Your username
editHi. Up front, I can just hear you thinking "what, this again?". I'm sorry for that, and I'll try to keep it brief.
I saw the explanation on your user page, and understand it. However, there is a large part of the world whose knowledge of a particularly bad time in human history during which the word was mis-appropriated and perverted along with symbols like the swastika, exceeds their knowledge about the origins of those things. To those people, (including me, I'm afraid), it creates a perception that is incorrect (based on your user page statement). Since I only recently started seeing your name at the help desks, perhaps it will go away in time (I will be "de-sensitized" to it), but users who see it for the first time will largely have that reaction, just as they would in seeing a swastika (though the symbol is perhaps worse).
I'll note that I think you recently changed the font of your signature to "Stencil", which is also associated with military things (i.e., it resembles labeling that is stenciled on all sorts of military supplies and hardware), further reinforcing the mistaken impression.
I would ask you to seriously consider a change, even to something like "Field Marshal A", or something totally different. I'm sure the admins at WP:CHU would be happy to help.
Thanks again for hearing me out. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 23:01, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
- Clarified —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 04:51, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- AlanM1, I understand what you mean. I guess I just have genuinely terrible luck because Aryan is my real name, the one that I was born with. Add to that my obsession for military history and technology. I have faced problems quite a few times, especially when I was on a trip to Germany, so I surely can see what non-Indians (not the native Americans) associate with my name. I am willing to change my name to 'Field Marshal' because I don't want to stir up drama and also because I hate Nazism and being associated with it, even out of ignorance, is pretty bad/hurtful. I appreciate that you brought up the matter with me though I still feel that it is really unfair that people from a certain culture or with a certain name are mis-associated with such a horrible thing. Regards, Field Marshal
Aryan(talk) 05:46, 15 July 2020 (UTC)- I agree that it's unfair, but I think you'll be doing the right thing. Thanks again. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 13:15, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- AlanM1, Thank YOU. Also, FYI, name change request will take about a month to be processed. Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 13:18, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- I see the request at meta:Steward requests/Username changes#Field Marshal Aryan. Too bad it has to be drawn out so long, but I guess that's an intentional delay for usurpations in case those ancient users are still lurking and want those accounts somehow. BTW, I'm not an admin – sorry if I said anything to give you that impression. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 14:36, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- AlanM1, Oh darn, yes, you aren't an admin. It's my fault. I have no idea why I thought so! Anyways, you have been here long enough to know all what an admin would know. Yeah the delay is pretty long but I'm 99% sure that the guy (Field Marshal from ar-wiki) isn't going to respond. Being a global sysop must be tough though. About the article Vishwakarma (caste)
editThat is a wrong information acc. to various courts judgements they are Brahmin. https://vishwakarmas.webs.com/chittoor-jilla-adalath this is a link of a webpage in which all court cases are described. http://haryanascbc.gov.in/list-of-backward-classes this is a link of haryana gov. official website of obc caste list where they mention Vishwakarma as Panchal Brahmin, Jagid Brahmin, Dhiman Brahmin. May be you understand now because this reference is from government list. Mr.B.Panchal (talk) 18:01, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
- Hello Mr.B.Panchal, Your edit was undone because you added external link to the body of the article. You can reinstate them but please make sure to follow the Manual of Style. Leeds
editMake your changes as you wish but don't revert all my contributions. As an impartal editor, I will revise any objections to see whether it is POV or whether it is factual .Sunderland were rank outsiders for the FA Cup of 1973 and it is sourced. Leeds dominated the match and that too can be verified. The Peacocks Are Back (talk) 07:56, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
- The Peacocks Are Back: I don't see the sentence/paragraph being supported by any citation at all. It is fairly justified to assume 'better side having won' as an WP:NPOV issue. Specially when I see what your userpage reads. I will still wait and hope youdo act neutrally. Regards, Field Marshal (talk) 08:02, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

editDo you have a reference where it indicates its without a "h"? 106.51.241.120 (talk) 10:38, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
- The thing is, you should not be creating inconsistency between the article title and the name used in the article. If you want a change, you should request a page move. Regards, Field Marshal (talk) 10:42, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

RedWarn quick templates
editHello, just a tip - I've noticed you've made an extra warning pack - you might prefer to add <!-- ##RW UNDERDATE## -->
to your quick template content, rather than a fixed header as this will cause RedWarm to automatically place the notice under the date header (i.e. July 2020) as if it was added using RedWarn's built in new notice feature. Ed6767 talk! 21:24, 27 July 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot, Ed6767. I thought that it was just not compatible with Quick templates! Regards, Field Marshal (talk) 21:35, 27 July 2020 (UTC)
DYK for Indian locomotive class WDG-4G
editOn 28 July 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Indian locomotive class WDG-4G, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that it took 190 litres (42 imp gal; 50 US gal) of paint to complete the livery of the Indian locomotive class WDG-4G (pictured)? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Indian locomotive class WDG-4G. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Indian locomotive class WDG-4G), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
Regarding your nomination withdrawal of Alok Industries
editYou mentioned in the edit summary Not personally convinced about notability...
. In my opinion, you should have really not withdrawn the nom in that case. And I apologise if my keep argument improperly compelled you to withdraw. You can re-nominate the article too. I'll make sure I cut the BS and keep my argument brief if I am around. And I'd feel really guilty if you were discouraged in any way, to participate in AfDs because of that nom. That is the last thing I'd want. We need more participation there, not less. Also, good luck for your exams. - hako9 (talk) 02:39, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
- Hako9: To be honest, you did come out as rude, but let's forget that. It's not like I am an Oshwah all the time either. I don't think I will be active enough to participate in the afd discussion even if it happened so no need of reinstating it back. Thanks for the luck and same to you. Regards, Field Marshal (talk) 09:48, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

editGood evening, the page "Unipolar motor" is wrong: the unipolar motors aren't homopolar motors which have their Wikipedia page.
