I see you blocked this user and was wondering if you can point me to the master. This is going to be one of several larger sock farms related to film pages and would like to recommend G5 for their creations but need to be able to point to a master prior to the creation of the pages. CNMall41 (talk) 20:22, 4 January 2024 (UTC)

I have no idea who the master is, or I would have identified one in the block message. They were part of a group of UPE spammers (see my block log - those marked "UPE spammers" were from the same group). The studio spammers are prolific and, with the manpower and IP ranges available to them, our meager tools can't even put a dent in their efforts. Joy.-- Ponyobons mots 20:30, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the log. And, I empathize about the manpower and tools. The film farms are bludgeoning to say the least. I am just hoping to frustrate their paid work while not disrupting Wikipedia. --CNMall41 (talk) 21:00, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
I try to zap what I can via G5 when I block the socks, but in cases such as this, blocking is all I can offer unless a master is eventually identified. -- Ponyobons mots 21:29, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

New possible sock in a drawer you CU-blocked

Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Salarbil is from September 2022, so I doubt there is current data, but do you have any notes from when you worked on them? This new account:

just recreated:

with identical content to what:

had written. I know you can't tell me "does the account match the IP" but given the history of UPE on this article, maybe you can act on whether this new account and/or IP match any old CU info yo have. DMacks (talk) 16:16, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

@DMacks: I've blocked and tagged as a suspected sock. Weather it's the same individual or UPE WP:MEAT is neither here nor there as far as socking goes.-- Ponyobons mots 21:53, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

Caleb Deschanel

Hello Ponyo, A long time since we last spoke, trust you are well, as for me still having loads of tests and scans.

Could I please draw your attention to tthe Brazillian IP(s) who is again deleting masses on the [[Caleb Deschanel]] page. They appear to only want to show his Director of Photographty career, whilst ignoring his career as film director. They do not take any notice of their Talk pages, or the many deletions to their changes. Do you think a period of page protection would help? With best regards, David David J Johnson (talk) 17:36, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

Possible sockpuppet

Hi Ponyo! As the blocking admin of both Coolbro247 (talk · contribs) and Vejarrichard9 (talk · contribs), it seems they're back as Claudia_Coolnes (talk · contribs), making similar disruptive edits. Hope you can do something about it. Thanks! Drovethrughosts (talk) 12:47, 9 January 2024 (UTC)

Likely sock

As block admin of sock Qumandan, one of the many from sock farm of Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Kamal Afghan01, very likely these accounts created after the previous socks were blocked are same person Leviathan12 and Monabhaii and please check for any sleepers as KamalAfghan01 has a history of creating many sock accounts at same time. Dazzem (talk) 14:21, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

@Dazzem: please note the suspected socks and the corresponding evidence at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Kamal Afghan01 for Clerk review.-- Ponyobons mots 20:31, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
Ponyo, by the way this account is a sockpuppet of HaughtonBrit. If you take a look at the last 2 submissions on the KamalAfghan SPI archive, they're all HaughtonBrit socks. HaughtonBrit has been abusing FedEx listed proxies for years now-[1] and [2].
Look at the last 2 IPs-[3] and [4] and their geolocation.
His modus operandi is primarily to aggrandize Sikh military history, often at the expense of Afghans who have fought numerous battles with one another as well as other Indian groups. He has been evading his block since April last year through a combination of sock accounts, IPs that geolocate to Pittsburgh or Pennsylvania, and proxies-some of which have a listed ISP of FedEx, to bully and harass user and steamroll a religious nationalist agenda. KamalAfghan is on a list of his users that he regularly targets- see [5] and you can see this IP was blocked for 6 months for block evasion + [6] + [7].
He has also been posting on your talk page for a while now regarding KamalAfghan-[8] & [9] and [10] and coressponding 2601:547 block log for block evasion. Southasianhistorian8 (talk) 11:04, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
This is all awaiting SPI clerk review at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/HaughtonBrit. Note that you didn't sign your evidence in the last report on that page, Suthasianhistorian8.-- Ponyobons mots 18:38, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
Ponyo, I strongly suspect that this user is using sly tricks to try to decieve admins into expediting the SPI on KamalAfghan. Firstly, the IP who filed the SPI is a 2601:547 range, the same ranges that have been hounding me since April 2023 and have been blocked numerous times for block evasion-[11].
Now, there is a proxy claiming to be Khan Dildar, making an obvious attempt to try to get admins to check the accounts and get them blocked for sock/meatpuppetry. HaughtonBrit, along with logged out editing, has been abusing proxies for years now, and directly confronting me with them on numerous pages recently. It almost certainly seems to be HaughtonBrit's usual tactics.
It's sad that such deception and harassment is being allowed unabated without any consequences. Southasianhistorian8 (talk) 07:06, 22 January 2024 (UTC)

