Re

  1. Few, if any other lists do this. It is absurd to list a game four times. It's a waste of space, and when you're 100KB, you can't just use up space for EXTRAS.
  2. Well, I guess looking good is better than accessibility and quality. If there are no red links, it is that much harder to make an entirely linked list of games. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 21:08, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
So what you're saying is that because it "only" drops it 3kb, it's not worth it? 1kb drop is worth it if it means shrinking this article's incredibly large size. There is NO loss in information by removing the three extra Resistances - only the three extra dates, which this list doesn't even do! And your basic argument is that a minuscule difference between the four entries for Resistance is worth repeating it. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! List of RCTI personallities

Hi. I have tried to add the correct line to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2009 January 17 but it is coming up as a redlink. I cannot for the life of me figure out why. Davidelit (talk) 16:10, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

I just tried copying the line {{subst:afd3|pg=List of RCTI personallities}} from the box at the top of the List of RCTI personallities article but it's still a redlink. I guess if it's not working I'll have to ask somebody else to try, or withdraw the nomination.... Davidelit (talk) 16:42, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

I added it to the list manually this time, but it still isn't showing. Could you take a look? Cheers. —Cyclonenim (talk · contribs · email) 15:09, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi, sorry to bother you again. I see that you moved this page "to its correct location". Did I goof again? At the risk of asking a stupid question, what is the right location? And what did I do wrong? Hopefully next time I try AfDing you won't have to run around tidying up after me :-) Regards Davidelit (talk) 03:01, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

I noted that you had asked for the talk page of this page to be unprotected, since the page had become unprotected -- I also note that you tagged it for speedy deletion. I agreed with your tag and deleted the page and SALTed it, since I felt 12 speedy deletions in less than a year was considerably more than is usually allowed, and thus have taken the liberty of removing your request to unprotect the talk page since it cannot accompany the now-SALTed article. I trust I have understood what you wanted; if not, I'm at your service. Accounting4Taste:talk 01:25, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey, I don't think this article should have been speedily deleted. I've initiated a discussion about it here.--Pattont/c 13:07, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Could you please move that to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of American words not widely used in the United Kingdom (3rd nomination) Previous deletion discussions were here and here. Thanks, Valenciano (talk) 21:42, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

In the previous discussions the article *did have* the same title, it was just included with sister articles in an "omnibus" AFD nom. Please look again at the links above. Thanks, Valenciano (talk) 22:07, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
I think it's better to have it at (3rd nomination) as it's really the third time that the issue has been discussed but I'm going to bed now so I'll leave you to make the final call on that. All the best, Valenciano (talk) 22:19, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Dang you're fast

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/DJ Tilt

Hello, I see that you speedy non-admin closed the AfD on DJ Tilt. En lieu of further explanation from User:OlEnglish, I would appreciate it if you re-opened the AfD; I was going to PROD the article myself before OlEnglish prodded, then de-prodded, then AfD'd, then de-AfD'd the article in the span of less than ten minutes. It would be an excess of bureaucracy to open a second AfD immediately after the close of the first; re-opening the first is more efficient. Baileypalblue (talk) 03:53, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

WP:MfD

I was just following the instructions at [[Wikipedia:Deletion process#Miscellany for deletion page], item 6 which says "Remove the transclusion and place a wikilink for the discussion in the Closed Discussions section..." and item 6.3 which says "Convert the transcluded pages {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/foo:foo}} to bulleted links * [[Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/foo:foo]]." Also they would need to be changed back before they are moved to the archives at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Archived debates, which all use the bulleted Wikilink format. Sorry I had intended to mention it but got called away to help set up a new computer at work. It just seemed more work to use one format in the archives and another on the MfD page. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 06:29, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

No particular reason but it would be quite a bit of work to change all the archives. Also it would seem easier to change {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/foo:foo}} to * [[Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/foo:foo]] rather than *{{mfdl|foo/foo||yyyy-mm-dd|yyyy-mm-dd|action}}. Hi. The image you uploaded File:Hurrican Cover.jpg does not identify nor illustrate the game or program in its own article Hurrican (video game). I have reverted the image to File:Hurrican title.png in good faith, as the previous image File:Hurrican Cover.jpg portrays a cover for another computer game "Hurricane". Much regards. Mazera screenshot?

