Hi There

Hello Regent,

If you remember, our paths had crossed during the issue of Pushpak Express. Subsequently we had a discussion on the topic at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Trains#Timetables - existence and convention.

The user Abhishek191288 who was so enthusiastic in undoing what i had done in the article refused to participate in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Trains#Timetables - existence and convention where the issue of routing, time tables was discussed in extensive detail.

The article was subsequently modified accordingly but it seems Abhishek191288 is back at it again. I fail to understand why he failed to utter a single word during the discussion & is now running around quoting pages to read as if an answer will drop out of the sky rather than discussing things out.

I would appreciate any suggestions that you may have including temporary page protection. Superfast1111 (talk) 15:54, 29 March 2014 (UTC)

Modi

Hey, I've been looking through the Modi talk, and I find that nobody has responded to your suggestion of removing the "fasts" and "pr" sections. Do you think I should go ahead and remove them per BRD, pr should I actually open an RfC? Cheers, Vanamonde93 (talk) 19:14, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

I'd say get rid of them but leave a note on the talk page. We have to be forward looking with that article! --regentspark (comment) 23:24, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
I'll do that. Yes indeed we do; there's other stuff that needs pruning as well, it just seemed as though this was the obvious place to start, as you pointed out. Vanamonde93 (talk) 23:29, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

In you argument in the archived talk pages at the article Mahatma Gandhi, you said:

I'm sure you must know by now that "Duke" in this case is a nickname and not an honorific.

Durga Vahini

RP, can you (and/or some of your page watchers) watchlist the Durga Vahini article? Looked it up a few days back after reading a review of the The World Before Her documentary, and found that the page consisted mainly of cut-n-paste text from the VHP website and ubiquitous-on-Wikipedia "Controversy" section. Did some rudimentary clean-up to address the former issue, but a fellow-editor (blocked user User:Obelixobelix, now socking as User:117.221.177.206) doesn't seem to find my edits (or me) to his liking. :-)

Issues with the previous version of the page explained here.

Btw, real glad to see that you are still around! Hope you are enjoying yourself here and offline. Cheers. Abecedare (talk) 04:26, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Merger proposal

Thank you for your contributions.

As you are admin, you can still edit that page. I think you should also propose a merge for "Human rights abuses in Jammu and Kashmir", this diff[1] explicts that Jyoti.mickey had formerly tried. I won't have any issue. So maybe a number of editors have already agreed with that. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 15:55, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

Nothing special about being an admin for proposing mergers. I'll support one but won't propose it myself. --regentspark (comment) 16:18, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

The Wikipedia Library: New Account Coordinators Needed

Hi Books & Bytes recipients: The Wikipedia Library has been expanding rapidly and we need some help! We currently have 10 signups for free account access open and several more in the works... In order to help with those signups, distribute access codes, and manage accounts we'll need 2-3 more Account Coordinators.

It takes about an hour to get up and running and then only takes a couple hours per week, flexible depending upon your schedule and routine. If you're interested in helping out, please drop a note in the next week at my talk page or shoot me an email at: jorlowitz gmail.com. Help With a Move

Greetings friend. I was wondering if you could help me with a move that I do not have the permission to carry out; moving "Babri Mosque" to "Babri Masjid."

I've long been uneasy about the title "Babri Mosque," because in popular literature it is never referred to that way. I got around to investigating it, and found that multiple library search engines that I have access to, all of which include results from major newspapers, pulled up more hits for "Babri Masjid" than for "Babri Mosque." World Cat does the same. Google scholar finds more for the latter, but an unfiltered google search gets more for "masjid." On the balance, I think COMMONNAME indicates "Masjid" is what it should be.

I attempted to move the page, but found I do not have the permission, presumably because "Babri Masjid" was once a page that was turned into a redirect; from the page history, I believe that shift was not linked to a move discussion. Cheers, Vanamonde93 (talk) 14:56, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

Another issue

Hello there,

I see you managed to get the Languages of Pakistan page protected which will now probably prevent IP hoppers doing senseless edits and reverts on the page :) Good job. There's another thing I want to bring up though and that's on the Afghan diaspora page. User Mar4d managed to get the page semi-protected there due to the same problem with IP-hoppers (there were more of them there then on the languages of Pakistan page). However, now that the semi-protected status has expired , the very same IP has returned and is pushing the very same agenda and calling his reverts based on correcting "vandalism" [[2]].