They also are using an IP "2.97.105.248" to block evade. See User talk:Rolo891. Trailblazer101 (talk) 23:40, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

Their immaturity makes them exceedingly obvious as a sock (which was what caused me to suspect the connection between Spj and Rolo in the first place). If they evade the block start an SPI and ping me. Note that these are checkuser blocks, so I cannot confirm connections between accounts and IPs.-- Ponyobons mots 23:56, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
Roger that. Thanks for the tip! Trailblazer101 (talk) 23:58, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

Verdis

Hello Ponyo, I was hoping that you may lift the ban on the article "Verdis". I was hoping to create an article on the developing micronation, but when I attempted to do so it said you restricted it. I think creating an article for the Free Republic of Verdis would be a good thing for wikipedia. It has been gaining more and more attention and has even been recognized by at least one UN member. There are also a large number of people who have already become citizens and more and more support is coming in to help its development. I also think it would be important to discuss Croatia's questionable actions to those who are in Verdis. I hope you consider my request. Thank you. Have a nice day. Chaconut (talk) 18:18, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) @Chaconut: You should be able to use WP:AFC to create Draft:Verdis and submit it for a review. Then someone could move it into place over the protection. Please read WP:BACKWARD and WP:42 to gain a full understanding of what's required. - UtherSRG (talk) 18:25, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
(edit conflict) The consensus of the community was to not have an article on the subject, only a redirect to Croatia–Serbia border dispute. You might want to put something together at Draft:Verdis or expand on the information at Croatia–Serbia border dispute#Micronational claims.-- Ponyobons mots 18:26, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
How would I be able to put something together at Draft:Verdis if it is protected? I can't do anything with it since I am not an admin. Would I be able to create one in a sandbox and submit it somewhere to be reviewed and/or be able to nominate it in Articles for Creation to try and overturn the previous ruling? Chaconut (talk) 18:32, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't realize that the draft still had protection on it. I've undone that now.-- Ponyobons mots 18:37, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
Had Ponyo not replied, yes, you could have created a draft in your sandbox. - UtherSRG (talk) 18:57, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi Ponyo. I know you took action against Echo1Charlie recently for breaking the 3RR rule, however they are back edit warring on the same article again, despite not having consensus for the said edit and the dissenting arguments presented by two other users. Unfortunately, they seem to have the impression they are above the rules applied for everyone else, and the block you initially placed did not have the intended effect. About the page: Dilip Shanghvi.

A particular user has been deleting content without any proofs. When confronted him with the proper sources, he does not listen and continues to do the same. I have warned and reported him on his user page and the notice board, but he changes his IP address and vanadalizes again and again. Even the auto accept has tired me, because i have to keep a watch on the page and always undo the edits made by him. Help KRFAAR (talk) 21:03, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

Rock Musicals

Re deletion of content relating to the musical Anything and Everything: How can we achieve consensus for this, as you suggest? What is it about the references provided that are insufficient to support inclusion of this musical? Wikipedia standards do not require a reference from an ISBN publication etc. Dickie323 (talk) 02:21, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

@Dickie323: The methods for achieving consensus were linked in my edit summary, and I've also included it here, for reference. Wikipedia standards require sources for challenged content to be reliable, and if your content or its sourcing is disputed, as it was by Ssilvers in this case, then consensus determines whether the content is included. Also, per WP:ONUS, the onus is on the individual wishing to add or restore disputed content to achieve consensus. Bottom line, the content you wish to add could very well eventually be added to the article, you just need to have others agree.-- Ponyobons mots 18:19, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

Way to...

You're totally misunderstanding. GH has been called out for deleting huge amounts of material. I was the one who brought it to the site's attention. Summerdays1 (talk) 23:04, 8 February 2024 (UTC)

