License tagging for Image:RMatkari.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:RMatkari.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 14:08, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to WP:India edit

Welcome!

Hi, and welcome to the India WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of India.

A few features that you might find helpful:

There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

  • Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every India article in Wikipedia.
  • Can you code? The automation department uses automated and semi-automated methods to perform batch tasks that would be tedious to do manually.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Kris (☎ talk | contribs) 05:59, 24 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

By the way, sorry for the late welcome message.

Hi, a quick question edit

User Hkelkar and I have started working together (instead of fighting!) on the page Indian Buddhist Movement. I was wondering if anyone from WikiProject India would be interested. Since you gave him a barnstar and you're a member of this project, I thought even you might be interested (hope hope?). If you look on the talk page for this article (sorry, I'm pretty new yet and haven't quite figured out links), you'll see I've compiled a list of books. Hkelkar is going to look into some, but I thought if you had ever seen or read any of them, that would save us some time. Even a small comment would be helpful. Thanks so much in advance!NinaEliza 08:51, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

That's fine. I'm a bit disappointed because you seemed cool from the looks of your user page (by the way, have you seen Metalocalypse on Adult Swim? if you haven't, go to the Adult Swim website and you can watch the latest episode in it's entirety - It's AWESOME!). Since there's something like 160 other members of WikiProject India (wow!), I'm sure Hkelkar and I can find someone else if we put our heads together. I'm also confident an opportunity to work with you in the future will come up, so that I can experience your coolness first hand:).

I'm sorry to hear about your concerns with History of Buddhism in India - to be honest, I didn't even know there was such a thing as Anti-Brahminism until today. It does indeed suck when people try and push their views on unsuspecting articles, or overwhelm what were once healthy collaborations with obvious bias. You prove yourself to be an excellent Wikipedian (IMHO) whenever you point that out.

That's why I'm so glad that Hkelkar has become helpful and informative all of sudden. He even wrote an article on the Kherlanji Massacre last night, I'm assuming in response to the users who kept trying to put it into Indian Buddhist Movement inappropriately. I think he's done an excellent job so far.

I've got some ideas swimming around in my head about how the Wikipedia community can do better at addressing your concerns, but as I'm still a bit new here, I'll just keep thinking:).

Thanks again for your response and happy editing! NinaEliza 10:48, 26 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Renaming a Category edit

Hi Bhadaniji, how are you ? Recently, I came across a category called Category:Government of Mumbai. Actually, I feel that the title of the category is incorrect, as no such thing exists as the government of Mumbai. I feel the category should be renamed to "Governance of Mumbai". Someone had already raised the point on the talkpage. But noone renamed the category. I am not too familiar with the process of renaming categories. Can you help me on this one ? Thanks, --NRS | T/M\B 17:38, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree with your point - there is no such entity as the Government of Mumbai, and perhaps it should be changed to Governance of Mumbai. However, we may see the names of similar categories, if any, for other metros like Kolkata and Chennai. Most likely, the redundant category will have to be deleted after complying with the procedure. A reference to Nichalp should be useful. I am doing this by cutting-pasting these exchanges on his talk page. --Bhadani 18:57, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
But, I found many Category:Government by city and some of them may be having their own governments too. --Bhadani 19:03, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Reply is here. --Bhadani 06:04, 26 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ghatam Udupa edit

Hello New Rock Star - could you consider working the list at the bottom into prose? We have a lot of suggestions at the moment, so you should try and get a large main text as possible - as at the moment - there is a substantial list and the main text is not as substantial as it could be. Thanks, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:30, 27 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi New Rock Star. Thanks again. For the Maharashtra portal, yeah, we would simply create a bold link to the archive and put in the older stuff there. I can do it for you if you want. I think the problem with the portal is the news updates. I think you would be in the best position to sort that out. Regards, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 07:21, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume I, Issue 3 - December 2006 edit

Project News
  • Name change of cities in Karnataka: A straw poll was conducted on the proposal to change the name of cities in Karnataka, per the Nov 1, 2006 decision by the Karnataka government to rename them from the current anglicised forms. The result of the poll was to change the names. As controversial as the decision may be in the real world, the article Bangalore in Wikipedia still reflects the old name. You may be interested in knowing why. Dig the archives.
  • New Project Noticeboard (Shortcut:WP:INB): WikiProject India now sports a new colourful centralised noticeboard. An effort to make the noticeboard current and dynamic was mooted a few days back, and Ganeshk came up with the new format. The new noticeboard will strive to be the one-stop shop for all project related information. The shortcut is WP:INB.
  • Members List: The old members list is being phased out to give way for the new members list. New members are requested to add their names to the new members list. As the newsletter grows, further issues of the Project Newsletter will be delivered to those enlisted in the new list. So dash down now, to check if ur name is in there.

Note from Editor's Desk
  • Welcome to the December 2006 edition of our newsletter. Time flies past like matter into the black hole. It is interesting to notice that we are already into the last month for the year of 2006. 2006 saw discussions and development beyond realisation. In the world of Wikipedia where quality counts than quantity, we have come a long way. We've made better than 'nothing', to say the least, and even that is an achievement. I take this opportunity to thank everyone including those who have dotted the i's and crossed the t's.
  • As before, we'd like to stress, this is your newsletter, and we want you to be part of it as well. Provide us with news tips. It can be anything related to the project, from discussions to calls for help, and other interesting stuff within our community. If you have received or given any barnstars recently, do let us know. Sponsored content for recruitments within your WikiProject sub-groups are also welcome. We'll be very happy to include them here.
  • Before we sign off, Advance New Year Wishes, everyone.
This edition special
  • How to?: The "how to" part of assessment is very simple. Just head on to the talk page of any India related page and you'll find the {{WP India}} template. Simply classify the article based on the content and the criteria mentioned here. You can find the detailed instructions here. If you think it may qualify for GA/FA status, first consider submitting the article for peer review.