It's the same guy doing the same thing, so you might wanna take actions here. I don't want to revert it back as I think people have been assuming good faith for more than enough with him (IP: 103.10.197.58) and I don't wanna get into an edit war with him.

In general the correct version is the one by Mar4d on the pages history tab.

Nair

Sitush self-reverted purely because he had accidentally strayed into 3RR territory, but he had originally intended to remove that content because it was supported by a source that does not satisfy WP:RS. NQ then reinstated Sitush's removal of the content, apparently agreeing with Sitush's rationale, so taking responsibility for the final removal. — Alan / Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 10:54, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject Delhi

Greetings!

I usually assess many articles every day, I often add new wikiprojects to the old articles. But this time, I've found another wikiproject that remains almost empty and it is Wikipedia:WikiProject Delhi. Because the list is huge and I wouldn't be adding manually, I will need consensus, so I've opened discussion, please have your view.

I've read the list, you seem to be one of the only active member. Thought of notifying you. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 10:47, 10 July 2014 (UTC)

Some Advice?

Greetings friend. You may have noticed that I recently nominated the Bharatiya Janata Party page at GAN. I thought that it might help my case if I shifted all the refs to a consistent alphabetical sources and numbered references system. I began doing so, realised it is a painful process, and decided to ask if it would really be an improvement, or should I just not bother? I don't have enough experiences with GAs to judge for myself. Thanks, Vanamonde93 (talk) 13:26, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

I don't know. AFAIK, GAs are not strict like FAs but I've never bothered with either. Don't really have the patience for nitty gritty stuff. Perhaps Spiff would have a better idea. --regentspark (comment) 01:55, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
It's generally not required at GA, but I think it's an improvement. Eitherways, I think if you say Guha p136, you've got to link Guha to the book (which I think isn't done now). cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 05:01, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks people, much appreciated. SpacemanSpiff, one further question; what d'you mean link Guha p. 136 to the book? Guha is listed in the "sources," and the p. 136 in the "references." How do I link the two? Cheers, Vanamonde93 (talk) 05:12, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
{{Harvnb}} does the job, though if I'm not mistaken people currently prefer {{sfn}}, and there could be others -- I've been inactive for quite a while. I've used harvnb extensively on Flag of India, you can check out how the Virmani and Roy references are handled there. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 05:53, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
Yes, {{sfn}} or {{sfnp}}, together with {{citation}} in the bibliography. Vanamonde, you'll probably also need to watch out for WP:CITEVAR and get consensus for any major change of cite style. If you need an example of sfn/sfnp etc in action then I'll find you one when I get back from work tonight. - Sitush (talk) 07:10, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks all. I'll take a look at these options; I knew of their existence, but not their function. Sitush, this began not so much as an attempt to change the style as to unify it; but if I attempt to migrate to anything else, I'll be posting on the talk for sure. Thanks again. Vanamonde93 (talk) 12:41, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
@Vanamonde93: For harv and snf, look at any of my recent articles. I use that system as it is by far a lot tidier and makes editing easier. Darkness Shines (talk) 14:11, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, friend. Will do. Vanamonde93 (talk) 15:36, 10 July 2014 (UTC)

A year and a half after you opposed my RfA

I am inviting you to leave me some feedback, 18 months after you opposed my RfA. Do you still believe I am not fit to be an admin? Do you believe I have been able to improve past the concerns you have brought up? Do not be afraid of being too harsh, I am specifically welcoming criticism as I believe it is the best way to improve and I am always looking to learn from my mistakes. I am particularly looking for feedback as to whether you have objections to myself lifting the self-imposed 1RR restriction I had agreed to towards the end of my RfA. If you don't have time to comment, don't fret it either, this is nothing I'll lose sleep over. :) ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  19:48, 20 July 2014 (UTC)

Sitush?

