Flags in F1 infoboxes

I've been catching up on the discussion about flagicons in F1 drivers infoboxes. I'm still undecided on the issue, but I think the team templates is one area of the project that does suffer from an overuse of flags. Both from having a flagicon on the header for the template, and for each of the drivers. I didn't want to add yet another tangent to the discussion, as this isn't so much about what flag should be shown next too a driver/team, but rather if a flag is appropriate in that instance. I'm planning on asking the question on the project talk page, if there is ever a conclusion to the current discussion, but I wanted to get your thoughts. JohnMcButts (talk) 19:09, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi John. Sorry for the delay in replying. The driver flagicons in the team templates probably are unnecessary, but I don't have strong feelings about them. By all means raise the topic for discussion at WT:F1. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 09:17, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Many thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anagoodrum (talkcontribs) 20:22, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi Anagoodrum. By convention we don't list a driver's "overall" stats (i.e. 185/39/68/35 in Rossi's case) in their infobox - the infobox has a section up the top detailing their stats in their current series, a list of previous series and championships won, plus separate sections for their stats in major series (e.g. Formula One, IRL, NASCAR, etc) in which they have participated. Reserve/Test roles or memberships of Academies/Development Programs aren't usually listed in the infobox. Do we know yet which series Rossi will be contesting in 2015? Hi DH, Latest edit to above by eveready lim (again) does not seem encyclopedic and has several issues. Was going to take it straight out but think someone else should look at it first. (The edit also removed some content). Regards, Eagleash (talk) 14:11, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

PR Review – 2000 Belgian GP

Can I garner your interest in a peer review of the 2000 Belgian Grand Prix? I would like feedback on this Formula One event article so that it can get to FA standard and is part of my plan to bring the 2000 Formula One season to becoming a good topic status, if you have time and are interested. If not can you recommend a user who would help me? Z105space (Talk to me!) 17:34, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi Z105space. Apologies for taking so long to reply. I'm afraid I'm not in a position to perform a decent peer review just right now (I've got some stuff going on in RL). But I see from Wikipedia:Peer_review#2000_Belgian_Grand_Prix that you've found a couple of suitable reviewers. Good luck with the article! Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 11:48, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Infobox: racing car

Hi DH,

You were really helpful a few months ago when I asked after improving Template:Infobox racing car to accomodate non-F1 fields, so I was hoping that I could run another idea by you. I have been working on McLaren MP4-30 of late, trying to include details of the ERS system in the infobox, and while I have made it work for now, it's really quite wordy. Do you think that it would be worth adding a separate field for the ERS in the infobox? Prisonermonkeys (talk) 21:23, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi PM. Yes, I think it's definitely worth the addition of a separate field. It might be worth reviving this discussion at WP:MOTOR to try to arrive at a general solution which supports other car types, not just Formula One. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 21:34, 14 March 2015 (UTC)
Great, thanks. I revived the discussion there. Also, I am trying to change the order of some of the results fields. The current system is races, wins, poles, fastest laps and podiums. But I think that it should read races, wins, podiums, poles and fastest laps. I have tried swapping everything about on the template page, but I cannot get it to appear the way that I want it to. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 03:14, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
(I think) I have fixed it. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 03:42, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, it all looks good to me. Thanks again. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 07:08, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

2015 F1 car results

All of the tables that I added to the 2015 car articles that didn't already have them (which I think were all but Mercedes, McLaren, Marussia, and Ferrari) were all copied from the Mercedes results table and from there I just pasted the correct information in. In all cases, I left the blank color code in "in case" these teams ended up being 1st, 2nd, or 3rd at some point. I'm not table savvy, so if it's preferable that the code not exist at all if not needed, the rest still have them. Twirlypen (talk) 08:32, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

I should go through my contribution history a little more. Twirlypen (talk) 08:34, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

I'd suggest Template:Infobox F1 constructor, given that the lead describes them as a "constructor" and the article includes {{Formula One constructors}}. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 11:19, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

