Finlandia

Hi Jim1138 - You keep deleting a youtube link I'm adding to the Finlandia page saying it might infringe copyright. I am the producer of that video and the copyright owner. Wikipedia guidelines permit relevant youtube content to be linked. Eye of God (talk) 01:27, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

If you read the information I added to your talk page, it tells you what to do. If you don't add that information, I'll remove your edit again. Also, please remember to add talk to the bottom of the talk page: use the "New section" tab at the top if adding a new topic. Placing your comment in the middle of the page makes it hard to find. I moved it to the bottom. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 01:33, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
Hi, Jim. Adding that link is not a copyvio. The video may be a copyvio, but the link itself is not. I personally don't think the link is helpful but that's no reason to edit war over its addition. See ya 'round Tiderolls 01:48, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi Jim. Neither the link itself nor the destination URL of the link are copyright, as you claim. I am totally complying with Wikipedia's guidelines, therefore am adding the link again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eye of God (talkcontribs) 02:00, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Nah, EoG, you're not totally complying with Wikipedia's guidelines as I explained on your user talk. Tiderolls 02:04, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

What Do I have to do to contribute?

Do I have to be in the 'in crowd' to update articles here? I had a source broseph and he kept deleting my entry. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.79.155.118 (talk) 02:10, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Many thanks, Jim1138, for all you do on Wikipedia, especially watching for vandalism on my personal pages. Regards, Pinethicket (talk) 10:06, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

Tabloid quality text??

Do you know what that even means?? To mention the specific insult = tabloid level? I'd say that's a retard level accusation. 126.109.231.100 (talk) 11:12, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

Weed

HI Jim1138, why can i not add For the illicit drug (see {{Cannabis (drug)}}) ? It is just an easier way for people to access the illicit drug page. i have a feeling many people do not know what disambaguation means. I feel it would be appropriate to add it considering the amount of viewers of the page who are looking for the drug page but are unable to find it and do not think to click on the weed (disambiguation)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mmarcus100 (talkcontribs)

Well, why don't you put it back and see if anyone else objects. Please use the {{see also|Cannabis (drug)}} template? You are kind of making a mess of other things which I have been cleaning up BTW.... Jim1138 (talk) 07:57, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

Incorrect revert

Your revert of my edit to Casu marzu cited me as adding unsourced content, however I added nothing to the article, I removed content which lacked relevance to the article, mostly a whole paragraph about the disease Myiasis (note: the article is about cheese). The health concerns section goes into far greater detail about the disease then what is needed for such a page, I didn't remove all reference to the disease, only the excessive description of it and reworked what was already there, and I did post all my reasons on the talk page prior to making the edit and included a link to the talk page section in the edit description. 203.51.44.37 (talk) 04:44, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

OK this is just stupid, it turns out you removed my comment on the talk page as "nonsense" around the same time you posted on my talk page to actually discuss such an edit on the talk page? How can I discuss such an edit if my discussion is removed? 203.51.44.37 (talk) 04:51, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for resolving that, I figured it was just a case of misreading. 203.51.44.37 (talk) 04:56, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

I was referring to their nicknames as being unsourced. They seemed rather unusual. I check the website and they are rather obvious. I reverted my changes. Thanks for letting me know. An wp:edit summary often helps prevent this sort of thing. Again, my apology! Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 18:15, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Darrell Issa - Alleged Auto Thief

An how is something that has a correct link with references considered vandalism? My addition to the article was of a Neutral point of view (NPOV), Verifiable (V), and no original research (NOR).

http://www.npr.org/2012/04/16/150739985/house-investigator-issa-has-faced-allegations-as-well

Read the reference before you call someone out on being a vandal... all I am trying to do is update the article since my teacher referenced this in class today. In no way did I say he did it, I clearly posted the title of the section as "alleged" which is factually accurate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.240.191.145 (talk) 01:16, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

This is not vandalism - but it is copyright infringement as it's a direct copy of the source material. You have to write the article and use the source, not copy-and-paste other people's copyrighted content. Vertium (talk to me) 01:19, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
I don't see any "vandal" reference that I added to your talk page. The unregistered firearm incident is already on the page. The source of the vehicle theft arrest is not sufficient. It is a minor mention in the NPR article. Try an arrest report instead. BTW: your copy/paste of the material from NPR is a potential copyright violation you need to use your own words. See wp:copyright. Also, I dislike him as much as you do. Just don't mess up Wikipedia for it. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 01:24, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
What part? An arrest is notable, even if the charges were dropped when a legislator has a reputation for holding others to the highest standards of obeying the law. Irrespective of that, this was an opportunity to educate an editor rather than just warn. This didn't seem like there was much WP:AGF going on. Thanks for the civil dialogue! Vertium (talk to me) 01:42, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
The NPR reference to the arrest is a minor side note almost. From my experience, it really needs to be more substantially sourced. I am not sure what would qualify as "substantial", though. Perhaps an arrest report or more detailed article. What do you think? Cheers! Jim1138 (talk) 01:47, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
It's unrealistic to expect we're going to find an arrest record from the 1970s, and NPR is a reputable news outlet. They are very unlikely to have put this story out until it had been verified and vetted. If it was false in any way, we would have seen the story pulled from the NPR website and a retraction made. I would consider this a reliable source and verifiable content. I still object to the editor's copyright infringment, but the story is worth reporting. I'm creating a section on Issa's page entitled "Arrests" which do not claim him to be a criminal (nor did the IP editor), but the arrests seem to be verified. Thank you. Vertium (talk to me) 02:09, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
Given the number of people who hate him, any arrest record would be posted everywhere. Good luck with your adding that content to the bastard's Darrell Issa's page. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 02:56, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Reverts at Al-Farabi