Hey, RegentsPark. I noticed you revdeled some stuff on Sitush's page, but you didn't actually remove it from the page, so it was all still plainly viewable. I've reverted it and revdeled the additional edits to be on the safe side, but is that what you meant? I'm not really sure what the revdel accomplished otherwise... Writ Keeper  00:23, 11 September 2014 (UTC)

I've no idea what has been going on. I've had the same message, more or less, several times and various people have removed it. I tried to GTranslate it but got nowhere - seemed to think it was Maori and when I tried Hindi, Bengali etc there were no valid translations. It wouldn't surprise me if the section headings were intended to be hurtful etc but the message body has always been a nonsensical "please help" etc from a single-use IP. Weird. - Sitush (talk) 00:33, 11 September 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, I tried running it through Google Translate, too, and had an equal lack of success with it. I was basically taking RP's word on it that it needed a revdel (which I'm happy to do), but revdel is a fickle beast at the best of times. Writ Keeper  00:35, 11 September 2014 (UTC)
RP should revdel User talk:Jimbo Wales. Once an hour should do the trick. At least then some people would get back to building the encyclopaedia ;) - Sitush (talk) 00:38, 11 September 2014 (UTC)

2. A link of a news Paper (29th Sep 2014) The Times Of India show his Date of Birth as 28th.

Argaon, Adgaon bk and the Battle of Argaon

I am working on links in an aricle called Colin Campbell (colonial governor) and have come up against contradictory info in Wikipedia.

In the article Akot there is a line that says

"Nov 28, 1803 - The Battle of Argaon, ( Adgaon bk near Akot ), took place on November 28, 1803, between the British under the command of Governor Arthur Wellesley and the forces of Maratha under Bhonsle of Nagpur during Second Anglo-Maratha War."

The article Adgaon was moved to Argaon and is now a redirect.

I have just edited the article Battle of Argaon added a source Adgaon which states

"Adgaon is a village in Akot tahsil situated nine miles to the west of Akot the tahsil headquarters. ... The great battle of Adgaon was fought on 29th November 1803 near Shirsoli, three miles south of Adgaon"

This source http://www.ovguide.com/argaon-9202a8c04000641f800000000037d29a which is a copy of an old Wikipedia article state :"Adgaon, known as Argaon during the period of the British Raj, is a village located in the Telhara tehsil near Akot in the Akola district of Maharashtra, India. Situated 32 miles north of Akola, the village was the site of the Battle of Argaon between British troops and the Marathas during the Second Anglo-Maratha War." states "

It seems to me because of the redirect Adgaon, Argaon should that have a hatnote to Adgaon bk. Is Argaon the location of the battle or Adgaon bk, someone needs to check the Battle of Argaon article and make sure it points to the correct location and if the comment on the Akot article is wrong fix that. Please could you take a look and fix whatever needs fixing? -- PBS (talk) 16:58, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.  SAMI  talk 09:04, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

Speedy declined. Kashmir has always looked like a really beautiful place to me. It's a shame about the politics. - Sitush (talk) 09:11, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
No body would be searching / following the redirect with name that long and a slash, but I guess RD3 doesn't apply to page moves. RFD is the right way. --lTopGunl (talk) 09:14, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
I declined the speedy as out-of-process: the redirect itself has already been through and survived XfD, so it needs a more consensus-based route to deleting or re-targetting. DMacks (talk) 09:18, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

Looks like that sorted itself out. I think I left the redirect when I moved the article and am agnostic about it. Though TopGun's comment seems on target to me. --regentspark (comment) 21:08, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

WP:ARBIPA

Since you've blocked me before and also edited with me at times, you might be able to drop your input regarding this issue in both capacities and if right out topic banning me from WP:ARBIPA is the right thing to do given that it is the only area with my majority edits and already has not so many knowledgeable editors where as I still consulted other editors and added sources on consensus among them and one editor who reverted me went on to get me removed from the topic area with the blame of misrepresentation. Another accusation that admins there find valid is that I mentioned the editor was canvassing editors by nationality... you know unlike other admins how that turns out in this topic area... but since I mentioned it in my statement, they find it ok to kill the messenger by labelling my statement as WP:BATTLE that I dare mention the fact an editor has chosen another editor in quid pro quo manner to ask for help knowing their nationality. Hopefully you're editing occasionally in your wikibreak. --lTopGunl (talk) 12:30, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi TG. Sorry, I was away on a family emergency (that is still continuing). Looks like the request is closed anyway (but I'll take a longer look when I get back in January). --regentspark (comment) 14:05, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
Sure, I am thinking of appealing it when I have more time to volunteer (maybe end of Dec, or in Jan). Thanks. --lTopGunl (talk) 16:52, 21 December 2014 (UTC)

Question

Hello, RegentsPark. As you're the one who protected List of Indian monarchs until 22 January 2015 (after the article was subjected to edit warring / content dispute), can I ask you to do something about Lists of rulers of India? As you can see, the editor who conducted edit warring at List of Indian monarchs started, as of today, to add the same material at Lists of rulers of India. I hope that you can help to protect that article as well. Cheers! --Sundostund (talk) 17:30, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

