Welcome edit

Hi Dora Domino and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your recent contribution at Brabham BT43. I was wondering - did you compose the text in the article yourself, or did you copy it directly from another source (e.g. a website, book or magazine)? Thanks. Brabham BT43 edit

Hi Dora Domino and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your recent contribution at Brabham BT43. I was wondering - did you compose the text in the article yourself, or did you copy it directly from another source (e.g. a website, book or magazine)? Thanks. Hello and thank-you for your message.
As a new Contributor I don't know if this is the correct way to reply to your message but it seemed the only way I could work out how to.
The BT43 Article was something that I always wanted to see and my effort was only meant to be a draft so that I could learn what is required to make a Wikipedia Page/Article. I have used multiple sources varying from the actual people involved to Newspapers, Magazines, Books, and finally Websites primarily The Nostalgia Forum on Autosport. However as I have yet to learn how to cite References and make Tables it has a long way to go.
The only reason it was up as an actual Page was because I found out that a (blank) Page already existed after I started the draft that was redirected to the Brabham Article. So I experimented to deleted the redirect and put the draft text onto the actual Page and reassign it as a draft. I did the first two parts but couldn't work out how to do the last so I gave up and went to bed to sleep on it only to find this morning (probably expectedly) the criticisms so I have deleted the draft text from the draft Page and copied and pasted the text from the actual Page (in case that actual Page incorporated any late edits) onto the draft Page this morning.
Hope this helps.
Regards

Thanks for your reply (you could also have replied here - I'm watching this page, so I would have seen it). I'm very glad to hear that the text is your own work - if it was directly copied from other websites, books or magazines, that would constitute a copyright violation which wouldn't be allowed. But it isn't, so there's no problem! I can show you how to add a reference if you like, or you can find instructions at Wikipedia:Citing sources, if you'd rather have a go yourself. I'm looking forward to seeing the article develop over time. Let me know if I can help in any way. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 10:51, 1 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hello again and many thanks for your reply.
I've copied and pasted my initial reply made on your page to here above to give some continuity to our conversation.
I'll have a read of how to do the referencing but if I can't make sense of it by all means I'll yell out for help.
One question if I may though if it doesn't take up too much of your time? With respect to the subject at hand that is the BT43 I have some original photos of the BT43 taken by the mentioned Motoring Photographer David Phipps that I bought from his deceased Estate. I suspect that maybe one if not a couple of these photos may have been published in either Motoring News or even Autosport in late 1973 or 1974 however I am yet to confirm this. The one/s that I suspect may have been published have appeared on the Internet usually uncredited over the years. However there are some I have that I know have never been published and have only been uploaded by myself to selected Forums suitably credited as I made the assumption that as I bought the original photos I could do what I liked with them providing I correctly credited them. Is the latter assumption sufficient if these particular unpublished ones were uploaded to Wikipedia?
Thanking You
Regards

Image copyright issues are often tricky. Rather than me giving you a potentially incorrect answer, I suggest you ask the question at the Help Desk (just create a new section at the bottom of the page). Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 11:55, 2 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

OK thanks have just gone and done this for the three cases that I mentioned. Regards Dora Domino (talk) 15:04, 2 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello again : I've made a start on the Referencing. When you get the chance can you have a look and let me know if it is acceptable? Thanking You Dora Domino (talk) 12:44, 4 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Nice work! One little tip: if you want to use the same reference multiple times in the same article, you can give the reference a name, and after the first use, you can use the name rather than having to write the reference in full again, like this. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 11:18, 5 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello : Many thanks for your kind words and the tip. I was thinking of doing it that way but wasn't exactly sure how to do it but left it that way as the other thought that I had was they were actually meant to refer to specific Post Numbers but I couldn't work out how to simply add the specific Post Number. I assume that the Post Number would have to be added by editing the Reference (outside of the URL) manually? Anyway I'm happy to go with whatever is acceptable in the hope that it gets approved and replaces the blank page that is redirected. Once again many thanks. Regards Dora Domino (talk) 13:16, 5 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