Aston Martin DP214

Hi DH, Thanks for your edit on Christian Heins page. I note that the Le Mans '63 page goes into some detail re the accident but that the DP214 doesn't seem to cover it. (Unless I've completely misread it - not impossible!) There it says that the McLaren/Ireland car retired with mech failure, during Ireland's stint. Presumably this mechanical problem caused the oil leak, and the car itself was not caught up in the resulting accident. If you look at the two articles one after the other at first sight it seems anomalous and I wonder if something should be included on the DP214 page? But I don't have any reference material. Regards, Eagleash (talk) 23:22, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi Eagleash. I copied the info about the accident from Christian Heins (which sources the information from here) into 1963 24 Hours of Le Mans. The loss of oil and the accident probably should be mentioned at Aston Martin DP214 - you could probably use the same source as a reference. DH85868993 (talk) 13:56, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Done I've pared it down a bit (probably not enough). Used the same ref. Thanks. Regards. Eagleash (talk) 14:55, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Motorsport

It was more accurate the way it was. Yes ACCUS exists, but no-one in Europe or North America pays any attention to it. FIA is content to let NASCAR do its own thing, because they couldn't stop them if they tried. Yes there is a link, but it is tenuous to non-existant. --Falcadore (talk) 09:03, 2 August 2015 (UTC)

Dear DH85868993,

I have just uploaded and put in the new-created article the logo of racing team "Equipe Matra Sports". Please check if there is everything all right and correct in case of need. Secondly, I do not understand why the logo of "Matra Enterprise" suddenly disappeared from the original article "Matra". Since all F1 Constructors´Champions from Alfa Romeo to Mercedes have their logo placed in respective article, I suppose there will be no problem in placing Matra logo in their article relating to license matters. Thank you. Lucullus19 (talk) 09:03, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi Lucullus19. The licensing information for Matra Sports logo (File:Matra Sports.gif) looks OK to me (although I'm not an expert in these things) and by my understanding it should be OK to use in the Equipe Matra Sports article. I also don't understand why the logo suddenly disappeared from the Matra article, but I see you have replaced it with another file. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 13:24, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
Hi DH85868993. Thanks for answer. But today when I check the Matra Sports logo that I uploaded few days ago on Wikimedia Commons, I become worried about the threat of deleting this picture in 7 days after my upload. Can this problem be resolved ? How is it that every F1 constructor´s champion has their logo published on wikipedia without any licensing problems ? Thank you.Lucullus19 (talk) 09:02, 5 September 2015 (UTC)

Results tables; bold / italics

Hello DH; I've (always) (sic) been under the impression that it was the result (I.e. the position or 'RET' etc) that was emboldened (embolded?) but I've just noticed that Depailler's table has the race name in bold or italics. Which is correct? Eagleash (talk) 21:09, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

Both! In driver tables (where table cells include both the race abbreviation and the result), the race abbreviation is emboldened or italicized; in team, car and season summary results tables (where table cells only include the result), it's the result. DH85868993 (talk) 21:14, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
So Depaillier's table is correct with the race-names (I.e. MON, RSA, GBR etc.) bolded or italicised? And the car ones I did yesterday following your post on the proj. talk page (where I did the place or ret.) are also correct? Eagleash (talk) 21:28, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
Yes, that's right. DH85868993 (talk) 21:36, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
Thanks; I really don't recall seeing the race-names treated thus before; but then I find the tables quite difficult to read in that respect anyway. An italicised 2 for example is quite difficult to spot. Eagleash (talk) 21:54, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

Lotus 21 (categories)

Why does the parent cat for Lotus contain vehicles which should be in the 2 sub-cats 'racing cars' & F1 cars? This does not happen with cats for Ferrari vehicles, Toyota vehicles or Matra vehicles. If the F1 cars are all appearing in the parent cat, then they have probably been put there incorrectly by somebody unaware of the "cat heirachy". Wouldn't be surprised, as it is Lotus, that it was our photo-obsessed (etc) IP editor of recent weeks. Although the few I looked at showed no evidence of this! Eagleash (talk) 14:34, 4 October 2015 (UTC)

@Eagleash: I wasn't aware of the inconsistency with those similar categories. If you want to remove Category:Lotus vehicles from all the Lotus racing car articles, that's fine with me - the main reason I reverted your change to Lotus 21 was because it made that article inconsistent with all the other Lotus F1 car articles. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 07:47, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
Same applies to Mercedes & Renault where F1 cars aren't included in the parent cats...so yes the Lotus categorization does need to be updated. I will go through the list in Lotus vehicles and update as per. Also, there are a number of F1 cars that don't appear in the vehicles cat. list, incl. 72, 76, 81, 87. Eagleash (talk) 11:24, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

@Eagleash: Great work! DH85868993 (talk) 10:57, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

