Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Leadhills Golf Club. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Cabayi (talk) 16:02, 4 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Ol1vercloff, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia, such as AndrewW5 (talk · contribs). Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this, and users who misuse multiple accounts may be blocked from editing. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please disclose these connections. Thank you. Cabayi (talk) 16:03, 4 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi there. AndrewW5 was an account I set up as I forgot the password for Ol1vercloff. I have since recovered the password and no longer have a need for AndrewW5. Please can you arrange for that account to be deleted? Ol1vercloff (talk) 16:08, 4 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
It's not possible to delete accounts as their contributions need to be attributed. If you confirm your declaration with the AndrewW5 account I can block it to prevent you accidentally switching back and forth as you are at the moment (which will get both accounts blocked). Hi there. AndrewW5 was me registering a new account when I temporarily lost access to Ol1vercloff. Please can you advise me when the Leadhills Golf Club and Gary Maley pages I created will be reinstated? Ol1vercloff (talk) 16:25, 4 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

please block the AndrewW5 account and reinstate the Leadhills Golf Club and Gary Maley pages. Ol1vercloff (talk) 16:28, 4 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Please sign in as AndrewW5 (talk · contribs) and verify the request using that account. Cabayi (talk) 11:54, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi there. please block the AndrewW5 account and reinstate the Leadhills Golf Club page. AndrewW5 (talk) 11:56, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
I've blocked AndrewW5 as an unwanted alternate account. Draft:Leadhills Golf Club may be submitted for review whenever you wish. You still need to make the paid-editing declaration as requested on the AndrewW5 talk page. Cabayi (talk) 16:21, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Could you delete the page and I'll recreate it? Ol1vercloff (talk) 16:36, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
That would deny attribution to the other editors who have contributed so, no. Cabayi (talk) 06:44, 6 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
It has not passed the review anyway, so never mind. Ol1vercloff (talk) 07:31, 6 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
please can you delete Leadhills Golf Club draft and let me know once done? Ol1vercloff (talk) 08:14, 6 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
(again) That would deny attribution to the other editors who have contributed so, no. It doesn't need to be deleted for you to edit it - though before you do you still need to declare your paid conflict of interest as requested and this is the last time I'll ask you. Cabayi (talk) 14:03, 6 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Could you unblock the IP address as it is preventing me from doing anything on the Ol1vercloff account. Ol1vercloff (talk) 11:24, 6 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
sorry, I don't understand what the paid conflict of interest is. I'm not paid to do anything on Wikipedia Ol1vercloff (talk) 15:15, 6 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

Hello, Ol1vercloff. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:Leadhills Golf Club, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Speedy deletion nomination of Craig Young (Scottish Footballer)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Craig Young (Scottish Footballer) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Fram (talk) 16:25, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Your account has been blocked indefinitely for advertising or promotion and violating the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use. This is because you have been making promotional edits to topics in which you have a financial stake, yet you have failed to adhere to the mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a form of conflict of interest (COI) editing which involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is strictly prohibited. Using this site for advertising or promotion is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia.

If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, please read our guide to appealing blocks to understand more about unblock requests, and then add the text {{unblock|reason=your reason here ~~~~}} at the end of your user talk page. For that request to be considered, you must:

  • Confirm that you have read and understand the Terms of Use and paid editing disclosure requirements.
  • State clearly how you are being compensated for your edits, and describe any affiliation or conflict of interest you might have with the subjects you have written about.
  • Describe how you intend to edit such topics in the future.

AndrewW5 (talk · contribs) started as Leadhillsgolfclub, became AndrewMarketingLGC, then AndrewMarketing5 before ending as AndrewW5 (see the history of User talk:AndrewW5). You have declared AndrewW5 is your alternate account while you were unable to access this one. You are being paid to edit this article. Both accounts have been cautioned on the point. Neither account made the declarations required. Cabayi (talk) 14:35, 7 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi there. I have read and understood the terms of use and paid editing disclosure requirements. I am not being compensated for my edits. I have no affiliation or conflict of interest for Leadhills Golf Course - other than having played the golf course once. I tried to appease Wikipedia by providing as many references about the golf club as possible to get the page approved and published. As for future edits, I don't plan to make any as the page has as much information as I think it's possible to have for a club of it's size. Ol1vercloff (talk) 14:35, 7 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps the first username Leadhillsgolfclub was a bit naive. The purpose of the account was to set up a page for the golf club and nothing more. I'm not sure how else to tell you that I am not being paid for my edits. To paraphrase a sentence from your previous message - I will not state this again. Ol1vercloff (talk) 14:38, 7 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Might I suggest a less aggressive approach to your moderation duties? You have been quite difficult to deal with throughout this process. All I wanted to do was to contribute to Wikipedia by adding a page about a golf club which has a small online presence. But I was made to feel like I was doing something awful. Ol1vercloff (talk) 14:40, 7 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps look at your own false statements instead of blaming your problems on aggressive moderation? Either you falsely tried to make it look as if you were Andrew Wright, marketing employee for Leadhills Golf Club (which would be impersonation, not allowed here), or you really are that Andrew Wright, and then, whether you are paid or a volunteer, it was false to claim that "I have no affiliation or conflict of interest for Leadhills Golf Course - other than having played the golf course once." Either way, we can't trust you to be truthful, and it looks quite convincing that you have a COI or are being paid to create the LGC page, but that you are unwilling to declare that COI. Which leaves us with no option than to block you, and will lead to immediate suspicions about new accounts trying to create a page for the golf course as well. Ways to improve Eamon Fullerton

edit

Hello, Ol1vercloff,

Thank you for creating Eamon Fullerton.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

What is needed are references from significant coverage about this player, and not their own words; in multiple secondary sources which are WP:RS; that is your guide. Lists, Team rosters, Soccerway, Instagram, Facebook, none of these are reliable sources. (There have been changes to the notability guide for sports - see WP:NSPORT ) You may also read WP:PRIMARY which details the limited permitted usage of primary sources. A more comprehensive guide is WP:SOURCES ... Providing sufficient references, ideally giving more information about this player, that meet these criteria is likely to allow this article to remain. Lack of them or an inability to find them is likely to mean that the topic is not suitable for inclusion. Kindly do the needful. Thank you.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Whiteguru}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Ways to improve Balbardie Park of Peace Golf Course

edit

Hello, Ol1vercloff,

Thank you for creating Balbardie Park of Peace Golf Course.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

This article needs more references to satisfy notability for sport. What is needed are references that give significant coverage about golf course, and independent of it, in multiple secondary sources which are WP:RS; that is your guide. You may also read WP:PRIMARY which details the limited permitted usage of primary sources. A more comprehensive guide is WP:SOURCES ... Providing sufficient references, ideally one per fact referred to, that meet these tough criteria is likely to allow this article to remain. Lack of them or an inability to find them is likely to mean that the topic is not suitable for inclusion. Kindly do the needful. Thank you.

Deletion discussion about Mark Duthie

edit

Hello, Ol1vercloff, and welcome to Wikipedia. I edit here too, under the username North8000, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Mark Duthie, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mark Duthie.

You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not ballot-polls. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|North8000}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!
