Template dispute

edit

Hi. The template is for Turkic speaking nations and entities, the TRNC was placed into parenthesis next to the RoC, a country which is only dejure Turkish speaking. I argued that since the template is not exclusively for recognised states, there is no reason whatsoever to place the TRNC in parenthesis next to a country which is not even Turkish speaking. They argue the brackets are necessary to represent the "illegal" nature of the TRNC.

They seem to think the undue weight policy on WP applies to TRNC due to its non-recognised status, and that apparently makes any mention of the word TRNC or its flag "pov". They cannot seem to understand that the TRNC is not a "view" on which we can have different points. It is a reality, you can walk in it, vote in it, join its army etc. The only pov regarding the TRNC is whether it is legitimate and they dont accept that simply mentioning TRNC does not imply legitimacy. This attitude is the reason so many Cyprus related aritcles end up blocked or in a poor state, and they actually think they are doing us a favour by "letting" have its own article. Thats why i got so pissed off. Thanks, --A.Garnet 19:48, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Of course the question of whether Garnet honestly believes that any of the views he attributes to "them" are true remains very unclear ;-) //Dirak 20:12, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

PS NO, a state in northern Cyprus is not a reality, it's a POV interpretation of the reality. All that is a reality is the Turkish occupation. Anything beyond that is a POV, and the claims that you can you can "walk in it, vote in it, join its army..." are also POVs. The reality again is that you can walk in territory under occupation by Turkey claimed to be TRNC by the Turkey... Greek users have been nothing but nice to you, but you just respond with more PA, "fascists", "nationalists"... //Dirak 20:12, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

As u can see in the template, it is about Turkic-speaking nations and entities with an official Turkic language; in Cyprus Turkish is official. If u think that the entities listed should be only those that have a Turkic-speaking population with more than 51% (id est, not to be considered de jure turkic-speaking-note that there are still turkish cypriots in the Republic-), please remove Altai Republic, Khakassia and Bashkortostan... A.Garnet, sorry, but u have to choose: which entities would u like to see listed? those who have a Turkic-speaking majority or those that have a Turkic language as official? I suppose u would not try to list those who have some Turkic-speaking population (if u do, try adding Germany)...
The template should be exclusively for recognised-something. what u are doing, is trying to legitimise a universally illegal regime, by placing it next to an internationally recognised and sovereign state, with a dash between them (as if they have the same status...). ...and this is clear POV-pushing.
you can [...] join its army: that made me laugh! u mean the 40,000 Turkish troops, who, according to the UN, the EU, USA, etc, etc should immediately leave?
Bare in mind that the protection of the article is not endorcement of the current version. Regards Hectorian 20:15, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Why not just say something like "the Turkish Cypriot community", include both flags (the one of the Republic of Cyprus, and the one used by the Turkish Cypriots) and link to the Cyprus dispute in a footnote? //Dirak 20:19, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Theres not much to answer here that has not already been said on the template talk page. Except i did not call you all facists, why lie like that? I called Mitsos a facist...which he is.--A.Garnet 23:15, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think this dispute goes beyond just criteria Khoikoi. Its about how does the non-recogniton of the TRNC affects its representation in Wikipedia articles? Some Greek editors have made clear it means going as far as deleting the TRNC article for representing undue weight, which i argued is compeletely irrelevant to states. So in this template on Turkic speaking entities they think it means we should place the TRNC in parenthesis next to a non-Turkic speaking state. Imo this whole play on words for fear of legitimacy is runing the quality of all Cyprus related articles. Look at the TRNC article, it has a totallydisputed tag simply for being called TRNC, just yesterday they believed it deserved a pov-title tag, in the past as you've seen they removed the infobox because it implied legitimacy...The dispute goes beyond a couple of parenthesis, its their whole approach to how they think a non-recognised entity should be represented. --A.Garnet 15:51, 17 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
For what it's worth - and I really just stumbled upon this discussion - but I heartfully agree with A.Garnet. The TRNC as a state is an objective reality. There really is an entity there which calls itself a state, has all the decorative and structural atributes of a state and has citizens which act in every way as if the entity is a state. Now one can agree or disagree about the right of that state to exist¹, one can decide to ignore it, but that is a matter of opinion. And since we want to be NPOV, we must disregard such opinion and treat the TRNC and other states on an equal basis.
¹For the record, I think it should not exist, I think there should be one Cypriotic state. Sephia karta 01:27, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sumgait Pogrom

edit

Hey Khoikhoi is this allowed?