Just wanted to give you a friendly head's-up that you may want to back off a little with the reverts at Al-Farabi. I sympathize with you, understand that you're upholding consensus and all that, but some may not see it as that clear cut. I went through a bit of an ordeal a couple days ago for something similar, so just make your next move carefully. I would suggest going to AN/I if you think it needs admin attention. Cheers! Evanh2008 (talk|contribs) 02:11, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up. It will probably get to the WP:AN3 or WP:AN/I. The reverts are one thing, the edit summaries are something else entirely. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 03:01, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
Best of luck with it! If you need help with anything, just let me know. Evanh2008 (talk|contribs) 03:06, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Jim1138 good day! Please give your reasons why you were to revert my last edit? My reasons are stated on that very page and the truth stands out, please explain — Preceding unsigned comment added by Majilis (talkcontribs) 02:04, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Jim1138 definitely not by consensus because you are simply ignoring the facts, you don't want to accept it - it's your problem, but we must follow the truth and obey to the facts, i want justice, do not be unjust to yourself

--Majilis (talk) 02:37, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

Greetings

Hello Jim1138. I noticed where you responded to a new users help request. I think it is great that you show concern for assisting new users. I did want to share a view on your advice that should be slightly refined. When you suggest the user should copy a developed article onto a page that is actually incorrect. The draft should always be moved, never copied! This is the only way to preserve the edit history which is an important part of every page. I just wanted to share that slight change in perspective with you and I hope you are not offended with my manner. Sincerely - My76Strat (talk) 20:56, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

I suggested copied so that the redirect would still exist. I would not have suggested copying it if the article was new. Given that, should it be/have been moved? Seems moot now as User talk:PinkShinyRose appears to have given up: Talk:Flag disposal. I don't think User talk:IShadowed's comment on PinkShinyRose's talk was supportive. Jim1138 (talk) 21:05, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
I left a message for the user on the redirect talk page and effected their suggestion as it proved sound. I don't want to parse IShadowed's motives beyond the constraints of AGF. It is clear that people skills are learned and some excel where others do not. The entire gist of my previous comment is simply to not feed mis-information. It's really an innocent slip to say copy when move is more correct, but it is better than if later someone asks the user why they copied a page to a new title instead of move and for them to say they were told to do it this way. And a WP:HISTMERGE is a rather cumbersome correction to effect. Based on your manner, and good people skills, I presumed you would rather maintain the high ground and therefor shared this observation with you. To clarify, the system would reject the attempt to move the page because of the redirect and the fact that no two articles can maintain the same title, at the same time. It requires an admin delete the redirect leaving a summary to the effect: "Delete redirect to make way for page move". Naturally if there was some reason not to create the article under that title, the admin would advise the user at that time which is still less of a bite that outright rolling them back. And if they do delete the page to make way, that serves a clear indication that the subsequent move is proper. So as it happens in this case, the best practice is actually best. I don't feel I've wasted a word sharing this with you. Cheers - My76Strat (talk) 21:53, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
I apologize if my comment appears out of line. I should have looked at your Wikipedia tenure and experience before posting that comment. I feel a bit foolish for that error. Best regards - My76Strat (talk) 03:29, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
My "tenure" is mostly many clicks with Huggle. Your comments were (and are always) quite welcome and educational. My main concern at that point was PinkShinyRose getting trounced. Thanks again for your instruction! Jim1138 (talk) 03:36, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

Description + Notability

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. I appreciate you not deleting the list, many of these women don't have Wiki pages, not because they're not notable, but because Italian American Women are not published as often as men.

I've been modeling it after http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_American_writers List of Mexican American Writers, because similarly, they are not recognized as freely as other American writers.