Protected that article as well. Hopefully Yash will engage on the talk page and you all can figure out which additions/subtractions from the lists make sense and which don't. --regentspark (comment) 17:41, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your help, RegentsPark. As for Yash, I truly doubt that he'll engage on the talk page, having in mind his behavior up to now and his obvious lacking of good knowledge of English, but we'll see... Anyway, I'll let you know if problems on List of Indian monarchs and Lists of rulers of India start all over again, after the protection expires on 22 January. --Sundostund (talk) 17:49, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
And, one more thing: If you look at Lists of rulers of India#Heads of India, you'll see that text "Prajit Sengupta" exist on two places in that section. That text have no meaning whatsoever, so can you please remove it? --Sundostund (talk) 18:15, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
Done. If Yash doesn't engage on the talk page and continues to edit the articles (without consensus) after protection ends, he's going to get indef blocked pretty soon. --regentspark (comment) 18:28, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Any reason Lists of rulers of India is not a simple redirect to List of rulers of India? Seems to be common-sensical and also consistent with the May 2014 AFD discussion. Abecedare (talk) 19:18, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

No idea. Sundostund? Personally, I don't see much point in lists that go from here to the moon. Unsearchably long lists are not useful. --regentspark (comment) 19:23, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
Have left a note on the article talk-page; assuming there are no objections, you can create the redirect the page in a couple of days. That way the "problem" is at least isolated. On your latter point: tend to agree, but that ship has sailed a long time ago. Abecedare (talk) 19:28, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

RegentsPark, thank you for removing that "Prajit Sengupta" nonsense. Abecedare, I have no problem to agree to turn Lists of rulers of India into a redirect to List of rulers of India, that seems logical to me. After all, it would be consistent with the May 2014 AFD discussion, as you pointed out. --Sundostund (talk) 13:30, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

And, guys, I must ask you what you think about Yash's newest "creation" - Wikipedia:List of great indian dynasty. I'm not sure is this in accordance with rules of Wikipedia or not, but it doesn't look good to me. --Sundostund (talk) 14:29, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
RegentsPark, Yash created another list of Indian monarchs - List of Indian Kings and Emperors... Please check it out, and do what you consider appropriate. --Sundostund (talk) 13:48, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
blocked and deleted. --regentspark (comment) 15:14, 11 January 2015

(UTC) Hello, why there is no Sikh Empire in the Lists of rulers of India ?

Hi. Drop a note on the talk page of that article asking for it to be added. But, note that the article will likely be replaced by a redirect anyway. --regentspark (comment) 14:04, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

Subhas Chandra Bose

I reverted these changes because we have another editor not leaving summaries and making what are, without them, apparently random changes. And even then how would I know that these things are the same? Let everyone do this who wants to and we end up with a pile of cobblers for an encyclopedia. Britmax (talk) 19:29, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

No worries. You're right of course but these particular edits are pretty innocuous. The Burmese who fought against the British under Aung San were the Burmese Independence Army and 'independence' is a better word than national when referring to Bose's call for sacrifice.--regentspark (comment) 19:59, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

Punjab's date of formation

I understand your need to undo my edit but I would like to justify my edit. I don't think that dividing a state means that formation date for the residual state restarts. The capital of Punjab (the one from 1947-1966) was Chandigarh. With the creation of Haryana, Punjab's capital was still at Chandigarh while Haryana's capital also became Chandigarh.

This is similar to how Telangana was formed from Andhra Pradesh, the capital of both states is currently the same but the capital did not become a union territory as Andhra Pradesh is required to find a new one and leave Hyderabad. Andhra Pradesh's date of formation is still the same. (It is 1 November 1956.) The Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act,2014 split it up.

When Jharkhand was formed out of Bihar, I don't think it changed Bihar's date of formation.

