@Jrcla2 and Rikster2: Hey, guys. It's long overdue that someone creates a List of Florida Gators men's basketball head coaches. Can you provide three or four examples of college basketball coach lists that you believe are well done and among the better examples out there? Thanks. Erv Staggs

I don't know if he is, I couldn't find a definitive source one way or the other, but the media guide lists "James Staggs" as the team's leading scorer in 1967–68, the same season that the NC A&T coach navbox had James Staggs as head coach. What's the source that says Staggs coached there? It is a 1-year tenure between two of Cal Irvin's - this source says Staggs played for Irvin. This source shows James Staggs as the coach in 1967–68, but this shows he was their head coach for 18 years, which would include the 67/68 season. This also shows an 18-year head coaching career. For the record, ESPN absolutely sucks from a research perspective. Just today they had a tweet extolling Kay Felder's PPG while leading the country in assists. They credit "Jason Jordan" of Davidson in 2006-07 as having the highest PPG while leading the country in assists. They of course meant Jared Jordan of Marist, while Jason Richards of Davidson led the country the next year. Rikster2 (talk) 21:57, 15 February 2016 (UTC)

NBL articles

Hey - Thanks for creating these by the score! I have one request - as you create them, can you add their deaths to the relevant year in basketball article (eg - 2016 in basketball). A user went through and created a ton of these but didn't populate them fully. I add deaths as I can, but it's helpful if as the creator you can add it at the time just as you would for a high school alumni list or adding onto a list of surnames. Thanks! Ok sure, I'll keep that in mind going forward. For whatever reason I got the itch to knock out all of the Pittsburgh Raiders players since the team only existed for one season. Help stubbing out bio articles to preserve navboxes

Jrcla2, how's it going? Corkythehornetfan is in the process of identifying NCAA Division I coach and athletic director navboxes that have few blue links and are therefore potential candidates for deletion. He's compiling a list here. Given your focus on college basketball, I thought perhaps you would be able to attack the basketball coach navboxes on the list and see about creating new articles such that each navbox has at least four blue links. Template:2016_Villanova_Wildcats_men%27s_basketball_navbox

Hi,

I saw your deletion of the Villanova bench players. I believe that WP:NNC or WP:NOTEWORTHY governs - notability does not apply within article content. Otherwise, the list should be called something like "2016 Villanova Wildcats who played in the title game," or "Partial list of 2016 Villanova Wildcats." Not even all those who played in the final are necessarily notable beyond what might be relatively short time.

For many other teams, players who barely played are included on their team lists.

Notability is not temporary. If they are notable now, they're presumed notable forever. And a lot of players on other teams become notable for non-playing reasons, but still warrant articles. Literally every single college basketball, college football, and college baseball championship navbox only contains players who pass WP:GNG, even if those players are notable for reasons entirely unrelated to the sport itself. Those championship navboxes are not supposed to be banner-hangers and memorials to every player and coach who happened to be on the roster (that's what the season articles are for); they are supposed to include only links that help navigate between articles. Sometimes, as in the Villanova navbox, certain notable players do not yet have articles, hence the red links. But no, not every player or coach deserves to be on them. SEAOFBLUE

Isn't there a clause with SEAOFBLUE regarding tables? I swear there have been discussions regarding OVERLINKING and SEAOFBLUE in terms of tables and how they are an exception. Would you consider doing the same to All-NBA Team (too many entries I'm guessing is a reason why not)? Why so set on implementing SEAOFBLUE on All D-League Team? I personally don't see the big deal in having them all linked, looks patchy to me with black and blue scattered. I would definitely consider doing the same to All-NBA Team. By keeping players and teams linked only the first time they appear, it is cleaner and less arduous to sort through who's been selected before. List of NCAA Division I men's basketball season scoring leaders

Hi! Looks like something is missing from the 1986/1987 season. Kevin Houston has scored 953 total points, but if you multiply 311 by 2 and add 268, the result would be 890, not 953. I don't really get why the website doesn't have the statistics on 3-point field goals, although it's available starting from 1987 (not 1988 as it claims). Taking this into account, we shouldn't consider the website an ideal source, and honestly I think the authors could have made a mistake in 1944/1945 season in Mikan's points. 2016–17 South Alabama Jaguars basketball team move

Hey, I saw where you moved the title for the current South Alabama Jaguars men's basketball team season to a title without men's in it. According to the team's website and the South Alabama Jaguars page, the women's team no longer uses the Lady Jaguars name so there needs to be a distinction between the men's and women's team now. I have some experience with them. A couple years ago there was a prolific sockpuppeter who disrupted all college sports' WikiProjects. Check out his long SPI archive. When opening an SPI, you must provide strong evidence to support your claim that what the user is doing is problematic in some way, and also provide as many appropriate diffs as possible to support it. I think you created the Jake article. I am almost positive that they are father and son, but can't find a source that definitively states it. When I search newspapers.com I see some paywall articles that seem to confirm it, but nothing freely available. @Rikster2: I found the confirmation, but it requires two separate sources (when combined, they are the smoking gun).

• Part 1: Bob's obituary says "Bob was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elsie Pelkington." Since Jake Pelkington's real first name was John, that's a good start. Still not conclusive by itself though. You'll notice in the obit that Bob Pelkington was also preceded in death by his brother, John "Jay" Pelkington.
• Part 2: John "Jay" Pelkington's obituary says "He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. Jr. and Elsie Pelkington." The middle initial "F" makes it official, as Jake Pelkington's middle name was Francis.

So, I know you don't have a ton of time for articles, but I didn't know if you would be willing to create an article for Luke Kennard of Duke. He's probably the front-runner for ACC POY (with Justin Jackson) and will certainly be an All-American. There is also a picture from the McDonald's All-American game. War Eagle in Auburn men's basketball template

You recently removed War Eagle from the Culture & lore section of the Auburn Tigers men's basketball template, citing that it is "used primarily for the football team." I don't think this is true. War Eagle as both a phrase and a fight song are used across all Auburn athletics, hence why I included it. There is plenty of footage out there of the fans shouting it at tipoff or of coaches and players using the phrase if it needs to be cited. AuburnShuffle (talk) 21:37, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

If you feel strongly about that I am not going to fight it. But I hate it when links are added to navboxes and then those navboxes aren't even added to the article itself. That's a fair point, I should have added the template to the War Eagle article. I'm thinking that maybe the War Eagle mascot should be a separate article from the War Eagle phrase/fight song, but that would be a fairly big undertaking. I'll leave things as is for now. Lafayette Lever

Hi Jrcla2. Please forgive me if I'm putting this in the wrong spot. Although I've been editing Wiki pages for around six years I still can't figure out how to contact editors. I understand your logic behind reverting Mr Lever's page. As a seasoned NBA viewer and historian, I can assure you that Mr. Lever himself prefers his birth name over his unflattering nickname. When he was playing in the 1980's he was always refereed to as Lafayette 'fat' Lever, never just 'Fat' Lever. It is bad form to disregard someone's true name because a few actors have spread a non-accurate moniker. Hopefully Wikipedia is above such low brow attempts at humor. Thanks! The rakish fellow
