MSU Interview

Dear Dravecky,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

• Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
• Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
• All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
• All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
• The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. Santorum DAB

Hi,
can you please get to some consensus on the talk page about the wording? You say it has to be your way per MOSDAB, JHunterJ says it doesn't per MOSDAB. Edit summaries clearly are not sufficient to get to a consensus here.

The consensus is already long established but the dab page is being tag-teamed by editors whose intent appears to run counter to that consensus. Also, disambiguation pages disambiguate. It's what they do for a living. As Wikipedia is famously "not censored", removing the precise description from the only item in the dab page out of concern that a person seeking out that article might be exposed to a word that triggers some bot's filters is... absurd. That said, I'd rather be creating content than spending more time wading in muck that this whole issue has become. I'll leave the drama to the laser-focused warring sides and the political news media that continues to cover this aspect of the story, making Wikipedia look like fools. - Dravecky (talk) 23:31, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

• This is completely unrelated to the DAB page, but related to one of the Santorum pages, Rick Santorum to be exact. Is there anyway to find a link that confirms that Rick Santorum was born in Winchester, Virginia? The local papers around here have mentioned him in their coverage of the 2012 debates, primaries and whatnot, but never mentioned him being born in Winchester. I figure this would be something that would come up in an article since he was born here, but nothing. I am beginning to believe that it might be a long-standing vandalism, but don't want to kick another hornet's nest. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 23:47, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Nomination of Jersey Circus for deletion
