Unless something has changed...

Please remember the total tally you are allowed of simultaneous AFC submissions. I won't restate it here. Please also remember that I only leave these messages for you to seek to ensure your continued ability to edit. I value your contributions, even those that are declined. This shows your current AFC submissions FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 19:14, 20 February 2022 (UTC)

Instead of posting this notice why not just move them to mainspace User:Timtrent? "Problem" solved. FloridaArmy (talk) 20:42, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
Instead of snarking, please just understand the spirit of goodwill in which this message was left. I'm perfectly happy not to be on your side of that will assist. FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 21:01, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
Who's snarking? You posted a warning message, and I inquired why you don't do something to fix the problem. FloridaArmy (talk) 21:14, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
A great deal of your pending AFC submissions simply aren't ready for the mainspace, moving them doesn't "fix" the problem so much as just change it. In particular, you need to work your use of the citation templates, like in this edit. It would also help to develop your articles more, instead of writing just a few sentences like this.Evvekk (talk) 21:40, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
You cite a draft I started that I haven't submitted as a problem? I also noticed you removed citations from an article I was working on.
Wikipedia is a collaborative enterprise and it's not my responsibility to work single-handedly on any subject.
The problem is that notable subjects are excluded from Wikipedia. This is what needs fixing. Not attacking someone working on the problem. FloridaArmy (talk) 22:11, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
Please don't think I'm trying to attack. Like Timtrent says, you do a lot of great work in an underrepresented area. I've never once said any of your stubs are non-notable. I'm just saying that a reason a lot of your pending stuff isn't in mainspace is because it still needs work.
Valid point on me pointing out a draft, so here's another example. In Hardy Brian, you cited Sipress, Joel (2008). "A Narrowing of Vision: Hardy L. Brian and the Fate of Louisiana Populism". The Journal of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era. 7 (1): 43–67. doi:10.1017/S1537781400001729. JSTOR 25144508. S2CID 163650688 – via JSTOR. It's 26 pages on the man, his life, his work, and the impact he had on his community. The only thing you pulled from it was a single sentence that said he existed. And that's fine, it's just not well developed.
RE: removing citations: If you're talking about edits like this, it's because if all you're saying is the work exists, then the existence of the thing is citation enough. Here's another example of the same. I'm having a hard time finding any other kind situation where I simply removed references vice changed the cite template. If you find a situation, or have any issues with my edits, just let me know and we can talk it over.Evvekk (talk) 23:01, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
And I thought I sent you a friendly message. Ah well. The story of the written word versus the spoken word. I'm not going to have a fight with you over this. I care, but not enough to get bent out of shape over it. You create a very useful quantity of decent stubs, some bigger than that. You major on an under-represented area, and your work is a net benefit. Good. I reckon the reason you survive without further formal censure is that others hold the same view as I do about your work. Good. But please stop pushing the envelope. FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 22:25, 20 February 2022 (UTC)

Draft comments

Hey, is there a better way for you to leave comments like "Notable as a prize winning author and leading legal scholar." and "Daniel Sharfstein should link here" (on Draft:Daniel J. Sharfstein) than plain text at the top of the draft? It's another thing that the reviewer needs to remember to clean up after accepting, which isn't a huge deal but does get a little annoying sometimes. One option might be to use the AfC comment template, which is cleaned up automatically by the script. Rusalkii (talk) 18:41, 19 February 2022 (UTC)

I don't know of a better way. I think the discussion should be together. I don't think it's helpful that it's not threaded like other discussions and I don't think complocating it with templates is worthwhile. I am happy to remove the comments once an entry is approved and don't find it difficult. As far as maintenance instructions those normally go at the top and I am happy to do the redirects. They are important and I don't leave them sitting uselessly on articles as is commonly done with so many of our maintenance templates. Thabks so much for your help and reviews! I am happy to do whatI can to make ot easier but I am stuck with using AfC so I have to adapt as best I can. Cheers. FloridaArmy (talk) 01:20, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
FA and {[ping|Rusalkii}} I agree there should be a better way. Rusalkii, do you mind maybe posting something this on the AfC talkpage? There could be a template or something that none of us know about (or something). Whatever the solution AfC reviewers need to be aware so we are on the same page. FA, in the longer term, lets work towards getting away from you having to submit through AfC. I know its frustrating to say the least but in order for that to happen I think you need a strong record of "approval ready" drafts. Many are but still some are not and some of the issues are simple things like citation formatting (as noted below). What do you think about about seeing if some stats could be gathered like the percentage of your drafts that are accepted? Do you think that would help? S0091 (talk) 01:45, 20 February 2022 (UTC)

