Autopatrolled granted

Hi Mccapra, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the patroller right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 10:12, 26 June 2017 (UTC)

I have removed the autopatrolled, as there were copyright violations detected in May and again today. Sorry, — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 19:51, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

2 Samuel 23

Hey, I saw your edit to 2 Samuel 23. What makes you think it's been proposed for deletion? I searched at AfD and didn't find anything, and the page is lacking the usual banner that indicates a deletion discussion is going on. Is there some deletion process I'm not aware of? Alephb (talk) 07:46, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

Hi if you look on the "view history" page for that article, you'll see that the PROD template has already been taken off by the editor who created the article, so it's no longer up for deletion. Mccapra (talk) 08:25, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
Oh okay. Understood. I'll check history next time. Thanks. Alephb (talk) 08:32, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

October 2017

Hello, I'm SummerPhDv2.0. I noticed that you made a change to an article, List of Berklee College of Music alumni, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. SummerPhDv2.0 11:55, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. At the moment I'm working systematically through orphan articles from 2009 to try and link them to others. The article Eddie Chow links to Berklee College of Music and says he is an alumnus, but does not provide a source. For this reason I think I'll leave it reverted as per your edit and move on to others. All the best Mccapra (talk) 12:04, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Deprodding of Johnny Judge Gallery

I have removed the {{proposed deletion/dated}} tag from Johnny Judge Gallery, which you proposed for deletion, because its deletion has previously been contested or viewed as controversial. Proposed deletion is not for controversial deletions. For this reason, proposed deletion is disallowed on articles that have previously been de-prodded, even by the page's creator, or which have previously been listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{proposed deletion}} template back to the article, but feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! —KuyaBriBriTalk 19:36, 4 November 2017 (UTC)

Deorphaning

Hi Mccapra.

Dear fellow deorphaner. I see you are very active in processing orphan articles. Thank you.

If I may, I would like to offer some suggestions. I see you are putting a large number of articles into attempted categories. It may be possible to actually deorphan a lot of these relatively easily. For example, all the painted-wing fly species articles you tagged as attempted I believe I have been able to deorphan along with many more at the same time, a total of 299. A couple of others I briefly looked at at random, for example, Caroline Gibello could perhaps go into List of women photographers, Juan García Rodenas could perhaps go into List of Spaniards#Literature. Sorry but simply moving large numbers of articles from one orphan category to another orphan category does not really achieve what we need to. My experience is that finding lists can be difficult sometimes due to non-standard naming conventions sometimes, but very often a list can be found. (I often resort to lists, outlines, or indexes, but an information content type article is always better.)

I noticed there are some other species related articles in the attempted categories too. I will try and look at these in bulk over the next couple of days.

Regards. Eno Lirpa (talk) 15:02, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi Eno. I agree that many of the articles I've tagged as attempted will be possible for another editor to de-orphan, perhaps easily. That depends on the editor's understanding of context and their knowledge of possible other articles to link to them. I appreciate this because around 600 of the articles I've successfully de-orphaned have been articles tagged as attempted by an earlier editor. Like you, I've found most of these pretty easy to de-orphan. I've certainly discovered things as I go along, so that there are articles I could easily de-orphan now which would have defeated me a month or two ago.

I managed to de-orphan more than 100 species of Scarabidae beetles by adding links to the article on the genus. My problem with the painted-wing flies was that the genus is enormous and divided into sub-tribes, and although the individual stub articles mentioned the genus, they did not mention the tribe. Therefore I couldn't accurately locate them in the taxonomy. Well done if you've managed to solve that one!

If I tag something as attempted, it's not a statement that it can't be de-orphaned by someone else. It's just a record of the fact that I had a go at it, and for one reason or another, couldn't see what to do with it.

