Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks! edit

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Line Friends exhibition of the webtoon "Save Me" in Times Square, NYC.png edit

Thank you for uploading File:Line Friends exhibition of the webtoon "Save Me" in Times Square, NYC.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Also:

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 12 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

@FastilyBot: I have edited the file description page for the said files. I hope the explanation suffices the criterion. Thanks! —Nairb.Idi9 (talk)

Audio Sample Black Swan (song) edit

Hi. I would really really appreciate if you could upload an audio sample for "Black Swan (song)" like you did for Mic Drop (song) and Boy with Luv. I would be submitting it for a GA so I really need an audio file. Thank you for your time and consideration. --Ashleyyoursmile (talk) 15:13, 26 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Re: RTGS edit

Hi @Nairb.Idi9:! Re: RTGS for Girl Next Room OST, this actually came from the video itself as licensed on its video coming from GMMTV Records above the comment section. I would presume that would be the official RTGS to be used as discussed in Talk:GMMTV. — Emperork (talk) 05:37, 28 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Emperork: Oh, I see. I'm sorry, I was not aware of that. I just noticed that the romanized song titles seem to not follow the RTGS so I edited them (I have done the same to some song titles in 2gether: The Series). I am actually using a downloadable Thai RTGS romanization program created by the Siridhorn Thai Language Institute, which helps me check if the romanizations in the articles are correct. But I suppose GMMTV has set its official romanization of the song title. You can revert my edits if that is the case. Thanks for notifying me! —Nairb.Idi9 (talk)
@Nairb.Idi9: That's okay and thanks for your contribution. I'm also new to RTGS and sought help from those who are from WP Thailand and based on the discussion, as long as there is no official or prevalent RTGS indicated/used, then it should be safe to use those tools. Cheers! — Emperork (talk) 06:09, 28 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Nairb.Idi9: Hi! Just giving you a heads up that for Thai-related articles, just to conform with styling, dates will be on DMY format instead of MDY. Thanks! — Emperork (talk) 08:42, 15 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Revised Romanization of Korean edit

Hi, I would like to inform you that I have corrected the romanization you have reverted in A Love So Beautiful. According to the Revised Romanization of Korean:

  • A hyphen must be used in linguistic transliterations to denote syllable-initial ㅇ except at the beginning of a word: 없었습니다 → eobs-eoss-seumnida, 외국어 → oegug-eo, 애오개 → Ae-ogae
  • Proper nouns are capitalized.

