Image tagging for Image:Carmela soprano.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Carmela soprano.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 19:06, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

You state, "The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator." That is incorrect. It was provided. So go bot yourself. Carmela Soprano 19:18, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Replying to the bot on this page will have no effect! When the bot added the tag you had not added the source and creator of the image [1] - the tag was correct at the time. --Golden Wattle talk 22:23, 23 November 2006 (UTC) (unrelated to OrphanBot)Reply
Replying to the bot on this page will have no effect! Yes, I know that; I was just giving the bot some atteggiamento. The "promotional" tag on the image includes the sourcing info. As a matter of copyright law, that's all that's necessary. Carmela Soprano 22:49, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Recipes edit

Recipes are not appropriate content for Wikipedia. This is an encyclopedia, and how-to type of articles don't really fit in with Wikipedia's policy of not making recommendations or expressing opinions. A little searching turned up wiki-recipe.org - maybe that site could use your recipe. Rhobite 02:53, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Carmela - I am an avid user of Wiki-Recipe.org and we would welcome your recipe's and interest in our community. --Citracyde 18:02, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
You made the foregoing statement without citing any policy page or prividing a direct link. Please point to the Wikipedia page where there is an official written policy stating, specifically, that recipes are not appropriate Wikipedia content. Until that time, I have returned the material you blanked from the baked ziti article. Carmela Soprano 04:55, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Edited to add -- please note there are hundreds, if not thousands, of recipes already included in Wikipedia, which can be found at the List of recipes entry. So, clearly, recipes are an important and established part of Wikipedia. Carmela Soprano 05:08, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User conduct

Help me request edit

  • I am having problems with user:Rhobite, who has violated a number of Wikipedia policies in his interaction with me. He/she blanked a portion of Baked ziti with no explanation. He later stated the material should be removed because "recipes are not appropriate wikipedia [sic] content" without providing any reference links as to why this material should be removed, thereby violating the "please do not bite the newcomers" policy by failing to link the policy rationale. This user then made a number of incorrect statements about Wikipedia content and violated the Wikipedia:Resolving disputes policy in the process. Rhobite then violated the Wikipedia's three-revert rule and reverted the article three times. The issue is no longer whether or not a recipe belongs in "baked ziti." The issue is what I see has user Rhobite's abusive and dismissive behavior toward me and repeated violation of Wikipedia rules. I would appreciate some assistance with this problem; specifically, I am not sure if Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User conduct is the place I should first address this problem. Thank you. Carmela Soprano 06:46, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hey! I just want to clear up a few things:-
  • To violate the three revert rule, you need to perform four reverts in 24 hours, not just three. See WP:3RR.
  • Wikipedia:Please do not bite the newcomers isn't a policy, but rather a guideline. Although it may not seem to be much of a difference, there is actually one. Just a "for your information".
  • If the user hasn't responded to your requests for clarification on their actions, I suggest mediation, or requests for comment. WP:DR states when each should be used. Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 06:51, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Carmela, I know it can sometimes seem like someone is picking on you, especially when you are in good faith trying to add to an article, but from a third-party perspective it really doesn't seem to me that Rhobite has been doing so. It is often difficult to communicate intended tone in print because it lacks all of the body-language and tone-of-voice cues we come to expect in normal conversation. Reading Rhobite's comments makes me believe he was sincerely trying to help. He has pointed out the relative policy 1 and answered your questions in a civil tone. I don't believe he is picking on you. He is simply following Wikipedia policy. He didn't "bite" the newcomer -- he was civil. Please take a moment and re-read his comments, but this time assume good faith. Read what he wrote with the assumption, not that he is picking on you, but that he is in good faith trying to point you in the right direction. If you do so, I believe you'll realize that there was very little he could have done differently. SWAdair 07:04, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Carmela edit

First of all, the baked ziti sounds delicious! I intend to try it some time. You're right, the Community Portal has a lot of information, and much of it is a bit buried. If I can help you out in any way, let me know. NinaEliza 10:11, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome! Again, please let me know if I can be of any assitance in the future. Good Night (for me, at least)!NinaEliza 10:26, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Baked ziti recipe on user page edit