There was no indication in either the 20 or 22 articles of any championship entries. Therefore to avoid further confusion I have added content to both, with refs. I have also moved from cat: racing cars to cat: F1 cars...which may be debatable. Eagleash (talk) 13:50, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for adding the content. I can see arguments both ways regarding the cats. Let's see if anyone reverts. DH85868993 (talk) 09:53, 9 October 2015 (UTC)

Formula Three and British Formula 3 Championship

I expect you've noticed recent changes to articles where 'Formula Three' has been changed to 'Formula 3'. This seems to be because, although the page about the class of racing has the number spelt out, the page about the UK Championship does not. To my mind the UK champ page title is possibly incorrect (should be in words?) and the changes have led to some anomalies where 'Formula Three' and 'Formula 3' appear close together in an article. Also the use of a link (without a pipe) means the number '3' appears as 'text' which is inconsistent and goes against WP:MOSNUM. I don't know if this has been discussed anywhere...where do other Formulae etc. get discussed anyway...? Eagleash (talk) 12:23, 10 October 2015 (UTC)

'Update'. I see what's happened now, the page has recently been moved to 'Formula 3' from 'Formula Three'. Seems like something that might have been discussed but don't know if it was? Eagleash (talk)
(talk page stalker) For whatever reason, Corvus tristis moved the page without any discussion. As I said on their page, usage of either the number or word has varied hugely over the years, depending upon individual publications style guides and how the series chooses to market itself. Certainly the usage of "Formula Three" and "Formula 3" on the same page is very inconsistent, and might be worth a discussion. QueenCake (talk) 15:50, 10 October 2015 (UTC)

DH, what do we think about the re-creation of the pages for Rebaque HR100 (re-directed to team page by you Feb 2014) and Token RJ02 (also re-directed to team page Feb 2014)? If the cars weren't notable enough then, is anything any different now? Eagleash (talk) 10:46, 8 November 2015 (UTC)

It's also been suggested that the Amon car article be merged into the team article as, in the same way as the above ones, it's a one car concern. This was another article started by the IP editor round about the same time as the raft of Hill, Matra, Lola and Tyrrell articles but was not picked up at the time. The (Draft) Token Racing template has been deleted as really being of no use and the Amon one would have gone the same way if it had not been moved into mainspace. There is a Surtees template in draft also. This could be of more use, but there is only one Surtees car article at present & it is really just a list of drivers. List of Formula One World Drivers' Champions

Hi DH,

I just wanted to thank you for reverting my edit on the above article - I have learned something here, which is great! Was just wondering if you thought it would be worth putting an explanatory note on the article about this, so other people don't draw the same flawed conclusions I did?

Thanks WilliamF1two (talk) 11:05, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi William. No worries. I was also unaware of the situation until I did some investigation after seeing your edit, so we both learned something! I certainly wouldn't have any objection to an explanatory note being added (I almost added one myself). Note that there is a somewhat similar situation in 1955: At the conclusion of the British GP, there were still 4 races remaining on the calendar, so Fangio wasn't yet assured of the title. However three of the four races were cancelled following the Le Mans disaster, thereby meaning that Fangio's points total couldn't be surpassed. DH85868993 (talk) 11:17, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. Louis Stanley was also scanty...(about 10 words!). On another point, how do we think about dimensions in infoboxes (wheelbase, track etc.). I note some have them, some not... or is it a bit too much detail, a la T Rooney? Eagleash (talk) 20:57, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

Removal of Template without improvement to article

Thank you for your editing. Please do not knee-jerk remove templates such as the [clarification needed] you removed from Michael Rutter without taking the time to clarify the article. This template I left as a reminder to myself, which I thought I had adequately already covered in my talkpage message to you, but immediate removal further precludes other editors from being informed i). that there is vagueness and ii). that they might have been able to improve the prose as deemed required by the addition of the tag.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 12:35, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi Rocknrollmancer. I removed the [clarification needed] tag because I thought the line you tagged ("31st British Superbike Championship") didn't require any clarification. If you had perhaps left an {{expand section}} tag in the article's lead (where you made your edit), or in the Career section instead, I probably wouldn't have removed it. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 21:58, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, I didn't spontaneously consider any other tag. I don't have much specific to do on Wikipedia now, only a few difficult re-writes that I find reasons for delaying, so otherwise it's mostly a random approach and unplanned. I did find a quote that would be useful in the future for another article so that's a bonus, and some discrepancy in Rutter's results-reporting that needs further scrutiny, so I have to check against other sites. rgds, Rocknrollmancer (talk) 23:45, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of sports, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Scootering. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi DPL bot. In this case the link to the disambiguation page was deliberate - Scootering contains details of several sports known as "scootering", but I didn't think it was worth linking them all separately. DH, can you clarify what this edit did because even though I've taken screenshots, before and after, I cannot see what the difference is. Ta. Eagleash (talk) 12:41, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