The official death toll released by the Office of Public Prosecutor (almost certainly reliable because it tallies with lists of named victims) was 32 people (26 Armenians and 6 Azeris). However, the numbers provided by Armenian media were almost ten times as high. It was estimated that 1,500 killed were in Armenian riots.

Its pretty much saying that the Armenian media is lying when Detroit news stated that can you fix this please? I reverted it and than he called it Vandalism it doesn't seem appropriate.

(almost certainly reliable because it tallies with lists of named victims)

the numbers provided by Armenian media were almost ten times as high

By the way im not taking sides i just want it to be fair its not appropriate he is disregarding the Detroit news and Armenia media if you combine these with out some points it would be good i have more sources but this is enough. I can do the same thing reversing what he said saying the Azeri sources state way less causalities etc its coming from one point of view there fore thats not acceptable. What do you think about this and this? The first one is definitely a propaganda and pov. The Perso-Islamic culture links to Persian culture and the Iranian Cultural Continent links to Greater Iran. The second one is also a pov and full of weasal words claiming that Azeris are Iranic people who in turn becomes Aryanic but Turkic speaking! In my opion, these are either negationism or pseudo-history? Maybe a new story? Which one? Regards. E104421 11:59, 17 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

These words from the mouth of someone who tried to falsefy history by claiming that Mughals and Timurids, as well as Safavids were Turks ... see List of Turkic states and empires (which itself as a pure POV article). May I remind you that you were blocked for 48 hours 3 days ago because you were pushing for extreme Pan-Turkistic propaganda and pseudo-history in White Huns?! Why don't you waste your time here instead of reacting to this?! Tājik 13:56, 17 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Actually, you were also blocked (for 48h) because of propaganda and pseudo-history. May I quote admin User:Future Perfect at Sunrise: "... E, please stop creating that White Huns article. Your own statements on its talkpage show it is a POV fork and as such illegitimate. ...". And do not accuse others of stalking because in here, you are the only one who is stalking on others and who is pushing for pseudo-scientific propaganda. Instead wasting your time on POV-pushing and stalking, use it on constructive discussions. You had 3 days to comment on the Mughal issue, yet your purposely ignored the discussion, you ignored authoritative scholarly sources, and you continued your POV push 3 days later! Look, research of such periods of history are not as clear cut as some people think. As for Timurids..Please see the website of the Royal Academy of Arts exhibition, co-created by a professor of Harvard University, entitled "Turks: The journey of a thousand years: 600-1600 [4].. There are clear references to Timurids in there. In fact, Timur is clearly considered to be an integral part of Turkic culture. I really advise all users and admins not to have preconceived notions on the subject matter. There is no clear-cut case for Timur being this or that, nor are there for other articles.Baristarim 18:14, 17 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, pov not pov-fork. What about the Perso-Islamic culture link which directs to Persian culture and the Iranian Cultural Continent link which directs to Greater Iran in the Turko-Iranian disambiguation page? What about the the weasal words of pov in the Iranian Turks article? Regards. E104421 15:43, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi KhoiKhoi,

While searching in the internet, I found an interesting article which argues that the impression one gets from the Gospels and early Christianity is biased against Judaism. The historical evidences he presents are interesting. I do think that the author has a POV but there must be a lot of truth in his work. I think the article is quite informative for readers coming from a Christian background. Here is the link:

The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}. Thanks for uploading Image:Map1024.gif. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 15:44, 17 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Actually I quoted Lewis Franklin who is the foremost biographer on Rumi. If we are talking about Persian Sufi poetry than we cite proper experts in the field. I am sorry but homosexual authors who are not experts in Persian Sufi poetry lack credibility relative to Professor. Franklin. [5]. Gays and Wahabites are wroking together here to distort the philosophy of sufism. Simply Rumi and Shams are the main representative of sufism and if there was any deviancy in sufi practices it does not represent mainstream sufism. --alidoostzadeh 20:12, 17 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Highshines

edit

I've been busy lately, so sorry for my delayed response. Highshines has been blocked a least once before for abusive sock-puppetry and for disruptive page moves. He/she has deleted many reference to this from his/her talk page, but if you look at an earlier version or this completely deranged edit by a Highshines sock, you get the picture.