I have removed the recipe from your user page, since it appears to have been copied, word-for-word, from here. And the page there says "©2006 About, Inc., A part of The New York Times Company. All rights reserved." --Calton | Talk 14:21, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • The recipe most certainly is not copied word-for-word. I have never even seen that page. That page could've been copied from my published, best-selling Italian cookbook. The above notwithstanding, recipes are not copyrightable. Please stop vandalizing my userpage. Carmela Soprano 19:34, 23 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
    • It was almost word for word, and a written recipe is certainly copyrightable. We have to be careful about copyright, I'm afraid. — Matt Crypto 20:19, 23 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
      • You stated, "a written recipe is certainly copyrightable." That is patently incorrect. Read some copyright law before you make sweeping -- and blatantly false -- statements like this. Lists of ingredients like those found in recipes, formulas, or prescriptions are not subject to copyright protection. As well, instructions are not copyrightable because there is no literary expression. Copyrights do not protect mere words, sentences, or paragraphs; they protect literary expression. Ingredients, lists, and instructions are not literary expression and not copyrightable. This has long been established in copyright law. 71.175.28.241 22:48, 23 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, to pick, say, the US, their copyright office says, "A mere listing of ingredients is not protected under copyright law. However, where a recipe or formula is accompanied by substantial literary expression in the form of an explanation or directions, or when there is a collection of recipes as in a cookbook, there may be a basis for copyright protection." We could have a big debate about copyright law here, but this is a user page, not an article. There is no particular reason for you to have recipes on your user page in order to help Wikipedia write an encyclopedia, so please leave stuff out if there's any question of copyright or plagiarism issues. — Matt Crypto 07:15, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • This is not my page, so your assumption there is also incorrect. You seem to base your actions on a lot of personal and incorrect assumptions. See the comment on your user page by a copyright attorney with legal citations about how recipes are not protected by copyright. There is no "substantial literary expression" in this recipe nor is this a cookbook. See the explanation by the copyright attorney on your page as to why this is not the case. If you continue to remove material from this page, you will be reported for vandalism -- it is not your place to decide what a user may place on his or her user page. As well, you could be subject to criminal prosecution in your jurisdiction for proffering false or misleading legal advice, particularly if you are not an attorney. You clearly do not understand copyright law, so stop advising on the issue. 71.175.28.241 16:14, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Carmela edit

I was wondering if you might enjoy WikiProject Food and drink. Take a look around the project and see if it's right for you, or if you help with anything there. There's also a WikiProject Cheese. Feel free to let me know how you are doing. NinaEliza 17:46, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Policy edit

Wikipedia policy states "No recipies", I have removed it from your userpage, if you re-add it, I will have you blocked for distruption.

If you dont like Wikipedia Policy, then leave.

1B6 11:49, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've readded it - that section of WP:NOT does not apply to userpages. Please don't revert it out again - if Carmela decides she agrees with you, then she will remove it. Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 00:05, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia policy violations by administrator Matt Crypto edit

{{editprotected}} Administrator Matt Crypto incorrectly presumed that recipes are copyright protected and incorrectly presumed, without any evidence, that a recipe I placed on my user page was a copyright violation simply because he found a somewhat similar recipe on another webpage. He then capriciously blocked/protected my user page in violation of Wikipedia policy. This is a clear violation of Wikipedia blocking policy, which states "Administrators must not block users with whom they are engaged in a content dispute; instead, they should report the problem to other administrators." As well, this blatantly violated the protection policy, which states "During edit wars, admins should not protect pages when they are involved as a party to the dispute. Carmela Soprano 02:13, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

You have asserted that you are the author of the cookbook/recipe in question. If you can verify that you are indeed the author and you agree to release this information under the GFDL then the matter may be resolved. Please see WP:OTRS. --After Midnight 0001 15:11, 26 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
