WikiProject Elections and Referendums article tagging

Hi Philosopher. Sorry to have to post directly on your talk page, but you may have noticed (on the WP:Elections and referendums talk page) that I am trying to get all the election and referendum articles tagged for the project. Unfortunately this is not making any progress, as people are claiming there is no consensus to do this, as no-one has responded on the Project talk page. Could you possibly comment on the proposal at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Elections and Referendums#Bot to tag articles for the WikiProject, as I'm getting rather frustrated by the attitude of the people at WP:BTR. Cheers, Number 57 12:42, 20 August 2014 (UTC)

Meetup at the Hull House!

Hey Philosopher. The Jane Addams Hull-House Museum is doing an edit-a-thon later next week. It's kind of on a weird day of the week to accommodate students at UIC, but you're welcome to join us if you're free. Let us know if you can make it, it'd be great to see you at a meetup! Help with a politics-related bio

Hi there, Philosopher! I came across your name on the list of members at WikiProject Biography and since you have an interest in political bios, I thought to reach out. On behalf of his firm, Vianovo, I've been working on some updates for political consultant Tucker Eskew. His article is a little messy at the moment and there's some additional / new information that can be added, so I'm looking for help reviewing my suggestions for the article and making the edits if they look good. If you have a moment, would you mind taking a look at the suggestions here? If you're busy right now, I totally understand: any chance you might know of other active editors on biographies? So many of those listed on the WikiProject are no longer active. Thanks in advance! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 15:02, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

It looks like you're on the right general track: I haven't worked on any in-depth biographies here on Wikipedia, preferring to start a bunch of basic articles and encourage others to get involved. If you are looking for active editors, I recommend that you check out the talk pages and histories of the articles for similar people - those contributors are more likely to be used to this kind of editing. You don't want someone who will over-politicize the article (always a temptation for editors before an election, sadly) but if you look through the recent edits, you should see a few people who like to fix things up and expand articles. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. – Philosopher Let us reason together. 18:00, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks Philosopher, all good suggestions! I've been looking around a bit for editors who focus on this type of bio, hopefully I'll find someone soon. If anyone does come to mind, please do drop me a note! Thanks again, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 13:14, 31 October 2014 (UTC)

How do you close Afds?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Stop_Porn_Culture_(2nd_nomination)

In relation to this, I'm wondering how you close afds with that. Is there some sort of template you have to fill out? Some userscript you can use? Thanks. (I'm aware of the procedures for closing afds and the like, and would like to get into it.) Tutelary (talk) 01:46, 9 November 2014 (UTC)

@User:Tutelary. Yes, there are special templates for them, and a few special rules. Obviously, a non-administrator can only close discussions that don't require special tools to close (e.g. not close as "delete" discussions), and should generally avoid contentious closes. You can find instructions at WP:NACD. The templates required, including step-by-step instructions, are located in the following section. Personally, I use a script to help - you can install it by adding importScript('User:Mr.Z-man/closeAFD.js'); to your Special:MyPage/common.js page. Even if you use the script to help you out, please do read the instructions before you begin. Good luck and thanks for helping! – Philosopher Let us reason together. 01:58, 9 November 2014 (UTC)
(Oh, how does the script work? You should see a "close" option in the drop-down "more" menu that says "Close" when viewing an AfD discussion after you've installed the script. – Philosopher Let us reason together. 01:59, 9 November 2014 (UTC) )
Thanks. I've just closed my first afd with it. The proposer withdrew it and I closed the afd appropriately. Tutelary (talk) 02:06, 9 November 2014 (UTC)
Nicely done, congrats. – Philosopher Let us reason together. 18:51, 9 November 2014 (UTC)

You are correct that it shouldn't matter that the software is not in use anymore; perhaps I meant that because the software has been discontinued, it was unlikely that any new sources would appear. Brianyoumans (talk) 13:53, 20 November 2014 (UTC)

Your closure of multiple discussions on Talk ISIL

Hi, you recently closed the following disscussions on the ISIL talk page:

You have not been involved in any of these discussions. I do not understand why you have shut them down. Gregkaye 07:28, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

@User:Gregkaye: It looks like User:lowercase sigmabot III goofed a bit when archiving the "Addition of WP:SIZE Template" section, which I did close, here. Because it removed the {{archive bottom}} template but not the {{archive top}} template, the remaining template made the entire page appear to have been closed. – Philosopher Let us reason together. 23:48, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Iowa politicians

Hi-I worked on the article about Ralph Klemme which needed work. I also started articles about Ola Babcock Miller, John Redwine, Jean Hall Lloyd-Jones, and Mary Neuhauser. Please feel free to look at the articles and make any improvements. And my thanks to the Iowa General Assembly and their database of past legislators. I wish the Wisconsin Legislature would set up a database of past Wisconsin legislators. Many thanks-RFD (talk) 13:13, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

Thanks - I've watchlisted them and added them to the queue.  :) I am also quite glad that the General Assembly maintains a good database of past legislators - a very handy reference, to be sure! Speaking of which, thanks for adding {{Iowa Women's Hall of Fame}} to some of those articles - I had not been aware of that template's existence. Keep up the good work! – Philosopher Let us reason together. 19:07, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
Many thanks-I started an article about John Judge who served in the Iowa Senate. His wife is Patty Judge who also served in the Iowa Senate. One note-Ola Babcock Miller is one of the most interesting persons I came across since I joined Wikipedia. She was an very interesting lady. Thanks again-RFD (talk) 21:04, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