The problems with this editor are several. He/she uploads unsourced images, posts them in oversized versions on page or adds variants of the same picture on a single page. He/she changes convential forms of Chinese names caprisciously and adds a lot of complete junk content. If you leave hus/her favorite pages alone for a while, you'll be sure to find them completely cluttered by Highshines edits when you get back and the end result is that many articles related to the Qing dynasty have become almost unreadable. I'm getting tired of cleaning up the mess and I would like to have him/her blocked from editing Cixi and a couple of other articles for a time. User:Jiang is familar with the case, but he hasn't got any time to deal with this.--Niohe 16:42, 18 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sidon again and again

Hi there, I don't see a common practice on Wikipedia to have historical placenames on top of the page. Do you see Greek or Latin names in Jerusalem or Damascus, for example? In my personal opinion, historical placenames should be written in the corpus of the entry, preferably in the History section, unless there are specific reasons to mention them in the initial heading. In the case of İstanbul and İzmir, for example, it may be adequate to mention the Greek name because both cities had a significant share of ethnic Greeks prior to 1923.
Also, it is unfair to write that I "deleted the section about Hezbollah". I only deleted a couple of lines based on disputable speculations and rumors published on a website and not confirmed through any other independent source. This is probably not the sort of things a reader would like to see on a "neutral", "fair" encyclopedia. Speculations and personal points of view can be expressed in other places, don't you agree with me?

However, I find this a bit disturbing [8]. What official lands? They belonged to the Ottoman Empire. What are the sources for this "official theft"? What is this? They had been Seljuq and Ottoman lands for centuries, who was stealing what from who? There is no such mention in any League of Nations or UN documents and maps. On what treaty is this based? Those have been Turkish lands since 1071; should I pack my bags and go back to the steppes of Central Asia? Can't you see the inherent racism in this? I am totally cool at mentioning Armenian presence, but this is way too over the line, implying all sorts of things. I know that some people would like that, but it is not going to happen. Can I go to the US article and write "however most of their official lands were officially stolen from the Native Americans during the Native American Genocide"? It is one thing to mention presence, it is a different thing to say "official theft". I hope you can see what I am trying to say. Baristarim 05:22, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

If Baristarim takes it on him my remarks then thats his problem because it was a question not an offensive remark by the way an offensive remark is this remark that was made by him "There is only one state Armenia... ones before it were not called "Armenia". what's this pan-armenianism?)". Which really pissed me of to make such a remark without knowing history very well and insulting Armenians by erasing the past. ROOB323 23:41, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Assyrian people

edit

Assyrians as a modern ethnonym has been introduced in the XIXth century by Protestant missionaries in the Ottoman and Persian Empires, - What? Khoi, if hte term was introduced in the 19th century, please explain this; a 17th century map [[11]] proves this clearly wrong when on the border of the map are pictures of the minorites living in Ottoman Empire at that time. Among them Aare Assryians. the picture captions are hard to read but under the third person from top and bottom reads Assyrian; The Turkish Empire, London c. 1627 SPEED, John (1552-1629) One of the most decorative maps of Turkish Empire from Speed's A Prospect of the Most Famous Parts of the World. The map covers Ottoman territories in the Balkans, Anatolia, Levant, Arabia and North Africa. Size 390 x 510 cm. Borders on each side show full length portraits of Greek, Egyptian, ASSYRIAN and Persian men and women. Please what you wrote was insulting, and pure false. TfD trouble

edit

Khoi, could you please check this out? There seems to be some friction between Mustafa Akalp and I. -- Clevelander 17:35, 20 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, I removed some anon's comments as vandalism from a TfD page on a template of former Armenian capitals (which Mustafa had nominated for deletion) without logging on (I wasn't sure if I could log on to Wikipedia at work or not). I then asked moderator Francis Tyers to close the TfD on no consensus because it was going nowhere (most of those voting to remove the template were Turks and most of those voting to keep the template were Armenians). Francis responded and said to wait it out. But then Mustafa wrote a long-winded and hard-to-understand message on the TfD in response to my removal of the anon comments and a response to my private discussion with Francis. I acted in response by restoring the anon's comments, replying to them, removing most of Mustafa's comments on the anon (which was mostly a copy-and-paste quote of the anon comments), and then moving the remainder of his comments on my discussion with Francis to Francis's talk page.
Mustafa was apparently outraged by this move and so he and I engaged in a back-and-forth dialogue via talk pages. I became frustrated by his apparent lack of knowledge of English which caused miscommunication and I'm afraid only made the situation worse. He then resolved to place his comments back on the page. He did so and I replied, but not before removing his re-quote of the anon (which if kept intact would only confuse the reader) and the quote of the message I left with Francis (which was already linked to the article). I also then moved to rename the template once and for all from "Armenian capitals" to "former Armenian capitals," thus resolving the most pronounced issue of the dispute - its name. Mustafa became enraged and wrote another long-winded message roundly denouncing my actions to administrators and users and then re-quoting his original message again. I replied again and then he wrote this message to you. So, naturally, I am now defending myself. I take full responsibility for my actions and I apologize. -- Clevelander 20:58, 20 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

