Speedy deletion nomination of Angel Amateur Boxing Club edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Angel Amateur Boxing Club, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Speedy deletion nomination of Angel amerture boxing club edit

Hello Dannyboy gallagher,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Angel amerture boxing club for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. Take a look at our suggestions for essential content in short articles to learn what should be included.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

Removing Speedy at Angel amerture boxing club edit

Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for taking the time to create a page here. It might not have been your intention, but you recently removed a speedy deletion tag from a page you created yourself. Because Wikipedia policy does not allow the creator of the page to remove deletion tags, an automated program has replaced the deletion tag you removed from Angel amerture boxing club. Please do not continue to remove the deletion tag, instead, if you disagree with the deletion, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the page by clicking this link. Once there, select the button that says Click here to contest this speedy deletion.
  2. This will take you to the talk page, where you can make your case by explaining why the page does not meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion.

Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do. For further help about the deletion, you could contact the user who first placed the tag or a highly active user who is willing to help with deletion. This message was left by a bot, so please do not contact the bot about the deletion. Thank you, - SDPatrolBot (talk) 10:06, 14 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Angel amerture boxing club. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Click here to contest this speedy deletion, which appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. - SDPatrolBot (talk) 10:42, 14 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

This is your last warning. The next time you remove a speedy deletion notice from a page you have created yourself, as you did at Angel amerture boxing club, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. - SDPatrolBot (talk) 10:45, 14 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Reported to AIV edit

Hi Dannyboy gallagher, this is a notice to let you know that I have reported your removal of speedy deletion templates at Angel amerture boxing club to administrators. An administrator should assess the report in a short while, and they will take any appropriate actions. Please wait for an administrator before taking any further actions yourself. Thank you, - SDPatrolBot (talk) 10:53, 14 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Angel amerture boxing club requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Advice about editing problems edit

If you wish to return to editing after the block expires, as well as the issues mentioned above, you should be aware of the following problems.

  • A Wikipedia article needs to be written from a neutral point of view, and it is not acceptable to add your own commentary or opinions. For example, saying that a boxer was "showing his heart and determintion" [sic], or that a trainer is "fantastic" or "great", or describing a fight as "one of the most one sided fights seen" is unacceptable.
  • Much of your editing has been promotional in character. For example, your repeatedly created pages about the Angel Amateur Boxing Club have been unambiguously written with the intention of telling us how great the club is. Wikipedia is not a medium for promotion of any sort.
  • Information must be capable of being verified by provision of reliable sources. You should not insert content purely on the basis of your personal knowledge, without any independent evidence being available.
  • You should generally avoid writing about subjects to which you have a close personal connection, as it is likely to be difficult in such cases to write neutrally, even if you intend to do so. This includes, for example, writing about yourself, other members of your family, organisations that you or your relatives are or have belonged to, and so on.
  • I'm afraid your command of English is not perfect, with the result that some of your writing is not of the standard that we like. Some things (such as "determintion" for "determination" in the quote above) may be just slips, but sometimes there have been mistakes which go beyond that. For example, you have repeatedly written "amerture" for "amateur", suggesting that it is more than just a slip. There have even been occasions when you have changed perfectly good English written by someone else into something less good.
  • You have removed quite a number of maintenance tags from articles, particularly "citation needed" tags. Such tags serve a useful purpose, in calling attention to content that has been questioned or doubted, and that may need to be either provided with sources or else removed. Removing such tags is not helpful.

I am sorry to have to present you with what may seem a rather daunting list of problems, but I think that it is actually likely to be more helpful to let you know what the problems are than to simply let you keep on editing without knowing about them, and possibly continuing to find yourself blocked without knowing why. JamesBWatson (talk) 14:36, 14 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Reply to your email edit

The advice JamesBWatson has given you is good. All that I would add is:

  • You asked "Please can you remove your block status on my blog." But Wikipedia is not a place to write a blog, that's not what an encyclopedia is for.
  • Anything added to Wikipedia has to be verifiable from reliable published sources. You can't write about things here on the basis that you personally know them.
  • Another reason why Wikipedia needs sources is to show that a subject is notable enough to have an article. That means giving references to "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." You have to show that other people, not connected with the club, have thought it important enough to write substantial content about.

