Women in Red edit
Hi there, BlitzkriegBoop, and welcome to Women in Red. I'm glad to see you are interested in creating articles about Portuguese women. You might find this list of redlinked Portuguese women useful. It lists women with biographies in another language version of Wikipedia but not yet in English. As for guidelines, if you want to gain more basic experience in editing, try The Wikipedia Adventure. - Hi Ipigott, thank you so much for the kind welcome! At the moment I'm focusing on creating/ building pages in Portuguese because I'm guessing it will be easier to source them etc; my aim is to then translate any existing/ outstanding ones to English. Thanks also for linking me to The Wikipedia Adventure, it's very useful. I feel like I've already learned so much, and it has only been a couple of days! Speedy deletion nomination of Runa Mackay edit
A tag has been placed on Runa Mackay requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:
too promotional, not sure of notability and user isn't allowed to edit in the ARBPIA area.

Article looks really good so far! Speedy deletion nomination seems to have been nixed but will keep an eye on discussion. Couple of general points to summarise from yesterday:
- The lede opening sentence of any new article needs to establish very clearly why this person (or topic) is notable/remarkable/significant/important for inclusion on Wikipedia. The Manual of Style WP:MOS has guidance for writing a good opening sentence which summarises/contextualises the person but equally you can view other biography articles on Wikipedia similar to your article to see how they have opened.
- Citations should back up every statement (place after full stop) or at least every paragraph.
- Headings are only capitalised on the first word only. You can check other articles for typical article headings used in biographies or visit Wikipedia's Manual of Style WP:MOS.
- If we can add 50-100 words and 3 or 4 (or more) references from reliable published secondary sources (more is always better for establishing wider notability) then we have something we can publish. For help publishing you can email me at ewan.mcandrew@ed.ac.uk or view our website page here.

- Regardless of the outcome of the CSD process, the user is not able to edit articles broadly construed about the IP conflict so we should not encourage them to violate that. Sir Joseph (talk) 16:02, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for flagging this Sir Joseph but this user is a new editor interested in improving topics in Portuguese and English and focusing on creating new pages to help address the underrepresentation of women. She attended a University of Edinburgh editing event yesterday where she selected a notable woman from a worklist of those not yet represented on Wikipedia but who had an obituary featured in a national broadsheet newspaper, the Guardian (UK). I suggested the topic because of this and provided the link to the obituary. She merely wrote the biography article and has not in anyway strayed into other articles that cover the conflict beyond suggesting on article Talk pages that they could link to her newly created biography article. It is my view that writing biography articles in this way does not infringe on any topic ban but if there is such a wide-ranging topic ban that prevents any mention then can you provide me with a link to such? ps. Also why delete an afternoon's work when the article content can just be worked with? if it needs modified by an experienced editor qualified to edit on ARBPIA topics then fine. But please don't bite the newbies. We are trying to build an inclusive and neutrally written encyclopedia with a diversity of content and contributors. - Thank you for your messages Sir Joseph and Stinglehammer. I wasn't aware of these restrictions so thank you for flagging them up. It will read all the documentation that you pointed me to, and for now will assume that anything that takes place within the IP territories is sensitive content and I must stay away from it until I'm a more experienced editor. I would like to keep editing that page as I understand the criticism of it and would like to improve it (as well as correct typos) but I'm not going to risk sanctions.
