Hey, articles on wikipedia that cover albums generally do not use quotes. Fopkins | Talk 07:31, 15 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Not sure how to respond to this. Do you mean quotes around the song titles? In which case it seems quite normal especially when other information is included i.e. - songwriter - length of track.

  • Sorry for the confusion. The titles of album articles do not usually include quotations. Fopkins | Talk 23:22, 15 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Do you mean I mistakenly created a article/page for an album with the name of the album in quotes?

Yes, I tagged it for deletion, and it was deleted. I was just letting you know why it was deleted. Fopkins | Talk 15:59, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that. I am a bit of a newbie here.

Hi Memphisto. I've restored this image and added a {{promotional}} tag. You'll still need to add a fair use rationale, or it can be deleted in 7 days. Ex-Tea Sea chronological discography edit

Please note my entries on discussion pages for the articles I modified. I agree the XTC catalog need be updated. I believe their comps and outtakes are of importance in and of themselves and should be included in the chronology. If they are merely cash-ins (Hmm... the Who, Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello ...) can see an argument against including them. I do not believe this is the case with XTC. Their comps and odds-and-sods are Notable, and should be included in their discography. Let me know what you think.--Fantailfan 23:15, 21 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Red Box (band) edit

Hi Memphisto

Thanks for the message. I wanted to help give RB as much of a presence on Wikipedia as possible, gathering together all available info. on the band (ain't much) in one place for anyone wondering why the albums are still unavailable, and for those able to facilitate their re-release (should they come looking). Every little helps. I've re-edited the discography sub-headings to keep the bottom end of the page from becoming too cluttered, but your additions (and the album entries) look superb.

Once again, thanks for the message, it's much appreciated.

AfD nomination of Motive (album) edit

An editor has nominated Motive (album), an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Motive (album) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 18:08, 31 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Sperm Warfare edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Sperm Warfare, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

WP:NALBUMS : All articles on albums, singles or songs must meet the basic criteria at the notability guidelines, with significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject.

General notability guideline : "Significant coverage" means that sources address the subject directly in detail, and no original research is needed to extract the content. Significant coverage is more than trivial but may be less than exclusive.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Greetings edit

Hello, I noticed you had done some editing on the XTC article. I was the person who secured the first band photo, but I feel it is probably not accurate, a mixture of band members and fans. However, another professional photographer took lots of group and individual photos of the members of the band. Would you be able to identify the particular members? If so, I can upload free images to be used in the band article and also for the band members' pages. Please let me know. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 21:45, 20 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Greetings! Maybe I can help you? Or you, me! edit

Hi M- I wrote you some time ago, about XTC. I came here to see if you can identify photos from a batch on Flickr, and if you can, --there's maybe 8 photos in the bunch, I can ask the photographer for release under the Creative Commons CC-BY-SA license to Wikimedia Commons, making them useable for any of the articles we have here. After arriving here, I noticed you're having "issues" with the "Powers that Be" here (to speak politely)!! I went through a lot of frustration trying to see deserving biographies of musicians here get photos- took me over a year (or two), but I have the "free image" concept down mostly from Flickr to Commons. I only started keeping track of my uploads, all of which I place some months ago; see the vast list of names in my userpage. Another editor, and friend, Suede67 is good with the non-free uploads. Feel free to check my talk page to find his posts and thus, contact him. Ask him for help with those uploads- he's a good teacher, and quite methodical. I can help you find the free images and show you how to get them to Commons, even if they're copyright protected for now. Speak up, and help is here, if you want it. Cheers!--Leahtwosaints (talk) 23:47, 9 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi. It would seem that for some time you have been listing files uploaded by Rodolpho for deletion. Some of these seem to have been on invalid grounds, and others for technical violations whereas the actual images are valid provided the licencing was listed correctly. I must ask exactly what is going on here? Deleting valid files, or working to have them deleted, when some other editor is attempting to create legitimate articles containing legitimate images is not good faith editing and is not appropriate on wikipedia. Your John Clark edits edit

Ok, so you are now in an editing war. I suggest before you take any further action, you do what is plainly stated as Wikipedia policy, that is, to discuss on the talk page. If you look there, you will see that Will Beback has comments, yet has not edited the page. He is an administrator. You are not. Your edits suggest to me that you are in the Lynn Redgrave camp, and if you are, then you are editing from your POV. 3 Lynn Redgrave obits, where I am spoken of disparagingly, on the John Clark page? Delete the mention that my son married the mother of this child to get her a green card? This fact was filed in court. The press continues to push that this was a true marriage, which makes me look like a berk, and I will not allow that impression to continue unchallenged. I'm also doing this for the kid's sake. He deserves better treatment.
Why don't you come out of hiding, and reveal your true identity? JohnClarknew (talk) 16:52, 2 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

