Edwin Hawkins at Deaths in 2018

You're good at sniffing out false deaths. Please take an urgent look at the Deaths entry and the so-called source ("Joy105") which is reporting it - the ONLY source which is reporting it. They are quoting the family Twitter feed, but only from January 11th when asking for prayers during his fight against illness. They appear to have no other basis than assumption for reporting his actual passing. Other Google searches in the same vein positively undermine this report. hi, i went onto the article to add references in, and saw you continued editing after me with an edit history of "Previous edit obliterated the cleanup." what do you mean by that? i believe i added constructive edits to the page as there were very few references and don't understand the edit history attitude. please explain. thanks. no it doesn't? i didn't change any of the actual content in the page, which is what this editor is doing to the edit history. i removed the overarching "Biography" header due to redundancy (this is wikipedia, after all), made each of the subheaders actual headers, and added references. i left all the content on the page untouched as i saw that this editor was adjusting it. what was the fault, then? Category:Basketball coaches from State Foo

Hi - I noticed that you added a number of schools and/or professional team coach categories to this (example, adding "Basketball coaches from Tennessee" to "Vanderbilt Commodores men’s basketball coaches"). People who coached at schools or pro teams in these states are not valid subcategories of these categories. You have a mix of long-time coaches and people who move through on their way to another job in another state, so you just can’t assume they will be from that state. For example, Vanderbilt’s current head coach is Bryce Drew, who is from Indiana. Just wwanted to let you know why I removed these. Thanks. Rikster2 (talk) 17:58, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

Your recent edit at Deaths in April 2018 changed Hungarian Air Force to Hungarian 'air force'. However, Hungarian Air Force has its own article and perhaps that styling should be reflected in the Deaths notice. Certainly from my point of view, the Royal Air Force is usually rendered thus and looks awkward without the capitals... Just a thought, and not anything to lose sleep over. Regards,

Not quite the same is it. Bull-Hansen's listing at DIMarch does not decapitalise (I know that's not a word, but you get my gist) 'Norwegian Army'. My posting here was specifically intended not to "involve the world". It was merely to point out the perceived anomaly over the usage, or otherwise, of capital lettering for the Hungarian Air Force. Anyhow, it is sleep time here in my part of the cosmos, and I may wake up tomorrow thinking why I am spending time on this issue. Night night.

Hi CAWylie, regarding this recent edit I just wanted to point out that |blp=yes should only be reserved for subjects that are living. As the subject of the article in question has passed away keeping |blp=yes for this article is not accurate. The article will still be included in WP:WikiProject Biographies just not any longer in WP:WikiProject Biographies of living persons. Hi CAWylie. Wikipedia does generally allow non-free images of deceased individuals to be used for primary identification purposes, but generally this is only when it's reasonable to expect that a freely licensed equivalent can neither be found nor created to serve the same encyclopedic purpose. When someone just dies, there's often a rush to add a non-free image to their Wikipedia article because in many cases people just automatically assume the non-free image is going to be considered OK. However, such images sometimes do end up being deleted either because someone is able to find a free equivalent or because a consensus is established not much of an effort was made to find such a free equivalent.

So, I'm just curious as to what steps you might have taken to find such an free image yourself. Just a quick Google image search shows that Collins had a pretty long career and there are lots of images of her posted online. Did you check to see if any of these might no longer be protected by copyright ({{PD-URAA}}, {{PD-US-no notice}}) or might not have had their copyright renewed ({{PD-US-not renewed}})? I'm not saying that a non-free absolutely cannot be used here; only trying to figure out how much of an effort was made to find a free equivalent. Just for reference, the default is not really to use a non-free until someone else finds a free equivalent; it's kind of expected that the uploader of the file is going to make a reasonable effort in finding a free equivalent before uploading a non-free. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:06, 6 August 2018 (UTC)

OK, but you uploaded the file as non-free. This seems to show the file as being released under a WP:ICT/FL license Wikipedia and Commons both accept (see c:COM:CC), so not sure why you uploaded it as non-free content. Marchjuly is quite correct; this should have been uploaded as a free image. It has an acceptable license, and there are no evident signs of flickrwashing -- it's a 2006 upload, contemporaneous to the claimed date it was taken, and tineye turns up no similar images suggesting a different origin. I recommend revising the file page and flagging it for transfer to Commons == hopefully before a bot reduces the file size. The Big Bad Wolfowitz (aka Hullaballoo). @Marchjuly and Hullaballoo Wolfowitz: I tried using the Move-to-commons assistant and got several flags, one being "no verifiable good license". As stated above, editing for images on this (my only) device usually sucks. So without help, I would rather flag it for deletion, than go through this hassle. Deleting and then reuploading directly to Commons is one possibility, but there's maybe one thing which might also work. Change the non-free use rationale to {{Information}} and then change the copyright license to {{CC-by-2.0}}; add {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}}; finally, ask Ronhjones to restore the older larger version deleted by RonBot because the file does not need to be licensed as non-free content. Once the file has been moved to Commons (or if you re-upload a new version to Commons), you might also want to add c:Template:Flickrreview and c:Template:Personality rights to the Commons' file's page. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:30, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

They need to be moved back (by an administrator) This is the original page that retains attribution that needs to be restored by an administrator.
