Non-free rationale for File:VinnieTakesABow.png

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:VinnieTakesABow.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:32, 21 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Zia1stedition.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Zia1stedition.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 22:46, 22 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Who Murdered Chaucer?

edit

The article Who Murdered Chaucer? has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

After nine years, this subject offers no credential of notability. The author is not a reputable Chaucerian analyst. The article remains as little more than an advertisement for the book, while providing no encyclopedic information about it. Since the title is listed in an article on the author, there seems little point in keeping the present article.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hey Girlfriend! Need hand on an LCCN

edit

Hey Peg! Glad to see you're still around. Having trouble locating the correct LCCN ID number in a book I plan on citing on numerous topic pages with overlapping history: The work is 1989 ISBN 0-930973-09-7

Hmmmm
From my offline prep of {{cite book}}... using '| lccn= 89-25150' things would seem to work okay and my guess be correct:
Bartholomew, Ann M.; Metz, Lance E.; Kneis, Michael (1989). DELAWARE and LEHIGH CANALS, 158 pages (First ed.). Oak Printing Company, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania: Center for Canal History and Technology, Hugh Moore Historical Park and Museum, Inc., Easton, Pennsylvania. p. 25-28. ISBN 0930973097. LCCN 89-25150. Hello again Peg! I need to say hi!

The issue is a bit academic, inasmuch as the Format section of Library of Congress Control Number claims six digits with leading zeros are the current format. The picyune question which gives me an excuse to renew acquaintance is whether that paragraph should perhaps mention that older LCCN's may not have such leading zeros (assuming I've reasoned this all out correctly!) since no other coded sequence on that line resembles said format in the least. So Hi! Miss You! and have I got this right? How's the Family? IIRC, you're putting up with teens nowadays! Ouchy! Warm regards, FrankB 15:32, 2 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

What, no hello! Don't you love me any more? Happy Olympics Sunday! LOL FrankB 17:59, 7 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
I plead the aforementioned teens (and participation in local theatre) for the delay. XD Glad to hear you're still poking around! It sounds like you've figured out the LCCN issue; if you want to add that the leading zeros are a more recent addition to the format, that might forestall any questions you might field. Nap time now...! Cheers, Her Pegship (talk) 21:40, 7 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Alas, I fear we are both getting into years where those nap-naps are no longer for the kids! Nor staying the years... when they are unattractive and seem like a waste of resources! But now Teens! Oh my! Are you playing Chauffeur and sports-mom too? I spent man months between soccer, baseball and cub & boy scouts. At least in the latter I occasionally got some exercise! I remember those years, good luck with that! LOL Be well! // FrankB 03:15, 11 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Extended confirmed protection

edit

Hello, Pegship. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
