Tech News
- The next issue of Tech News will be sent out on 19 July.
Recent changes
- AutoWikiBrowser is a tool to make repetitive tasks easier. It now uses JSON.
Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage
has moved toWikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPageJSON
andWikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Config
.Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage/Version
has moved toWikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage/VersionJSON
. The tool will eventually be configured on the wiki so that you don't have to wait until the new version to add templates or regular expression fixes. [1]
Problems
- InternetArchiveBot helps saving online sources on some wikis. It adds them to Wayback Machine and links to them there. This is so they don't disappear if the page that was linked to is removed. It currently has a problem with linking to the wrong date when it moves pages from
archive.is
toweb.archive.org
. [2]
Changes later this week
- The tool to find, add and remove templates will be updated. This is to make it easier to find and use the right templates. It will come to the first wikis on 7 July. It will come to more wikis later this year. [3][4]
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week.
Future changes
- Some Wikimedia wikis use Flagged Revisions or pending changes. It hides edits from new and unregistered accounts for readers until they have been patrolled. The auto review action in Flagged Revisions will no longer be logged. All old logs of auto-review will be removed. This is because it creates a lot of logs that are not very useful. [5]

DYK for Anaëlle Wiard
On 6 July 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Anaëlle Wiard, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Belgian international association footballer Anaëlle Wiard, who started playing beach soccer in 2020, was the top scorer in a competition that year? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Anaëlle Wiard. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Anaëlle Wiard), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
Sky Brown Birthday
Hello, I work for the Talent Agency that manages Sky Brown. The correction to her birth date needs to be edited by tomorrow, as her birthday is tomorrow, July 7th. Her birthday is not July 12th. Please see this source from our Talent Information Board: https://onesheets.creatoriq.com/Sky_Brown. Please let me know if you have any other questions. This needs to be updated as soon as possible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lean1015 (talk • contribs) 22:57, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- I have started a discussion at WP:BLPN to try and resolve this issue. Many newspaper articles give her birth date as 12 July 2008, which is why we are doing so currently. Joseph2302 (talk) 23:18, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- Although Wikipedia has no deadline, so "it must be edited by tomorrow" is unlikely to occur. Joseph2302 (talk) 23:19, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- The outcome of that discussion was not to include any birth date, for privacy reasons, especially as she is a minor. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:55, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

Interested in talking to the media?
Kia ora Joseph, greetings to Sussex the contemporary New Zealand way! Good working with you on the Olympics DYK initiative. A year ago or so, we had a big RfC on the use of macrons in New Zealand English (warning – only read it if you have half an hour to spare) and it got a bit of media attention. I was thinking that I should perhaps send out a press release about the New Zealand rowers that are going to feature on Wikipedia's homepage. It's always good if journalists have someone to talk to (or exchange emails with) and it might intrigue them if one of the contacts is from the other side of the world. Would you be interested in being part of approaching the media? I would write the words in Google Docs (you would be most welcome to contribute), I'd send it out, and would then avail ourselves to any questions anybody might have. You could provide a real name plus email address, or we could use your user name plus the WP "email this user" link. My experience is that most journos would just work with the content of the press release and not make contact. What do you think? Schwede66 21:41, 18 July 2021 (UTC)
- I can do, though you did most of the work for it. Great that we got 30 free photos too. Please send me an email on what I need to do. Joseph2302 (talk) 17:07, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Recent changes
- The tool to find, add and remove templates was updated. This is to make it easier to find and use the right templates. It was supposed to come to the first wikis on 7 July. It was delayed to 12 July instead. It will come to more wikis later this year. [6][7]
- Special:UnconnectedPages lists pages that are not connected to Wikidata. This helps you find pages that can be connected to Wikidata items. Some pages should not be connected to Wikidata. You can use the magic word
__EXPECTED_UNCONNECTED_PAGE__
on pages that should not be listed on the special page. [8]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 20 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 21 July. It will be on all wikis from 22 July (calendar).
Future changes
- How media is structured in the parser's HTML output will soon change. This can affect bots, gadgets, user scripts and extensions. You can read more. You can test it on Testwiki or Testwiki 2.
- The parameters for how you obtain tokens in the MediaWiki API were changed in 2014. The old way will no longer work from 1 September. Scripts, bots and tools that use the parameters from before the 2014 change need to be updated. You can read more.
