David Montano

Despite an obvious objection, and only two people commenting at this discussion, the redirect for "David Montano" was deleted without allowing one week of discussion. If a good reason is not provided soon, I am going to take this to WP:DRV. --Jax 0677 (talk) 18:50, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Having a name redirect to information about the criminal activity of someone else with that name combination as their middle+last name – which gets essentially 0 hits in reliable sources covering the event – is a WP:BLP violation. Tavix's reasoning is sound, as seen through the Google News search, and given the BLP issues, it was justified to delete it without waiting the entire week. Please ping/me or otherwise notify me if you want to take it to DRV.---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 18:51, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
  • When I made the nomination, I was so focused on the fact that he's not known by his middle name, that I completely neglected to consider the WP:BLP issues. I was surprised to see it closed early, but Patar knight is completely correct here. The search results show a minor basketball coach by the name, and we wouldn't want to connect him with a list on police killings. Best, -- Tavix (talk) 20:10, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Patar knight. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

PLEASE ADVISE & HELP - DELETION of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andreas_Neumann

At some point, in the recent past, you are identified as the person who deleted the profile of the notable photographer and entrepreneur Andreas Neumann. [[1]] His profile was a part of Wikipedia for many many years. Is there some way you could re-instate his page and help edit the content as noted by your G11 reason for deletion? I will happily help in any way I can to provide more citations from various sources.--Chaseisgr8 (talk) 20:38, 1 October 2016 (UTC)

I did a survey of the sources used, and most if not all of them don't support the facts they are used to cite, and either do not mention Neumann at all or just in passing. The article was therefore a fluff piece that couldn't be saved without significant editing, so it was acceptable to delete it under WP:G11. If you want a copy of the text to work on and create something that meets our WP:ARTIST notability guideline and verifiability policy, I can email the text to you. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 23:11, 2 October 2016 (UTC)

You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Edward Iacobucci), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Reporting issues

Hello Patar knight, Their is an issue going on. I don"t really understand this User ‎Citobun, He/she is accusing me a COI when am not engage with COI on wikipedia, i have explained to him/her on its [talk page] but still don"t understand me yet. Due to this issue He/she decided to nominate all my article which i have created AFD. To be sincere this is not right according to wikipedia Harassment. I explained my self in a good manners to Him/her but still not comfortable. I believe what Him/her did was not proper on wikipedia. That is not the right way to nominate an article for AFD. He/she decided to frustrate me with that. He/she talks to me, to prove my self about the Images uploaded, i understand Wikipedia says About Uploading Images to an article. This is what i have to say, I hope you understand me, Thanks.--Jamzy4 (talk) 10:17, 7 October 2016 (UTC)

The issue here is that you've claimed to own the copyright on several high quality pictures of these musicians. There's two possible scenarios here. The first is that you've incorrectly claimed copyright and the pictures are actually copyright violations and would go against our Wikipedia:Image_use_policy#Copyright_and_licensingiImage use policy. The second is that you're the photographer or you're acting on behalf of a company that paid for the photos to showcase their artists, in which case you would be have a conflict of interest since you have a stake in the success of the article subjects. Which one of these scenarios applies to your case?
As for the articles for deletion process, anyone can nominate any article they want and normally a week's worth of discussion will determine the article's future. In this case, the concern is that the musicians do not meet our notability guidelines for musicians, so none of the speedy keep criteria for AfD would apply. I would either argue your case that the musicians meet the aforementioned guidelines, or request that they be userfied to your userspace for future work in the event that the outcome is deletion. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 14:31, 7 October 2016 (UTC)

Tally Ho page

Yes, it's an almost direct copy of the article on the ASA page, because I am an administrator of the ASA website and the author and I agreed it was sensible to have relevant text on Wikipedia.

" Looks good to me, Gordon, although I don't think she ever made it to NZ. She was sailed from England by a Kiwi who took on a job shipping copra in the islands where she ended up on the reef, not doing the job or getting to NZ. After repairs she went to Hawaii and then Brookings.

Tally Ho (yacht)

So again you've just deleted the page without question.

It was the very short replacement page I'd put up for the much longer and more informative page I had originally contributed which was also deleted with no opportunity to comment.

All of the links were tested when I created the page, just yesterday, but you say "dependent on a broken or deleted page"

Stop being an arrogant [expletive deleted] and at least raise the question before you just delete other people's efforts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GordonScott (talkcontribs) 14:13, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

Draft pages are for actual drafts; the deleted page was functionally a talk page. I've already talked with you about how to donate copyrighted materials and what notability guidelines need to be met for articles to be accepted on Wikipedia. Without a release under a sufficiently free license, copyrighted material cannot be accepted on Wikipedia, regardless of how notable the article subject may be or how much work contributors put into assembling it.---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 14:30, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
If you want a copy of the deleted draft, I can send one to you via email, but it should be re-uploaded unless the copyright is either donated or it is entirely rewritten to no longer be a copyright violation. It should also go through WP:AFC, given the concerns about notability. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 14:41, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

blake bortles wikipedia page restoration

Hello! Simply existing isn't a credible claim of significance, so it was deleted under WP:A7. If you can find reliable sources though, content about the podcast can be added to the Barstool page, but since it's so new, it's not likely to happen right now. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 17:58, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

Photo assistance

Hi Patar,

Thanks for your insightful message. I did send you an email as well, and I realized afterward it would come across rather terse, for which I apologize, I am just new with Wikipedia and I don't really understand the full scope of the project.