California Flag

edit

Hello, I noted your objection to the accuracy of the previous version of Image:Flag_of_California.svg. I have made some changes to the coloration and the font to more closely match the PNG flag. Please review those changes and let me know if the current version is now as acceptable as the PNG. If there are further changes you would recommend, please let me know what they are. Thanks. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 20:55, 20 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wow, it looks a lot better—thanks for that! :-) However, there still seems to be something not quite right about the font and the star. Perhaps you should also try asking User:physicq210, who has also been active in the California flag thing on Wikipedia. Happy holidays, Khoikhoi 06:29, 22 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I appreciate your comments. I adjusted the positioning of the star, bear, and text. Also, I have reduced the size of the stripe and the star to match the PNG. As for the font.. I tried to find something similar, but it is not quite right. Any ideas for the official font? I think it is really pretty close now, compare here. I'll ask Physicq210 for his input also. Thanks and happy holidays. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 16:49, 22 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hmmm, perhaps you could try making the font bolder? That might do the trick. Khoikhoi 10:51, 23 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the suggestion. I've added a 1pt stroke to the path for the text. This has the effect of making it a bit thicker. Hope this looks good. Let me know if there are any further modificatons needed. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 14:11, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ok, sure. Khoikhoi 05:55, 28 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm still not so sure about the font...something just doesn't seem right. Are you sure it's 100% accurate? Khoikhoi 06:34, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I've tried to follow the specifications in the California law. I know the colors are not accurate to the spec, but the size and position of the elements are as accurate as I could make them. The font itself is not specified in the law, but only the font type "condensed gothic". I found something close to other renderings, but there is no official font. See §420 of the California Goverment Code for details. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 14:03, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi KhoiKhoi

edit

I just wanted to take a minute to express my hope that you have a great holiday season. Wherever you are and whoever you are, it's a time of celebration, looking back on our achievements, and being thankful (at least for me). In any event, may you be surrounded (literally and/or figuratively) by all the friends and family you can comfortably stand;).

On a side note, having you on my watchlist is a trip. So many people come to you like you're some kind of God, when you're just an admin and editor. I've tried to help in the past, but I'm afraid I still don't know that much about Wikipedia and it's policies yet. However, I learn so much every day that I'm on, and for that I'm thankful.

It seems that even the most negative things lead me to some article where I learn a great deal. I'm essentially a global person in my heart who is very provincial in my learning. By editing on Wikipedia, my little corner of the World has expanded greatly, and it grows day by day. I just plain feel smarter - perhaps I am:).

If you're encouraged by my little spiel, then my fondest wish came true. Consider it a "present" at this special time of year.

Sincerely, Nina NinaEliza (talk) 14:24, 23 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Geography of Turkey

edit

Hey! Merry Christmas!! I just looked into the article and understood what was posing a problem, and I left a note in the talk page. I will write the version that I mentioned in the talk page, so don't worry. I have no problems for the mention of Kurdistan in the article, however I was simply concerned with its actual inclusion. However, the article itself seems to be in a small mess, so it's ok. I will get around today hopefully. Cheers! Baristarim 00:22, 25 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I will check for the geography. It will be definitely included one way or the other in any case. As for Fuzuli.. Heydar Aliyev is ok, however with Fuzuli I disagree (just on a side note: there was great debate about exactly this ninety years i Turkey that became very famous, it is still being talked about today :)). I left a post on the talk page about this; I think that modern Turkic peoples should be excluded obviously, however important historical Turkic figures should be included OTOH, if their place in a timeline could be determined linking them to the development of the Turkish people, Turkey or the Ottoman Empire. Obviously the "Turkish" identity didn't exist back in 1400, so he is not "Turkish".
I have just been thinking that maybe the rename might hit a few snags. I think that it is really not a good idea to exclude people like Fuzuli. Back then the ethnic identities were pretty confused, and Azeris were considered in the same group as Turkmens of Anatolia. If he were of Turkmen descent from around Anatolia in the 15th century, then it is a pretty good guess that he would have become Turkish today (that was basically the point of the debate that I mentioned). All I am saying is that, this article shouldn't turn into a purge of people who are not Turkish citizens. If that will be the case, it might be better to move it back and seperate it into sections to clearly differentiate the time periods involved and give links to Turkic peoples articles for things like "List of Azeris". Baristarim 01:37, 25 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Why am I up so late all the time? Very long story... I actually don't live according to time periods of morning+afternoon+evening+night, but really dependent on what is happening and what I need to do in a day; and generally I do a lot of things in the evening. I sleep as much as an ordinary person, but nearly everyday at different periods. I know, it is weird! Many reasons though :) But I think that I will be heading to bed soon anyways! Baristarim 02:07, 25 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
But the funny thing is, I also notice way too many Turkish editors who edit in the weirdest hours of the night! I wonder what's going on? it's big world I suppose, everyone has got a story. lol Baristarim 02:11, 25 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