It is policy that before editing a page, discussion of the proposed edits take place on the talk page. Why don't you do this at John Clark (actor/director)? For example, it is plain that Redgrave filed for divorce from Clark. You delete this, and substitute that the marriage was dissolved. Your editing lacks NPOV, as essential when editing, as it is when writing an article. Why run the risk of being blocked? JohnClarknew (talk) 17:23, 3 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Moving Delirious? songs based on some naming convention edit

What convention is that? I was just in discussion with them about something that would break this supposed naming convention and no one said anything against it. Could you please point-out this convention? --Walter Görlitz (talk) 16:48, 22 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

I don't see it. You moved several things that were correctly disambiguated to things where they didn't need to be.
When necessary, disambiguation should be done using "(band)", "(album)", or "(song)" (such as Anthrax (band) or Off the Wall (album)). Use further disambiguation only when needed (for example X (American band), X (Australian band)). Unless multiple albums of the same name exist (such as Down to Earth), they do not need to be disambiguated any further.
Nowhere does it say that the song or album must contain the band's name. Only that if necessary you make disambiguation.
For instance, you moved Deeper (song) to Deeper (Delirious? song). There are not multiple songs named Deeper so there is no need to disambiguate the song from others. Please change it all back. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 18:30, 22 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

There are multiple songs called "Deeper" - Deeper (Delirious? song) and Deeper (Boss song). This is also why I have made Deeper (song) a disambiguation page. memphisto 18:39, 22 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy-deletion of templates edit

You have recently tagged a number of templates for deletion under speedy-deletion criterion T2, generally with the edit summary that With only [two] articles to navigate too - this Navbox musical artist serves no useful function. I have declined those speedy-nominations for two reasons.

  1. CSD#T2 is restricted to those templates which make false representations about Wikipedia policy. The templates you were tagging made no representation about policy at all. T2 does not apply.
  2. The assessment that a template "serves no useful function" is a subjective opinion. And while that may be a valid reason to eventually delete a page from Wikipedia, it is far too subjective a criterion to use for speedy-deletion. Questions of usefulness must be evaluated by multiple editors to confirm that there is consensus to delete the page.

If you still feel those pages should be deleted, I recommend that you compose a nomination at Wikipedia:Templates for deletion. Thanks for your cooperation. Rossami (talk) 16:06, 7 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

File:Frederica von Stade - Mahler Songs - Album Cover.jpg edit

You removed the image File:Frederica von Stade - Mahler Songs - Album Cover.jpg from the article Frederica von Stade. The article contains the following sentence: "Her LP album of Mahler songs was praised as "cherishable" by Peter G. Davis of The New York Times." Does this not constitute critical commentary of the album in question? --Robert.Allen (talk) 07:10, 22 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

I assume you are referring to criterion 3a which reads: "Minimal usage. Multiple items of non-free content are not used if one item can convey equivalent significant information." I interpreted this to mean (perhaps incorrectly) that an additional image of the album, such as, an image of an insert or an image of the back of the album, should not added to the Wikipedia, if the image of the front of the album is sufficient, and does not say that the same image cannot be used on more than one page, if it meets the other criteria. This interpretation is consistent with the wording of criterion 8: "One-article minimum. Non-free content is used in at least one article." In this case, the additional usage meets criterion 8 (contextual significance), since the image enhances understanding not only of the critical commentary about this specific album, but also the fact that Frederica von Stade, who is the topic of the page, is a critically successful recording artist. In my view, the fact that there is no image of the singer on the page does not appear to be relevant. The addition of an image of the singer would not preclude the use of the album image on the page, and the absence of an image of the singer shouldn't either. --Robert.Allen (talk) 18:05, 22 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
There is also criterion 10c: "The name of each article (a link to each article is also recommended) in which fair use is claimed for the item, and a separate, specific non-free use rationale for each use of the item, as explained at Wikipedia: Non-free use rationale guideline. The rationale is presented in clear, plain language and is relevant to each use." This seems to allow for using the item on more than one page. Perhaps I did not write the justification for the second usage in the second rationale clearly enough. I get the impression that you consider any second usage to have more stringent criteria. I'm not sure when any second usage would be allowed under your interpretation. --Robert.Allen (talk) 18:13, 22 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have reverted your deletion from Talk:Short Stack#Reasons for DB-band as it did not appear to comply with WP:TPO. If you disagree, please discuss it here or over there. Please note that your deletion is also being discussed at Wikipedia:Notability/Noticeboard#Short Stack Article - Request for speedy deletion marked as Vandalism, although the main thrust of that discussion is the notability of the article and its nomination for speedy deletion. Short Stack edit