Thank you for your additional citations and work, it is helping me frame my thinking of how to add to this page. The age citation is actually incorrect on the source page, and are working to update it.

Something I could use your help on is a photo of MP Damoff. Would her official House of Commons portrait be acceptable? It is public domain as far as I understand.

Rick Dykstra page edit

I like what you did with the page, but have one small disagreement. Rather than get in a revert war, I thought I'd approach you directly. Rick Dykstra, a political veteran with both provincial and federal experience, leader of the provincial PC party, trying to get into the legislature by standing in a true-blue riding, lost to a 19 y/o pol-sci student. That surely warrants stronger phrasing than a dry and clinical 'defeat'. 'Embarrassing' and 'humiliating' are words that come to mind, but are probably not appropriate, but I thought 'rebuked' worked rather well to describe what happened. I concede that 'stinging rebuke' may have been a bit too strong.

Anyway, I'll leave it up to you, given your much more extensive experience here.

209.162.252.177 (talk) 16:36, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

It is embarrassing and humiliating, but those words aren't neutral and we're a neutral encyclopedia that is supposed to be reporting on facts in an uninterested manner. I think the fact that Mr. Dykstra's career is described in detail on the rest of his page, only to be followed by a paragraph on how he lost a nomination hearing of the party he is president for to a 19-year old is already embarrassing. The addition of non-neutral words is unnecessary to convey how much of an upset it is and would lean into problematic territory in respect to our policy on biographies of living people. Thank you for making the edits though, and I hope you continue to edit in the future, either as an IP editor or with an account. Thanks, ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 16:45, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

Go (game) complexity

Saying go has vastly more game possibilities than chess is one thing; saying it's more "complex" on the other hand, without specifically saying what "complex" is, isn't very good imo. Feel free to add that "more complex than chess" bit if you also explain what complexity it's even talking about. Ethanbas (talk) 15:00, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

I think you're wrong since complexity is defined in the footnotes and later on the article (just search for "Chess"), but the same claim is essentially repeated in less strong terms in the same lede paragraph, so it's not a big deal. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 14:17, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

Are you that fast in deleting the pages? [2] Can't you wait a second and ask a questions? You just wasted my whole day's handwork. I had just put the content and I was going to rephrase it. Don't be that aggressive and don't spoil other's creativity and handwork. It's not only you who have the right idea and thing to put on the Wikipedia. (Chod Lay (talk) 17:45, 3 November 2016 (UTC)).

For legal reasons copyright violations are not allowed on Wikipedia. If you want a copy of the text to work on before uploading a non-copyvio version to Wikipedia, shoot me an email. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 17:57, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
I am working on the content. I'll show you once it is done. Can you retrieve the page? I would be thankful of you. (Chod Lay (talk) 18:25, 3 November 2016 (UTC)).
If you want a copy of the article text at time of deletion, send me an email. The page is not locked, so it can be recreated. However, just because it is not a copyright violation does not mean it will not be speedily deleted for being blatantly promotional or through the regular articles for deletion process for failing to meet out notability guidelines for people. Also, just a FYI, on Wikipedia, conversation flow depends on the use of ":"s to indent paragraphs. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 18:29, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
No, I don't need the content right now. I have the copy. But my question is; when will I be able to recreate it? (Chod Lay (talk) 18:34, 3 November 2016 (UTC)).
You can recreate it at any time. However it will be open to speedy deletion under any applicable criteria (e.g. G12 (copyvio), A7 (no credible assertion of notability), or G11 (blatantly promotional), etc.). It might also be sent to articles for deletion, which is a longer process, if an editor does not feel it does not meet our notability guidelines for people. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 18:42, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
OK Thanks,, I think the page fulfill the notability. And there wouldn't be anything related to promotion or advert. It is just a fact base article. I am just gathering all the things in once article because you know the Wikipedia is the place where people find the whole scenario at a single page. I have no intention of promotion nor I have any link to the person. I am just doing it for the purpose of encouragement and information of the common masses. (Chod Lay (talk) 18:50, 3 November 2016 (UTC))
Hey Patar knight you had said that I can create the page whenever I want but now I am unable to create the page. Can you help me with that? (Chod Lay (talk) 14:38, 5 November 2016 (UTC))

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Patar knight.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Discussion on the Removal of "The Moving Forbidden City"

This friend, hello, I am the editor of "Mobile Forbidden City", I see you deleted my entry because it is an advertisement and publicity, I do not think so, the flow of the Forbidden City is a The artist has designed a performance program based on the elements of the Forbidden City in China. It has never been commercial in nature and does not charge any fees for its performances. People like it can see these works for free, like a painting by a painter. Works the same. The flow of the Forbidden City is not advertising, it is not to let everyone to buy it, but to inherit a better work of human cultural heritage, so that the legacy of cultural services in the human spiritual world. And it is not a propaganda, it exists for two decades, has been unknown for the people who like it, it represents a common cultural phenomenon of mankind, it will not be to develop their own and become commercialize. So, please seriously think about this friend check, thank you for every Wikipedia editor. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xiaodan2016 (talkcontribs) 07:03, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

Something does not have to be a commercial venture or charge fees to be considered promotional. It is possible to write in an advertorial tone about non-profit entities, which is what you did.
