Redux

Hi, Courcelles. A short while back, you page protected the Katie Couric article during an edit war here. One of the same editors is back to edit warring over the very same issue, and now he's making noises indicating he's through discussing the issue, choosing instead to go against consensus in favor of what he perceives as "reason". Could you please protect the page again, and perhaps suggest that editors resolve the content disputes instead of edit war? I've put in a request at WP:RFPP in case I need to go through that channel. Regards, Xenophrenic (talk) 12:09, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

Looks like HelloAnnoying got there first. Courcelles 16:42, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

AfD

Can you move List of places on Family Guy to User:Ctjf83/List of places on Family Guy and List of fictional locations in Family Guy to User:Ctjf83/List of fictional locations in Family Guy...I was unaware of the AfDs and wanna see if I can do anything with the pages. Thanks, CTJF83 chat 18:15, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

The first one is just a redirect, so I won't waste time userifying a redirect. The second one is the actual content, and it has been userified as requested. Courcelles 18:17, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

Re: Ciara discography

Hi Courcelles,

You might recongise me as a contributor to the above discography where I have made comments about the article's FL nomination. Though it is not my place to question you I am going to intervene and ask if you're not being a bit too harsh? The use of words such as 'moderate' etc. is not against wikipedia policies, they are present in lots of FL discographies and FA articles and from understanding the community judges new FL candidates against existing ones. I.e. the existing ones become a set standard for new ones. I don't want this to sound like a critism but more like a discussion. I worry that if you're suggesting that such words like "moderate" cannot be used without a source we'll end up with discographies like this: "The album's first single 'DEF' reached number two but its second single, 'GHI' reached number three and then the last single 'ABC' reached number ten". I've left a bit more of a detailed response on the nomination page. It would be appreciated if you could take a look. =) -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 20:50, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

I'll take another look when I get a chance, though I'm a little concerned about this attitude that past lists are the standard to judge new lists against, which... not to put too fine a point on it, is basically the FLC version of WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS. If the only way we can justify something is to say it has been fine before, then we've got problems. Courcelles 21:28, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

Regarding the HJ Mitchell (test) account, it is possible that you had set the creation log to HJ Mitchell (test) at the left side; you should've done it the opposite way, here. HeyMid (contributions) 09:55, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

Hello

Hello, how are you today? I see there has been a dispute with the reliability of Video static. Now, im not very familiar with how we determine if a source is reliable or not. I chose to include it and thought it was reliable because its written by "Steven J Gottlieb" who is the former Senior Editor of music video trade magazine CVC Report (published from 1983 through 2004). Considering he is an author in his field i thought it would be appropriate to include the website. Please share your thoughts on this here as im watching your page. Talk to you soon :) - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 20:37, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

List of carsharing operators

I am pretty knowledgable on this subject having studied and councelled governmnent and carshare projects and programs internationally for quite a long time. See our http://worldcarshare.com and http://worldstreets.wordpress.com/category/carshare/ by way of example. I have also shaped from the bwginning the carshare entry here, including in other languages, both myself and with members of our informal grouping whom you can see in the above.

Now I am not sure that this listing is bogus or spam, but if you let me have a look I can give you some counsel on it. Regards, ericbritton 06:53, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

I've e-mailed you a copy of the deleted article. As it stood, the old article was a linkfarm, and didn't serve any encyclopaedic purpose, though an encyclopaedic list may be written on the subject at any time. Courcelles 07:01, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

User:Spittlespat/greenenvy

Would you delete User:Spittlespat/greenenvy (which should have been included in the nomination) per Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Spittlespat/secret page? Thanks, Cunard (talk) 06:16, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Done. While not explicitly included, it is a clear G8 following the other deletions. Courcelles 06:18, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Error in deletion?

Why did you delete Nazism in Arab Palestine as it seems a "team" work by the first bunch of 10 users with one pov managed to coordinate a "delete" attack? How is it possible that in about 12 hrs so many with the same opinion got so soon in one tone? Does it look to you innocent or genuineSalamaat (talk) 18:25, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

I deleted the article because after seven days of discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nazism in Arab Palestine there failed to be a single keep vote that made sense aligned with Wikipedia policies. AFD's are widely advertised, being listed in daily log pages, and making a good deal of noise on watchlists, so unless you have evidence anything improper happened here, I have to view each contributor as acting in good faith, just some obviously less familiar with WP norms than others. Courcelles 18:29, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

What "delete" vote made sense? I actually think that user "Historianism" made the most sense to keep it. I was about to comment to post material contesting one item there but not to delete it, and oops I saw it's gone. Is teaming up to attack an article OK in wiki rules? Did you see the first 12 logs? I hope you will reconsider it. I tend, want to believe that wikipedia is not biased.Salamaat (talk) 18:38, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Actually, "Historianism"'s comments didn't make much sense at all, and at one point he posted a link to a book that was obviously fringe and not a reliable source. Stonemason89 (talk) 20:26, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Query

Standard practice is that even before being allowed to report a user to WP:AE regarding violation involving WP:ARBSCI remedies, per Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration/Scientology#Discretionary_topic_ban, said user must be given notice regarding the existence of that closed ArbCom case, and the applicable remedies therein. Can you please give such a notice, to the user talk page, of Lexein (talk · contribs)? Thank you for your time, -- Cirt (talk) 20:03, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Investigating. Courcelles 20:03, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
Thank you! ;) -- Cirt (talk) 20:04, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
Thoughts? All that is requested is a notice, not necessarily a warning, about the existence of WP:ARBSCI, placed at User talk:Lexein. The nature of notice/warning is up to you. -- Cirt (talk) 20:40, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
I've actually got one half-typed in another tab... but am finding a good wording difficult. Will keep working...Courcelles 20:44, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
And done. This is one of those all-too-common cases where deciding what needing doing was far easier than figuring out how to do it! I'm concerned from an NOR standpoint, but I'm not quite ready to talk about broad topic-bans, either. The fine line between biting and effecting compliance is not an easy one to walk. Thank you very much for informing the user. -- Cirt (talk) 20:47, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the quick response. I'm surprised that the article was prodded just because it wasn't on IMDB. I wonder why the user didn't check the sources to see that all three are significant coverage and that it even won an award. Joe Chill (talk) 21:37, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Honestly, who knows. That something that is by definition unreliable doesn't mention something as a reason to delete truly boggles the mind. IMDB is unreliable for a reason, folks... that's all I can really say. Courcelles 21:40, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Pet project

Hey Courcelles. Just found Gordon Bennett Cup in ballooning and since it's still going (with a fascinating interactive map here) I decided to push it forward a bit with FLC in mind. I regard you as one of the finest reviewers in all of FLC-dom, would you be kind enough to give me an independent view of what it looks like so far? I know I could do WP:PR and all that but I thought I'd go straight to the horse's mouth (if you can forgive my analogy..!) The Rambling Man (talk) 21:59, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Sure, I'll give it a good read through tonight. Courcelles 21:30, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

Posting of Tuvalu

I don't think this had a consensus to go up. Is it really necessary to drag out the whole "its got a population of less than 5 million and its insignificant" argument for every small country that gets put on WP:ITNC? Tuvalu is particularly ridiculous given it has the population of a large village. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 17:48, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

I've raised the matter generally on WT:ITN. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 18:57, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
Why do we have to have this conversation every time an island nation in the Pacific has an election? Tuvalu is an English-speaking member of the Commonwealth, and we are hardly overwhelmed with elections that have updated articles... Courcelles 20:44, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
Because lots of people are unhappy about posting elections for such small countries. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 20:50, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
