each other, the best way forward is to use their precise categories as People from Cebu, Cebuano people and Visayan people basically refer to the same thing.--RioHondo (talk) 07:42, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
    • @RioHondo copy this, the pages are for deceased writers and politicians from Cebu. On another note, as I am creating articles for pre-war Cebuano figures (and I'm about to complete past Cebu governors), can I join Wikipedia:Tambayan Philippines. I'd appreciate it if I can learn more from editors from Cebu and those who have been around longer than I have.Verbosmithie (talk) 07:48, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
Of course, hop in! WT:TAMBAY is the only community noticeboard we have, and you can ask questions regarding Philippine related articles of all sorts in there. Whenever you are unsure of something, like notability guidelines or help with putting up articles or monitoring them from persistent vandal attacks, you know where to go. It's good that we get more Cebuano editors like you here, and i look forward to seeing more of your work for Cebu like BLPs and historical landmarks, which are sorely lacking in that part of the country. Cheers!--RioHondo (talk) 15:58, 12 May 2019 (UTC)

List of conflicts in the Philippines

Hi. This morning I happened to stumble across a cite reading {{sfn|Ibidem|p=195}} in the List of conflicts in the Philippines article. This produced a circular link. I had just fixed one similar circular link in that article and might fix this one, but I'm commenting here re the Ibid. Checking, I see that this is a survivor from several Ibids in this earliest version of the article, which looks to have been created by you. I stopped working on that article when I encountered this to leave this message for you. Could you take a look at this, please? Thanks & Cheers, Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 12:17, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

  • Hi. Please continue working and do what you have to do with the article. None of it was my own research as I only started that article to take out contents which didn't belong to the other, basically wars added by this classical era fan with revisionist tendency when the nation called PH still didnt exist. 2019 US Banknote Contest

  US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

Honest Question

Hello. May I ask a few questions? I just wondered how do you create these new articles with such detail? Im new in this site and I wanted to learn your techniques and ways. Do you have any references to create these articles. Im interested. --Kurigo (talk) 14:08, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi! Thank you for the feedback. There is not one advise I can give to you except to start writing. Once you get a hang of encyclopedic writing and editing, you will also get to learn these techniques (not sure you can call it that really) and become a more informed writer. The references i use are all cited in the articles I make (this is a must), they are all online if you know where to look. The key is experience and reading articles daily, i started out writing mostly stub articles, some of which have already been deleted. But every writer has got to start somewhere. Reading as many googled material as you can on a certain topic before writing and submitting them is all i do. Anyways, welcome to Wikipedia!--RioHondo (talk)

Another Araneta Avenue photo if ever

Hello RioHondo. I know that you have a photo of this avenue (File:Gregorio Araneta Avenue.jpg) prior to the construction of the Skyway Stage 3, but I'm just asking if you had other photos of the same avenue (either same or different segments) during that same time (before the start of Stage 3 construction), and if ever, can you upload it? I see very few images (mabibilang lang po sa isang kamay, literal) of this avenue on Wiki (whether enwiki or Commons) prior to mid-2010s (when the Skyway Stage 3 began construction). I can see some on Flickr but unfortunately, they cannot be uploaded via Flickr2Commons because of incompatible licensing. Just a question only, salamat po :-) JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 14:18, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

Hey wilz, unfortunately thats all i have from my old iphone i think. I normally didnt get to take too many pics of roads back then as i was driving as i was taking most of those shots. Didnt want to get into any accident or pulled over by cops lol. Maybe just 1 or 2 of each road i wrote an article for which i uploaded straight away. I havent done taking photos while driving since the Anti-Distracted Driving Act (Philippines) was passed though :)--RioHondo (talk) 18:28, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Oh it's ok, RioHondo. Safety is important. I was just asking hehe. BTW, I love the cloudy road sceneries, from your File:Padre Burgos Avenue.jpg to my File:NLEX Smart Connect Interchange - toward NLEX Main from Segment 8.1jwilz.jpg. Anyway, that G. Araneta Avenue image of yours is a special one (for me) as it is the only existing high or good-resolution image here on Wikimedia that shows it before the start of Stage 3 construction. I actually had original resolution image (1600px, thru Samsung Galaxy Star) of this (circa Sept. 2015), but my memory card got glitched(?) and I can no longer access many road pics of mine. I just uploaded one copy from my FB account (and yes, with OTRS permission as a previously-published image, and it is at File:G. Araneta Avenue 20150815jwilz.jpg). Thanks for the response and keep safe amid the ongoing pandemic. :-) JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 18:58, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Thanks and likewise. There's still plenty of roads that dont have articles though and those N and E route articles would eventually need to be created individually, like i did all C and R routes, so it is never too late to take photos and i look forward to seeing more of your work on this subject and other PH articles, transport or otherwise. Safe!--RioHondo (talk) 07:40, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