They have some red links too, what are your thoughts? Srdemuro (talk) 20:31, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

I attempted to add a description to List of Italian American Women Writers. Please let me know if this looks okay. I also am in the process of updating the list to add many of these writers' awards and honors. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Srdemuro (talkcontribs) 19:51, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

I would suggest copying the list to your sandbox such as user:Srdemuro/List of Italian American Women Writers - you can create that page. I would suggest putting a link to it in your user page: Srdemuro. Remove the red links from List of Italian American Women Writers and add them back to the article as you create the pages or add sources. You might discuss this with User talk:Drmies she is an admin and is helpful. Jim1138 (talk) 20:39, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks Jim! I took care of your suggestions and I'm working on creating some pages. Thanks for being so nice! Srdemuro (talk) 18:18, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

When to keep the red links

If you look at WP:REDLINK you'll see that red links are encouraged if the linked topic can conceivably be made into an article. REDLINK is an official guideline, while WP:WTAF is only an essay, so REDLINK is what we follow.

Also, check out WP:LISTPEOPLE. If someone adds a red link to a list of people, the red-linked person should be provided with a reference to show notability such that an article could be written about them. Removing red links from lists of people is okay, but it's more in keeping with the goal of growing the encyclopedia if cites are hunted down and added behind the redlink to establish its notability. When such cites cannot be found, the red-linked person should be removed. Binksternet (talk) 23:25, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

As I have hinted at in Talk:Atheism, I understand that (now). The problem is with the many other Huggle, Twinkle, and vandalism program users that don't. I am sure I (and others) are doing plenty of things wrong. As you can see from my talk, I have not gotten too many comments on controversial reverts to my 25,000 or so reverts. It would seem what is needed, amongst may other and likely higher priorities, is a training guide. Thanks for the note! Jim1138 (talk) 23:31, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
Hmmm. A guideline would be useful. Binksternet (talk) 00:09, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

So we meet again (due to anti-vandalism activity)

I think we should be prepared to suggest a range block for the IP that's been making edits at COIbot. Three different IPs beginning with 50.97.XXX.XXX have caused trouble there. Or maybe ask to protect the page? --Jprg1966 (talk) 04:59, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Tomorrow (The Cranberries song)

Amazon.com is not spam it is a reliable source I have been watching you edit warring with an IP address when you are infact the one in the wrong. It is no different then putting iTunes up on a page. You should not revert reliable sources and claim them as spam. That's a no-no. Swifty*talk 04:21, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

If you do not believe me check Roses and tell me they are spamming. Swifty*talk 04:25, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
WP:OTHERSPAM Inclusion of one spam link is not a reason to include another I'll get advice from an admin before continuing my "rampage". Thanks for the note Jim1138 (talk) 04:32, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
Again Amazon.com is not spam if it was iTunes would have to be removed on SEVERAL pages as linking to the digital download page for source is important to Wikipedia to make sure that pages are accurate see WP:Reliable source and why they are needed. Swifty*talk 04:36, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
Amazon.com is also used to source CD singles as well for example Can't Fight the Moonlight. Swifty*talk 04:42, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
Can you cite policy on this matter? Maybe what is needed is something similar to Wikipedia:ISBN and Special:BookSources Click for sample to prevent one source from being preferred over another. Jim1138 (talk) 04:46, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
I would suggest you look at WP:IDONTLIKEIT Amazon.com is no different then iTunes and this is sourced in Can't Fight the Moonlight I will direct you to a GA article that uses Amazon.com and iTunes Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You). Swifty*talk 04:50, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
Your link does not mention whether or not an Amazon or iTunes link is spam. Would you please cite Wikipedia policy? I really don't care about one or the other. Jim1138 (talk) 04:55, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
Note this the release dates on that page all use amazon.com and iTunes. I was double sourcing not spamming HA! Swifty*talk 05:13, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

Raven's Progressive Matrices

Hello Beyond My Ken & Michael Ronayne: Any idea why the person (multiple IPs and now regestered as user talk:LANA5588) is removing the external link to www.RavensProgressiveMatrices.com in the article Raven's Progressive Matrices. Is this being removed as it is spam or some other violation of Wiki policy? It seems to be a pertinent link to me. I have asked LANA5588 twice why it is being removed without getting a reply. Any comment by either of you? Thanks Jim1138 (talk) 06:31, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Response: GERD treatment

Hello, Jim1138. I recieved your message about ten minutes ago. I realize you removed the information I inserted reguarding to the "treatment section" of the article GERD. I think it's a good idea to say anticholinergics are used to treat acid reflux because research has shown the muscarinic receptors secrete gastric production. I am also a board certified Pharmacologist and I have a particular interest about this subject :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 00AgentBond93 (talkcontribs) 04:06, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

That sort of information should be added, but it does need a reference. If I found a reference to GERD in the articles that you linked to, I would have left it. People here do get picky about references. Can you add a reference similar to the reference left for Mosapride or Baclofen? If you need assistance, please leave a message on this talk page. You could copy the reference style in the GERD article. I would be happy to convert your reference info into a proper citation. Also, may I suggest leaving some information on your background in your user talk page: User:00AgentBond93? Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 05:15, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

