Welcome! edit

Hello, Buyinkonyane, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines, and may not be retained.

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{help me}} on this page, followed by your question, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Please STOP edit

Article Talkpages are not meant to be used for creating new articles. See WP:Drafts and WP:User sandbox. 220 of Borg 12:25, 17 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Seriously, please stop. Your articles are a mess because many of them have your signature all over them. This appears to be a result of you creating a page, using that articles' talk page to create the text of another article, then moving that talk page to the new page name. This is totally unnecessary! 220 of Borg 12:49, 17 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
You just did it again here at Jan d'Oliveira. If you continue this your editing may be considered wp:Disruptive. 220 of Borg 13:35, 17 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Suggestions (strong!) edit

  1. Stop creating any more new pages for now, until you get more experience with Wikipedia (WP) editing. (They seem to be non-notable persons in any case, and are not well sourced)
  2. Go back and remove your WP:signature from all the pages.
  3. Go back and convert all the 'embedded' external links into at least wp:Bare URL references.
  4. Try a wp:Draft page, if you can. 220 of Borg 13:35, 17 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm 220 of Borg. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to the main body of an article. Thanks for your feedback.

I do however have to state that I'm frustrated when it comes to creating biographies. I'm not that too versed with how it works and I see you pointed out that I do not need to create biographies using 'the talk page and the sandbox is quite a mission for me to navigate. Can you please offer an alternative or guidelines on how to go about creating biograhies.

In you 'toolbar' at the top of this page there might be text Sandbox, that if clicked on should(?) give you access to create your own personal sandbox (mentioned above as WP:User sandbox. (You might have to 'set' this in your personal preferences, or maybe you don't have enough edits yet?? That is you are not yet WP:Autoconfirmed) There is also the WP:Article wizard. 220 of Borg 13:22, 17 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ways to improve Irma Joubert edit

Hi, I'm Kudpung. Buyinkonyane, thanks for creating Irma Joubert!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Undoubtedly notable but to meet Wikipedia criteria this bio must have more sources to avoud deletion. All the claims must be referenced to reliable third-party independent sources that are not her publisher or routine book reviews

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 14:13, 17 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Friend Kudpung missed a few things. What I did to this page you can see by clicking here to see the 'diff'-erence my edit made. That probably took, me, 30-45 minutes to do manually. It's a lot easier if the page creator (you) does this at the start. 220 of Borg 15:31, 17 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Please do not "embed external links" in the text of any new pages you create. Koos Bothma has at least 5. There were 21 such links on the Irma Joubert page. This is regarded as a form of WP:LINKSPAM. There should be none. See Help:Referencing for how to cite a source. 220 of Borg 15:56, 17 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Nomination of Koos Bothma for deletion edit

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Koos Bothma is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Koos Bothma until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Dat GuyTalkContribs 08:57, 18 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Please, please stop creating new articles from talk pages. This is disruptive editing, it creates a tremendous workload for other editors, who are correcting your articles. Cotton2 (talk) 09:12, 18 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

I am going to try and be as concise as I can and hope that I get through to anyone reading this message. The way Wikipedia is set up is not quite user friendly for beginners. One is only allowed to create articles through sandbox which only allows editing for a single draft. So I politely ask! How am I supposed to create articles (BLPs)? Because I have plenty of content to upload but can't seem to figure this out. So anyone with a simple way of doing this can advise on how to go about posting articles.Mind you, I'm a beginner and willing to learn.

We try to assume good faith, especially with new editors, (your a new editor, we are all editors). You used the the articles for creation yesterday, but your article was denied. That should tell you that your articles need more work. You have reverted back to the style of creating new articles from talk pages. It's not acceptable, it creates a lot of work for other editors. Your references, such who's who, university bios need work too. We want you to contribute, you just have to change your style a bit. A good start would be wp:The Wikipedia Adventure. It's an interactive tour of how to create proper articles. wp:Teahouse is just for helping you, ask any questions there. But please, stop creating new articles from talk pages. Thanks, Cotton2 (talk) 09:29, 18 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Nondumiso Mzizana edit

Hello, Buyinkonyane. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Nondumiso Mzizana, for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. If you don't want Nondumiso Mzizana to be deleted, please add a reference to the article.

Hi, I've expanded this article with proper inline citations to at least one 3rd party source. That's what you want, substantial 3rd party coverage, such as this tv news source. Please click on edit the page and see how an inline reference is added and a reference section is created. Thanks, Cotton2 (talk) 13:08, 18 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Willie Barnard edit

Hello, Buyinkonyane. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Willie Barnard, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. ubiquity (talk) 15:47, 18 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

I will definitely edit the page to raise its standard for inclusion and furthermore could you please assist me in editing the bio box, because I've noticed that on other BLPs it is proportionally placed on the top right hand side of the article and on others it's placed on the left.Buyinkonyane (talk) 08:05, 19 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Piet Botha (University of Pretoria) edit

Hello Buyinkonyane,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Piet Botha (University of Pretoria) for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

Hi,

I am working on improving the article for inclusion in the encyclopedia.

Your contributed article, Willie Barnard (University of Pretoria) edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Willie Barnard (University of Pretoria). First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Willie Barnard. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Willie Barnard – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. My Pants Metal (talk) 12:45, 19 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Mandla Mlangeni (University of Pretoria) edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Mandla Mlangeni (University of Pretoria) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Does not meet WP:GNG. Article does not have reliable sources (one of which is a LinkedIn profile).

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Wikipedia and copyright edit

Hello Buyinkonyane, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Saurabh Sinha has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 00:54, 20 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Categories edit

Can you please take a few minutes and read WP:CATEGORY. Categorization can be tricky at times, and it can be helpful to understand them before getting into adding them. The main reason for mentioning this to you is because you are still adding the same categories multiple times in the same article. In some of the articles, such as Mandla Mlangeni, you are even re-adding them[1] after I removed and explained why in the edit summary.[2] If a subject attended a university, the alumni category is the one that should be added, not the university category. If you would look at the main categories you are adding, you will see that no other alumni are listed, which should be a good indication that they don't belong there? Please note, that I am only trying to help you here. Cmr08 (talk) 03:59, 24 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Nomination of Carl Marx (University of Pretoria) for deletion edit

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Carl Marx (University of Pretoria) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion.

Gbawden (talk) 08:13, 22 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

I really do not understand the basis and criteria of proposed/nominated deletion of an article. The only available information on the internet for this individual is minimal and therefore links externally, which I did advise that Wikipedia does not allow for external links to be added. I did state that this bio is for the University of Pretoria alumni page and this recipient is part of the University of Pretoria alumni. Please clearly advise on how the structure works because this would be the third time this article is deleted even though I tried to amplify the content this time.