Never mind. I've spotted it now. There was one missing pipe, which oddly, seems to have made no difference to how the table displayed. :P Eagleash (talk) 14:16, 17 January 2016 (UTC)
Hi Eagleash. The edit adds the missing bottom and right-hand side borders to the bottom cell in the "17" column (well it does on my browser anyway - perhaps it's different on different browsers). Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 20:47, 17 January 2016 (UTC)
I see; yes it could be that, or other problems I've found with columns & tables have related to screen resolution. Ta. Eagleash (talk) 23:08, 17 January 2016 (UTC)
Yes I think there must be some peculiar anomaly as here. I have only 20 columns for the table before and after your edit and it makes no difference to the way it displays to me. I think the extraneous '5' must have arisen when I thought about starting a 1971 line for 'Dinger' but he only practised a TS7 once and it seems the convention is not to include that sort of thing. Eagleash (talk) 14:05, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
No, that one was a mistake on my part: I thought you had intended to increase the rowspan for the Year column to 5 (i.e. so that it included the "Source" row) and that there were 20 columns excluding the Year column. So when I changed the rowspan back to 4, I incremented the colspan to 21, without actually counting the columns. I now see that there are 20 columns including Year, so I have changed the colspan back to 20. Thanks. DH85868993 (talk) 22:14, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Brabham BT43

Hello and thank-you for your message.

As a new Contributor I don't know if this is the correct way to reply to your message but it seemed the only way I could work out how to.

The BT43 Article was something that I always wanted to see and my effort was only meant to be a draft so that I could learn what is required to make a Wikipedia Page/Article. I have used multiple sources varying from the actual people involved to Newspapers, Magazines, Books, and finally Websites primarily The Nostalgia Forum on Autosport. However as I have yet to learn how to cite References and make Tables it has a long way to go.

The only reason it was up as an actual Page was because I found out that a (blank) Page already existed after I started the draft that was redirected to the Brabham Article. So I experimented to deleted the redirect and put the draft text onto the actual Page and reassign it as a draft. I did the first two parts but couldn't work out how to do the last so I gave up and went to bed to sleep on it only to find this morning (probably expectedly) the criticisms so I have deleted the draft text from the draft Page and copied and pasted the text from the actual Page (in case that actual Page incorporated any late edits) onto the draft Page this morning.

Hope this helps.

Hello again :

Looks like someone found something wrong with Bob Paton's photo of the BT43 when he completed it. I was wondering if you could let me know what was wrong with it as I can't see what was wrong with it?

Thanks again.

From memory, I think you had permission for the photo be used on Wikipedia - is that right? For a photo to be hosted at Commons, I think it needs permission to be used anywhere. Did you upload the photo to Commons or English Wikipedia? The permission you have might allow the photo to be hosted at Wikipedia instead (most photos used in Wikipedia are hosted at Commons, but some are hosted locally). But that's just a guess - you might be better asking the user who deleted the image from Commons (Hystrix) - here is a link to their talk page. Hope this helps. DH85868993 (talk) 07:00, 15 February 2016 (UTC)

Hello :

Many thanks for that I think you've hit the nail on the head. Pretty sure I loaded it up to Commons as it seemed to come up during the process as the thing to do. I might just try to upload it again just to Wikipedia itself and see how that goes. Otherwise might contact Bob again and see what he is OK with.

How do you think the Draft will go with the Review? I think there are a couple of loose ends still but I reckon it's more accurate when compared to that one on the Lola T332 particularly with regards to Specs in the Infobox.

Once again many thanks.