All the best Mccapra (talk) 15:59, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

I will attempt tag articles too. However, I usually do not do so on the first attempt. I come back to the article several weeks or more later. This then allows others who are working through the main orphan categories to more easily see that it is still an orphan, and it gives me time to get more orphan experience for the subsequent attempt. Regards. Eno Lirpa (talk) 21:59, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

Global Hunger Alliance

Looking at the PRODed version of Global Hunger Alliance, its history, and online sources, with the hindsight of 2017, it's rather questionable how real the alliance was. The level of web documentation "expected" for any group claiming to be an organised group was much weaker during 2002-2006 than it is today (excepting the internet-poorer 50% or so of the world). On the other hand, repression against activist organisations could be invoked as a reason why in the 2002 photo (see pattrice jones refs in the GHA paragraph) there are only nine people (presumably pattrice + eight others), to protect the others' identities. It could also be an example of the ephemeral nature of online-supported networking and the frequent growth and disappearance of various networks among activists. At least three well-established groups (internal Wikipedia links in the pattrice jones paragraph) are claimed to have been in the network; they do not seem to have given it much prominence in their own online documentation, but someone interested could contact those three organisations for more wikipedia-acceptable information sources.

In any case, I think the merge that I've done should be uncontroversial. Boud (talk) 23:12, 5 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi there! Could you please explain to me your process for de-orphaning articles. I have seen a couple of them and frankly don't understand. Cheers, --SVTCobra (talk) 03:23, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) (technically I'm here because I watchlisted the Orphanage talk page not this page but same difference) SVTCobra, if you have a look at their contribs links, and the "what links here" pages of the orphans in question, Mccapra is clearly adding links to the orphaned articles to other articles, and then removing the orphan tag. Their process is very clear and perfectly normal (it mirrors my own almost exactly). ♠PMC(talk) 04:03, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi, just to let you know, if you see an article that duplicates the content of another article again, like in Original 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution, you can nominate it for speedy deletion under criterion WP:A10, so the duplicate article can be dealt with quickly instead of having to wait a week or more when WP:PROD is used. Mozambique sports teams

Hi, although your effort is commendable, are you aware that the links that you "de-orphanize" of Mozambican sports team are for teams that do not actually exist? I hope to get the time some day to delete all those phony articles, but maybe you could also do some background checking...anyway, good work! Teixant (talk) 05:58, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi Teixant (talk) thanks for your message and thanks for pointing this out. I'm not aware that these teams don't exist. While I'm de-orphaning I do tag some articles for proposed deletion, but in some cases my ability to check them is limited. I would not expect there to be much information online about a provincial Mozambican football team, and the fact that I could find little or nothing about it would not necessarily mean it didn't exist. Equally, some of the articles themselves (e.g. Desportivo Manica) are many years old, so possibly there was a team of that name in the past, though there may not be any longer.
One of the reasons for de-orphaning is that there are lots of unreliable articles in the encyclopedia, and because they are orphans, editors with relevant or specialist knowledge don't know they exist, so can't correct or delete them. In de-orphaning an article I sometimes bring it to the attention of another editor who immediately knows what's wrong with it, and is more able than I able to know if it should be deleted.
Thanks for spotting this quickly and if I de-orphan anything else you know to be wrong, I hope you'll zap it.

Overzealous de-orphaning

Regarding your edit of Sazerac Company, please don't insert links to other articles for the just sake of avoiding having orphaned articles alone. The addition of that link lowered the quality of the company article, because the Sazerac Company is a large company that makes many brands. It is not appropriate to highlight one minor brand in the article about the company just to avoid the poor-quality article about that brand from being an orphan. The company's other products are not given equal treatment in that article, and many of those are more notable than Crown Russe. —BarrelProof (talk) 04:07, 11 March 2018 (UTC)

deprod Phil Drummond

Drummond is notable as a producer, at least for Xpansions who did go on TOTP. If it reads like a vanity article, feel free to strip out all vanity and promo lang. Note, the article does indeed still have a lack of WP:RS, and I don't find anything of value on Google; this is strange, as you'd think an act with a #7 UK single should at least have been written about in Sounds/NME. So if you want to AfD this article for lack of RS, go ahead, at least as a way of drawing possible editorial improvement out of the woodwork. But consider the quick prod objected to. Letter to Benedetto Castelli

Congratulations on the addition to Wikipedia of your relly nice, and very well-written article on Galileo's letter to Castelli.