For your message. All i want is this dialog from managers. I hope you teach to Vikipedi managers how to manage people.

My source is me, i am living in izmit right now, i was born 1969 in izmit and lived here 37 years. izmit is a province. Center province of Kocaeli (if it is true saying capitol province). you can check in http://tr.vikipedi.org as Kocaeli and izmit. I was making them.. But, before i complete, with another topic i began to fight with managers because they were just deleting my pages without asking. The reason was 'copyright" but i was the owner of the articles..

Anyway we wont have such problem here because of my english. :-) Everyone can easily understand that this knowledges not from any other articles and these are originals. I hope someone correct me about grammer. Thank you :-) --Onder K. 02:59, 25 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Great

edit

That is all i can say. You are awesome. Firstly i want to tell you about problem i had in Vikipedi. :While i was making pages, I saw in "Featured content" that someone show "wikipedia.org" has wonderful Turkish Literature page, but Vikipedi has not.. He said "this is a shame for all of us".. I checked wikipedia.org and yes the page is great really. Then i began to make it Nonstop 7 haurs all Friday night.. Describtion is belongs to me. I got names, years and some details only from different sources. internet, booksand my highschool notes. 7 haurs nonstop i was working on page. puting all links each by each try to make it best one. I was literature student. I began to work in Hurriyet in 1990 as journalist. I am Digital Arts Magazine Editor right now. I know what is copyright very well. But an administor get a sentence from my page, searched in google, find a site.. Then he deleted all works that i work on it 7 haurs. immediately i wrote a message (Please dont delete it all details are original i dont have another copy." I was still editing at that time. He said no.. this is copy from sites. I said please let me prove it bring back.. Then they all began to argue with me. also in administor page.. Still our argue is there. I just wanted "give me a chance to prove. i dont have originals on me because i wrote on page".." No, they just deleted, told me many times this is rule we deleted anything.. Till 2 days i was argue with them (sure in a good way both side) for this reason.. This is the reason i left there.. I just wanted to help, that was all. and 7 haurs is huge time for me.. And all i said "i was here editing the same page nonstop 7 haurs. why you didnt send me a message to ask and directly deleted it"... Many people left vikipedi for such reasson

Your question is şehir and il is the same.. ilçe is different. şehir old saying (because of Ottoman Emperior language mixture of Arabian, Farsian and Turkish) il is new Turkish saying. Turkish language is very interesting for some reasons. We can disscus it whenever you want.
ilçe is part of il. il is city. ilçe is province in il. but population of Kocaeli is mostly in izmit. Kocaeli is different stiation because of its name for this reason. Kocaeli is total area, includes all provinces. and traffic code is 41.. izmit just a part of it. (it is amazing that you know about it)
I have a question too. Balaban Village. if i write Balaban Köyü, some people cant see öü letters. if i write Balaban Koyu, this became a different place meaning,, "koy=part of a gulf in sea" Therefore i wrote as Balaban K. and just Balaban has another page too.. i didnt decide its name.. what will be the best one ? Thank you again --Onder K. 04:01, 25 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

