New Age music talk page - section out of sequence ?

Hi Cricket... I just replied to your comment on New Age music talk page about removing the Contemporary Classical alternative term. When I was doing that I realized that when I originally started the whole section that discussion is in (Considering a new approach for the Definition of New_Age_Music) - I did it like a blog - new stuff at the top. It makes that page read kind of funny. Now I've seen more talk pages and most of them have the older stuff at the top. A lot of the prior comments (lower on the page) seem to be out of date, though some still apply. I just wonder if some editors go right to the bottom of talk pages for the new stuff and this layout might be confusing. Do you think that needs to be fixed, or better to just leave it where it is? considering edits at Pianists article

Hi Cricket

I was checking out the Pianists article while researching something else and found it was just a lists of lists. I planted some templates there with suggestions to merge the lists into the existing lists of pianists by genre, and also to make a couple new list pages for genres that don't have pianist lists yet. On the talk page there I also started some suggestions for what the Pianists article could be instead of a list of lists. I'd like your feedback on those ideas if you have time to take a look. Bradley Joseph

I have done what I can, but it wasn't as thorough as it could have been. Here's the difference, but I would rather not vote on the FAC nomination, it isn't something I do much. Feel free to drop me a line if you would like me to do anything, it means I can do the same back. ;) I see you were mostly responsible for the article- stunning work. I am yet to get any featured articles under my belt, I either run out of motivation, or run out of things to say. I recently got another good article, (Desolate North, an experiment to see how good I could get something that was barely notable) I just don't have the energy for much article writing at the moment, so I spend my time doing light admin work. You'll find that smaller artists are always glad to help, especially when they're little known. They're top notch, and keep in touch with him as he could prove rather valuable. When making interview requests I've found they're ever helpful. For example, if you choose to work up some Joseph related GAs whatever hard copy material he has may prove invaluable. Think of it this way; if you email and get a good response then great, but if you don't it doesn't matter as you never knew the bloke in the first place. With books, you'll need the ISBN number, which edition the book is, publication date, etc. etc. You're real good at editing Wikipedia, so I hope you work up future FAs (it's much easier after the first successful FAC). New Featured Content

Hi. The template guidelines state "Articles (10, most recent first)". Because Raul's a bit erratic with when he promotes, some articles will be there for days - like the ones you added on the 1st - and some will be there for weeks. Because the limit is 10, if Raul promotes more than 10 at a time some don't go up at all. It's a bit of a pain, but that's the system. I wouldn't worry about it unduly, but you might want to bring it up on the template talk page or Raul's talk page so that stuff like this can be avoided in future. We could make one image with multiple frames like Image:Minnehaha four seasons.JPG (they could be three high or whatever) or a floating div with multiple thumbnail image links inside, or what I just tried (putting an extra image inside the first image caption). Minneapolis

I'll run through a couple of them now; give me a minute. My computer chokes on PDFs, and I need to check some of your PDFs. For example, I think the second or third ref needs to use cite press release. Some may use the wrong template (cite news vs. cite web vs. cite press release, for example), others may have publisher incorrectly listed as author, while still others have no publisher at all. Cricket02, thanks for the offer of help and the moral support. I went as far as I dare go to clean up the Minneapolis references. Only one template is citation (hope I don't regret that later), the rest are cite something. Some fields are missing in some of WP:CITET ( noted but unfixed) so I used cite journal for news a couple of times because it has the volume and issue fields, and then moved the publisher to the journal field. Looks okay except the italics. If you have time to scan through the refs for mistakes that would be wonderful. -Susanlesch 23:00, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

I responded on the FAC. Actually, cite templates aren't required, and a lot of us hate them; I also manually format my refs as the editor of Mayer did. In the case of your FAC, cite templates were used, but weren't used correctly, so it was a different situation. What matters on Mayer is that all of the info should be provided in a consistent format, whichever style is used. Hope this helps—and please keep reviewing, we need more reviewers ! Hi Cricket - it's been a few months, I hope all is well.

Because its related to New Age music, I think you have at least some expertise on this. For example, some of the artists played on Space music radio include New Age artists such as George Winston, Carlos Nakai, Paul Horn, Paul Winter, Vollenweider, Kitaro, Vangelis, etc...

The main issue is simply that one editor insists all Space music is a type of ambient music and wants to make that the center of the article. Yet even the person who started the first Spacemusic radio show has written in a book that spacemusic is a kind of New Age music. (You probably recall the disruptive editor from last time - he still WP:OWNs all Ambient music-related articles, including the part of New Age music that mentions Space music and Ambient music. I'm not naming him here, because this is about the music articles, not about him, I'm just mentioning this for context).

Overall, reliable sources don't agree about the definition, or even if space music is a genre. So the article should report what the sources state and we should not draw our own conclusions.

I would appreciate it if you would look at the two versions of the article and let me know what you think:

• updated version I added today
• previous version before the updates

(The history section in both versions is the same - I added that previously, before today's substantial update)

Hi, Cricket02. I guess it would make sense to ask the editor. Maybe when I removed the blank part of the images it was an unusual case. Band of Liberty page/Charlie Adams

I am the original creator of the USAF Band of Liberty wiki page, and was a member and historian for the organization during the past 4 1/2 years.

Can you tell me when Charlie Adams was a guest artist with the USAF Band of Liberty? If so, it was not within recent memory.

Perhaps he actually performed with the United States Air Force Band in Washington CD; that's what Adams's own website infers (USAF Band). If you can provide a performance date, venue and the name of the specific Band of Liberty ensemble, I will repost his name.

