FL Main page proposal edit

You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination recently. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual content will resemble the current content at the featured content page. Such output would probably start at the bottom of the main page. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 19:25, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

LOTD proposal edit

You have nominated a recently successful WP:FL. There have been two recent proposals to begin a List of the Day feature on the main page, which have both received majorities but have not been approved as overwhelming support sufficient to change the main page. WP:LOTDP is a new proposal to try to get the ball rolling based on the original proposal. You can voice your thoughts on its talk page. Basically, what the proposal entails is attempting to run an official trial, and then vote after the trial run on whether to change the main page. Support to run a trial requires much less consensus than support to change the main page. Should we succeed at eventually getting such a feature on the main page it would tentatively look like this. Whether or not you support an experimental trial or not you should come discuss the matter at WP:LOTDP's talk page. I apologize if you have either already voiced your opinion on this matter or already tired of hearing about it.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 21:35, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Featured List of the Day Experiment edit

There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 17:36, 16 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hyperbowl edit

Hey there, I'm trying to improve the Hyperbowl article. I saw that you had created the article and wanted to know if you could provide any feedback; I'm trying to clean it up, make it read more like a Wikipedia article should. Problem is, I've only played it in the arcade, and I've never played the home version. Unless I can find notability to create two articles (doubtful) I'll be putting more info in on both versions as I find it. If you have any comments on how it turns out, or if you've played the home version, I'd appreciate the insight, as I'm currently trying to track down a copy. Thanks! Stats formatting edit

Hey, I noticed you were indenting "same year" stats within tables. I don't think this follows the manual of style (actually I don't think it's specified). What I've always done is made same-year statistics have the same background colour - it tends to look neater.-Wafulz (talk) 17:57, 7 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Featured Topic Drive

By Maxim

The original featured topic drive, initiated by Scorpion0422, has concluded succesfully. National Hockey League awards is now a featured topic, with 24 articles in total. Of them, 20 are featured lists, one is a featured article, and the other three are trophy articles that were too short to become featured lists. Eight users signed up to help out, shown here. The next Featured Topic hasn't been decided upon, and the ideas and organization for it fell apart. If you have any ideas, don't hesitate to share them at WT:HOCKEY.

Notes
  • More editors are needed to help out with the newsletter. The newsletter creator doesn't have an infinite nor perfect supply of ideas, and thus he might omit some interesting news.
  • Portal:Ice hockey is being considered for featured status.

Template:Jackie Chan filmography edit

Hi, I noticed you created this template. Just to let you know, it will probably end up getting deleted. I worked on similar templates a while ago, entitled "Jackie Chan films" (and "Sammo Hung films"), but they were both removed early this year - they ended up on Wikipedia:Templates for deletion, and were subsequently deleted on consensus along with several others such as "Fred Astaire films". Basically, filmographies are encouraged instead of actor-specific templates like the one you created. Gram123 (talk) 18:05, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

RE - the above. I've now listed it at the following link - AFD for Jackie Chan films. Lugnuts (talk) 09:32, 5 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
You can always add a "See also" section to each page, and add a link back to the main filmography. This will do two things i) link all the films and ii) not leave the filmography page orphaned. Lugnuts (talk) 16:01, 5 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Puzz3DEiffeltower.JPG edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Puzz3DEiffeltower.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Cody Hodgson edit

Hey! I noticed that in your recent editing of Cody Hodgson, you moved some information around to places it shouldn't be. Originally, the page had an international play section in the prose area of the article, the same format you can see in the FA and GA articles of hockey players. This way, we can keep the international stats with the career statistics section while having all the prose together (see Eric Brewer (ice hockey) for example). Anyways, I just noticed you moved the international play prose to be with the stats, and by the format of this project, it shouldn't exactly be that way. Just a heads up for future reference! – Nurmsook! talk... 21:18, 4 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't really see how a FA or GA can be considered an exception. If we want all of these articles to become FA or GA eventually, then why wouldn't we want to format them in that direction now? Rather than moving something away from what it should become. You mentioned WP:HOCKEY/PPF, but even it mentions that if you are getting into prose rather than just a list, it could be included with the rest of the prose, as is the case with these "top" articles such as Joe Sakic, Eric Brewer (ice hockey), Dominik Hašek, Martin Brodeur, etc. Also, for your example of Alexei Kovalev, his international play section just lists the tournaments he has played in. It includes no prose, something the Hodgson article does in fact have. So, per the PPF, this is fine. It just seemed off to me that you moved the prose from the Hodgson article away from the rest of the prose, and with that, away from FA and GA standards, which in reality just worsens the format of the article. You can't really compare apples and oranges. I've moved it back to the way it was before for the time being, but if you have any further issues with that, please feel free to share them with me, and if needed, the WikiProject as a whole. But for now, I just really don't get your argument. – Nurmsook! talk... 06:59, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:SonicCDWarp.png edit

Thank you for uploading File:SonicCDWarp.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Tagged for notability and lack of sources since 2014. Doesn't seem to meet WP:NVG. Only YouTube videos in Google search, and a couple of passing mentions in XP how-to Google Books search.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