Hi, thanks for putting up the WP:VG template on Mazera. I notice that a screenshot is requested---I presume during gameplay as opposed to merely the title screen. There are a bunch of in-game screenshots on Astraware's website, and it's easy to upload one of them for use in this article, but what about copyright issues? I'm not that familiar with Wikipedia's policy on copyrighted images, except that the title page screenshot is OK because it is needed to identify the game. What's the usual convention on this? Would it be OK if I downloaded one of the screenshots posted by Astraware and reduced its resolution? Thanks.—Tetracube (talk) 16:38, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Thanks for fixing the header on nomination page for deletion. I didn't know why it happened. I really appreciate it. Parvazbato59 (talk) 19:01, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

  • Hello again. I have nominated another article for deletion and this IP user 63.26.21.136 is voting and giving opinions that can be counted as personal attack. Would you take a look at this page. Can IP users also vote? or only verified users? He is saying things like that my nomination for that article is my only focus based on my personal page?!?!?! This to me is rude and not true and can count as personal attack and does not look good for other people to see as I have nominated other pages as well. What should I do? Just leave it alone? Thanks alot. Parvazbato59 (talk) 16:02, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

AFD nomination problem

Hi. I nominated this article for AFD through automatic AFD nomination under toolbox, however it seems that when I did that, it did nominate it, but did not add it under the the list of articles for deletion for April 12th which is the date I nominated it. I am afraid if I add it again to the list, there will two AFD nomination pages. So what should I do now? Every time that I use this automated AFD, it gives me a hard time. I appreciate if you help me on that. Thanks. Parvazbato59 (talk) 15:59, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

I added it to the list. It seems to be fine. Please correct it if you think it is incorrect. I wish I did it in the morning, it is too late now. Thanks anyway Parvazbato59 (talk) 19:00, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Misfit Model 3d Video games tag

May I ask why you removed the Video games wikiproject tag from Misfit Model 3d? Misfit can model for Quake 2/3, making it at the very least slightly relevant. As a comparison, Blender, which to my knowledge (and to it own article) has nothing to do with games except that it can model for them (it's Game Blender that's the video game engine), also has a video game wikiproject tag. And if the tag should be removed, shouldn't Misfit also be removed from this template, because the template deals only with video games? --DanielPharos (talk) 07:39, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks! Also, I see you added that 'id Software task force' tag. I didn't know that existed! I'll start adding it to other articles that should have it. --DanielPharos (talk) 12:01, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Yes. If they're two different products, and they're not notable enough to have their own articles, then they can't justify two non-free images. Black Kite 23:10, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Newsletter interview

MrKIA11- The next issue of the VG newsletter is coming out soon and if we're going to run with the new format we need an interview for the "Featured editor" segment. Interested? (Guyinblack25 talk 03:12, 12 June 2009 (UTC))

I think it would make an interesting feature, but it's cool if you don't want to. I've always thought that you were the perfect example of a Wikipedian that didn't have to edit articles to be a good contributor. I think the project would slowly fall apart without the background stuff you do, and feel the rest of the project should know that as well. Would you be open to an interview for an issue down the road? (Guyinblack25 talk 14:46, 12 June 2009 (UTC))
Alright. I'll keep you mind for future issues. Thanks. (Guyinblack25 talk 14:53, 12 June 2009 (UTC))

Re: Agent Hugo series

Having all the covers would be an excessive use of non-free images, somewhat on the same reasoning List of Final Fantasy compilation albums doesnt have the album art for each album. Also i thought the empty sections for each game didnt give much to the layout of the article. Also lastly most series articles dont have infoboxs with images for the individual games. Well thats only my ideas, maybe if you dont feel i justified myself it could be questioned at the wikiproject to reach a consensus because ive done this to a few articles now. Family Feud

Per our non-free image policies, multiple non-free images are only used in articles if they are necessary to significantly increase the reader's understanding. Multiple covers of games (or music albums) rarely pass this criteria, unless the covers themselves are notable (example: Electric Ladyland). Black Kite 12:59, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

  • In most cases, yes. And yes, I know there are still many violations - unfortunately it's a slow process wading through many hundreds - indeed thousands - of articles, and sometimes even finding them in the first place if they're not categorized properly. Black Kite 13:06, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

I had originally added a larger image to the article, and was asked to find a smaller one because non-free images of this type should be as small and low-res as possible. I have therefore reverted your addition of the larger image, and it should probably be deleted as an unnecessarily hi-res image. (You can see this in the history of File:Proskibox.jpg.) Congratulations!

Congratulations! Now the real torture fun begins!

Let me be the first to congratulate you on your (imminent) adminship! Here are some infallible[citation needed] rules you should know right off the bat about adminship:

  1. You will always protect The Wrong Version.
  2. Always remember to assume good faith and not to bite the newcomers. You know when you're applying these behavioral guidelines diligently when the user(s) you're applying them to is a vandal, spammer, sock puppet, troll, or all of the above.
  3. When you block a user, people will complain. When you decide not to block a user, people will complain.
  4. When you delete a page, people will complain. When you decide not to delete a page, people will complain.
  5. Always use clear and descriptive language when explaining someone to user who may not be aware of something.
  6. Don't delete the Main Page. That mildly irritates some people.