• To be honest i am still in shock now Because I already got many messages from many members to Help. This is amazing here. Noone believe this in Vikipedi. There is not only administer, i wrote every administer in there. All of them in their pages and also in administor complaint page. Also i tried to show the system here, when i join, i got a message, and someone helped me (2 days ago) and i wrote as this is the difference etc.. They just laught at me that i admire to boot (computer message).. Anyway i am in heaven now and i am very happy to meet you all. And you are RIGHT. 2 days ago i write "county" then i change it as province. i use province to show it is county.. This is my language mistake sorry. And the table is true. Şehir = Kent = il no difference. Şehir and il common usage mostly, kent not that much. but if you say Kocaeli kenti it will be true saying also. But in modern Turkish we use as "il".. When i read "divan literature-Ottoman Literature" i dont understand anything either. it is like Shekespeare language. many Arabic, Farsian words..mixture language. in Palace.. but at the same time kernel Turkish using in Folk, you can easily understand any poem in Fork writen 1000 years ago. Surely there are many dialects too, because Turkey is mixcute of cultures.. Noone born as a Turk. They born as Turkmen, Gurcü, Laz, Tatar, Abaza, Azeri, Kurt...... etc. These are roots of Turkish people.. But they became Turk under the same flag :-) this is why there are many words of the same meaning..Thank you again many many times.--Onder K. 06:25, 25 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Spelling

edit

Khoi, I think it is required to check which spelling is correct in English for directions and subdirections. I know that(may be wrong); main directions is writing with first letter as Capital like as; South, North etc and sub directions as combined word (first letter also capital) like as; Southwest, Northeast. Please check (in spelling) which one is correct; Southeast or South East. My offer to use correct one whatever google search is. Please let me know about your investigation. Ragards. Dear Khoi, Dont worry about moves. Your moves of Turkish Regions seems highly reasonable.

Ali Şir Nevai

edit

Hi, Why did you change my writings? Ok, Lets argue Who is Ali Şir Nevai, He was one of the greatest Turkish poets and outhors. He was trying to prove that Turkish is great and rich language, so he wrote Muhakemet-ül Lügateyn, in that book He compared Persian and Turkish language and he defended the superiorty of Turkish Language. I think in your opinion, why he wrote his poems in Persian? Ok, today why we correspond in English? Why that encyclopedia is English? In your answer, you said that Turkish means only live in Turkey? What is the meaning of Turkish? Do you know Atatürk's words:Turkish means who speak Turkish. edit

I noticed that on Anti-Romanian discrimination article you changed Category:Politics of Hungary category with Category:History of Hungary, which is fine.

In this case we have to do similar changes to similar articles, like Anti-Hungarian sentiment, where the used categories are Category:Politics of Romania, Category:Politics of Slovakia, Category:Politics of Serbia, Category:Politics of Vojvodina. And where you have to change them into History of that countries. --Roamataa 09:39, 28 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

OK, I get your point. But the truth is that when we include a article into the category Politics of Country it should refer to the politics of that country (during its entire existence) or we shouldnt include it at all. From this point of view, anti-hungarian discrimination also isn't really related to the politics of modern-day Romania and should contain Category:History of Romania and not Category:Politics of Romania. Otherwise is subjetiveness.
I agree with your opinion about anti-abc articles, but when you see some articles saying absurd things about persons you live with, you can't just stay and accept them. I live in Transylvania and have relatives and friends both Romanians and Hungarians, but we never, never argue or discriminate each other. In everyday live none of us care if one is Romanian or Hungarian. And I saw here some accuses against Romanians, that have nothing to do with the reality. There are some political organization, both Romanian and Hungarian, that usually accuse the other nationality for everything bad that happens and fan the flame. --Roamataa 11:04, 28 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ugliness, reason for removal?

edit

I noticed that you removed the picture of a Soviet tank in Tiraspol with the explanation "Is ugly". Why is ugliness a reason for removal? We are an enciclopedia, not a travel agency, we should present things as they are. Anyhow, Tiraspol authorities don't consider the monument of Soviet tank as ugly.--MariusM 11:11, 28 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Azerification

edit

I noticed, you've edited the original statement in the Azerification article. I still find the comment and the source irrelevant due to the definition of the term 'Azerification', which concerns cultural assimilation. Parishan 12:38, 28 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Khoikhoi, I have asked some questions on Talk:Sidon regarding the inclusion of the Hebrew name in the article lead. As you previously added two of them back in after I deleted them, I suspect you may be able to enlighten me. Thanks, Palmiro | Talk 13:00, 28 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kustul Monastery

