Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Joseph Steinberg

The key to article inclusion is substantial coverage in reliable independent sources. Has Joseph Steinberg been written about? The other issue is that you can't say stuff like he's an expert or he's credit with unless you have very strong sourcing to that effect. What you have are these type of assertions to his own articles. But that's not how things work here. We don't get to write our own bios. Know what I mean? I suspect that this subject does not meet Wikipedia's standards for inclusion at this time. But if I can be of any assistance or you have questions I am happy to try to help. Vaya con Dios. Candleabracadabra (talk) 01:32, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi Candleabracadabra. Thanks for your help. Of course he has been written about. Usually in the context of his expertise. Google Joseph Steinberg cybersecurity and the like. You can see from the pages of his Forbes column how many people read and share what he writes. He's quoted all over the place and his work is also cited in patents. See the Google Scholar link on the page. I referenced some articles that reference him as an expert in response to your comment before. Do I need to put more? He's writing an advanced exam study textbook for the official certifying body of information security. They consider him an expert, as does Forbes, and all the people quoting him. Isn't that enough? Can you please point out what I should cut from the page if it sounds too much like an advertisement? Maybe take a stab at editing it? Also, I did not copy the bio he wrote.

--Jersey92 (talk) 05:59, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

No, I don't think it's enough. I don't see any articles about him or his work. As I said, the key is substantial coverage in reliable independent sources. Candleabracadabra (talk) 13:36, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
I posted a reference to 1,000 sites that quoted him about a recent information security event (Heartbleed). That is the kind of substantial coverage that experts in his field get. General media quote him or ask for his expertise. I posted some links to clearly reliable independent sources in the references. Patents and journals discuss his work. Is that what you were looking for? (I posted the link to those on Google Scholar.) The organization that administers the certification exams in the field has him writing its textbook. Do you think I should make the whole article shorter and just concentrate on the outside coverage? He's best known for thought leadership with different takes on topics in his field (some of his articles have been controversial as a result). That's why people quote him all over the place. Should I refocus the article on his writing rather that his expertise? Thanks.

Hello, Jersey92. You have new messages at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sweet Baby Jesus (film).

As I found sources dated 5 months after the supposed cancellation that gave us information on casting and production, and while almost tempted to improve the darn thing and argue a keep under WP:NFF (paragraph 3, I do feel enough sources are available to justify it being written of somewhere within these pages even if not in its own article. I thus added a well-sourced short paragraph at Peter Hewitt (director)#Career, and ask that you support a redirect. Best regards, Schmidt, Michael Q. 09:29, 25 May 2014 (UTC)

Asking WP:AN/I to help sort this out

I don't think you've done anything wrong but having an RfC competing with an Afd is a bit messy, so I've mentioned this matter to the administration. Obligatory 'plate: "  There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you." Actual link to the discussion is here. -- Kendrick7talk 02:21, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Links on disambiguation pages

Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Disambiguation pages#Individual_entries, there should only be one navigable link per entry on disambiguation pages. For example, the entry that points to Gaza City on the page Gaza should not link to Gaza Strip, and similarly, the entry for the Gaza Strip should not link to Palestinian Territories. --Joshua Issac (talk) 18:26, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Given that it appeared the speedy tag was just going to keep getting edit warred off, figured it was just better to AfD and have done with it. Hope you're not annoyed. Please don't pingback me! Dolescum (talk) 02:17, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Please Help

I would like to write an article about the Red Ribbon Ride, an organization that I volunteer for, and the page keeps getting deleted. How can I write an article about it, and the organization's history without it being deleted?

Nicholas nicholas.t.rustad@gmail.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nicholastrustad (talkcontribs) 22:26, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Is it "notable" per reliable sources? The current article does not give me that impression. Please see WP:GNG and WP:RS. --Jersey92 (talk) 05:01, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

draft

Is there a way to make a draft to my article? I want to be able to make a draft and come back to work on it later before I publish it so it doesn't get deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mflannery97 (talkcontribs) 20:44, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Move it to your userspace or draftspace. See: [1] and [2] --Jersey92 (talk) 20:52, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: GHOLAI DEVI

Hello Jersey92. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of GHOLAI DEVI, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not sure A7 can be applied to deities. PROD or AFD might be more appropriate. Thank you. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 01:46, 9 August 2014 (UTC)

OK. Went with PROD. --Jersey92 (talk) 02:55, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
I see the article was blanked with just some short foreign text. Will re-nominate for SD. Article was not created through AfC and was created by what appears to be be a WP:SPA. --Jersey92 (talk) 19:53, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
Admin deleted it. --Jersey92 (talk) 03:21, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Terry Reintke

Hello Jersey92. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Terry Reintke, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article makes a credible assertion of importance or significance, sufficient to pass A7. Thank you. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 01:47, 9 August 2014 (UTC)

"German MP" is sufficient assertion of importance to pass A7, since we consider politicians at that level to be notable. But I did tag it with BLPPROD. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 01:53, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
Is she a German MP? I thought a German member of the European Parliament (MEP). Her website. Is that still sufficiently notable? --Jersey92 (talk) 03:00, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
Sorry, I meant MEP. Either way, that's enough to avert the A7. If you want, add that to the article as a ref to remove the PROD as well. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 16:37, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
Added info. --Jersey92 (talk) 15:05, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

Hello Jersey92. Hello Jersey92. Proposed deletion of Emma Ferrer

The article Emma Ferrer has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Alas, Ferrer has not achieved notability yet, and her relationship to Audrey Hepburn does not make her notable

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I'm not sure. The cover of a major fashion magazine plus more minor stuff?

--Jersey92 (talk) 04:31, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

If she wasn't Hepburn's granddaughter, she wouldn't be on the cover of a fashion magazine, would she? Oiyarbepsy (talk) 04:34, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
Couldn't the same be said about many people who got opportunities because of relatives? She is on the cover. She has been written about... --Jersey92 (talk) 04:37, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
Not exactly. George W Bush is notable, but because of his own accomplishments, not his father's. Drew Barrymore would be notable even if her famous family wasn't famous. So, you would need to demonstrate that Ferrer has her own accomplishments, that would make her famous if she wasn't Hepburn's granddaughter, just like Barrymore and Bush. Merely being profiled on a magazine doesn't count - magazine's routinely profile people with no other possible claim to fame. Oiyarbepsy (talk) 14:13, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
Not just profiled. On the cover. As a model. Also, notability is not from accomplishments but from people's perceptions of the person. Do they speak about the person? Has he/she been written about? To your point: what exactly were Kim Kardashian's accomplishments when she became notable? --Jersey92 (talk) 16:39, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
