Pratt/Bosendorfer edit

Hi Drhoehl. I responded on Bosendorfer's talk page, but there is some kind of error and that page won't show up now, and which may clear up by the time you read this, but just in case, here is the diff of my response. I originally added that paragraph of a few particular users by searching the articles that actually linked to the Bosendorfer article, and Pratt's did not. But you have an album notes reference which is an absolutely perfect reference (see Template:Cite album-notes), and you're right, better than most. I have reverted back to your addition and when you have time, if you could fill out that template and add as a reference to the article that would be wonderful. And I would definately mention and link the Bosendorder in Pratt's article as well. If you need any assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Thank you so much for clearing that up and your contributions are appreciated. ♫ Cricket02 (talk) 04:12, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your reply. I've listened to some samples of this recording at Amazon and I must say I am impressed. I would like to help improve his article, although my time is quite limited these days as well. Research is the most time-consuming so if you have some information to add, I have the wiki editing knowledge, and maybe between the two of us we can get it up to some higher quality some day soon. I will add it to my watchlist. ♫ Cricket02 (talk) 05:10, 11 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Non-opera classical singer cats edit

Thanks for your response. I'm not sure I can point you to any substantial discussions about non-operatic cats. Most of it has been two-way stuff on talk pages just like this. I would guess there are about a dozen or two articles on classical singers who never sang opera, either people who were too avant garde for anything but art song, or Edwardian English singers who disdained the stage as morally hazardous (these people are by and large in the top vocal categories like Category:sopranos). Almost every lieder singer also did opera, so ideally lieder categories should be put on them.

At some point you may come across WP:MUSCAT. This classification system was developed by the Biography (musicians) Project number crunchers to handle the large numbers of similar articles found in popular music. I'm opposed to its use for classical singers. They recommend what they call '3rd order' (i.e. triple attribute) categories, e.g. Albanian lieder bass-baritones, which for us can result in almost as many categories as there are articles. I prefer the '2nd order' cats we are using for opera singers (e.g. 'Operatic sopranos' and 'German opera singers'.

Hope this helps! Best.--Kleinzach (talk) 23:34, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

In the US, at least, the photo is public domain. I have no doubt that it can be used on Wikipedia. Still, many U.K. webmasters object to copying on Wikipedia without asking, and even though they have no legal right to prevent us, some wikipedians prefer to ask for permission. I'll leave it up to you. If you decide to do an article on Evans, please let me know, and I'll take a look. If you decide NOT to do and article, please let me know, and I'll de-redlink the name. You wrote that the book about Lytton suggests that Evans had been in A Waltz Dream in 1908, well before Fallen Fairies. I can't prove that this is wrong, but it is absolutely certain that she was in A Waltz Dream in 1911. There are a million photos with her and Lily Elsie from the 1911 production, and Play Pictorial lists her in the 1911 cast but not the 1908 cast. I think the book about Lytton just wrongly *assumed* that she had been in the original production.
Then you wrote, "Second, what I've seen indicates that the understudy was not Evans but someone whose name eludes me at the moment, and it does strike me as implausible that Evans would have joined the production as an understudy less than a week before she took over the role." I have seen at least two sources that say she was the understudy: [1]; and [2]. But I think you are right, because a letter from Gilbert refers to a Miss Venning. I'll make the change. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:05, 7 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Can you fill out the "recordings" section a bit more? It would be good to say, for each recording, what the accompaniment was (piano? orchestra?) and who was the conductor. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:24, 7 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