You wrote on my Talk page:
Hi HairyWombat, User:180.148.124.237's addition of a speedy delete to the Short Stack article was an obvious case of vandalism, as were the user's nonsensical statements on the talk page. If you feel the need to revert this, then fine. I'm just glad this article has now been semi-protected for a while. memphisto 21:57, 15 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Did you read Talk:Short Stack#Reasons for DB-band where I wrote, "The nomination of the article for speedy deletion was therefore inappropriate.", or Wikipedia:Notability/Noticeboard#Short Stack Article - Request for speedy deletion marked as Vandalism where I wrote, "Your [User:180.148.124.237's] nomination of the article for speedy deletion was clear vandalism. Please desist."? As for removing stuff from Talk pages, the guidelines for this are very clear and can be found at WP:TPO. (If you wish to respond, please do so here.) I wrote on your Talk page:
Yes, of course I had read it all and I understand Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. My first thoughts (which I still stand by) were that this IP is a troll, and that was why I also deleted their nonsensical statements on the talk page. memphisto 09:21, 16 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
With regard to the article being marked for speedy deletion, we are agreed that that was clear vandalism. With regard to deteting stuff from the Talk page you wrote above, "If you feel the need to revert this, then fine." It would seem this matter is closed. Please be very careful about re-adding something just because the previous edit was tagged, "references removed". That information was sourced to a blog, which is never a reliable source per WP:BLP. Web-presence links edit

Hi. I'm not sure if you are watch-listing a page where the debate (on an issue you became involved with yesterday) is progressing—so I'll provide the link here: Talk:Britney_Spears#External_links. No doubt there will have to be some sort of middle-ground approach, but I feel that the editors who are pushing for the removal of all web-presence links have moved too far to one end of the scale, and are using the "rules" in too literal a manner. Anyhow, I've had my $0.02 worth there. Cheers. GFHandel   22:15, 9 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

John Lewis edit

The main reason I reverted the edits was due to the lack of citation. When I put unbelievable it was with regard to the type of fact added. If it had been something along the lines of "John Lewis plans to open a new store", it would be more believable to the casual reader. However, the relatively obscure nature of the edit would lead most to believe that the edit was untrue, especially in conjunction with the absence of references or citations. Shaun Diviney edit

Please don't remove WikiProject Biography from talk pages of bands. Band articles usually talk about the band members and their lives. If a person is not notable outside the band, the only place to talk about a band member is the band's article.

Also, adding "music-group=yes" in the biography banner puts the article into WikiProject Musicians, where "... a project to better organize information in articles related to Musicians and Musical ensembles/Bands." This is the only way to add an article to WikiProject Musicians. Bgwhite (talk) 07:36, 29 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

If the redirect has a talk page, the put class=redirect in the banner, not remove the banner. Bgwhite (talk) 07:39, 29 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
"Please don't remove WikiProject Biography from talk pages of bands." I removed it from a redirect.
And you might want to undo you recent edit to the Short Stack article - Category:Living people! memphisto 07:45, 29 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
It's Wiki etiquette to keep the conversation in one spot.
Did you not read above. There is a reason class=redirect exists. It is for this very reason. Most times, the talk page can also be redirect to the other articles talk page. But since there is a AfD message, it can't. So you add class=redirect. Bgwhite (talk) 07:52, 29 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
I. Again, I didn't remove the Biography category from an article - I removed it from a redirect.
II. Category:Living people should never appear in an article about a band.
III. This may be your idea of "wiki etiquette", mine would be not making ridiculous edits and then posting nonsensical comments on other peoples talk pages. memphisto 09:47, 29 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
I. Please stop removing WP Biography on the redirect. I have never said an article, only you have. As I have said above, on a redirect, IF there is a talk page, use class=redirect inside the biography banner. Again, there is a reason why class=redirect exists. I have shown you there is a class=redirect. It is also listed on Template:Grading scheme Now, if you have proof, then show it. Otherwise leave it alone.
II. Nowhere above is "Living people should never appear in an article about a band." mentioned. This discussion is about the redirects. Please keep a discussion listed in the same spot per WP:MULTI.
III. Try not to demean or ridicule another editor... please keep things civil. Bgwhite (talk) 21:55, 29 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Memphisto asked for advice on my talk page; I'll reply here. As far as I can see, the talk page of the redirect cannot redirect because of the AfD notice. Thus, the WikiProject banner on that page seems reasonable. ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 20:16, 7 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Template:Anticon edit