Regards

Lola T371

As far as I recall (and BB and I did a lot of work on this when Taki first started messing with things) Stommelen raced the car as T371 in S. Africa. In Spain it became GH1 and was given to Migault(?) and Stom raced 'GH2' (later re-designated to a GH1) to have his big accident. (Not the same as the GH2 chassis that never raced). Whether it should be included I really don't know. Eagleash (talk) 22:39, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

If it raced as T371, then it should be listed in the template. Thanks for letting me know. DH85868993 (talk) 22:44, 19 February 2016 (UTC)
Just looked at 'Jenks' here Stom used T371/HU1 at Saffer which became GH1/HU371/1 at Esp. Eagleash (talk) 22:49, 19 February 2016 (UTC)
Cool. Thanks. I learn something every day on Wikipedia! DH85868993 (talk) 23:01, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

Just my two cents worth but keep in mind when doing your research that even Programmes from the event can be "incorrect" as they were printed well in advance of the Event and can contain colloquialisms and even errors which is why it is sometimes good to buy Programmes with someone's "corrections" written into them (that is if they were actually there to verify those "corrections"). Yes Stommelen is entered in "HU371/1" (Note : what the printed designation is and not "T371/HU1" as would be a normal Lola designation) for the 1975 South African Grand Prix as seen at :
http://www.racingsportscars.com/covers/_Kyalami-1975-03-01e.jpg
Note too that in the referenced "Jenks" article he states that Charlton was entered in M23/3 when on oldracingcars he was in M23/2. No disrespect to "Jenks" but I'd believe oldracingcars as John McCormack bought Charlton's M23 and after he used it as a F5000 by putting a Leyland P76 based engine in it; it was much sought after by McLaren International to be converted back to it's DFV engined F1 spec as it was the "lowest" chassis number available as M23/1 was owned by Denny Hulme in New Zealand. M23/3 was the car that Jody Scheckter wrote off at the big British Grand Prix crash in 1973.

By the way "Grand Prix Ford: Ford, Cosworth and the DFV" states that the GH1 was originally titled "T371" in deference to having been derived from the T370 however as Smallman had left Lola and the Tubs were built by TC Prototypes the intent seems to have been that they would be designated as GH1 and not T371.

I notice that oldracingcars is still to update a lot of the Hill cars whether Lola or Hill.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Dora Domino (talk) 04:38, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

I'd take "Jenks" or Alan Henry over Old Racing Cars anytime as they were actually at the event and not something written years later. And Jenks in particular was notoriously pedantic about chassis Nos. We know the Hill GH1 was originally designated T371, another editor and I did hours of research on this when the notorious disruptive IP-hopper from the UK West Country started wrecking the F1 project. Eagleash (talk) 05:55, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
Well the proof in the pudding on who is correct in the M23 case would be to have a look at the ex-Charlton ex-McCormack M23 now owned by McLaren International (or even ask Ray Bell on TNF as he would know). If it's 23/2 then ORC is correct if it's 23/3 then "Jenks" is correct. Are you anywhere near Donington?

Dora Domino (talk) 07:59, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

Not close enough to Donington; nor if I'm honest, interested enough. Individual chassis Nos. don't usually/regularly form part of Wiki's remit as a general encyclopedia, not an anorak's guide. It was essential (in discussions) in the case of the T371/GH1 to sort out the muddle caused by our IP friend last August and also to answer DH's query as to whether the T371 actually raced in that designation. Eagleash (talk) 12:19, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
So what does Wikipedia take as "the source"? Entrants List and Results published by the FIA/Promoter/Race Organiser or a document like the Race Programme which as I say above can have colloquialisms and inaccuracies?

With respect to the M23 I only used that as an example of where what someone (even someone thought to be beyond reproach) wrote at the time can actually be incorrect. Even Doug Nye admits when he's written something incorrect in the past such as the Profile he wrote on the Repco Brabhams which has unfortunately been quoted over and over again as gospel.
I'm not sure what you mean about what I would regard (and I know I'm only "new" to Wikipedia) as "necessary detail" to prove or disprove something not being part of Wikipedia's remit as a general encyclopedia - if detail is required to verify something then to me that detail is required. If that's against something when contributing to Wikipedia then someone better tell me now or tell me what "guideline/s" to read before I get too carried away!
My Son is over in the UK and Europe this month and just for fun and to keep him busy I'll get him to check out Donington when he is back in the UK and either get a photo of the ID board or get him to ask someone whether it's M23/2 or M23/3.