East Punjab was created at the formation of India on 15 August 1947 and it was renamed to Punjab on 26 January 1950 with India's constitution. PEPSU merged into Punjab with the States Reorganization Act, 1956. Punjab was reorganized on 1 November 1966 with the creation of the state of Haryana and the union territory of Chandigarh. Some former lands of PEPSU was ceded to Himachal Pradesh (a union territory at the time) and it became a state on 25 January 1971. (This was done with the Punjab Reorganization Act, 1966)

So I believe that Punjab in its current form was created on 15 August 1947. It was merely reorganized like a couple of other Indian states. Zaketo (talk) 01:33, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Isn't that just a naming thing? For example, if Punjab had been split into X and Y rather than Punjab and Haryana then would there be a primary state and a secondary state? Either way, I'm agnostic on this so go ahead and revert my edit and let's see if we get more input. --regentspark (comment) 01:59, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

List of Shudra Hindu saints

List of Sudr Hindu saints was created by the sock as POVFORK of List of Shudra Hindu saints. Please undelete the parent and delete the Sudr article. List of Harijana Hindu saints is a FORK of Dalit saints of Hinduism. --Redtigerxyz Talk 18:45, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

Looks like both articles were created by socks of the same banned editor. User:Streetsignpole - a sock of Buddhakahinka created list of shudra hindu saints and another sock created List of Sudr Hindu saints. Shouldn't we just delete them both? @Bladesmulti and Abecedare:--regentspark (comment) 19:09, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
Yes you should not undelete, and whoever wants to contribute on a List of Shudra Hindu saints, they should create their own. Redtigerxyz can still ask for the copy of deleted page. Bladesmulti (talk) 00:25, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
The problem with the List of Shudra Hindu saints article goes beyond issues of forking and into the realm of verifiability. As with the Dalit saints of Hinduism one, almost all of the sources are obscure. Where I was able to check things, I generally found that, if the thing had any mention at all in the source, it was usually synthesis to state that the person was shudra. What was happening was that a community name was mentioned in the source and then there was an unsupported supposition by the contributor that the community was of shudra standing at the time that the person lived. Many simply weren't even verifiable in the cited sources anyway but, obviously, I could only check a few because of the obscurity issue.
Personally, I'd wipe the lot and (since someone is bound to object if this trivia were taken to AfD), start the lists again even if they initially only have a single entry. This time round, we should insist on quotations where sources are off-line and on creation of articles for the individuals before they are added to the list. Let's at least make WP:NLIST, WP:RS and WP:V work properly and stop this pov-pushing nonsense in its tracks wherever we can. - Sitush (talk) 00:48, 21 January 2015 (UTC)

India GHI

If the information is completely relevant to the topic why it is not required. You deleted it because it did not have citation which I am providing you here, kindly resolve.

India in Global Hunger Index Report 2014 ranks it at 55. [1] hey_pal 18:19, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

--hey_pal 18:21, 23 January 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Friend.hey (talkcontribs)

Because it carries no meaning for the reader. Merely stating that India ranks at 55 on the GHI index is meaningless. You would need to find reliable secondary sources that frame this rank meaningfully before it can be added to the article. --regentspark (comment) 18:37, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

I did it for more facts as per you said, please have a look. Kindly let me know if it still needs any more musing.--hey_pal 10:14, 25 January 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Friend.hey (talkcontribs)

India's latest and precise well established facts deleted

Hi, I added some well established facts about India which I believe were put quintessentially at their niche paragraph. All the facts were from publicly available government website and report.

Some of them were mere 'well established and standardized just updates' over the superannuated data. However you deleted the data, that I think, without going into the details making a case of "DRV" under points (1), (3) and (5) and related case.

Along with that, the deletion might have been done without going into detailed report. The writing was done after huge analysis and reading of big reports and external articles as I do understand the sincerity of writing on a featured article. The edits are also completely meaningful and positive facts to fill the gaps and making the article, ipso facto, absolutely more comprehensive. Kindly review your deletion as it makes my huge study and applicability of mind to contemplate huge articles and manpower to contribute in order to making wiki better into waste. Is it violating the wiki norms of writing to refer publicly available reports as the reference of proof for the things published with precise facts? Kindly provide me the details if it does. --hey_pal 18:56, 25 January 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Friend.hey (talkcontribs)

--hey_pal 20:08, 25 January 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Friend.hey (talkcontribs) Hi Friend.hey. As I say in my reply in the previous section and in the edit summary, you should be using secondary sources to report data. For example, the meaning of India's rank being 55 on the GHI, or having moved up to 55, has to be interpreted by reliable secondary sources, preferably academic ones. Perhaps you could suggest the change on the talk page and see what sort of consensus emerges? Clearly state the text you want changed/added so that others can react to it. Best wishes. --regentspark (comment) 21:07, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
