Speedy deletion nomination of Management and Strategy Institute

edit

Hello Huskers110110,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Management and Strategy Institute for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. LouiseS1979 (talk) 22:56, 27 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Defense Acquisition University, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Virtual. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Virginia Tech Richmond Center

edit

All articles should start with "title is..." followed by a concrete, non-promotional statement. In this case, I'm not exactly sure what Virginia Tech Richmond Center actually is. Is this a branch campus? Or something else? Oiyarbepsy (talk) 00:36, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Virginia Tech Roanoke Center

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Virginia Tech Roanoke Center, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Thank you for your recent contributions, such as Virginia Tech Roanoke Center. Getting started creating new articles on Wikipedia can be tricky, and you might like to try creating a draft version first, which you can then ask for feedback on if necessary, with less risk of deletion. Do make sure you also read help available to you, including Your First Article and the Tutorial. You might also like to try the Article Wizard, which has an option to create a draft version. Thank you. Widefox; talk 01:00, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add soapboxing, promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, as you did at Virginia Tech Roanoke Center, you may be blocked from editing. Please explain yourself. Creating several promo articles. Stop now, and discuss. Do you have a WP:COI ? Widefox; talk 01:01, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

OK. Why the promotional tone, and creation of several articles that fail WP:GNG? Also, see WP:PRICES. I'm not convinced, but remain open minded but you'd do well to draft first, as these all should be deleted. Best to use WP:AfC in future. Widefox; talk 01:12, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
Your account is an WP:SPA editing / creating / promoting Virginia Tech. Several editors have queried you, but as well as contesting deletion, these are all promo and fail WP:GNG. If you want to keep them, suggest asking for them to be moved to draft space so you can get feedback. Widefox; talk 01:24, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
Respectfully WP:SPA is not true I worked on a number of non-Virginia Tech articles in the past. Huskers110110 (talk) 01:29, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

I did. The creation of several promo VT articles. Thought you'd appreciate the opportunity to clear this up, as it's an unusual pattern. Widefox; talk 01:52, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
My contribution history shows I worked on atleast 10 other articles that had absolutely nothing to do with Virginia Tech. Not sure what else to say.Huskers110110 (talk)
I believe you, but all I've checked are VT or affiliated! Can't you name one or two for me? Widefox; talk 02:11, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
I made an edits to Professional certification and ISACA articles.Huskers110110 (talk) 02:13, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

OK, I got one Emergency Management Institute. (Template:Wake Forest University added VT). OK, technically not an SPA I take it back, excuse the questioning. But.. the issue with all these edits (and most of the articles) seems to come from over use of WP:PRIMARY sources. That's enough to come across promotional (in itself). Articles just with just primaries fail WP:GNG and may be deleted. We build articles with secondaries. They still need drafting first IMHO. Suggest you seek further opinions (now I've grilled you). Proposed deletion of Virginia Tech National Capital Region

edit

The article Virginia Tech National Capital Region has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Advert with prices, and promo. Fails WP:GNG. WP:TNT. promo creator should draft first to risk deletion.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi, sorry to bother you again as I thought I'd given you too much of a grilling and was willing to leave these issues to other editors... but at help you were advised to continue discussion with me so I'm back. This edit [1] removed the refimprove (from July 2007), although it add sources so technically OK, they are only primary. The article fails WP:GNG and needs basing on secondaries. I hope this is clear, and until these sourcing issues are addressed, all these articles come across as highly promotional which reflects on your account. I hope you can see how other editors will just assume you have an undisclosed COI (even though you claim you don't). Widefox; talk 09:53, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello Huskers110110, and welcome to Wikipedia. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. several of us have noted there are copyvio issues with these articles. Thank you. Widefox; talk 10:25, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Please stop the Wikipedia:Bullying. I have already put in a complaint to the Administrator and stop contacting me. Huskers110110 (talk) 10:28, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
Since MojoHand isn't available, I thought I would take a look. I don't see anything remotely approaching bullying in the post above from Widefox. He is actually giving you some really good advice and some information to help you create better articles and become a better editor here at Wikipedia. I would listen to what he has to say. - NeutralhomerTalk12:53, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • Husker, I don't see this as wikibullying, and I'm generally in agreement with Widefox, except that none of these articles should be deleted if you rewrite them. It does look like you largely modeled, and possibly outright stole, your articles from the schools website. The problem with doing that (aside from violating the University's copyright), is that the website isn't really meant to inform, but to sell. As an example, the promotion language you used at Virginia Tech Richmond Center confuses me, since, after all, isn't every part of Virginia Tech responsible for carrying out the university's three missions? Do you see how "carry out three core missions" looks like advertising copy and provides zero information?
  • Based on my understanding of what the "Richmond Center" is (you never did tell me), I would start it like this: "Virginia Tech Richmond Center is a branch campus of Virginia Tech located in Richmond, Virginia." That sentence is informative and factual, and tells users what they want to know. For an better (not perfect) example of what your article should look like, have a look at University of Washington Bothell. Oiyarbepsy (talk) 12:58, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi Huskers. I'm sorry you are feeling attacked, but the folks above are trying to give you some good advice. Wikipedia does have a learning curve, and it can be hard for new editors. However, we do have to be very careful about not using text from other websites, as it exposes Wikipedia to copyright issues. I am happy to help if I can.--Mojo Hand (talk) 21:51, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