Your recent editing history at Template:Anticon shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. 114.164.142.128 (talk) 22:18, 31 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for trying to keep Wikipedia free of vandalism. However, one or more edits you labeled as vandalism are not considered vandalism under Wikipedia policy. Wikipedia has a stricter definition of the word "vandalism" than common usage, and mislabeling edits as vandalism can discourage newer editors. Please read Wikipedia:NOTVAND for more information on what is and is not considered vandalism. Thank you. duffbeerforme (talk) 03:28, 26 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Plastic edit

Have you tried to discuss the notability of these articles with the IP? I've seen Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Special When Lit (album), but haven't come across anything else yet.  —SMALLJIM  16:22, 27 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Smalljim, Just to let you know that the blanking of these articles is not limited to just the IP 114.145.146.143, the related IPs 114.145.24.94, 114.145.174.2, 114.164.216.48, 114.164.64.248, 114.150.82.38 have been involved too. memphisto 16:24, 27 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

I know. Would you please try to discuss the matter with him at the current IP's talk page. Thanks.  —SMALLJIM  16:27, 27 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

I should also point you towards Strings (Arthur Loves Plastic album), which is another article blanked by the anonymous ip range before being nominated for deletion. memphisto 16:40, 27 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'm not really interested in how we got here. What matters is that editors shouldn't edit war - we discuss problems. Please try to initiate a discussion on the above IP talk page. If there's no response to your approach, well, that will say something about the other editor.  —SMALLJIM  16:51, 27 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
In fact he's added something there now. It's up to you to respond, I think. You do need to show that these albums are notable; it doesn't seem to me to be very clear that they are, but I'm not going to get involved in that aspect.  —SMALLJIM  16:56, 27 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for trying to engage the IP in discussion. Hopefully he will respond to you in due course. Although I don't condone his method of raising issues with the articles, he has expressed valid concerns about their notability. Are there actually any independent reliable sources that show that these album articles have sufficient notability of their own?  —SMALLJIM  22:40, 27 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Memphisto! As a Steward I'm involved in the upcoming unification of all accounts organized by the Wikimedia Foundation (see m:Single User Login finalisation announcement). By looking at your account, I realized that you don't have a global account yet. In order to secure your name, I recommend you to create such account on your own by submitting your password on Special:MergeAccount and unifying your local accounts. If you have any problems with doing that or further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 17:01, 18 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

The file File:Bright Lights, Big City (Soundtrack).jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-free album cover being used in a decorative manner in Bright Lights, Big City (film)#Soundtrack. Non-free album cover art is generally allowed to be used for primary identification purposes in stand-alone articles about albums, but its use in other articles is generally only allowed when the cover art itself is the subject of sourced critical commentary as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3 and the context for non-free use required by WP:NFCC#8 is evident. There is no such commentary for this particular album cover anywhere in the article, and the use of soundtrack album cover art in articles about films or TV programs is generally not allowed for this reason as explained in WP:FILMSCORE.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:59, 26 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Pork Pies edit

Not sure what to make of this pork pie serving business. I reverted you at Pork Pie then self-reverted shortly after when coming across this source which says "room temperature". To my knowledge that is just a recommendation for taste quality rather than a direction. I for one admit to liking them fresh out of the fridge and I thought everyone else did. Given pies are refrigerated food, I would have thought one has the choice here and so there is no need to tell in the opening line how one should eat it. --Rice not spice (talk) 02:33, 1 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Ta for the Blancmange album ad edit

In re-reading it afterwards, I realized the new album count is actually 8 when you include the Happy Families remake, so as I was rewording and fixing that I ended up rewriting most of the front section. I also made mention of the Fader and Near Future albums (which were/are down in the article also.) Maybe we could add those into the grid as well, with "as (group name)" in them? Just a thought, not of vital importance - but since you succeeded where I failed with that...lol. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.224.73.221 (talk) 14:44, 9 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of The Human Factor (song) edit

The article The Human Factor (song) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not satisfy WP:NSONG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. – DarkGlow • 23:23, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