edit

Hi. Both those names are just spelling variations. If you want the formal name, it is (was) Ιερά Μονή του Αγίου Γεωργίου Περιστερεώτα (tr. Holy Monastery of St George Peristereota). It was founded in 752 AD at 30 km northeast of Trabzon. The name "Pristereota" derives from the Greek word peristeri (περιστέρι = pigeon), because legend has it that three pigeons lead the three different monks who founded to the location (the source goes on to mention where from - a forest - but I don't know its English name). The monastery was finally closed on 17 January 1923 (the monks were expelled) and the monks went to Greece with the rest of the region's Greeks (source). A monastery with the same name was inaugurated on 16 June 1978 in Naousa, Imathia, which is where the monks of the monastery of Pontus are buried (source). Everything up to my first "source" link is sourced by the first link, everything thereafter by the second. The official website of the monastery in Greece now is [17]. Sorry I can't add it to the article myself - I have very little online time. Enjoy :-) //Dirak 14:03, 28 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please stop removing the "replaceable fair use" tag

edit

If you don't believe that the image is replaceable, then by all means add the "disputed" tag, but please leave the original tag there as well. Thank you. —Chowbok 05:43, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

An explanation is only necessary if it's disputed. So far you haven't officially disputed it. If you add a disputed tag, I'll explain my reasoning. Please also note that the tag says "do not remove this tag". I must request, once again, that you not remove the tag. Thank you. —Chowbok 05:51, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
A free image of this subject could reasonably be created. Therefore, we cannot use a fair-use image. —Chowbok 05:59, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Why couldn't a new one be created? And current policy is, as a matter of fact, that we should have no picture instead of a replaceable fair-use one. —Chowbok 06:11, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wow, you're like superpopular (or notorious) if you have to have a semi-protected page now!

Hey dude. Yeah I know I'm so in and out still. Last paper will be done by mañana and then I have to work on and off and will probably get wasted beyond belief on New Year's. After that I figure I'm good to help out here for a month or so. If only I could win the lottery so that I could devote more time here. Anyway, I got a message to help with History of Central Asia too which I may just do at some point to keep that article from suffering the fate that has befallen the Pashtuns (RIP featured article status). I looked in on the Afghanistan page and I did leave a message on the Khorasan issue. Basically, it was a region that included sub-regions and was a geographic term used by Persians and Arabs, although the Pashtuns and others probably didn't use it as much if at all. I thought that would resolve the issue as it's not a big deal and Afghanistan was just one part of Khorasan which was quite big during the early Arab Caliphate era for example. Kabul's easy. There hasn't been a census taken there so claiming a majority of any ethnic group is premature and pointless, but Persian speakers (Tajiks and Hazaras) may be the majority given the Pashtun refugees who fled and haven't returned as yet. It's better to just list the groups that live there and not worry about something that has not been verified at this time. We'll probably find out soon enough though. I'm doing good otherwise, thanks for axin'. How have you been? I see you've taken on quite the workload with the admin. thing. Yeah I don't know why I got back into editing Pashtuns frankly. Someone emailed me about it so I checked it out and found that it was under review and then saw why. Talk about a mess. At least our Iranian peoples article has stood the test of short time and Azeris still looks presentable. 2 out of 3 ain't bad I guess. Hope your hoildays are going well and here's to getting drunk and making foolish resolutions! ;) Tombseye 05:45, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Subst of {{Vector version available}}

edit

Why do you want {{Vector version available}} subst'd on Image:California state flag.png? Mike Dillon 05:58, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I see. I thought you just wanted it subst'd for some reason; I didn't notice that you had changed the text. As for policy, there is this statement at WP:IUP#Rules of thumb:
9. Use JPEG format for photographic images, and SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps, flags, and such, falling back to PNG when only a raster image is available.
It's part of a policy document, which presumably means there was consensus to add it there. I don't know if that means there's a policy for replacing them, but I haven't seen any objections to the latest SVG version of the flag since User:ChrisRuvolo's latest changes. Are you still not satisfied with the SVG version? Mike Dillon 06:08, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry to hear you don't like SVG images, since most people feel they are an improvement when it comes to line art and other solid colored media.