There's always Adminship for Dummies if you wish to look up something about how the administrator functions work. Try and get familiar with the appropriate admin-related policies, such as banhammering, nuking, protecting, and general practice. You can also ask me or any other admin if you have any questions, and we'll be happy to help out. We promise not to bite the newbie admins. MuZemike 23:09, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Nice one for getting the same number of supports in both your RfAs (51). ;) Congratulations on passing your RfA: here's a new shirt, it's a good one...though it's been some time since I've given one out. Best. Acalamari 03:18, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Congrats! Well done, and if you need any advice, feel free to drop me a message! GedUK  08:58, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Of course you passed with flying colours! Now at least I don't need to feel guilty about nominating you prematurely last year. I'm sure that gave you all sorts of unsolicited grief, sorry about that :) Having observed your contributions closely for several years now, I certainly feel you'll be an extremely worthy admin. RfA Thanks

I don't suppose you noticed that you actually gave the wrong link out? You gave everyone links to your failed RfA, not the one just passed. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 13:37, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps he was trying to rub it in the noses of the people who opposed him last time? That would make sense according to Occam's razor, at least. JACOPLANE • 2009-12-10 14:15
I was just coming to say the same thing. I read "Passed Rfa" and clicked link to "Rfa that did not succeed" and said "Wha?"--v/r - TP 14:26, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Hey, we're dealing in conspiracy theories here! Who are you to introduce a rational argument into the discussion? JACOPLANE • 2009-12-10 16:59
Oh, my apologies. It has become clear to me that your RfA link was merely a casualty of the war between the space marines and the cyborg dinosaurs. I've set up a triage centre for other maimed links and wounded punctuation. May god help us all... --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 17:33, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I just noticed that. I did preview the first time, but I didn't think to check the link. It was blue, so it seemed fine. But thanks for noticing! MrKIA11 (talk) 17:43, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Dusan Stanojevic

I do not understand your deletion of that under the G1 criterion. A7 would fit, but it was certainly not patent nonsense. (Serbo-Croatian language is not nonsense.) Can you explain, please? LadyofShalott 17:59, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

I don't know any systematic way to check. It just looked like probably another language rather than random typing to me. The way it looked, combined with the name itself made me guess likely Croatian or Serbian, and so I tried pasting the text into translate.google.com and got an imperfect translation that was enough to see that there was no indication of notability. If are unsure, you can always stick a {{tl:notenglish|unknown}} on the page, where unknown indicates that you have no idea what language it might be. LadyofShalott 18:10, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

"Electra Records"

I, for one, feel that the best way to educate users who do not know the proper spelling of Elektra Records is to avoid useless, misspelled redirects; and rather leave no alternative but the correct, legally binding spelling. I eradicated "Parlaphone" from WP, because the record label is Parlophone. I see no difference here, and "Electra Records" will be a memory soon enough. Thank you for your time :> Doc9871 (talk) 13:04, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

I've responded to your reply on my talk page. I realize that you are an administrator, which makes me more curious as to why one would feel that perpetuating a misspelling somehow aids one that doesn't know the correct spelling. The only way to educate a reader on the correct spelling is to eliminate the incorrect spellings and redirects, especially of actively operating corporations like Elektra (that have the ability to sue if they wanted to). Please help me understand the reasoning behind keeping Electra Records, rather than eliminate it like Parlaphone was... Doc9871 (talk) 13:37, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Me again! (yippee, right? :>) Hopefully you're watching my talk page, as I completed the task of eliminating the false information from WP entirely. Now how's about getting rid of what now truly amounts to a useless, pointless, and misinforming "redirect' page? I don't want to have to go through this again, pleeeeeease... Doc9871 (talk) 07:24, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Sorry for any remarks I made that may have been interpreted as negative. I always maintained that your new status as an administrator bore no more or less weight with me than if you a grey-bearded hanging judge admin ;> I always respected (and continue to respect) your authority and educated WP opinion, and again I'm sorry if I made any overly sarcastic remarks.
As I'm sure you've seen on my talk page, I have been "set straight" on the issue. Sorry for any misunderstandings. Cheers... Doc9871 (talk) 14:19, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Not so fast next time, please

I created a page on a software product, with the intention of making a good page. I wrote some text to change it later, went to look for some good references and citations, then when I went back to the page to improve it, you had already deleted it after less than 5 minutes. I am very fond of Wikipedia but I am not a frequent editor. I have often thought I should contribute more to Wikipedia but, after this, I think I will use my time on other things.--Eschatoon (talk) 19:15, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Polish Footballer of the Year

Polish Footballer of the Year shouldn't rediredt to article about "Piłka nożna" magazine plebiscite, because the player was voted only by journalists from "Piłka Nożna" magazine. In this year they choose Mariusz Lewadnowski which is very controversial choice. Many web sites and people in commentaries are laughing about it.