Dora Domino (talk) 13:26, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia would take FIA results over race programmes. I'm not sure how programmes even entered into this discussion, or the M23 come to that. If you find something, as a result of your research, in the M23 page, or related articles, which is inaccurate, then please go ahead and correct it, citing your WP:RS obviously! As to detail. Individual chassis Nos. are rarely included in articles, however in the case of the T371/GH1 it was necessary to delve more deeply to determine the history (as there was some confusion at the time caused by our IP editor). It would be found in the source, but not included in the text on the page. Anyone who wanted greater detail would go to a specialist website or publication. Eagleash (talk) 14:37, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
DH, you may be able to put this better than me! Eagleash (talk) 14:37, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

No that's great I understand now you've explained it very well.
Many thanks to both of you for your help it is much appreciated.
I only hope I can contribute positively and not be a pain like the one you describe.

Hi, why was the Category:Formula One drivers removed? MbahGondrong (talk) 23:38, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

Hi MbahGondrong. I removed Category:Formula One drivers because the article was already in the lower-level category Category:Indonesian Formula One drivers. By convention of the Formula One WikiProject, F1 driver articles are only included in the lower-level "<country> Formula One drivers" category. Regards. Red Bull Racing

I wasn't actually aware that article wasn't just a one-off error. However, I'm fairly certain we had a discussion last year to use Red Bull, not Red Bull Racing, so I don't see a point in changing it back. QueenCake (talk) 17:57, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

We had a discussion in September/October last year, but by my reading it was inconclusive, i.e. some people said we should "use the common name" (i.e. "Red Bull") with others saying we should go by whatever the entry list says and the discussion eventually petered out without a firm consensus. Then in December, an IP editor changed most occurrences of "Red Bull-Renault" to "Red Bull Racing-Renault" in the 2014 and 2015 race reports, and so we had another discussion, which again resulted in no consensus. In January, I proposed changing the 2014 and 2015 race reports back, but Tvx1 objected, so I didn't. So that's why I reverted your change, to keep that article consistent with the other 2014/2015 articles, given there was no clear consensus to change them all back. (I then went on to change the few remaining instances of "Red Bull-Renault" in the 2014/2015 race reports to "Red Bull Racing-Renault", for internal consistency). Wolf Williams

A re-direct existed from Wolf-Williams...without the 'racing'. A re-direct has already been requested for WWR by Taki and declined by an editor at reqs for re-direct who is aware of the situation. I.e. asking for re-directs for non-notable topics in order to create articles from them...the same editor who posted at ANI about it. No doubt if it had been granted he would have re-created the Wolf-Williams page as he did previously which was deleted as copy-vio. So if one from WWR now exists we know where he's going next... Eagleash (talk) 22:08, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Ah... the re-direct has been altered to point to a re-named section I think. So there's not a re-dir from WWR. Phew! Eagleash (talk) 22:25, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Damn! I misinterpreted your comment at Talk:Frank Williams Racing Cars and so created Wolf-Williams Racing as a redirect to Frank Williams Racing Cars#Wolf-Williams Racing. I forgot that Taki often uses redirects to create unnecessary articles. Oh well, there's a fairly strong consensus that Wolf-Williams Racing doesn't require a separate article, so if he converts the redirect to an article, we can just revert. And if he keeps doing it, we can get the redirect protected. DH85868993 (talk) 10:48, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
I've found the WWR re-dir now! Note you've added 'hidden advice' as I have on several other pages (mainly the Fittis before I temp restored them pre-merger). Great, thanks. He's tried several ways to start a page for Wolf Williams but without success. Eagleash (talk) 11:22, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

Dennis Poore

Hi, I note that you have restored results tables on the Dennis Poore page. Since the article is primarily about the man, I wonder if it would be better if, provided Poore's own motorsport achievements were listed, the tables could simply be in a cited reference? Arrivisto (talk) 15:18, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi @Arrivisto: Each of the 700-odd articles for drivers who participated in one or more World Championship Grands Prix has a World Championship results table and each of the British Hill Climb champions has a "British Hillclimb Championship" succession box. I don't see any compelling reason to make an exception for Poore. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 20:14, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Hi, Thanks for responding. If that's how it is, so be it; but it seems a waste of computer storage to put a table on every driver's page. That's why we have Wikimedia Commons, to avoid needless repetition! Arrivisto (talk) 10:05, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Eddie Jordan

I think it was premature to update the links for Eddie Jordan without discussing if that unilateral move was correct in the first place. I don't see anything to indicate that Eddie Jordan the ex-Jordan boss is not the primary topic, and even if a move is required, Eddie Jordan (commentator) is the wrong disambiguator as Jordan has never been a commentator, and his media role in general is minor next to his claim to notability as a F1 team boss. We'll probably have to open a discussion on this. QueenCake (talk) 15:54, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