My advice is, give up the idea of writing about your club on Wikipedia. You will just be wasting your time. There are plenty of other sites that would be happy to let you write about it - try Myspace or Facebook. JohnCD (talk) 21:53, 15 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Angel Amateur Boxing Club edit

Hi, thanks for email. I deleted your recent article because it did not provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. As the comment above says, this is an encyclopaedia, not a blog. It was also written in a promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic. Examples of unsourced claims presented as fact include: It has a great boxing history... many fantastic Trainers And fighters... Great trainers... had a successful career

It's possible that the club might be notable because of the boxers it's produced, but because you give no sources, and don't link the boxers to their Wikipedia articles (if they have them), it's hard to tell. If you feel it's worth trying to write a neutral, referenced article, do so here and let me know whrn you are ready Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:28, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Reply to your email (2) edit

I have just read your emails. I will try to answer your questions.

  1. You say you would like to know why your account is blocked. You will see if you look above that you were told at 10:45 on 14 September "This is your last warning. The next time you remove a speedy deletion notice from a page you have created yourself, as you did at Angel amerture boxing club, you may be blocked from editing without further notice", so you should not have been surprised that, when you removed the same notice again at 10:52 on the same day, you were blocked. You had also already been told, 13 September, "If you recreate the article again, you will be blocked", and you did so. Other problems with your editing are explained above, but either of two things, which you had been told would lead to a block, would have been enough. Either one of them might have led to perhaps a 24 hour block, but the combination of the other problems, which have already been explained to you, led to the block being longer.
  2. You say "There is a lot of people and fans that would like to see more information about the Angel Boxing Club". However, that is not the criterion that Wikipedia uses to decide what can be accepted. The most important consideration is "notability". You should look at the general notability guideline and the guideline on organisations to see what sort of thing is needed. If, when you have read those guidelines, you can show that the Angel Amateur Boxing Club does satisfy them, then you are welcome to rewrite the article on it. However, I'm afraid that my impression is that it probably does not satisfy those guidelines, in which case writing an article about it is likely to be a waste of your time, as it will probably be deleted again. If you do decide it is notable enough, then make sure you take not of what you have been told above about reliable sources and promotion, as otherwise the article will be deleted, even if its subject is notable.

I am genuinely sorry that you have had such a bad introduction to editing Wikipedia. If your only interest is in writing about the subjects you have started on, rather than on other subjects, then it may be that you would be better off writing on some other site than Wikipedia, such as blogspot or wikia. However, if you would like to carry on editing Wikipedia, I am giving you a rather longer "Welcome" message than the one that Kürbis put at the top of this page. It has links to various pages that may help you. Don't try to read and learn all of them, as there is far too much there to take in at one go. However, do look at the pages that look most relevant to what you want to do.

I will also give you one more piece of advice. Start by making little improvements to existing articles, instead of writing whole new articles. That way, you can gradually learn how Wikipedia works, and nay mistakes you make will be small ones, so you won't lose lots of work. After a while, you will know better what sort of thing is acceptable, and then maybe you can write an article from scratch. This is just my advice, and it's up to you, but I think that way you would have a better chance.

I hope these comments are some help to you. JamesBWatson (talk) 20:07, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

I have moved your entries down to the bottom of the page - that is where new additions go, so as to keep the conversation in order.
Dannyboy, it does not seem that you are reading any of the advice that people are giving you. If you are to contribute to Wikipedia, you have got to read what people say to you and take notice of it. I will tell JamesBWatson that you have written to him here, but I can answer your questions:
  • Your block was for a week from 14 September. That means it will end on 21 September.
  • Then you will be able to submit articles again, but if you just go on putting in the same article, it will be deleted again, and you will very likely be blocked again for wasting everyone's time.
  • No, what you wrote that you wanted to put in (which I have put into User:Dannyboy gallagher/sandbox 2 to keep this talk page clear) is not suitable, for all the reasons that have already been explained to you above. Did you not read User talk:Dannyboy gallagher#Advice about editing problems, where JamesBWatson took a lot of trouble to explain that you must write from a neutral point of view and not try to promote the club: but here you are again writing "many fantastic Trainers... proudly represented the Club... " etc.
  • What goes into Wikipedia must be not opinions, but facts, and they need to be verifiable from reliable sources. You haven't given any sources for what you say.
  • What you wrote is almost all about Gallagher, but there is already an article about him at P. J. Gallagher (boxer). The fact that a notable boxer belonged to the club does not mean that the club is notable enough to have its own article: you would have to show that by finding significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources about the club.
  • Read Wikipedia:Your first article which tells you how to write acceptable articles.
And before you ask any more questions, please read all the advice on this talk page which people have taken a lot of trouble to write for you. JohnCD (talk) 23:26, 17 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Since you said that your message was for me, I will just say that I agree with everything JohnCD has said, and I have nothing else to add. JamesBWatson (talk) 07:43, 18 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