I am not misunderstanding. I see a new (?) editor displaying a WP:BATTLEGROUND attitude on various pages, dipping into personal attack territory repeatedly. It needs to stop.-- Ponyobons mots 23:06, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
Ponyo, if you are referencing an editor who doesn't think that a country of origin matters or place of manufacturing, they won't listen to facts. They talk about article size and splitting, not understanding how it works. Article talk pages get hardly any attention Rather than commending me for finding an editor that is damaging the site(and still getting away with it) you want to say I am doing something. I might ask you if a small group of editors went around Wikipedia making articles much smaller because people had questioned the size of the articles, then what? So GH should just get a slap on the wrist and go on making a giant number of edits (probably 20 to 40 percent bad ones)? Summerdays1 (talk) 23:17, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
What you are describing is a content dispute, and the ways to deal with a content dispute are described at WP:DR. You are blowing things way out or proportion and lashing out at your perceived opponent on various talk pages, including here. This is not how disputes are handled on this project.-- Ponyobons mots 23:22, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
It's the scale or scope we're talking about. These are the articles in question-and there are about ten more since that time. I know you are busy but were you to look at them you would see this isn't a simple dispute. GH has been told several times not to edit a certain way. Some of the categories covered are American academia and politicians, colleges and universities, and British biographies. It's not one or even four articles in a certain genre.

Sock, meat, or neither?

Hey, I blocked Ccane95 because of his edits to his article Clay Cane. A new editor popped up, Magriff5, and has been making edits to the article (which I've been reverting). It's not an article that would attract a lot of attention, so I'm wondering if it's a sock or a meat puppet or perhaps someone affiliated with Cane but you won't be able to tell after a check. Would you mind doing the honours (notice the fawning spelling)? Query

Hello, Ponyo,

I'm running into something that I don't recognize and thought maybe I'd check with you in case you saw something I'm missing. One of the tasks that I do is look for orphaned talk pages that can be deleted. Recently, I've run into brand new editors who use the Draft talk page to place references they intend to use in an article. But there is nothing on the Draft page so I move the Draft talk page to the Draft page and post a Welcome message to them. See Draft:Reading Room (Mckinney) as an example. These are all new editors and I've come across this happening somewhere between 12 and 15 times over the past two weeks. I was thinking maybe it was a class effort where the students were given bad instructions on how to create an article but there is no connection to WikiEd. The latest editor says they are taking a course named HART 1300: Monuments and Masterpieces but I haven't seen this claim on the User pages of other editors. But all of the editors have about 2-5 edits, all composed of references that they paste to a Draft talk page, not a Draft page.

Does this behavior ring any bells? I'm hoping that you or a talk page stalker will recognize this odd behavior on the part of a dozen new editors. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 06:25, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi Liz, when I run across these oddities I'll post a message at Wikipedia:Education noticeboard to let the edu group know that there's a rogue class assignment. It doesn't align with any of the sockmasters I'm aware of.-- Ponyobons mots 20:03, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

@NoobThreePointOh I've seen this on three admins' pages that I watch, which suggests it's probably less random than you're suggesting. Ned Hardy/Heidi Lenhart

I wouldn't call Ned Hardy a blog even it it's not that well known. I asked for another editors opinion and he thought that it looked all right. I even asked about the source on WP:Reliable sources/Noticeboard but no one bothered to reply. Why didn't you? DrKilleMoff (talk) 01:08, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

It's a far cry from the type of reliable sourcing we depend upon for the inclusion of personal information in BLPs; I mean, the post you used even stops mid-sentence. "I think it looks alright" doesn't meet the "reputation for fact-checking and accuracy" required, and it is a single source, not the "widely published by reliable sources" required by WP:DOB. I was just lamenting to another admin yesterday about how so many editors confuse "I can find a source somewhere for this" with adherence to BLP policy. Also, are you asking me why I didn't participate in a noticeboard discussion I didn't know existed? If you provide a link, I can take a look. -- Ponyobons mots 16:51, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
Whoa I looked at that website and there's nothing about it that looks even remotely reliable. User:DrKilleMoff, I wouldn't call it a blog since there's no real focus on writing, but I'm in literary studies; the fact that it speaks in the plural ("Ned Hardy is made up of a team of dedicated researchers and writers who are cinephiles and pop culture enthusiast"--yeah that final "-s" is missing) also takes away from the bloggy part. But there is nothing about editorial oversight, nothing about review processes, and the articles themselves seem written by hobbyists but without byline and without any kind of sourcing. No, such a site will never be acceptable as a BLP reference. Drmies (talk) 17:57, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

Possible sock, do I file a report?

