Montmagny railway station

It is redundant to say that Montmagny railway station is a station. "Montmagny railway station" is not a proper name, with "railway station" already being descriptive of what it is. "Rue de la Station" is the proper name of a street, and obviously not a station. All adjoining stations down the the line have the same format in the article lead. Secondarywaltz (talk) 20:37, 25 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Note that Montmagny is not a railway station, but Montmagny railway station is a Via Rail flag stop in Montmagny, Quebec. Secondarywaltz (talk) 22:03, 25 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
Is the name of the railway station "Montmagny" or "Montmagny railway station"? Note that the railway station doesn't have to be the Wikipedia primary topic for the title "Montmagny" to have the real-world name "Montmagny". That aside, the "Montmagny railway station is a flag stop" definition format works too. -- JHunterJ (talk)

Fantasy magazine

Hi -- I just saw your move of Fantasy (1938 magazine) to Fantasy (magazine). I put it there because there's another magazine titled Fantasy that appeared in Britain shortly after WW2. Would you mind reversing the move? I'll create the stub for the other magazine this evening; I've been meaning to do it for years. Thanks. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 14:10, 15 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

It can be moved back (and I'll be happy to do so) after the stub is created. Per WP:PRECISION, we don't prematurely qualify titles that are yet ambiguous on Wikipedia. -- JHunterJ (talk) 14:50, 15 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Sounds good; I'll ping you when it's done. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 15:02, 15 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Done. If you would reverse the move I'm happy to fix the dab page. Thanks. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 16:19, 15 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Also done. Thanks! -- JHunterJ (talk) 15:05, 16 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Typhoon Koppu (disambiguation)

Hey, I noticed you moved that page, saying it is not a disambiguation page. However, the tropical cyclone WikiProject has 703 of these pages, which, as you noted, are technically a set index page. I'm of the opinion that those pages aren't needed in the first place, but that's for a different discussion. Essentially, these pages have a tiny bit more detail than List of historic tropical cyclone names, which is arguably the parent article to these set index articles. As there are 703 of these articles, they should all be consistent, which is why I've started a discussion here, in case you want to provide input. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:48, 16 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I figured there were a bunch of them. I've moved the ones I've come across before, and will continue to do so. Even incremental improvements are welcome, even if that leaves some inconsistency. I'll take a look at the discussion. -- JHunterJ (talk) 17:13, 16 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
But why undo the incremental improvement? Consider moving Typhoon Koppu (disambiguation) back to List of typhoons named Koppu, rather than favoring consistency over correctness. -- JHunterJ (talk) 17:23, 16 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, JHunterJ. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:48, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi JHunterJ.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of King (title)

Hello JHunterJ,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged King (title) for deletion, because it appears to duplicate an existing Wikipedia article, Monarch.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. CaroleHenson (talk) 05:59, 21 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Bundling of citations

I noticed you were bundling some citations on LaMia Airlines Flight 2933. Is this a standard practice? I've never seen it before and it impedes using references in multiple places. Raymie (tc) 18:13, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Yes: WP:BUNDLING. It shouldn't impede future use; if a second place arises for the same citation, it can be readily unbundled. -- JHunterJ (talk) 19:27, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Ah, OK. I've never seen that before. Thanks for responding. Raymie (tc) 19:57, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Bill Sorenson

A tag has been placed on Bill Sorenson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Invitation to Admin confidence survey

Hello,

Beginning in September 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Anti-harassment tool team will be conducting a survey to gauge how well tools, training, and information exists to assist English Wikipedia administrators in recognizing and mitigating things like sockpuppetry, vandalism, and harassment.

The survey should only take 5 minutes, and your individual response will not be made public. This survey will be integral for our team to determine how to better support administrators.

To take the survey sign up here and we will send you a link to the form.

We really appreciate your input!

Please let us know if you wish to opt-out of all massmessage mailings from the Anti-harassment tools team.

WDCR move

You gave the reason of moving WDCR (defunct) to WDCR (AM) was radio naming conventions, but the naming convention IS to move a defunct station to (defunct) once it has been deleted & another station has taken the call. Please revert this edit to WDCR (defunct). Thank you.Stereorock (talk) 19:59, 14 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

I checked the guidelines before making the move. "defunct" is used (there) with stations that don't have callsigns. The section on naming stations with callsigns doesn't mention using "defunct", only "AM" and "FM". Please confirm. I'll move it back, but the guidelines should probably be clarified if that's the intent. Cheers! -- JHunterJ (talk) 20:10, 14 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Move of Zhili Army (Fengtian clique)

Hello, I saw that you moved the Zhili Army (Fengtian clique) without discussion. Please revert this move, as there were numerous Zhili Armies in Chinese history - one, the Zhili clique's Zhili Army, being the enemy of the Fengtian clique's Zhili Army. While these other Zhili Armies have not yet their own articles, the Zhili clique's Zhili Army was in fact the most prominent Zhili Army, so it would confuse people if the extra "(Fengtian clique)" is not added to the Zhili Army article you moved. Applodion (talk) 13:28, 8 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Please see WP:PRECISION. Disambiguating phrases are only added to article titles when Wikipedia disambiguation is needed. If "Zhili Army" is not a good title for this article, another title (without parenthetical qualifier) will be needed. Zhili clique's Zhili Army perhaps? Readers would not be confused because the lede sentence of the article describes the topic. Alternatively, is there an article that Zhili Army (Zhili clique) could redirect to until an article could be written? -- JHunterJ (talk) 13:50, 8 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
It could be redirected to the simple Zhili clique article, as the clique and the Army are often equated (though in fact the Zhili clique was not exactly the same as the Zhili clique's Zhili Army). While not a perfect solution, I think it would suffice for the moment - I plan to write an article about the Zhili clique's Zhili Army in the future, but I have no idea when I will find the time for it.   Happy Holidays
From Stave one of Dickens A Christmas Carol

Old Marley was as dead as a door-nail. Mind! I don’t mean to say that I know, of my own knowledge, what there is particularly dead about a door-nail. I might have been inclined, myself, to regard a coffin-nail as the deadest piece of ironmongery in the trade. But the wisdom of our ancestors is in the simile; and my unhallowed hands shall not disturb it, or the Country’s done for. You will therefore permit me to repeat, emphatically, that Marley was as dead as a door-nail.