I noticed your note about 3RR on my talk page, but also that you failed to put a similar note on the other involved part - Ian.Thomson. Why is that? He's the one who's reverting without consensus. YourPalJesus (talk) 03:16, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

My edit to "Business"

Hey Jim,

I don't have a conflict of interest regarding this topic and I don't mention myself or any businesses I'm involved in. However I do think the content is helpful and that wikipedia is very light on good video content so I wanted to share this video. I'm new to making contributions to wikipeida though so I could use some help. Do you think the video is helpful? If so, what is the best way to add it? Any help is greatly appreciated as I really do care about the topic and spent a lot of time creating a video that I thought was helpful.

-Jack — Preceding unsigned comment added by JackCouch101 (talkcontribs) 04:39, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Please don't put your link at the top of the page. There is a "proper" format (wp:iar) for articles. I would suggest you post it on talk:Business and get other's opinions. Link the video mentioning the length. If you add it to the article, it should be listed under "External links" or worked into the article. Use a template such as Template:Cite video / Template:Cite video/doc or
<ref>[https://vimeo.com/43709092 Video: Business defined]</ref> Hope this helps. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 04:53, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

User:Trans4life

The user should clearly be reported, having WP:Edit warred across several articles and having changed solidly sourced definitions to biased, poorly-sourced definitions using the bisexualindex.org.uk as one source. This source clearly does not trump scholarly sources or even GLAAD sources. As you've seen, they've particularly changed text in a biased manner regarding pansexuality and asexuality. Yes, pansexuality is generally subsumed under bisexuality, but that does not mean that a user should edit Wikipedia articles to impose his or her views that there is no validity in distinguishing the terms. Like you, I reverted the editor on some articles (three in my case so far), but I don't believe that the user is likely going to stop this type of editing. 41.219.180.202 (talk) 18:20, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Excuse me, Could you add image "Keke-keke-palmer-7228404-816-1222.jpg" into "Commons" section, please? It's Available only in English Wikipedia. I wanted to add This image into a Polish part of Article Keke Palmer but I couldn't. Would you help me, please? 62.121.114.109. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.121.114.109 (talk) 11:28, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Looking into it. Unfortunately, it appears to be copied without permission. The comment by the uploader specifies the source and permission as being from a site that appears to have copied the image, not the original source. Jim1138 (talk) 02:09, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Help on improving articel for Judy Ann Santos

Hi Jim1138, I have been contributing articles in Wikipedia since 2004, however, I locked my old account, as such I had to create a new one, I saw your contributions for articles concernning biographies of living persons, will it be alright if I ask for you help on improving an article for Judy Ann Santos, I figured you don't have an idea of who she is, but I wanted to contribute in improving this article with a neutral point of view, i have already started with the lead, though the body/section headings need would need to be refurbished as it is mainly of fansite content. My aim is to have it tagged as one of the featured articles. Your inputs and help will be greatly appreciated Pseud 14 (talk) 07:44, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

I would love to help, but unfortunately, I am just a lowly recent changes patroller who has been accused of being a ClueBot sock. I might be good at turning your good article into a bad article if you are interested :) Jim1138 (talk) 08:29, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Why are you removing link to my paper - please write to me on talk or E-mail me - info is on the website. I wrote following:

Hi,

Link to my paper was put here many years ago by one of the contributors (I do not even know who).

Recently Marcin Ostajewski, Ph.D. student at UMK, Torun / PAN, Warsaw removed fraudulently this link, falsely accusing me of not having Ph.D. and being a fraud. I am considering to take this matter to court and to ask that he will be removed disciplinarily from Ph.D. program. I do not know his motives. After I caught him discrediting me on several websites, he wrote to me an apologize letter which is dishonest and does not tell the truth.

Here is what Marcin Ostajewski (from Torun, Poland) originally wrote here as Panszpik: (cur | prev) 16:49, 13 June 2012‎ Panszpik (talk | contribs)‎ . . (15,164 bytes) (-305)‎ . . (/* External links */ - →‎External links: The first link leads to a webpage of pseudoscientist who tries to sell devices that "cure cancer and normalise ones aura", the other one leads to a webpage that does not exist any more.) (undo)

BTW, the drawing of the thermodynamic system was made and put here by Libb Thims and is a copyright violation of my drawing in the paper "Life on Earth - flow of Energy and Entropy": http://www.digital-recordings.com/publ/publife.html I never gave him permission to do so. Also he changed the temperatures involved (why ?). So drawing does not make any scientific sense at this moment. It should be replaced with figure No.1 and No.2 from my paper. One can also use just figure No.1 and indicate temperatures which are on figure No.2

Best regards, Dr.Marek Roland, Canada