I hadn't considered that you might have wanted to refer to individual posts; usually when people add references to forums, they just link the appropriate page (as you have done), and leave it up to the reader to identify the revelant post. One point to note is that Internet forums aren't generally considered as reliable sources. But having said that, my personal opinion is that a reference to a forum is preferable to no reference at all, and Autosport's Nostalgia Formula is quite a reliable source, often featuring contributions from respected authors such as Doug Nye. Another minor point is that punctuation should go before the <ref> tag - see WP:REFPUNC for further information. Nice work on the links you have added - the article is coming along nicely. DH85868993 (talk) 10:43, 6 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Funny you should mention Doug as I was reading a TNF Thread last night where he admitted something he wrote in a Profile Publication years ago was incorrect and it had been quoted in numerous other Publications over the years as Gospel. He was quite happy to admit it was incorrect and glad it was corrected in that particular TNF Thread. I'll fix up the References and Punctuation now as I'm just surfing while watching the Television. I noticed too while putting in the Links that there are what I would have thought some fairly obvious pages not created. Maybe if I don't come out of this too scared I'll have a go at one or more of them. Once again many thanks for the kind words. Actually before I go do you have any hints for putting in what I call the "Specs" Box (invariably on the upper right hand corner) and also the "Race History" type Tables (invariably down the bottom of the page? After that I suppose I'll have to read up on the "Categories" bit. Best Regards Dora Domino (talk) 11:51, 6 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Probably the easiest way to create the infobox ("Specs" Box) is to copy one from a similar article - I'd suggest Lola T332. Just leave any fields for which you don't have the information blank (i.e. rather than deleting them altogether - that way they're still there in case someone else can provide the information in the future). Similarly for the race results table, the easiest way is to copy an existing one and modify it, although I couldn't find any F5000 car articles (see them in Category:Formula 5000 cars) which have results tables. But you could copy one from pretty much any F1 car article of the last 5 or 6 years (although the races listed in the table will be F1 races, not F5000 races, of course). Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 12:15, 6 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello again : OK had a go. Partial success. Eventually worked out how to copy it and edited some of it but also unsure as I think some of the T332 information is actually incorrect. For example : the Chev is unstressed; most F5000 engines from the early 70s were Fuel Injected (which depending on the definition of "Normally Aspirated" may not be correct); the Suspension description I don't think is correct; and not too sure the weight is correct for a T332. Anyway then got massively stalled on deleting the T332 image and inserting a BT43 image. Time to call for help please (again!). Best Regards Dora Domino (talk) 15:04, 6 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Good News and not so good news because of my lack of experience. Bob Paton (the MRD employee who was the main builder of the BT43) gave permission for me to upload his original photos to Wikipedia. I gave it a go of uploading the as completed photo and it seemed to upload (well maybe twice because the Wikipedia Commons thing confused me) but the Licencing Questions were also a bit confusing as Bob said it was OK to upload to Wikipedia but the Questions seemed to imply public use outside of Wikipedia so I probably haven't got those right. I then tried to link the uploaded image to the infobox like the Lola T332 example but for the life of me could not get it right. Eventually gave up but am thinking it may have something to do with it being a draft page? Anyway will keep having a look at the Instructions etc but any help in the meantime will be much appreciated. Best Regards Dora Domino (talk) 08:45, 7 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Seems to work now looks like it was "just" a matter of case sensitivity! Added a Category of "F5000" but it's in the middle of the draft submission stuff. I think I'll give it a rest for a bit as if I start on the Race History Table I might go crazy. Best Regards Dora Domino (talk) 10:43, 7 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Good news about the image. Another minor point: Draft articles shouldn't really be added to mainspace categories, so I've "commented out" the category for now - once the draft is accepted, it can be uncommented. DH85868993 (talk) 10:51, 7 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Oops then I should probably undo the redirect to the draft page! Dora Domino (talk) 10:59, 7 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello again : Be interested in your comments on the page now seeing it must be getting close to being reviewed. Still a few things to tidy up though including Referencing and clarifying a few points about Sources particularly where there are multiple sources and only one is correct. Regards Dora Domino (talk) 10:40, 9 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Started this page as couldn't believe it didn't exist already. Annotated (motorsport) as there already was a page for Geoff Ferris but that Geoff Ferris was an Irish Football Manager.

Replaceable fair use File:Brabham BT43 as completed by MRD employee Bob Paton in October 1973.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Brabham BT43 as completed by MRD employee Bob Paton in October 1973.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 14:55, 24 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Brabham BT43 as completed by MRD employee Bob Paton in October 1973.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Brabham BT43 as completed by MRD employee Bob Paton in October 1973.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 14:57, 24 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

I wish the "Review" "Process" was as quick as the "Speedy Deletion" Bandwagon!
I'll try to make this as simple as I can and then hopefully someone will actually "help" instead of just stating "Rules".
1. Bob Paton took the photo in October 1973 essentially of his own work as being the person who largely constructed the BT43.
2. In the course of my Research on the BT43 for the "Brabham BT43" page (which currently exists as a "Draft" waiting - 19 days thus far - for "Review") Bob sent me a scan of his photo.
3. Bob gave approval via e-mail for the file to be uploaded to Wikipedia providing "Attribution" was made.
4. I've tried to upload it via the "Wizard" but obviously didn't get it right as this is the result - "Speedy Deletion" and to a new Dummy User like me utter confusion!
Surely someone with some experience can help?