I have some extra detail which I think is worth adding to the section on the Inquisition, along witn a few minor corrections. There is, however, one statement in that section which puzzles me: "The Holy Office examined Lorini's copy of Galileo's letter to Castelli on 25 February 1615 at the house of Robert Bellarmine." What is the source for this? I have a searchable e-book version of Blackwell's Galileo, Bellarmine, and the Bible. The only references to a date of 25 February in that work are on pages 21 and 120. The first of these is the date of the 18th session of the Council of Trent in 1562. The second is the date of a meeting in 1616 at which the pope was informed of the censures by the theological consultors of heliocentrism and geodynamism, and at which he instructed Bellarmine to order Galileo to abandon his support for them. Bellarmine's meeting with Galileo on the following day (26 February, 1616) is the only event I can find referred to in the book as taking place in Bellarmine's house.

I also think we need to be more cautious in what we take from Alison Abbot's note in Nature. I'll raise my concerns about this on the talk page
David Wilson (talk · cont) 22:05, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi @David J Wilson: the reference to Lorini's letter being examined at Bellarmine's house is on page 61 of 'Galileo in Rome' by Shea and Artigas. I thought it was just a minor point but if it struck you as odd it might strike other readers likewise so I've added the ref in to avoid doubt. Thanks for pointing it out. As for the recent item in 'Nature', that was the reason I wrote this article in the first place! I looked at other coverage of the story of the manuscript being discovered but it all seemed to be derived from the 'Nature' item. All the best Mccapra (talk) 22:36, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
Ah, I see that the reference is to a formal meeting of the Inquisition, which I should have realised. Although Shea and Artigas don't cite any source for the statement, this piece of information was enough for me to guess where I might find a primary source in the National Edition of Galileo's works. And in fact, an extract from the minutes of the meeting is reproduced on p.275 of Volume 19. I'm not sufficiently confident of my now very rusty schoolboy Latin to get anything more than a vague gist of what the extract says, but it looks to me like Shea and Artigas's statement that Lorini's letter was "examined" at the meeting might be a little inaccurate. Nevertheless, I agree with you that it's a minor point, and since Shea and Artigas's book is an impeccable source, I'm not inclined at the moment to try to obtain a complete and accurate translation of the minute, or undertake any further investigation.

Hello Mccapra, Your posting of the name of "Carmelo Filardi" to the list has been removed because you did not follow the rules set for inclusion which are the following:

Each addition to the list must also provide a reliable verifiable source which cites the person's notability and/or the person's link to Puerto Rico, otherwise the name will be removed.

You may add the name once more if the subject is truly notable and you comply with the rules of inclusion. Thank you Tony the Marine (talk) 20:27, 11 October 2018 (UTC)

Thanks, I've re-added the link with some refs.Mccapra (talk) 20:42, 11 October 2018 (UTC)

Twinkle

Is there a reason you don't use Twinkle for AfD nominations? It's significantly faster and easier. power~enwiki (π, ν) 20:23, 14 October 2018 (UTC)

just ignorance on my part! Mccapra (talk) 20:24, 14 October 2018 (UTC)
OK, WP:TW should explain how to enable it. It will add a "TW" drop-down next to the "More" drop-down, and has Javascript magic to do all the necessary parts of AfD deletions for you in a single click. power~enwiki (π, ν) 23:01, 14 October 2018 (UTC)
thanks very much. I’ve enabled it and will try it out the next time I want to do an AfD.Mccapra (talk) 05:57, 15 October 2018 (UTC)

Arabic references in possible hoaxes

Hello, you helped look at references in the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Syed Soleman Shah and so I kindly ask for your input with the author of that article's other creations, all up for AfD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gesudaraz I, which all also appear to have Arabic references. There are quite a few articles. IWI (chat) 20:31, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi yes I will but I’m travelling for the next few days and am mostly on a mobile device so as soon as I can use my laptop I’ll take a proper look. Mccapra (talk) 21:08, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

Thank you!

  The Barnstar of Diligence
Thank you Mccapra for your hard work in verifying the non-English references within both Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Syed Soleman Shah and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gesudaraz I. It is very much appreciated. Fish+Karate 09:37, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
Wow! Thanks very much! I’m happy to do this if it’s ever needed again. Mccapra (talk) 10:19, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