You're probably right. I'll do the work to re-update the links if the article gets moved back/to a different title. One benefit was that I did discover some existing links to Eddie Jordan which should have gone to [[Eddie Jordan (basketball) instead. DH85868993 (talk) 20:10, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Silver linings and all that! At least AWB makes it quick, moving all the season pages has taken months, and I still don't think we're half way through... QueenCake (talk) 21:43, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Perhaps Eddie Jordan (Formula One) might be one way to go. (As with Sir Frank). Eagleash (talk) 16:00, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Or maybe Eddie Jordan (motorsport) given that he was a driver himself and to include his time running his F3/F3000 teams. DH85868993 (talk) 20:10, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
That would work too. Eagleash (talk) 20:20, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Lotus 69

I looked it up in Pritchard's 1971 book, and I was wrong. Maybe we could call it a 69/49, and everything aft of the monocoque was from a 49. Will102 (talk) 12:22, 24 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi Will102. Chicane F1 and FORIX (and the results table in Pete Lovely's Wikipedia article) list the car as a "69 Special", so I've updated 1971 Formula One season to match. DH85868993 (talk) 07:13, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) FWIW the Motor Sport (magazine) archive here lists it as Lotus 69/5 (with F2 added in the grid 'table'). However it's not 'Jenks' or Alan Henry but by 'ARM' and without asking Ed Foster I don't recall who that is.

PS. Looks like 'Taki' got WDC instead of WCC in most of the early Tyrrell pages... Eagleash (talk) 16:58, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

F1 Driver page - add DOB, DOD, Age?

I have a proposal to add 3 columns to the List of Formula One drivers article: date of birth, date of death, and age. However, I didn't want to just haul off and do it without getting feedback about it. It does kind of make the page look a little "busy" with too much information, but I can see value in having the columns (especially as they are sortable columns). Anyhow, check out my sandbox if interested. I got all the birth/death info from the drivers' respective Wiki pages. 2016-05-01 UTC 20:48:00 User:BillCook (talk)

Hi Bill. I agree that it does make the table look a little "busy". I also had a look at some of the other driver lists in Category:Lists of auto racing people and none of them seem to include this information, nor do the random selection of golfer or basketball player lists I looked at. You could maybe get more opinions at WT:F1. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 12:10, 2 May 2016 (UTC)

GreenC bot

Probably better off letting GreenC bot clean up bad links added by Cyberbot, it is systematically checking every single one. The reason is it informs Cyberbot of the bad link so that it won't re-add those links elsewhere. Removing the links manually and updating the talk page doesn't inform Cyberbot, and GreenC bot can't see them since they were manually removed, so it's unable to inform Cyberbot of the problem. -- GreenC 14:02, 29 May 2016 (UTC)

ATS

Hello, Taki has done something similar for ATS to what he did with the BRP template, (see ATS D5). That turned out to be a cache/purge problem and was fixed via the help-desk. As things stand when I click on the V-T-E symbols I get taken to a blank page to create a template for ATS (wheels). It might already have been fixed (it was partially last time) but I can't seem to find any way to correct. Can you help? Eagleash (talk) 14:12, 31 May 2016 (UTC)

On an associated note, it was at Template:ATS in Formula One but I moved it to Template:ATS (wheels). However, with hindsight I'm not 100% certain I've got that right? Seems to have fixed the links though. Eagleash (talk) 15:02, 31 May 2016 (UTC)

@Eagleash: I think your move was fine. As you say, it's fixed the links and it means the template name now matches the article title (and avoids any possibility of confusion with the Italian ATS team). DH85868993 (talk) 10:07, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

I edited it like that because those first sentences are a narrative.

At that point in the narrative, no judgement had been made, as it is in a later sentence and explains it.