Today was another award ceremony Polish Football Oscars. Footballer of the year award was voted by footballers from Polish Ekstraklasa. And Lewandowski wasn't in the best 3 nominated players.

In Polish there is more Footballer of the year plebiscites like "Sport" magazine which is voted since 1966 by readers of this magazine, and can be voted on web site currently.

"Piłka nożna" magazine plebiscite is most biassed plebiscite, only few jouralists of this magazine is voting, so the article about their choices shouldn't be named as "Polish Footballer of the year".--Oleola (talk) 22:45, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Hello and good morning. Someone tagged this article A1 which you deleted soon afterwards. While this article probobly deserved deletion, I strong disagree that it was an A1 candidate. I quickly was able to identify the subject based on the information as a slim netbook. Gabi Hernandez

Hi MrKIA11! If you're like me, you may have noticed in your watchlist that this redlink has turned blue again. The reason for this is that I declined a speedy deletion nomination of this recently recreated article, because it is not eligible for speedy deletion under criterion A7 (or any other criterion for that matter), as said criterion does not apply to fictional characters. This may be difficult to distinguish sometimes, but looking at the deleted revision, it is clear that the article is not about a real person. Regards, decltype (talk) 07:31, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Winters page deletion

Hello - the Winters Instruments page was deleted. I felt that the information was non-biased, listed corporate information like locations and business activities, and a history of how the company was formed. This is a company that has been in business for 56 years and well-established in Canada. It also operates in 3 other countries. Could you please shed some light to which part was deemed "ambiguous advertising"? I am willing to edit the article if you can advise (at this point, I cannot edit as the article is deleted with no log). Thank you. Winmktg (talk) 17:35, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Can I restore the article? The team is definitely notable and it shouldn't have been speedy eligible (especially since it did have context). I don't understand what happened to my fellow WikiProject NASCAR member User:D-Day. He keeps nominating lower NASCAR teams for speedy deletion even though they should be allowed to have articles. I once promoted a DYK article for a baseball pitcher who pitched one big league inning, which is less notable than these teams are. If I do a quick google search, I immediately find reliable sources from Sports Illustrated [1] and the Detroit News [2] on the first page. Royalbroil 04:54, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

PMS CLAN

Hi there. You deleted the PMS Clan page recently. In the talk section there was shown to be quite a lot of problems with the balance of the text bias. Initially it was mainly factual and it was then seen as not deemed to be worthy of having a page, and narrowly avoided a deletion. There was quite a big disccusion and defense about the clan being note worthy. It was then re-written to show that the PMS Clan was indeed well known, and included some facts and made it a little more fame worthy, but then the page was seen to be as 'advertsing'. It is quite hard to win when trying to write it well and keep the balance. Still I would like to have a go. How do I go about finding the original text just to help me re-write it? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.176.105.56 (talk) 12:53, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Since I can't see the article myself, I'm just guessing here, but if this is about Pandora's Mighty Soldiers, then, as much as I despise clans built with the idea of being a single gender only, they probably are notable for creating the multiplayer section in the Halo 3: ODST strategy guide. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 12:59, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Hey, good morning. Thanks for your helping in fixing my first Wikipedia article. I saw that it has been score a 'Stub'. What does it mean? Should I invest more time in it? I thought this article (although "Low Importance") may be a good opportunity for me to get some hands-on experience before writing more articles. Your word of advice is much appreciated. Deletion of Barbara Ovstedal

Hello! You deleted the article Barbara Ovstedal writing "expired prod", but the prod was contested, and the article was expanded (by me) and the template was removed (by another user). This resulted in the article disappearing without notice. I'm sure it was a mistake. I asked another admin to restore it. Just wanted to let you know. Happy editing! --Bensin (talk) 15:04, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

I stand corrected! You are right. Seems I forgot to remove the dated prod. Nevertheless I think it's a good idea to review the article before deleting it, just to see what's been added (in this case a bibliography). --Bensin (talk) 17:19, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Note that the following files are rarely sound, image, or video: .doc, .pdf, .ps, .html, .rtf, .txt, .xls, and .zip files. Examples of image, sound, and video files are: .jpg, .gif, .mpg, and .wav. re: Darius Gaiden

that was more directed at what happened to Darius:

the Darius article originally had that poster, the Darius Gaiden poster; I thought it would be better to upload the Darius poster and replace on the Darius article and then take the Gaiden poster and replace the cover art on the Darius Gaiden article with it

there's not much explanation for the latter other than "hey I like arcade posters better than port covers" (though it's for obvious reasons), but that was the plan I thought up before I even went through with the switch (i.e. I did not know Darius Gaiden had the Saturn cover art up) and I didn't feel like stopping

so if someone wants to switch the Gaiden poster back to a cover, I can't really stop you, but I'd reeeeaaaaally rather someone not Elm-39 - T/C/N 21:12, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