I can't see what was removed but I do recall accidentally pasting a short section of text. I tried to fix it and modify it sufficiently to meet muster. And it was cited. It also appears to me that the original source of the text are AMA documents from the late 19th and early 20th century. But I will try to be more careful. I don't think Amistad is the copyright holder if there is any becaus the source are AMA records as per the note at the bottom of the Amostad page. Are they violating a copyright? http://amistadresearchcenter.tulane.edu/archon/?p=collections/controlcard&id=28 And the AMA records are in turn from the school itself which no longer exists as that instution which ceased operations as a lriavte entity some 70+ years ago. Legislators are kind of a specialty of mine, and I'm proud to say I've done several articles on African-American legislators (mostly freedmen) from my home state of Tennessee. Feel free to drop me a note if you're having trouble with articles. --Orange Mike | Talk 03:55, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

Will do. Thanks very much for the kind offer of assistance. Is there a book on Temnessee's African American legislators of the Reconstruction era? Jim Crow? I recall working on a couple but not sure how many there were? FloridaArmy (talk) 19:23, 5 March 2022 (UTC)

  • ooh, glad to see this was one of yours I cleared from the queue. I think there's probably more sourcing available especially about what made Sun rise when Son faltered, but this is fine for mainspace. Star Mississippi 21:06, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
User:Star Mississippi I always love to see entries expanded and often do so myself. We have to start somewhere. Thanks for your good works. Draft:Robert R. Jackson seems good to go? FloridaArmy (talk) 21:19, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
thanks for flagging that one. Let me see what I can do on it to be sure it will survive in mainspace, but I think you're right that it's mostly good to go.
Happy to help on any of your history focused ones, but if you have any museum/culture ones pending, especially feel free to ping on those. Star Mississippi 21:37, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
User:Star Mississippi I think Draft:Yamekraw is a fascinating subject and neither the locality, the song it inspired, or the movie the song inspired appear to be covered on Wikipedia. For reasons that baffle me since I'm always told to merge stuff this entry has been blocked for having the audacity to cover all three. Thanks for your interest and help. Please let me know if I can be useful in some way. FloridaArmy (talk) 21:48, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

Draft:Booker T. Washington School (Montgomery, Alabama) where a teenager went before being executed in a sham trial after being accused of raping a white woman is certainly missing from our coverage. Another girl at the school who was inspired by her teachers and the injustice of her schoolmate's execution refused to give up her seat on a bus for a white woman and was jailed and convicted. Her appeals went to the Supreme Court with Fred Gray as her attorney and she won. But her case didn't rwceive the notoriety that Rosa Parks received when she did the same thing months later because she was a more attractive figure to media and advocates.

There's also Draft:Sterling High School (South Carolina) where Jesse Jackson and other notables went.

Most of schools that served African Americans closed in the wake of desegregation and remain omitted from Wikipedia.

C'est la vie? I did an entry on a school that won its league's state football championship 8 times. EIGHT but still can't get it accepted. FloridaArmy (talk) 22:00, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the list above, and the background. Will see what I can do with these in the coming weeks. In the interim, Robert R. Jackson is done. There's more than can be added, especially from this article, but I ran short on time today. Would love to find more on his work with the Leland Giants. Talk about a well rounded man in terms of all of his work. Star Mississippi 22:18, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

    • Added some info! She's held so many positions at the UN and elsewhere, it's hard to include them all. Feel free to add any significant positions if it seems I've missed important ones.
It may also be worth asking Women in Red if she seems to pass notability or not? I think it seems she does (even just from routine coverage of her appointments and duties), but I'm not used to writing about diplomats or politicians. - Whisperjanes (talk) 19:20, 10 March 2022 (UTC)