Bradley Joseph

Cricket, I'd like to close out the fair use review on the article...everything seems fine now, with one exception - per Wikipedia:Music samples, the length of most of the music clips needs to be reduced to either 30 secs or 10% of song length, whichever is shorter, and the sampling rate needs to be 64kbps. I'll take care of this today, mark all the media as "reviewed", and close out the FUR on the article. I appreciate your patience with this process, honestly. If I haven't told you already, Bradley Joseph is a fantastic example of the best Wikipedia has to offer - I'm in awe of your ability to bring an article to featured status. Cricket, I went ahead and did the reduction on the music samples in the article, though I didn't do anything with the Joseph samples used elsewhere. Basically what I did was mix left/right into a mono track, reduced the length to 10% or 30 seconds (whichever was less), added a brief fade-in/fade-out at the beginning and end, and then saved as an OGG with 64 kbps sampling rate. (I saw your note about sampling rate at my talk page - what audio mixing software do you use?). I made some minor tweaks to the image rationales and marked all 6 clips as having been reviewed, which hopefully should forestall any further challenges. If you're not happy with the section of the clips that I excerpted, please let me know. The review at WP:FUR has been archived. Thanks. It's sad, a wikimedian requested the deletion of all of them, just because he thinks they're not captured by someone in the audience, and that discovery was from the size, angles, and lack of EXIFs. That's funny, becasue that night no one was photographing on the scene, just like every other invaluable live performance! I briefly replied like this: "Tell me, what consumer's video source has a 800x600 resolution or more? A Blue-ray? Yanni is not available on BD! The best consumer's quality chance for this specific video, is its widescreen 16:9 DVD, which is originally 720x480, that will be rendered 853x480 on PC 1:1 screen. Of course they're NOT taken by an SLR Canon. They're from an official ProDATA video taken by on-the-scene official Sony XDCAMs, something you might call a "master", which I OWN." The number of colors used and the size of images shows anyone they're not consumer's stills. Update and very large apologies

It's done now. I'm really sorry about all this - just when I'd done all the prepping work, the parser broke, was fixed, but still wouldn't work only for this article - then I went away for a weekend to chop down some trees, and got back to find the parser fixed. Alleluia! Anyway, my sincere apologies for wasting so much of your time and for wrecking the article for a bit.

BTW, my congrats on a little landmark. I think this is the first article where I've removed fair use for Veropedia and then put all the fair use back in - usually I cut it all for good or only put some back as fair use overuse, but my word have you done this professionally and competently! More about the Bösendorfer article

I've added another recording, a 5-disc set on Eurodisc by Gerhard Oppitz encompassing all the Brahms solo piano music. I think I got the template right by copying what you'd done with the Pratt disc. A couple of other matters: first, I'm beginning to think that a new section on notable recordings may be in order. Would you like me to give it a whirl? I may need some help with the pop albums, about which I have no details. Second, I'm not so sure about the citation of Havergal Brian as a Bösendorfer player; I think, if I understood right, you added it based on a link to the Wikipedia entry for Brian, but that article indicates only that Peter Hill recorded Brian's complete music on a Bösendorfer, not that the composer played the Bösendorfer himself. Hymns and Spiritual Songs - a note

Although the "full" title is Hymns and Spiritual Songs for the Fasts and Festivals of the Church of England, 18th century titles/title pages do not use the "colon" to separate the title clauses. Thus, the publishing title is Hymns and Spiritual Songs, which is taken up as the title in Marcus Walsh's and Karina Williams's authoritative edition of the work in The Poetical Works of Christopher Smart vol II. This title is also used by critics when refering to the work, such as Neil Curry's chapter 5 titled Hymns and Spiritual Songs. Now, there has to be a disambig page, because Isaac Watt wrote a Hymns and Spiritual Songs, which should be disambiguated as a "collection" (it was a collection of loose hymns and spiritual songs written by him. Also, the title is very generic, so it Christopher Smart's may have to be disambiguated to say "1765" or "Smart". It will be a complicated issue in the future, because there was very little in Wikipedia to address Anglican and Dissenter religious works (plenty of works, little mention). Now, there are a few possibilities with this - we can follow your suggestion for the "full" title and add a disambiguation note about "Hymns and Spiritual Songs", or we can leave it as the shortened title. Hello, I was hovering around the Thriller FAC and was wondering if you wouldn't mind skimming over a few articles? I'm currently working on Janet Jackson, Control (Janet Jackson album), Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 and janet.. Same thing's happened to me before; there are some odd people about! Nice to hear from you- I'm on and off Wikipedia myself (college, technical problems, even burnout) but should hopefully be back for the long haul now. I guessed the Allmusic issue would be pretty much resolved once the bot finished its run, but I've now realised that there are plenty of other pages that needed fixing, and that people are still using "All Music Guide", so I guess it is an on-going task. Hi. I'm not a very experienced editor, but I see you awarded a Barnstar to a user named User:Emerson7 .

This user has recently been making some questionable edits to the "Entertaining Mr Sloane", "Private Lives", and "Same Time Next Year" articles, and has also been warned several times in the past weeks about the 3RR rule.

Sorry, but Wikipedia’s policy on non-free content does not permit a non-free image like File:Karenbriggs.jpg to be used to show what a living person looks like. The policy is intentionally more restrictive than US fair use law. For a living person a free portrait could be taken, and the policy requires that to be used instead.