As for the accuracy of the flag image, it is quite accurate to the flag's legal specs, as discussed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject California#California Flag in SVG. Trying to make it accurate to Mario Fabretto's specific rendering may not be worth any more effort than ChrisRuvolo has already expended. Glad to hear that you find the current version acceptable, despite the image format. Mike Dillon 06:15, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I believe Chris moved the star and resized it to conform with the legal definition. Mike Dillon 06:20, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
The law defining the flag is pretty specific about the size, position, and color of all the flag's elements. The only things it doesn't specify is exactly how the bear should look, what exact font to use (it says "condensed gothic"), and the color of the words "CALIFORNIA REPUBLIC". I hate to say it, but the one at parks.ca.gov is "wrong", for whatever that's worth. Mike Dillon 06:27, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Correction: it does say what color the words should be; I missed that in my first reading. Mike Dillon 06:28, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

User:Diana Teodorescu

edit

Khoikhoi, I am almost 100% that this is Bonaparte. The edits on Transnistria for 29 Dec are almost carbon copies of those made by User:Pirates of the Pacific on the same article on 23 Dec. I was away for most of Friday, but I saw that several other users battled him. One even got blocked for the trouble. - Mauco 00:41, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

You know, Bonaparte is not the main problem. He just added fuel to the fire, but he was being cheered on by a couple of others. Check the history of Transnistria. But the edit warring was there already, even without him. I have requested full protection of the page. - Mauco 01:17, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Regarding Execution of Saddam Hussein

edit

[18] says that the execution took place outside the Green Zone; [19] says the opposite. I presume that BBC should be trusted more, but I just thought that I'd bring this discrepancy to your attention. Geo News seems to pass WP:RS, also. This will undoubtedly be settled soon. --GracenotesT § 06:10, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Execution of Saddam Hussein

edit

I had actually placed it their earlier last night, but one of the Wikipedia Admins said it was not needed and that it should be deleted. So i had told him if i see it again that i will delete it. I'm doing the best to keep this article in order, its not needed, and if an Admin does not see it needed, i will follow with that. Mcoop06 09:19, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sockpuppets of today

edit

Thanks for quickly blocking the obvious sockpuppet (Redfein) of the so-called Kallete, who itself is definitely a sockpuppet of someone else. I suspect Kallete could be a sockpuppet of Ottomanreference, given it appeared out of nowhere after the discussions of yesterday about the way Armenian deaths are mentioned in Turkey article, and making reverts on that line. But I'm not sure. Regards, Atilim Gunes Baydin 14:11, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Arghh......

edit

I'm currently engaged in a long (and I mean VERY LONG) and tedious discussion on WP:VPM. Essentially two Chinese Wikipedians were blocked, got a bit disgruntled, came to the English Wikipedia, and started hurling all kinds of accusations at Chinese Wikipedia admins (that they are commie spies, etc.) These are essentially a continuation of the rants they were spamming all over the Chinese Wikipedia that got them blocked in the first place. I've been trying to keep track of their accusations on WP:VPM and debunking them one by one, but frankly, this is the English Wikipedia and such discussions about another Wikipedia shouldn't even be here. This discussion looks like it could drag on indefinitely. Could you take a look and see what might appropriately resolve this situation?

Thanks. -- ran (talk) 18:40, 30 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Khoikhoi, about SummerThunder, well, his permanent block on the Chinese Wikipedia was more of a last resort than anything else. I tried to communicate with him on his talk page, in fact 10+ people tried between his first edit and his permanent block (about a period of two weeks), but it just didn't work. Whenever a mainland Chinese appeared, he would immediately go, "why are you here?", "you've got to be a spy!" without even bothering to discuss anything else, and when a Hong Konger or Taiwanese appeared, it would go from "be careful of those spies" to (eventually) "you're a spy yourself, I can see it now!" Civil discussion was essentially impossible. In addition he was spamming all of the Village Pump subpages. So we decided after two weeks that it really isn't worth it anymore to keep trying to mentor him.
As for French's article, it's a gross misrepresentation. I've done a pretty thorough debunk of it on the Chinese Wikipedia Village Pump before (more of a rant to myself than anything else ^_^, since mostly everyone else, Uponsnow and SummerThunder excluded, were fuming about it too). I'd like to dig it up and translate it into English, but since it's pretty late where I am, that'll have to wait till tomorrow. =)

Totally unrelated

Totally unrelated to anything... your name is actually two links, which the first part directs you to your main page and the other one to the discussion. I don't know if this (or the fact that I'm not the greatest speller) makes me seem unknowledgable but how do you do that? I've seen other people that have the name so it works like that and I think is cool and want to know how you do that... sorry if you have already talked about this and being a lazy guy and what-not with the not reading the 22 pages of disscution you have...thanks. --Eduardo 00:37, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