I'm on the fence on this one. At the article Yinka Ash, an obvious UPE, caught before I ever saw it, was blocked for using a proxy IP address (or the IP was blocked, I guess, not the account). Anyway, the account went dormant, but 5 days later, a new account started editing Yinka Ash again, with a lot of skill for someone who hadn't edited before. Of note: on their talk page, they used the acronym "UPE", twice, days apart, when no one else has ever used it in conversation with them. The acronym "UPE" also isn't in the template that I added to the Ash article. I know that doesn't prove anything, but it raised my eyebrow. Anyway, the same editor is back and reverted the addition of that tag at the top of the article. Looking for your opinion on their activity... legit? sock of the article creator? Fred Zepelin (talk) 20:54, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

The creator of the article is not blocked, and there's no overlap between the two accounts on the article. That being said, Anoghena Okoyomoh is editing in a manner that makes it apparent there is a conflict of interest. so a post at WP:COIN may be the best way forward as opposed to trying to put together an SPI.-- Ponyobons mots 00:35, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
Thank you. I also noticed the COI problem, which is why I added the tag at the top of the Yinka Ash article. They proceeded to WP:CANVAS for help from a different editor (whom I had reverted) that was being disruptive at Al-Duraji - fortunately, that article got more eyes on it and it appears that they've given up in the face of overwhelming consensus against them; I actually didn't have to get involved. The Yinka Ash article has not seen any more eyes on it, but going to WP:COIN is a good suggestion, thanks. Fred Zepelin (talk) 02:18, 28 February 2024 (UTC)

Missed a sock

Hello, named account reverting back to that IP. Special:Contributions/Canadianianian   Thanks Geardona (talk to me?) 20:50, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

@Geardona: Noted. This is an LTA that admins are well aware of. Please revert their edits and report them to AIV immediately when they pop up at their next target article (@Pickersgill-Cunliffe: as well).-- Ponyobons mots 20:56, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
No warning needed for blocks on them? Geardona (talk to me?) 20:58, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
You can a level 4 warning and report at the same time if you want, but they need to be blocked immediately - you can include Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/CalebHughes as the reason for the block in the AIV report. If any admins give you any trouble about reporting too soon, you can link this conversation.-- Ponyobons mots 21:02, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
Yep, they've just moved on to Don Cheadle with User:Haliburtonian and User:74.139.171.222. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 21:07, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

Unblocking of User:Friday musa

Hi @Ponyo. Hope this message finds you well. I write to you with respect to the Indefinite blockage set to User:Friday musa's account on the English Wikipedia. I have been following the discussion and I have seen that it is taking quite long to resolve. I am appealing not just on his behalf but on the behalf of the Tyap Wikimedians User Group to help unblock his account as this posseses a big setback to our operations as an affiliate. Thanks and warm regards, Kambai Akau (talk) 16:59, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

Kambai Akau, there is no current unblock request at User talk:Friday musa, which would need to be made by Friday musa (third parties cannot use the unblock template to make appeals on behalf of another user). If you believe the block to have been in error, then you can begin a thread asking for review at WP:XRV, but you should discuss your concerns with the blocking admin prior to doing so.-- Ponyobons mots 20:49, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
Okay, thanks @Ponyo. I will do just that! Warm regards, Kambai Akau (talk) 22:54, 8 March 2024 (UTC)

I Need your Help

DNFTT

Helloo, Greetings You are my inspirational user in wikipedia. I like your way of editing style. I had come to Know that you had added adminsitrator access (Indefinite) I mean currently it is in salting policy to create Actor Jishnu Raghavan. Can I say one solution better as a you are a leading administrators instead of Deleting you can recreate this article by your intelligent mind and protect it Indefinitely it may either semi-protect (or) extended-protect from the Nonsense sockpupeter becasuse of that idiot sockpuppet a famous late indian actor article has been deleted and not available in pillar of wikipedia that is English wikipedia I Know that you had protected so many celebrities pages from wikipedia in indefinite that's why. Why now i'm saying is I will view wikipedia and edited some pages without creating account randomly I had searched this Jishnu's page on Oct 2023 then last month again I had checked I has been deleted. That's why and in future I will create account and you can instruct me how to utilize in wikipedia. Thank you! 2409:4072:6D0E:53E2:C00:27F7:43B:9B86 (talk) 02:03, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

Oh my, "inspirational user", "leading administrator", "intelligent mind". It's nice to have a fan, even if they are a sock (I've blocked them...not that it'll do any good). Bowing and scraping, I leave you O Almighty One.--Bbb23 (talk) 02:33, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
@Bbb23 This is actually hilarious, ngl. Just reading that long line of text makes me snicker. NoobThreePointOh (talk) 03:12, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
Hey are what's wrong with u I'm asking to create an article for an late film actor and acted in more than 20 films. What's the big deal to create the article titled Jishnu Raghavan. Not only this article Many article in english wikipedia which is related to film, television dramas celebrities leading for deletion nowadays it's very embarrassing. Shame of English wikipedia users. You all idiot users only know to add SPI, CSD and Block users. 2409:4072:6C08:9F88:89D8:CCD7:D402:F22B (talk) 06:28, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