You wrote, "do you think it would enhance the article if I were to take a photo of one of the test pressings?" Sure! When you upload the photo, you need to license it under GFDL or release it to the public domain. Noted, re: the record label names. I will trust you on those, as you are far more knowledgeable about it than me. I suggest that you add info to the appropriate Edison articles to mention the English company and add a clarification, if necessary, to the Pathe article. Well hello Drhoehl! So nice to hear from you. I think I put her on that list for lack of a better place. Like you said, she is classically trained, but now that you mention it, I don't think there is history of a significant career in classical music, no. Her MySpace page says Long after leaving the pressures of classical piano competition, but according to her bio on her website she left competition at age 16. Thanks for catching that, and please feel free to move her to a more appropriate list. Blessings. ♫ Cricket02 (talk) 04:30, 19 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi there--I had noted you added a wikilink to that pianist on the Akin Euba article, which is on my watchlist (I am a friend of his), and followed you to the article about the pianist, about whom I hadn't heard. I also added links to Schmalfuss in the articles about his teachers (something I always do for composers as well, to show who was whose student or teacher). LOOK edit

Hi. I like your copy edits (note that they have presented Trial 4 times - perhaps that is worth mentioning. Trial is a short one-act opera, so it is usually performed together with another piece). I think we should keep the list of productions. They have hyperlinks to our articles, so people interested in light opera will be able to quickly link to useful information. The article is short, so there's no space issue. Why make people click to the company's website to find it? All the best, -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:43, 1 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

BTW, the company has done the standard 11 G&S operas. They never did Utopia, Limited or The Grand Duke, and of course they never did Thespis (opera). They have done Trial 4 times; Pinafore 4 times; Pirates 5 times!; Gondoliers 3 times; Mikado 4 times; -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:45, 1 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Amato Opera edit

I'm sad that you put up the CopyVio tag. Can't you rescue the article? The copyvio tag is just the most horrible thing in the world. No one is going to sue Wikipedia for repeating too much text from a website of a defunct and tiny opera company - I am sure they love the Wiki article; and IMO the best thing to do is to do a couple quick rewrites to avoid direct copying and then ask other editors to do more work. Plus, I'm not even sure what you found that was copied from the company's website. In fact, the company may have copied Wikipedia. - Ssilvers (talk) 23:56, 1 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

If a copyright problem is not so big as to be a legal issue, you can use the talk page instead to describe the problem and ask for help. These opera companies do not mind if Wikipedia uses some language from their websites, as long as there is a link to their websites - the Wikipedia articles bring traffic to their websites. If you put the copyvio tag on, the article might be deleted altogether, and the Amato article was a fairly mature article that lots of people had worked on for years. Can you give me a link to the page at Amato's website where you see a copyright vio? I just looked and can't find it! -- Ssilvers (talk) 00:11, 2 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

I fixed the article. Which other articles have copyvio tags on them? -- Ssilvers (talk) 01:57, 2 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

(Taking you at your word about replying on my own page, not yours!) Thanks for the kind words and the new year's wishes, which I reciprocate 100%. A couple of notes about those voice articles. First, I'm checking, and if need be adjusting, only the contributions by Nrswanson and his known clones. If new alter egos crop up, we'll need to check those against the articles as well. Second, these articles don't strike me as Wikipedia at its best; they read like somebody's "Vocal Physiology 101" textbook from 1952. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they in fact do crib somebody's Vocal Physiology 101 textbook from 1952--somehow I can't imagine anybody in the modern-day world deliberately using the term "vocal pedigogists"--but I don't have the printed references to check, so I'm making the perhaps heroic assumption that others have been more scrupulous than Nrweighbabe in paraphrasing their sources. Nonetheless, I suspect that someone with access to those resources really should give the articles a hard look.
OK, enough of letting Nr. in his many guises spoil this pristine new year's day. Again, all the best for the coming year! Drhoehl (talk) 20:05, 1 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

File copyright problem with File:Left view.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Left view.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

Hello. I was wondering if you could perhaps come up with any more sources for this article? Ideally, sources which include significant third-party coverage would be preferred. As it stands now, the only source in the article doesn't do a whole lot for establishing the notability of the label. Also, without more references, the article is pushing original research if they are not backed up by the one source in the article. I was thinking of putting a PROD tag on it, but I would like to give you the chance to improve the referencing, otherwise I could tag it with the appropriate article issues tags.   ArcAngel   (talk) ) 17:51, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