Therefore, I corrected the romanization yet again. Please take note of the rules in future and constantly refer to the Revised Romanization of Korean when you are romanizing Korean words. Thank you! Calistacyq (talk) 00:41, 30 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Calistacyq: Hello! I would like to inform you that I do follow the rules in the Revised Romanization of Korean in romanizing Korean text and I have studied it carefully (In fact, I've have corrected many erroneous romanizations of Korean text across many Wikipedia pages, sometimes cross-referencing with outside official references and with Wiktionary). As for the capitalization of proper nouns, I admit the mistake. But I think you just have a different interpretation of the aforementioned rule regarding syllable-initial ㅇ.
I think that rule you mentioned is NOT applicable in the context of the article in question, since we are romanizing a Korean text only in ordinary contexts (standard Revised Romanization, i.e. transcription, representing the spoken word), not romanizing a Korean text for academic linguistic use (academic Revised Romanization, i.e. transliteration, representing the written text), for which the Revised Romanization has rules for both. What the rules of the Revised Romanization states is that, in ordinary contexts (transcription), hyphenation is only used optionally, especially in disambiguating syllables, e.g. the confusing romanization chingu could mean 친구chin-gu vs. 칭우→ching-u. This also applies to words with consecutive vowels that need disambiguation to prevent from being read incorrectly (e.g. the confusing romanization gaeul could mean 가을→ga-eul or 개울→gae-ul. There are a plethora of examples of this which I forgot, so I chose the one from the article.) But this optionality of hyphenation is not followed when working with academic works, particularly linguistics, for which transliterations are used. For academic papers dealing with Korean linguistics, that rule you quoted from the article now holds. Let me illustrate the difference between these two aspects of the Revised Romanization in the following table:
Korean text Standard Revised Romanization (transcription) Academic Revised Romanization (transliteration)
외국어 oegugeo oegug-eo
없었습니다 eopseotseumnida eobs-eoss-seubnida
한국어 han-gugeo hangug-eo
범인 beomin beom-in
열여덟 yeollyeodeol yeol-yeodeolb
연애 yeonae yeon-ae
I hope I have explained this as clear as possible.
So, the Korean text 아름다웠던 우리에게 is romanized as areumdawotdeon uriege (Since this is a title, thus Areumdawotdeon Uriege). Thank you! —Nairb.Idi9 (talk)
@Calistacyq: I suggest you look back again on the rules of the Revised Romanization of Korean. I looked on your contributions on Wikipedia and I noticed you have edited many Korean-related articles and, most probably, revised the romanizations. I have a feeling you have erroneously put hyphens in many of those romanizations, so please look back at the rules again and correct the unnecessary hyphenations you have made. Thank you once again! —Nairb.Idi9 (talk)
I'll just add something here about the hyphenation rules of the Revised Romanization of Korean for the standard case (transcription). Hyphenation is indeed for disambiguation purposes only, but it IS mandatory for the names of places in South Korea that are suffixed with administrative units, without reflecting phonetic changes (e.g. 충청북도→Chungcheongbuk-do, 삼죽면→Samjuk-myeon NOT Samjung-myeon). Other than these, and unless these are used in transliteration (academic romanization), hyphenation is ONLY for disambiguation of potentially confusing romanizations as aforementioned. —Nairb.Idi9 (talk)
@Nairb.Idi9: Hi! Thanks for clarifying. Someone had previously given me the misinformation to add a hyphen before characters with syllable-initial ㅇ (and he/she did that for K-drama title romanizations). I typically follow the table in the article for RR. However, since it doesn't show examples for vowels, I simply add a hyphen before characters with syllable initial ㅇ as I was told to. And yes, I know to use hyphens for places. We also have to add hyphen before and after a number (like, numerical, e.g. 1, 20, 300)! I doubt we should romanize numbers too (like, 1 becomes il/hana because in the first place, we don't know how they're actually meant to be pronounced in Korean). The rule is not found on Wikipedia but I found it online. I will take note of the whole transcription thing in future. In the meantime, I shall fix all my mistakes... Calistacyq (talk) 07:35, 31 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Calistacyq: Thank you for understanding, and enjoy editing! Happy New Year to you! Nairb.Idi9 (talk) 07:41, 31 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Nairb.Idi9: Thanks and Happy New Year to you too! Also, the hyphen for numerals thing is only for transcription from Hanja, I think. Sigh. Just ignore. Smh. Anyway, happy editing :) Calistacyq (talk) 07:53, 31 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

I removed the translation thinking that the title is simply a Koreanization of a foreign, i.e. non-Korean, word (e.g. "호텔 델루나", "빈센조", "스위트홈"), since I thought the lit= part of the template should contain a translation of true Korean word/s. But if I judged it incorrectly, you can revert my edit and I apologize in advance. Thank you! Nairb.Idi9 (talk) 10:44, 29 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Nairb.Idi9: It's usually the case but since it's the English Wikipedia I think it'd be good to have a translation of the title somewhere. I'll add it back since it's okay with you. :) -- Seokgjin (talk) 11:55, 29 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Seokgjin: Actually, I just found out that it actually IS Korean (it sounded like Italian or Spanish to me hahahaha). 나빌레라 nabillera is a combination of 나비 nabi "butterfly" and the word ending -ㄹ레라 -llera, which is used in Korean classical poetry as part of the Haera-che ("Formally impolite") speech level and indicates a guess or speculation. E.g. 찌르다 jjireuda + -ㄹ레라 -llera → 찌를레라 jjireullera.[ref] I learned something new today. Anyways, good day to you! —Nairb.Idi9 (talk) 13:39, 29 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Secret Playlist moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Secret Playlist, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ... discospinster talk 00:18, 1 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Noblesse Ep. 2.png edit

Thank you for uploading File:Noblesse Ep. 2.png.

Thank you. 67.220.13.96 (talk) 21:21, 14 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Flower Crew (disambiguation) edit

The article Flower Crew (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This disambiguation page contains the primary topic and one other topic for the ambiguous title and no other topics can be found within a reasonable time.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:02, 24 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