To the most inspirational user leader administrator of indefinite access, could you please block the IP as they have attempted recreation? I have added them here if it helps, and the draft is at Draft:Jishnu Raghavan (actor). Can't make this stuff up anymore. lol. --CNMall41 (talk) 08:34, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

I also see that the sock created this article in MANY other languages (see this image and where it is being used). --CNMall41 (talk) 10:25, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
Thevdiya CNMall41 definitely I will spare you because of you Jishnu Raghavan's article has been deleted. This war between you and me started from December 8 2023, But mark my words one I will definitely create article for my Jishnu. You will see that Punda Mavane. Kena koothi go man mayiru 2409:40F4:14:BC4C:98A8:94BD:BF85:9236 (talk) 09:18, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
@CNMall41 I've personally reported them to Bbb himself. Let's see what this IP will say now. NoobThreePointOh (talk) 10:27, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
@NoobThreePointOh:, Thanks. I actually think notifications should start being made globally for all of the pages created by the SOCKS in other languages. They seem to have the WP:ICANTHEARYOU attitude. --CNMall41 (talk) 10:31, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
@CNMall41 Yeah. It's pretty annoying. Also the fact that a "war" went on since December 8 for a rejected draft is actually pretty long. I'm just disappointed that this IP refuses to even get the point. Personally, I'm glad Ponyo made it so that only legitimate accounts can create a draft for the article and not socks. Secularyear2023 sock

Hello, you blocked User:अ-ह as a sock a month ago, and I'm seeing very similar behaviour from new account मनोकुमार. Should I open an SPI, or is this an open-and-shut case? Wikishovel (talk) 11:42, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

Hi there. As the blocking admin of Fhektii, I wonder if you could take a look at the edits of this IP user Special:Contributions/84.146.2.66. They are essentially supporting all of Fhektii's edits and almost nothing else. Thanks. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 14:29, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

Concerning User talk:Fhektii Moving Benjamin Djulbegovic from Mainspace to Draft

Hi Ponyo,

It seems user Fhektii moved page Benjamin Djulbegovic to Draft:Benjamin Djulbegovic Fhektii does not appear to be responding to Talk. I want to remain polite and kind. My question is, how might I move this draft back to mainstream? I have made significant edits. Fhektii included an accusation that someone paid to put this content up. No one has paid me. I do not know the original editor(s), however, I found this while looking for an obscure reference. The page in question is written about a well respected professor and oncologist. I have done my best to address any areas of concern. I emailed the Professor for a photo and he responded the same day and then, after reading the Wikipedia form, he realized that he may not own the copyright and so immediately sent a selfie instead which I then used. Thank you for any help or direction you can give to help get this page to mainspace

Warmest regards, ~~~AmyEBHC AmyEBHC (talk) 05:30, 11 March 2024 (UTC)

Somehow...

...in all these years I've never figured out how to mass revert. Would you or another friendly talk page watcher hit Special:Contributions/Ferretivo with a mass rollback under WP:BANREVERT please? -- ferret (talk) 12:58, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

@Ferret: Take a look at User:Bbb23/vector.js. I believe the first script listed is what permits me to do mass rollbacks. It's very handy. Disclaimer: my knowledge of scripts and how they work is non-existent, and the user whose script it supposedly is hasn't been around in 6M years. It may be maintained by someone else. You might ask Writ Keeper if you're nervous about installing it.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:03, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
@Bbb23: That'd actually be importScript('User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/massRollback.js');, the first line in your common.js page. The distinction is that scripts inserted into vector.js will only be loaded when you use the Vector skin, whereas anything put in common.js will load no matter what skin you're in. Ferret, you can install the same massRollback script by inserting the same line into your common.js page, but if you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them. :) Writ Keeper  18:43, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
I don't know how I missed that, Writ Keeper - I could swear I looked at all the possible places for it. What exactly is the Gracenotes script, and is it doing anything or hurting anything? I do use the Vector skin (legacy). Good thing I pinged you, thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:09, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

A familiar face you met in 2023 (possibly)...

Hi, Ponyo. Remember User:Becausewhynothuh? when you declined their unblock request somewhere in 2023? I have a feeling this user is a sock of them. Thank you for your processing. However, is it difficult to block IPs..? In fact, these puppets often enter here through IP after being blocked and operate there haha.. Lades2222 (talk) 23:16, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
Per Wikimidia's privacy policy, excluding very limited instances, checkusers cannot link IPs to accounts. An admin or SPI clerk will review the case and decide if any action is needed with regard to the IPs.-- Ponyobons mots 23:27, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

I appreciate it