Beuttler at 1972 French GP

Regarding your reversal of my edit to the 1972 French Grand Prix, it shouldn't matter what those other sources say. F1 regs have long stated that a driver has to complete 90% of the race distance to be classified. Even with rounding, that means in a 38 lap race, the driver can be at most four laps down, and Mike Beuttler was five laps down. Look at the results of the 1971 Dutch Grand Prix. Henri Pescarolo was eight laps down in a 70 lap race (88.6% of race distance completed), and was listed as not classified. Beuttler only completed 86.8% of the race distance. So unless you are claiming that the regs varied from race to race, Beuttler should be listed as not classified.Will102 (talk) 16:46, 2 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi Will102. Wikipedia:Verifiability says we need to report what the sources say. However, upon further investigation, I've found other sources listing him as "Retired", so I've started a discussion at Talk:1972 French Grand Prix#Beuttler. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 01:36, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

Stefan Grand Prix

While you're here could you check the sourcing for the putative 2015 entry? I read it as Autosport reporting that some believe that they were a potential entrant, but some believe a lot of things. Doesn't mean it happened. Britmax (talk) 07:42, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

Yeah - "believed to be" is not really confirmation. A quick Google for "Stefan GP 2015" turned up a couple of other "believes", including:
  • Grand Prix 247: "Although it is believed the Serbian has withdrawn his application to put together a brand new team for 2015..."
but also a few more definite statements, e.g.:
  • F1 Pulse: "Along with NASCAR team owner Gene Haas and former F1 team boss Colin Kolles, Stefanovic had registered with the FIA", and
  • This Is F1: "Zoran Stefanovich, chief of the failed Stefan GP outfit, has already confirmed he has withdrawn his application after failing to agree a 2015 engine deal."
Hope this helps. DH85868993 (talk) 09:28, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, DH85868993. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Niki Lauda

Hi, I noticed you reverted my edit on Niki Lauda's F2 results. Lauda finished 3rd in the Thruxton race but was awarded 9 points as the two drivers who finished ahead of him were graded drivers and therefore ineligible to score championship points. That's why I changed the color of some races to match the points that were awarded to the driver. A similar system is used in the Porsche Supercup and we also show the color of the points the driver scored for that race. I think we should do the same for Formula 2. For example Lauda finished 9th at the last race of 1972 but was still awarded points because 4 graded driver finished ahead of him. Any thoughts on what to do? Jahn1234567890 (talk) 20:47, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Jahn1234567890. I think the colour of the cell needs to match the number inside the cell (i.e. so that the table matches the key), otherwise people will just keep "fixing" the table (like I did :-) Perhaps you could add a footnote to the table detailing the races where the points don't match the finishing position (i.e. as you did above). But also consider raising the topic for discussion at WP:MOTOR - it makes sense to have a consistent approach across all articles. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 21:00, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for your message. I will add a note as I had done here. I changed this to the colour of the points that were awarded as is done with the Porsche Supercup. A note will work fine as well. Jahn1234567890 (talk) 21:10, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

F1 Families

Howdy! I have an article pending review for creation. I'd appreciate your feedback on how to improve it before it hits the front of the review queue. More text I guess, but are there similar articles I can follow for writing style and content? Real tlhingan (talk) 07:23, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Real tlhingan. Sorry for taking so long to reply. A few thoughts:
  • I don't know of any similar articles you could follow. There's List of family relations in auto racing of course, but that just lists the relations, not their achievements.
  • Currently the article only lists the totals for each family. I wonder if readers might be interested to see the contributions of each member of the family towards the totals? For example, for the Schumachers, rather than just one row, you could have 3 rows: one for Michael, one for Ralf and a "family total" row (possibly shaded a different colour)
  • Do you want to include in-laws (e.g. Jean-Pierre Beltoise and François Cevert, David Brabham and Mike Thackwell and Max Papis and Emerson Fittipaldi (see List_of_family_relations_in_auto_racing#In-laws)
  • Perhaps before investing too much effort into the article, you may wish to mention it at the F1 WikiProject, to see if there is broad support for the article to exist. Otherwise you could spend a whole lot of time developing the draft, only for the article to be deleted shortly after moving to mainspace. (On the other hand, you might like to fully develop the article before advertising it, to increase its chances of success...)
Hope this helps. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 13:35, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
I was wondering about Cevert/Beltoise myself, the others had slipped my mind. Establishing whether a consensus exists is good advice, particularly as the current version has already been declined at review. Eagleash (talk) 13:47, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Antonio Giovinazzi

Hi, the i/bx needs fixing as several parameters are not displaying and there is a warning message in 'preview' that there are multiple unknown params. This is because the box is for 'racing driver' not 'F1 driver'. I started to fix it but am having grindingly slow laptop issues, was forced to give up. Sorry! Eagleash (talk) 14:13, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

Someone else seems to have fixed it. DH85868993 (talk) 22:05, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
Yep. Thanks anyway. Eagleash (talk) 05:56, 26 March 2017 (UTC)
